Whisper going round we may be getting Izzy Brown on loan from Chelsea. On loan at Brighton last season but been out since January as he tore his cruciate but helped dog botherers get promotion the season before.

Good signing, taking a risk because of injury record but because of that we’re getting someone who has some premiership game time as well as playing for promotion winners from the Championship. A very Bielsa appointment that gives more options going forward.

One amazing rumour about Izzy Brown is his supposed salary, 1.3 million! Can that be true! How much of a salary bill are Chelsea potentially carrying with all these “kids” who are still a way off the first team!

£25,000 per week is £1.3M, give or take a pound or two, which would maybe explain to people on here where all the money has gone, bloody wages. Consider, "only" £5,000 per week is over a quarter of a million, it's a popular conception that most of our first team are making around £15,ooo per week, that's a lot of money over the year innit?

You’re right Staford, it’s a lot of cash and for a player albeit with a premiership team, but one doing the rounds for championship teams. It’s another argument for having a leaner squad of better quality.

To go back to the cash deal, ER sells probably 15000 general tickets every week, 23 times a year if not more with the cup. at 40 quid a pop that's about 15 million quid just on general ticket sales each season. then you've got season tickets, then you've got vip passes, then you've got away games, merchandise, sponsorships, and whatever money the owner invests, 25k a week is becoming the norm for players in the championship unfortunately, hence why if you're on less than that and you're not a bad player, i.e chris wood, you go to a club that can afford to pay you that. its only business. just a shame our club has been wasting that money for so long.

Wow £25,000 per week in the Championship! I did not know that.

I remember just a couple of seasons ago the talk about Chris Woods and a £15,000/ w salary and thought those sort of figures were huge.

I am with the previous poster, much better idea to have a leaner squad so we can have better quality for the budget

In reality how many players does manager need for a season, taking in account injuries and suspensions? I sometimes think that managers don't give players enough time to show their true form (Klich is a point in case) before discarding and trying the next one. didn't 80's Liverpool become champions in a 40 game league season with about 14 players? Can't tell me that players these days are LESS fit today than beer drinking and smoking players of yesteryear.

Let's hope his injury allows him to play before the end of the season and not another Roberts.
