Not LUFC related, but I have a theory as to why Belgium don't seem to do as well as they should.
Most of their players play in the Premier League.
So maybe the Premier League isn't as good as we're lead to believe.
You watch, they'll go and win the bloody thing now!

that might be why England always do rubbish as well.

14 Jun 2016 14:07:13
I agree. I don't know why they are ranked 2. I've never seen them play well and I think it's because of their players playing in prem. They don't make gifted players as much as Spain Italy and South America. Their players are more like Norway Denmark and English. I know all above teams have exception to the rule but general the colder countries breed less exciting players. Me thinks.

I think the team is a team of stars but not a "team" Spain and Italy were also like this in the 60s/ 70s. What they need is a no nonsense manager to drill a system into them and stop playing like individuals. They have a defence that cannot defend as a unit and a midfield that does not track back and link defence and attack. If a Mourinho or a Fergie type can go in with a big stick, harness their potential, then there is no reason why they cannot win a tournament. Probably not this one though.

England play their most famous not most talented or in form . How sturridge made the squad and not troy deeney is beyond me.

I believe the prem season is too draining and players don't get a proper rest. The FA need to introduce a mid season break, reduce the number of games or something else to look after the players better.
Combine that the prem being one of the most competitive leagues in the world, anyone can beat anyone on the day, then the teams need to put out pretty much a full strength team every week to have the best chance of winning.

Yeah, I think they should only play one game every two weeks and make a season last 2 years so they don't get too tired between games?

FFS these are professional sportsmen being paid seriously high wages and given all the facilities and professional training and help to keep fit?

I am knocking on 60 and participate in sport three to four times a week and pay to do it, lovingly.

Any professional sportsman that can't play 2 to 3 times a week and keep fit (on how many thousands of pounds a week? ) should seriously think about their livelihood?

Top professional athletes bodies need time to recover especially when they get past their peak age in the late twenties, flying all over Europe to play European games takes it out of the body also. Playing as many games they do in English footie then players can't be expected to play at their peak week in week out.
It doesn't matter how much money they're on, a body can only do so much or risk a major injury.
How many athletes these days play with niggling injuries which they can shift, take pain killing injections just so they can still play?

I seem to remember at school running around like a demon all day and playing after school games then playing Sat and Sun as I got older. Many a day doing homework in the playground before school as the prev evening I was up on the park playing football until dark. I even remember painting the ball white so we could squeeze a few more minutes of darkness until "next goal wins".
Again at work, playing Sat and Sun and (I don't know if it still exists but) Weds afternoons in the half day league in Leeds. And holding down a job and going out at nights with my mates. Maybe I wasn't playing at the same level but I still gave my all for 90 mins on pitches that were sometimes mudbaths sometimes skating rinks. On both a sliding tackle meant you didn't know when you were going to stop sliding. On mudbaths it felt like the Grand National up and down that bloody pitch for 90 gruelling minutes. Prima Donnas now, the lot of them. If the FA do impose a winters break there should be a "no games, no tours" clause else the teams will be travelling all around the world to be shown off by their new owners/ sponsors. Maybe they should all be tagged. Stay at home with Horlicks and a biscuit every evening.

Apparently we have an 'Ex Leeds' goalkeeper signed up to coach our present goalkeepers, someone by the name of Darryl Flahaven?

Maybe I am just getting old and senile, but I have never seen this guy play in goal for Leeds? And, yes, I actually can remember Gary Sprake between the posts, so not that senile, yet?

I had a lot of optimism about the appointment of Monk, but after seeing Bridlington announce a pre-match friendly and then seeing this 'non entity' employed as a goalkeeping coach I guess we are back to the 'same old, same old'

I really hope this season will be different, but I'm not holding my breath any more?

Even the players we have released are STILL here despite all the 'massive; interest for them?

A good goalkeeping coach does not have to have been a top goalie. The last one was not but everyone was so upset when he went to bigger job. let's give him a chance before we string him up.

"Jose and Arsene were never top players so doesn't worry me either"

Yeah, but neither of them are individual coaches, either?

Leeds have produced some good goalkeepers through the years (even dodgy ones like Schmeichel) and several international ones, so why do think this guy has what it takes?

I'd take Martin back any day for this post.

Come on MC, enough is enough. Garry Monk MUST be sacked immediately. He's been in the job for a week and a half now, and how many points have we got? NONE! How many of his signings have scored? NONE!
Absolutely useless. He's got to have the worst manager (head coach) record yet.
You should sack him before he becomes yet another embarrassment for the club.

I've never thought he was premier league standard even at Man U.
Always thought he has been lucky to play in top flight all his career.
Having said that he could be class in the championship.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2016 16:02:57
No thank you. Still hold him responsible, personally, for our current predicament. If his own goal had stood when Leeds played Man U towards the end of the 02 03 season we would have had Champions league football the following season. He had a shocker of a game but the ref decided to give a free kick to Man U instead. Perfectly good own goal but refs were quite blatant about their cheating favour of Man United back then. Smith booked for having the sheer audacity of tackling Fabien Bartez who was about 30 yards outside his area doing his outfield suicide bit. Perfectly good challenge on an outfield player. Can't help it. Blood still boils.

City W, I hold Gary McAllister responsible for our current position. He stole 20 yards to put himself in a scoring position from a free kick against Everton to win 3-2 to seal our fate down to 4th position thus meaning we were out of the European Championship. youtu.be/YugvLIbUmQM
