Just watching Sly Sports One2Eleven with Ian Harte and the players he has picked for his perfect team are: Nigel Martyn, Gary Kelly, Rio Ferdinand, Johnny Woodgate, Denis Irwin, Lee Bowyer, Roy Keane (cap) , Oliver Dacourt, Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka and Robbie Keane. with the exception of two of those and you all know who, that's a good team! With the exception of three I remember that been the team who played the second half vs Barcelona at ER I think. Wow the room went all wavy with chime music, and I was suddenly transported back 16 years!

It did me to mate, I remember exactly everything that happened that night and it gives me goosebumps to think about it, poor Mrbean, Leeds88, Swadlad or whatever alias he is today because he would not have a clue how that feels, beating Besiktas 6-0, or Anderlect when they were on a long unbeaten run, or even our superb performance against Real Madrid, he's got no idea has he! Knob! MOT

Fantastic nights woody. Went to all three home games vs Milan, Barcelona and basiktas. best nights of football ever. Bowyer was a different class that season, just awesome. how he never made it to the very top is beyond me!

Lee Bowyer had the world at his feet but it all blew up in his face with the court case, him Woodgate and Duberry, it ruined the three of them all for different reasons, but Bowyer was different class, imagine what he would be worth nowadays? You are spot on though mate, those nights under the lights at Elland Road were something else, I don't know what it is about Elland Road at night but its an amazing atmosphere under the lights! We will get them massive games back one day and we are at last going in the right direction. So hopefully we can all live those nights again! MOT

{Ed001's Note - to be fair Bowyer was busy trying to blow it all up in his own face long before he joined Leeds. There was his racially motivated attack in a McDonalds in London while he played for Charlton Athletic, that was hushed up because he was a professional footballer. There were at least a dozen other incidents the little turdmuncher was involved in that were also covered up during his career prior to signing for Leeds. The guy is just scum and it was not Leeds' fault that they had not known just how bad he was when they took a chance on him. I am not so sure he would be worth anything nowadays because it would be much more difficult to hush up the incidents he was involved in as a Premier League footballer.}

Wow, well I didn't know that Ed, I knew he was a bad lad but not like you have just described and that was a well kept secret! I remember at the time of the racial attack of Sarfraz Najeib sat next to a las called Jaz, who was Asian, and I asked him if he thought they were guilty and he said absolutely, without a doubt but he said, nothing will happen because they are famous and Sarfraz isn't so they will put it down to him wanting to make money from them! I remember feeling shamed to be a Leeds fan at the time because with working on the markets I knew and befriended a lot of the Asian lads, I even took my LUFC stickers out the van window! So why did the newspapers not pick up on his colourful past then Ed? Surely if they had then he would of been thrown out of the game, I mean he wasn't allowed to play for England while this was going on and rightly so but with all that you have just said he shouldn't of been allowed in the game! He most surely wouldn't of been allowed nowadays! Thanks for that Ed.

{Ed001's Note - they did at the time, but no one wanted to know because it wasn't the media frenzy you have now. It certainly was covered: Guardian piece on Bowyer though you have to read quite a way before you get to the bits about his ex-gf who he walked out on him because of the way he acted when he found out her mam was Indian. Just after that it mentions the McDonalds incident, though it does not go into the full detail that the court transcripts at the time did. Certainly he and his mates were not shy in the terms they used to refer to the Asian lad that had served them. You can get away with anything if you are a professional footballer, just ask Joey Barton, he is now a bloody pundit on TV, yet he is a vile racist moron with a past that would have seen him locked up if he had not played football. Bowyer is a similar person to Barton really. Sadly talent is often wasted on people who do not deserve it. If I wouldn't risk having the websites shut down I could tell you a lot more stories from his time at Charlton as I have a lot of friends who worked at the club during his time there. However, without proof they are stories that have to stay in private, sadly.}

Cheers Ed for the information and yes you are exactly right, you can get away with anything if you are a footballer including paying tax! I'm going to look up on all that though about Bowyer and I'm of the same opinion as you about Barton, best thing for football was when he was banned for betting! In truth I shuddered at the thought of him joining Leeds last season when he was linked because I can't stand him, he is the perfect example of what young footballers shouldn't be. Anyway cheers Ed for that. MOT

{Ed001's Note - you are very welcome mate. I totally agree with you. If you can find any old Charlton fan sites with archives from back then, you might be able to find some of the info. I would assume it got leaked out online on them at the time, things have a way of doing so.}

I have to agree with Ed001, I heard bits n bobs about Bowyer at the time. Thoroughly horrible little man.
