Everyone comparing Villa to us, but we never got parachute payments or the obscene Sky tv money they did. Think it's time PP were scrapped, as clubs are using them to sign other Champ clubs' players on obscene wages, just look at Stoke. If you get relegated ts, we never got a helping hand.

Thought stoke might have learned about over-priced transfers over the last few years . and then £14M for Andre Gray?

Parachute money part of the incentive to try get in the PL so it should stay. We might need it, once we did. Maybe should only last 2 seasons though, not 3.

Should only last one season in my opinion, to aid clubs fund staff contracts etc. Clubs losing better players to other clubs is part and parcel of football, and they will usually get a transfer fee. Relegated teams having 3 years parachute payments is to try and help them get back to the promise land asap and rewards failure.

The thing is Mezzer, they were brought in for that reason, but they're being abused by clubs to sign expensive players. Why can't relegated clubs just sell all their players, like we had to, to make up for the shortfall?

Good points made on both sides, I do agree it rewards failure but believe pp should remain for one season to allow the club that time to readjust . I remember all the media comments regarding us, it sort of seems less intense in regards to Villa, not that I want them to go the same way as us (no fans deserve that) . I hope we try to get Snoddy back Ab up and him providing .

Surely all players should have a clause in their contact which shows the salary level if relegated. After all it's the inflated wages that handcuffs a team and it was the players who got the team relegated. I do think some form of PP is required but in its presnt form it should only last one year.

You would think so Leo but I believe in the main most clauses are regarding transfer fees. That said if you have a player on big money surly it makes sense to let them move if they want and get some one else at far less the wages . I think this is the problem with Villa, not only did they spend but there wage must have been a size last season.

I think the PP should be scrapped altogether, finishing bottom of the PL gets you £95 - 100M in "prize money" why should they get more?

We did get parachute payments - its just we were so far in debt already by that time that they couldn't be used to strengthen the team. some clubs come down with no debt so they have the money to spend.
