Obvious to me Howson won't sign. To be a side vying for the Premiership you need 4 or 5 Premiership class players. He's one of them! So either you offer that player better wages when their contract comes up or you let them go. Jermaine and Bradley were such players. I am not saying they are top Premiership class but they are at least squad material. That's all you need for an agent to demand more money and hence the interest from Bolton and Blackburn. They'll be offering him 25 or 30 a week so what is going to keep him at Leeds? Bates would have to stretch to 20 a week but I don't think he can even do that. Howson's gone in my opinion....unless Papa can attract investment pretty quick....investors working alongside Papa??...yep that'll work...Howson is gone!

So how come Beckford is back in the championship?

Agree1 Disagree2

An extra few thousand got beckford back down - he's on way over treble what he was on at leeds

Agree4 Disagree0

Few thousand? more like about an extra 30 thousand, dirty money grabber

Agree1 Disagree1

Maybe he is earning more than he was at Leeds, but he is no longer in the Premiership which the original post was about.

I would imagine a good percentage of championship players are earning more than Leeds are paying, doesn't mean they are premiership class.

Sometimes it pays to take a lower wage, get the right job, get the experience, prove yourselve, and then earn higher money than those who took a better rate to start with and end up staying there....

.... I speak from personal experience!

Agree1 Disagree0

Beckford is back in the Championship due to more money at Leicester from his POV and from Everton's POV they made a few quid on him in almost no time at all. He still scored 10 goals in the Premiership. I say he is still Premiership class albeit a useful squad player only. The main point about Jonny H is although Howson blows hot and cold more than any other Leeds player I have ever seen past or present when he does play he shows signs of another Premiership class player and he is developing a reputation as being a frequent goalscorer in a 4-5-1 formation hence why those 2 Lancashire clubs want him. Unless Papa comes up with 20 per week he will leave. Bradley all over again.

The only good thing about nunez signing is that,when we sell him which won't be long we will get a fee,cos the lad is lazy and won't even get in the 16,:all he will ever be is an over rated bit part player,only reason he signed is because he won't be able to do any better.

Two great goals at doncaster where he played striker, nothing really worthy of credit when he played on the wing. Hmmmm notice any patterns? Grayson obviously doesn't

Agree8 Disagree0

Ramon Nunez has potential as a second striker sitting behind a loan front man, which are good tactics for away games. When played in this role he looks very good indeed. When forced to play LM he has looked poor, this is not his fault but rather SG should take the blame for forcing this on him.

Agree8 Disagree0

I was at the Donny game - all he did was score those two goals. Great finishes maybe, but over the course of a season Nunez will cost more goals than he scores and lose us more games than he wins unless he learns to get involved, track back, fight for the ball when we lose it and so on. Since Pugh came in at LM we have looked a MUCH better, more balanced team and he's scored two MUCH more important goals for us leading to 6 points and fifth place.

Ed, do you have any idea who the trialist is at the minute? From the OS it would appear to be a winger...any news would be appreciated. Youngie! {Ed001's Note - I don't, but I will see if I can find out now.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Cheers mate, much obliged! {Ed001's Note - so far I am drawing a blank, lots of possible names thrown at me, but never the same name twice, which tells me they are probably guessing. I managed to speak to a Chesterfield official, who was at the match, he said he didn't have a clue who it was. Though it could just be that he wasn't really taking any notice, rather than it being an unknown.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed.... possibly ryan crowther? {Ed001's Note - it could well be, that would explain a thing or two, his name was mentioned by a journalist as a possible. But no one seems sure, which does suggest a non-league player.}
