Mbappe 19 why in England are we so reluctant to let our young players on to the stage

15 Jul 2018 18:02:49
Because our top league is so money oriented no body would take the risk of playing the kids to see if they are good enough. Go back to the days of limited foreign players and maybe we'll produce the same standard of players.

15 Jul 2018 18:13:50
That's not it at all Canada. Old enough good enough. Foreigners in England have only helped English players raise the bar. The answer is Mbappe is a one off. It's not like other countries have a glut of world class teenagers either.

Sorry George wrong. Which English players now are better than we produced years ago? Be honest and youll admit not too many. I agree good enough old enough, but you only find out if they're good enough if you play them. Teams don't as the cost of not winning is too much. That's why our top clubs send their young talent out on loan to see if they are good enough!

15 Jul 2018 18:36:46
Wasn't the average age if the England team lower than ever before ? I reckon the young ones that are good enough are getting a chance. George is right, Mbappe is a complete one off !

Canada Pickford put in a world class display throughout the tournament surpassing former goalkeepers of recent times in my opinion. He is certainly Seaman standard. Defense. When did we ever have goalscoring central defenders who can defend and play with the ball at feet? Stones and Maguire. When did we last have another defender in Walker who is as fast as? Trippier did brilliantly with his crossing. Rose and Young acquitted themselves. Midfielders did okay, we just lack that extra world class guile. Sterling got real speed and unlucky not to score. Rashford and Loftus-Cheek lively and good players. Kane won golden boot. What else you want? Not all countries get to produce a Modric. Our team has clearly benefitted from the influx of foreigners but I'm all for a cap because the balance is slightly off. However, saying our defense hasn't improved from Shilton Butcher Wright Pearce and Parker is just ludicrous. We do lack a Gazza and I wish we had one but saying no improvement is just totally wrong. Want more improvement, Canada? Try researching penalty shoot out. Everyone in Canada, sorry Britain knows we are improved.

Erm the French league is also full of foreign players just like the premier league is. Unfortunately if ya want the best league in the world then it will always have a detrimental effect on the national team. England have been far better than in previous years but we are a long long way off winning any tournament.

15 Jul 2018 18:58:24
Yes but to say England's young players are doing well due to imports makes no sense when we have flooded our top league with them for 3 decades now. The top 10% to 20% of those players do enhance for sure but how many average imports do we have who would be no better than our young home grown players if we gave them a fair chance. We don't give many of our young players the chance to show what they can do against the best players as clubs can't afford to get relegated. Let's be 100% honest almost all decisions these days are financial. Clubs are businesses so either our young are not good enough to give a chance to or we don't give them the chance due to the financial risk.

Sorry guys but England had a soft run in the tournament and were beaten by any team of quality unless we class beating Panama and scraping a result against Tunisia

Ryan seggonson (If that's how you spell it) Canada. Ripped it up last year at 16_17 yrs old

So how did the under 17s. 19s and 21s do this summer and last summer etc. How many years in a row has the Toulon tournament been won. I’m not english. But I think the youth is being brought on great from grass roots and the new st George’s Park is a tremendous boost, . but the premier league does present its own problems with money to bring in top European and World top players that hinders the English youth. But given time this may change with the success off the youth lately. 🇬🇧👌⚽️😊

15 Jul 2018 19:19:39
George you miss the point (again) . Nobody can deny England did well (although we beat nobody who you say is a top class team and you can only beat who are aired with) . My point is if we did give our young players the opportunity to play against the likes of Kante Pogba we may have produced that top player to take us to the next level. How many players develop late. Lots. Loftus-Cheek can't even get in his own team. What you seem to be saying is as he isn't good enough to give the opportunity to its good for his parent club to bring in yet another player from abroad who is slightly better right now. We can produce top players and do produce some (always have) . I want us producing more and more so that we expect to reach every semi. Not sure if you do haha

Hardly Canada. I know the game very well. Re-read what I said originally. I said foreigners have helped English players raise the bar. Why not phone in from Canada and speak to Lineker, Shearer or Ferdinand and ask them have foreign players coming into the PL raised the playing level of good developing English talent? Bet they say yes! Simple basic fact of working life. If you interact with better teachers you'll become better!

13.) 15 Jul 2018
15 Jul 2018 19:41:44
Exactly batty! Much has been learned from the PL foreign influx money doninating project and now England is reaping the benefits after quarter of a century. All we lack that I can see is a Modric. Maybe we'll get one soon.

14.) 15 Jul 2018
15 Jul 2018 20:13:35
Thanks for finally agreeing with me George. I knew you'd get there! By your own admission interacting with better players you get better. I couldn't agree more (which is why I always had my teams play up an age group) So why don't we allow young players to interact with better players in England instead of replacing them with other slightly more 'proven' players? You can disagree with my belief it's about money all you want. With you knowing so much about the game why don't you enlighten the rest of us as to why we don't produce the players then?

15.) 15 Jul 2018
15 Jul 2018 20:25:45
Martyn, not sure what your Sessagnon post is meaning? Great young player for sure. Hopefully we can produce lots lots more like that in this country. The post is about why we don't give them a shot. I want as many young English players as possible getting that chance to learn their craft from the best just don't see it changing too much unfortunately.

15 Jul 2018 20:53:47
Canada You really are unprintable word. Like I said there are a fraction too many teachers but if it wasn't for them our tactics, passing and understanding of the game wouldn't have improved as it has. I appreciate them. It is somewhat disconcerting that Loftus-Cheek didn't get as much game time and this is reflected at his club but he can move to a middle tier PL team like Leicester or Palace and get all the game time he wants. Only the top 6 behave as you refer. The other 14 clubs are not as guilty. Besides, Brexit will no doubt restrict the influx of foreigners next decade.

17.) 15 Jul 2018
15 Jul 2018 22:58:54
Only 30% of players in Premiership is British, Foreign owners mean foreign coaches foreign players fact just because there foreign doesn't make them better players it's just an obsession, if the majority of clubs were British owned we'd see more British players but unfortunately the Foreign owners have the money.,

18.) 16 Jul 2018
16 Jul 2018 00:09:21
Look at the European leagues. Premiership has highest % imports. French the second lowest. Coincidence that they have the best young players around?

19.) 16 Jul 2018
16 Jul 2018 00:19:49
Canada Without them, we'd still be playing long ball. They enriched our leagues with entertainment.

20.) 16 Jul 2018
16 Jul 2018 00:54:02
I don't disagree that the best ones do. My point is we can and do produce youth who can do what most of the non top ones do and would become better and better if we let them. We don't because clubs are scared to due to financial reasons.

21.) 16 Jul 2018
16 Jul 2018 06:35:04
George, with all what you say and we still didn’t win anything,

Kly your right look at Leeds over the past 5 years most from overseas

Batty. the Premier league and all its iterations before NEVER brought in world class players. This is actually one of my huge bugbears about the "allegedly" richest league in the world best player in the world at the moment, Ronaldo, we let him leave. second best player in the world, Messi, never considered this country. third best player in the world, Neymar, went to France! soon to be the best player in the world, Mbappe, staying in France of all places. Previous best players, Ronaldiniho, Ronaldo (sr) , Zidane, all the way back to Maradona. None ever reach our shores BTW, DeBruyne, Salah have become World Class after coming to England
IF each club stopped buying 5 average foreigner benchwarmers. Added up there transfer fees. Added up their wages. They could ALL afford Neymar. And give the benchwarming duties to our own "qualified" young talent. Watch and learn boys, watch and learn Leeds have had a clear out. Can't tell me they haven't save £40,000 per week in wages. So why hasn't Abel Henandez signed? Antonsson, £16k per week! That should have gone in Chris Woods pocket. Along with the £2million transfer fee. Saiz would have had 101 assists

Whitey We reached the last 4 in the WC, our best finishing position since the creation of the PL. There's only one winner of a tournament. What do you prefer, us getting knocked out at group stage, not even qualifying at all?

25.) 16 Jul 2018
16 Jul 2018 13:27:34
Don't know about enriching our entertainment George the premier league has become a bit of a bore. Not many classic games like Leeds 4 Liverpool 3 anymore

26.) 16 Jul 2018
16 Jul 2018 14:06:28
Yes Wexy spot on because 5000-1 rank outsiders Leicester didn't win the PL in 2017. It's become ever too predictable and not the place to be if you're an ambitious club. Yep, it's another worldbeater!

27.) 16 Jul 2018
16 Jul 2018 19:58:28
George, PL is reported to be the best, how is it we can’t win anything, since 66, and yes saves the the hassle, and the crap we get from it, oh it’s coming home like bloody hell

28.) 16 Jul 2018
16 Jul 2018 23:34:15
Whitey Because it's dominated by foreign players and foreign owners. 40% PL clubs are domestically owned. We've done well and should've got to final but Southy didn't freshen it up. We are progressing headed in right direction. However, I'm expecting French resistance at the Euros and in Qatar. Wouldn't surprise me if they win there too. We do need to make adjustments if we want to succeed but the PL has little to do with the England FA ans betterment of the team. It's all about money in the PL.

29.) 17 Jul 2018
17 Jul 2018 09:49:36
It's all about money in PL is it GIW? Yet giving young players a shot is not about money! You've gone full circle and tied yourself up in your own knot.
