Just looking at who we've bought in since the start of the season compared to who has moved on. If you grade the incomers as green, where there's an improvement on what we had, amber where they may turn out to be as good but not sure yet, and red where they are not an improvement or worse, you could say (with roughly similar players who've moved on alongside) Green: Saiz (Murphy) Amber: Alioski (Doukara) , Pennington Red: Lonergan (Silvestri) , Wiedwald (Green) , Lasogga (Wood) , Anita and Borthwick-Jackson (Taylor) , Klich (Bridcutt) , Cibicki (Diogouraga) . Haven't included Grot as I don't think he should be in the 1st team but may develop in U23s. You may disagree with the categories for one or two but it doesn't make good reading. Therefore I can't see why we should finish any higher than last season unless we recruit well during the next fortnight. I know the powers that be would rather make most of their signings in the summer when there's generally better value, but the risk is that the few top players we do have may be enticed away by someone with deeper pockets and big ambitions in the short, rather than longer term.

With the money we paid can we even say we got value? Klich was 3 mill wasn’t he and he barely plays.

Klich was 1.5 million

Klich £1.5m, Sacko £1.7m, Grot £1m at least. We could have got a decent player with these wasted transfer fees

Sacko signing mystified me at the time - we already saw how lamentable he was the previous season and yet we still spent good money on him. I assumed at the time this was because the coaching team were confident they could get a tune out of him but he just looks hopeless every time he plays.
