What's with all the negativity with the smith signing? This lads under 30 for once and BMDS proven this in the past, c'mon let's get behind the team MOT!

Welcome to LUFC Matt Smith. You could become our next legend!

Just a quick question, anybody know what's happened to hammers fan from thegamesgonecrazy? Not seen owt from him on news now for awhile! Not like I am complaining! Ha ha

I think (personal opinion) that this player would fit the bill of McD's young/hungry (something for the future) player:

Name: Jano Ananidze
Club: Spartak Moscow
Position: Attacking Mid/Wing

According to the web he's earning 23k per week (not too far from what we'd be looking at) and would cost in the region of 2. 5M to buy. I just did a quick search and there hasn't been any recent interest (according to the web again). He might be a tad overpriced for us but I'd say it's defiantly worth a shot at least.

He maybe a tad overpriced? We've just signed a third rate thire division dummy because he was FREE!

Agree0 Disagree0

If a tad = 2.5m that's about right

Agree0 Disagree0

23k per week is far from what we want to offer, too much

good signing really on afree and rather have him than somma and varney with mc already looking at pace and quility wel need a tall lad

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 20:30:58
Why so much negativity about Matt Smith, the lad hasn't even kicked a ball for us yet.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 20:30:29
Mat Smith, he's 24 he's hungry he wants to play for Leeds, and Brian McDermott is not a bad judge of a player, some might think oh he's another free buy, but he could turn out to be a good bit of business, he scored 3 goals against premiership clubs last season playing for Oldham

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 19:58:52
Id rather this fella than DJ Campbell or Ebanks-Blake

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed .

10 Jun 2013 19:51:51
Fair enough Matt Smith isn't a signing to get the pulse racing but at least give the lad a chance before hammering him! Might just prove to be a good signing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 19:42:32
If keep signing league one players where do u think we will end up? That's rite league one AGAIN! These fans are deluded thinking its a good signing its yet another free, why doesn't Gfh capital come out and tell the truth there are broke

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Never no pleasing some leeds fans even if we had of signed messi today you would still of moaned about him been to small get a grip will you

Agree0 Disagree0

Just because he's a free doesn't mean there broke. if you can get decent players without spending money then why not person

Agree0 Disagree0

Where did we get beckford from, oh ye non league weidlestone

Agree0 Disagree0

Grant Holt, Rickie Lambert, Le Fondre all came from lower leagues and have played PL football

Last year under warnock we bought Andy Gray, this year we've signed a young potential in Smith. I no which I'd rather have guys

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 19:18:45
Supported my beloved Leeds for many, many years. Seen through the Revie era, Wilko era with some cracking players on display. Before my time was a big burly centre forward by the name of John Charles. With Wilko there was Lee Chapman, bit gangly and clumsy but banged in the goals for us for fun. We totally need passing football, WITH WINGERS. and a playmaker to thread that peach of a pass we thrive on! Matt Smith, big, young and hungry. Give him a chance guys. It won't be hoofball but a spearhead figure to end with as our wingers do their bit! Have faith, I have for as long as I can remember. MOT. Nick50yrswhiteblood

why are people clicking unbelievable about Matt Smith when most of the posted are stating OS! ( original site ie Leeds united own site)

He has signed so its hardly unbelievable?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think those people are using the word unbelievable in a different context

Agree0 Disagree0

On the main page it is believable or unbelievable but when you open the rumour you will see that changes to Agree or Disagree.

Just the way the site buttons are labeled.

Congratulations to Brian Mcdermot for signing a player who will appreciate leeds and being at leeds and not a primadonna. more signings please.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 18:56:55
Have to say, Warnocks book now getting on my t)ts, yet again Warnock is blaming everyone else but himself.

In the 12 months he was in charge we went backwards he should just eat humble pie and shut up

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 18:52:15
I am very happy that we have signed matt smith he will be a handful for most defences.

we now need a quick winger and a good passer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 18:32:45
Well I was right when I said on Saturday smith was signing. Only time will tell. Surely now McDermott will be signing some wingers with us getting a target man like smith.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Touche! Mate 1st bit of inside info that cum up trumps, keep it up mot

Agree0 Disagree0

You sound like you have had a guess and by chance he signed for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 18:22:26
im sorry this is terrible, I was just reading an interview with bm and he said our main training pitch at ta wasn't the same size as eland roads pitch! I think that is terrible

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shows the lack of attention to detail by previous managers, & the difference with BMD and the attention to everything.

We have a really good manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember Wilko doing exactly the same thing when he took over at Leeds, its the attention to detail that sets certain managers apart.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 18:12:37
Matt Smith deserves a chance surely. The manager would not sign him for no reason, he clearly must have strengths that will benefit the team. In addition to this MCcormack did thrive at times when playing with a bigger striker whose aim was to assist rather than scoring goals e. g. Andy Keogh
So think this lad deserves a chance, he may not become our all time top goals scorer, but if we start by chanting his name instead of booing it, maybe he will believe, and bring other strengths to the side.

I'm not judging matt smith till i've seen him play but just as a comparison, Derby County have already signed Johnny Russell and Chris Martin this transfer window. I know who i'd rather have MOT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 22:47:27
I did not know that Coldplay had split up! Still Chris might make a better footballer tha a singer

does the signing of Matt Smith mean the end of Steve Morrision? as they are similar players aren't they? I hope not as Rate Morrision but quite happy with new signing leeds have lacked height and power at set peices for sometime now. hope that Hall will not be the main wing threat though he is not the greatest in what I have seen? people's thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think it's the end of Morison, I think that if we're loosing and ten mins to go we would bring him on for something to aim for.

Del boy

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously 15 goals in 2 years, is garbage.
if you rate morison your crazy, dr who all day for me he is younger and may be the new chappers

Agree0 Disagree0

One of Varney or Morison will have to go, with Smith arriving the players are too similar. Just need a pacey striker now to balance things up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Course I rate morrison, he tore us apart, did well at millwall and got brought by a good norwich team (who also took our best players and howson who I don't rate) morrison can and will do it at this level give him a chance (although I also said the same when we brought ricketts so my judgement can be questioned)

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 17:10:30
Becchio, beckford, snodgrass, johnson?

All relatively unknown before leeds, why do people think all our signings have to be worth millions and proven in the prem?

If it was simply a case of buying well known players I could be the best scout ever.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Snoddy and Brad were both teenagers when they signed, as future prospects. Beckford had been in the Chelsea youth team, and excelled in non league. We were ready to let him go to Scunthorpe until we were relegated and needed to keep him. Becchio proved himself during a trial. Matt Smith is already 24, and has a poor record in the third division. it's down to him to show us what he can do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha! Nicely, and wittily put.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 16:52:20
Signed a player with more than 2 years left as a player. Has potential and will want to do well. Scores important goals and works hard for the team. Yet he is getting stated already saying he's not good enough. Good luck to the lad and well played brian mcdermott for getting him in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

His record speaks for itself. poor

Agree0 Disagree0

I guarantee he will do well. Like kitson signing frim a non league club for mcdermott. Bet a few laughed at that one till he started banging goals in for fun. Why not wish the lad well and back him. Fans like you p**s me off so much. Never happy and show no support, and first in line to slate everything that goes on.

Agree0 Disagree0

How does his record speak for itself you do know at oldham he played as a cb most of the time

Agree0 Disagree0

No I didn't know that. well has he signed as a striker or a defender? could be more than meets the eye to this.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well you do now wish fans like you would stop moaning and give the lad a chance seem to remember a lad called beckford signing for us nobody had heard of him the rest is history.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 16:16:50
Leeds signing matt smith on a free is a good bit of business. His height and strength will b a big asset 4 us. Jus need a good playmaker 2 work with him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 16:15:39
Got a feeling that Lee Camp will sign, he's a free agent and McDermott was linked to sign him when he was at Reading. Ashdown is also set to be released.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 17:20:31
If Lee Camp signs it will be as no1 and we would be better moving Kenny out that Ashdown.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a good keeper. Would be impressed by him.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 16:10:57
Can I remind a lot of fans, over the last few months if not years fans have been saying let's go for young up and coming players from lower leagues, now we have finally started doing that mcdermott and co are getting slated for it, some fans really are pathetic.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, I think with a few good wingers that can cross Matty smith will be a gem for us, only 24 and same mould as viduka!

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with you pal. all these fans moaning want to wake up and smell the coffee. we are a mid table championship team not a top 4 premier league team, them days are long gone

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 16:08:29
I might be the only one, but i'm really happy with signing Matt Smith. I'm not saying he is defiantly going to be the next leeds great or anything, i'm just not saying he's awful either, as mcd's got a track record of pulling these kind of players from the depths and uncovering their potential. Stop the negativity and get behind the lads in white.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 16:02:15
Matt Smith's signing was a bit left field however the more I think about it the more it makes sense. A 6ft 6in striker gives us something different, I suspect not a player to start a game but definately an impact player off the bench however the challenge for BMcD is to bring in wingers who can supply crosses to this fella

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 16:01:29
Board of Leeds fans negativity they complain when we don't sign players, they complain when we sign Journeymen they also complain when a former scout signs a striker.
They would rather we signed Carlton Cole with his wages, injury record and lack of aptitude for the game.

Shows you that people spend to much time on computer games & not enough time studying the actual game.

Remember what you said about BMD 1st signings & his future signings because there will be more of the same coming and I assure you he is laying the foundations to our future success.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 15:58:33
I want scott carson or david stockdale, heres to hoping

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 15:32:59
The matt smith signing is something I'm very happy about, I don't believe any off warnocks signings last year took any scouting. like mcc said the last few players he has taken from Ireland, lower leagues ant done too bad Kitson long hunt. He knows a player look at people like jimmy Kebbie the list goes on. I say get used to these type off players coming in because it's Brian's way. The best way for us at this moment in time imo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 15:29:00
Matty Smith is a decent signing imo, looked a handful in FA cup. Keep faith with BM, we will put in more quality crosses for the lad than Oldham ever did. MOT, Vinny.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 15:27:54
6 out of 14 posts, negative after the first signing. We are LEEDS not man u, chelski, real madrid, barca,. come on get real; As mcd says you can't build on sand. A young hungry striker to start with, hopefully a good strong centre back, a midfield general and one out and out winger, because we've already got one in byram. a young left midfield. We already have the rest.
I for one am going to be positive for this season after all. WE ARE LEEDS. If we can make ER a fortress, this will be our year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 15:23:22
sometimes I hate having such awful fickle fans, you criticise a player who wasnt given a real chance at oldham, he didn't start many games, remember BMD likes to pluck gems from the lower leagues, he was a scout don't you forget so he knows what he's doing, give the lad a chance he's not even kicked a ball for us yet, I agree with Uncle Ken with the people tag, because some of you are

Woody

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 15:01:19
why are some fans slating matt smith already just because he came from a lower league. Give him a chance! BM was a chief scout and has picked up lower league gems before ie, le fondre/kitson. trust him. MOT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 14:58:59
Not at all happy with the signing of Matt smith we need proven quality not a player scored 6 league goals last season, come on gfh wake up ans sign some quality not mediocre

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Although I am quite underwhelmed with the signing of matt smith but scoring 14 goals in 21 starts is pretty good. He is obviously a late developer in football if he could only break in to the Oldham squad in the middle and towards the end of the season but he did prove himself in the FA cup and towards the end of the season. And Brian McDermott has picked up on it and beaten Blackburn to him. At least now we can look forward to a few more signings in the coming weeks. Hopfully two wingers

Agree0 Disagree0

We need fans who aren't going to moan for no reason when he hasn't played for us yet

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 14:57:34
Matt Smith to be the new Zigic circa 2011-12!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 13:52:14
So Matt Smith has joined in the Habibou/Forsell role of back up big striker. hopefully he'll be a bit better than those two!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Forgive me when was Forsell ever big?

Mikael Forssell 6ft tall
Habib Habibou 6ft 4in tall
Matt Smith 6ft 6in tall

There is a lot more to Smiths game than his height.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 13:29:36
matt smith, let's see how long it takes the players to play hoofball I think plenty of us fans will be hugely disappointed this season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 15:23:20
Underwhelmed!

Agree0 Disagree0

Who says he will even start, he could be an impact player off the bench when we need an aireal threat, good for corners too, he's going to be like our version of Crouchy

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a different option up front we have pace in poleon creativity in Ross and now height and power in smith. We haven't had anyone we can head and hold the ball up since becchio left. It's a different player with different qualities to what we already have

Agree0 Disagree0

Have you ever seen BMD allow his sides to play Hoofball? No neither have I.

Agree0 Disagree0

Becchio could only head and take penalties. Talk About holding it up he was awful.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 13:28:21
Really pleased we've signed Matt smith. I'm not saying he will be the most prolific but he will certainly cause Havok in the opponents box. And be great for flick ons to Ross and poleon.

thoughts?

StewboLUFC

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Spot on, but moronic fans will still slate him

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 13:20:48
Only reason we have signed Matt Smith is to accommodate the big wages of Noel prolific Hunt. There was no way we were ever going to sign Hunt and someone like ALF or Billy Sharp etc. Why not save the money and just get one quality striker? We have too many at the club now even with Somma on his way out. I do hope I'm proved wrong and Smith becomes the prolific striker that we missed when Becchio was given the boot.
Liverbird

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Becchio was not given the boot - He gave Leeds the boot wanting to sit on the bench at Norwich for his Premiership Dream. No goals for him since he left.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 13:18:45
So we have signed a free striker who isn't good enough for Oldhams first team and leeds fans are happy with it, we will be lucky to stay in championship next season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oldham wanted him to stay, and offered him a new contract, which he rejected. There were also numerous other clubs, Blackburn being one that wanted him. Still they all must be wrong Mc Dermott included, because your obviously much more experienced than them. God I give up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oldham wanted to keep him so he must be good enough for them and McDermott is one of the best scouts in the championship so smith must be a good player we just need to give him a chance

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 13:13:13
So finally people was right with the Smith to Leeds rumours.

Only it was Alan Smith its Matt Smith. all he needs to do is bleach his hair and nobody will no the difference with Smith on the back of the shirt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 13:07:37
Personally i'd like to see matt mills sign then peltier could move back to right back and byram could play on the wing, also I believe ashdown is a better keeper than Kenny. just my opinion

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Peltier is a liability at RB

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with this post. The Balance of the whole team would be far better, Round pegs in round holes.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 13:06:51
Matt Smith - is that really the best we can do. think this says more about the funds given to BMc by GFH. ie. diddly squat!

The lads scored 14 goals in 75 games in League One! Striker. are you having a laugh, he's in danger of being prosecuted under the trade descriptions act!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He started 4 out of 33 games, didn't really get much of a chance, did you not watch him against the scouse clubs he was class, same old fickle fans

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 13:03:39
Matt Smith done deal. Now Mills and Hunt to follow within days. Kevin Doyle not fancying Celtic, so maybe he is the next? Trust in Brian - he has a plan.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 13:02:16
Not a rumour, a fact. On OS now, we have signed big Matt Smith from Oldham. No-one saw that coming, keep on surprising us Brian. This is a young striker who can improve. He's magnificent in the air and will get better with coaching. Totally different to Warnock's old cronies. MOT Ron.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 12:46:14
Matt Smith signed from Oldham on a free.

Looked good in the cup, tall young hungry striker, if you need four solid strikers to win or compete in the championship like Cardiff had, would he fit the bill? Not sure but we need someone to hold the ball up in away games. let's get behind the team and McDermott!

we have signed matt smith from oldham on o/s now. young raw talent and hopefully fitting into big macs plans of being a "hungry" player. let's give hime a go. certainly got youth on his side.
lets hope we get a nice mix of youth and experience in the team and all of them hungry for success with leeds.

There we have it, true to his word the first signing, 24 year old out of contract, striker, imo a very good start. Gives that extra height we were lacking up front.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 12:26:00
So Matt Smith from oldham our first signing. Striker but not prolific yet, let's give him a chance he's 6ft 6" so at least we have some height up front for once. Free has signed a 2yr deal so he has only a short time to impress he's 24yr old so little outlay and maybe a gem. Welcome to ER matt smith hope you impress. MOT.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 12:04:59
will people take a reality check we can not afford to get players from the prem wages will be the sticking point for one thing. We have to be realistic in the players that we can attract I trust our new manager he has been a scout and a manager he can see a good player in the old days teams used to get the players from the lower divisions now the prem teams go abroad pay high wages for players who will stay for a while and then sod off somewhere else, I would much rather have a team of mainly british players who know how to play football, know abouth the cold winters. I think this is one of the reasons why our national teams are crap there are to many foreigners.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 10:27:23
Noel Hunt appears to be signing for us, why? He is crap.

Beckford scored more goals whilst at Leeds than Hunt has scored in is whole senior career?!

Look else where BM, Hunt is a waste of a signing

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If mcdermott thinks hunt is the sort of player we need then that's his choice its about time fans stopped slating players before they have even played a game

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 09:39:26
Anyone worried that we seem to be being linked with everyone BUT wingers? We desperately needed wide men last season and I'd say we need at least two. Concerns me that we aren't linked with any!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Only Links we have are speculation from people who don't know jack s***, don't you think BMD knows we need width and a bit of pace in the team??

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2013 07:57:39
: GFH have got money patels got £65. 21 and mr haigh (I bought scarf so I'm a Leeds fans ) has £28. 39 so looks like its a McDs breakfast on them

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Jun 2013 02:01:06
Really hope Noel Hunt won't be signing - his goal scoring record 33 goals in 145 appearances for Reading is just not good enough. Would love to see Beckford back, he is our proven goal scorer and would be a player who gets jerseys sold unlike Hunt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Beckford. beckford, beckford. borinnnngg. bore off. move on

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know why people keep slating Beckfords record. He scored more goals than anyone else since Lee Chapman and had pace which we are currently lacking. Ok so he followed the money before going to Everton but has now swallowed his pride and moved back dwon the leagues. I for one would love to see him back as he would help us move back up the table lokoing for promotion

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jun 2013 21:36:08
Cant understand why people so excited about the possible signing of LeFondre. Billy Sharp would score twice as many for us next year! Maybe because he scored a few in premiere last season mainly as a sub and late goals but he is not a player for us. In fact I think he's a division 1 player at best! In fact think Beckford would get more than LeFondre!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He has scored double figures this season, he is not a div 1 player. It doesn't matter if he scores goals late on at all, what matters is that he scores them.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jun 2013 21:17:32
Mcdermott believes poleon will play a crucial role next year as our outlet of pace to change the game. He views noel hunt as the back up striker to mccormack and morison upfront. Bids for matt mills and reece wabara have been made as he sees mills as our starting centre back with lees next season. Danny pugh will go to preston and chris dawson is being sent out on loan. Mcdermotts is now targeting 2 wingers and a playmaker centre mid.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sounds plausible and I really hope your correct on this!
