16 year old Motherwell winger Stuart McKinstry set to join on a 3 year deal. Another OFF.

Looks like another good prospect. This is a way of investing in players that should be applauded. Gets them into the club, schooled in our ways and we get to have a good look at them and how they conduct themselves.

Shame we didn't pick João Felix up from Portugal, he's apparently the next big thing. £120M pricetag on him already, he's 19! !

A 19 year old kid valued at more than double our entire club. Crazy world.

I just hope McKinstry isn't taking the place of one of our youngsters that has been at the club since the age of 9

That was a bit tongue in cheek, but It does ring alarm bells with me that we are buying young men from other clubs and packaging them as home grown just because they played U23s before they made their debuts
Kun
Edmondson
Dalby
Stevens

I am not naive, I realise it's the nature of the business. Would just prefer us to be known for a good scouting policy that a good academy.

See what you’re saying Axe, and agree to a level. The thing we don’t see is that talent we sign up lower down the age groups. Some kids are just natural talents, and some can be nurtured. I think, from what I’ve seen, we have a good blend and balance.

Bright

I hope I haven't come across as being at all negative. It wasn't meant that way.

I 100% love our Academy but I do get a little bored with the media rubbish about churning out home grown stars. Half of them are home grown, as in come thro lots of age groups. Half are young men who are identified and bought in. It doesn't make me support those players any less I just get exasperated by the media myth.

It's always happened. Kewell for one, Australian, so hardly "home-grown" Gary Kelly, Ian Harte etc Edmonson, Dalby, they're not home-grown but they come through the academy.

I’m not sure it bothers me really. The aim is to try and secure good prospects when we can, if that’s 10 great but if not, 14, 17, or 29 still better than having to pay full price for established first team players and they still have time to learn the house style.
