Former Scotland Under-21 forward Jamie Murphy is in talks with Leeds United after Brighton were put off by Sheffield United's £1.5m asking price for the former Motherwell player.

He is 25 and scored 11 in 45 league 1 games last season (but only 17 in 94 for them in total. not sure on his assists). This rumour could be a goer as we supposedly want him and they want Sharp so we can get a part exchange. Is it just me that thinks £1.5m is a little excessive for a Lg1 player after all the wingers we have missed/passed on for free so far? We have missed out on guys like Pringle and JET, maybe 4-5 others as well if rumour sites are to be believed and now we only seem to be linked with Murphy and Barker (18 year old man city winger). All this is starting to worry me as by my count we still need a commanding defensive mid to replace Austin, a proven striker, Erwin could come good but that's a huge risk to have him as first choice, and 2-3 wingers, depending on if Ajose is in next seasons plans, with supposedly only 3 more signings expected. Starting to look like we may be short out wide again unless we re-purpose the likes of Doukara, Sloth or Antenucci and i'm not sure that will work.

I can see where you are coming from Gummie with your worry, but let's hope our new back room have something up their sleeve. However, if in the next few weeks things are still quiet, I'll start to become a little sceptical. The players we had last season for me would only be good enough to secure another mid table finish, so I'm positive we'll be investing in some new players soon.

Yeah, to be fair tommoleeds78 i'm not getting too down over it or anything, as JT says we have a team that should see Mid table without a lot of trouble and the backroom additions have been great. i'm just a little frustrated that everybody has known our major problem has been out wide since, arguably, Gradel went (Snoddy was good but never fast enough to do it alone) yet we don't fix it. In the past I have chalked it up to availability and money but some really good wide players have been on frees this year and we haven't offered for them, which was fine as some big fee based players had been linked. Now we just seem to be scraping the barrel a bit looking at loaning 18 year olds. Also a load of loans isn't the way, excepting Bamba they haven't really lived up to it the last few seasons for us.
Maybe its all a smokescreen, maybe we have some top guys lined up, and I hope we do, but ill be frustrated till at least 2 wingers put pen to paper is all.

With Cellino in charge you can guarantee that the signings aren't over. I just think we need to sit tight because we'll have secured our targets with regards to what was available come end of the season. I bet we'll have a few trials with regards to pre season games aswell. We've also got to how the premier league squads shape up because loans may come available that aren't right now, like with Bournemouth signing a fair few players, they will have to offload some players somewhere. Not saying get Bournemouth players, was just an example lol .

I think 2/3 weeks down the line we'll have seen and be seeing a lot more.
