On a non Leeds note. I can't believe Gary Rowett has been sacked today. Excellent manager and motivator in my opinion. He won't be short of offers.

Unlike Noel Whelan who has surely ended his fledgling career as a football pundit.

14 Dec 2016 22:22:49
Noel Whelan graduated with a masters from the Ron Atkinson School of Soccer Punditry. I can't understand it! MM.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2016 23:25:19
Noel is obviously not comfortable with his sexuality. It takes a real man to wear multicolored shell suits and know what he wants when it comes to the nitty-gritty.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Dec 2016 13:45:29
Hear that MM? Wexy is calling your SIL the nitty gritty?

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Dec 2016 17:01:40
Lets hope it blows up in there faces Scoops! I couldn't believe it either, the only people I feel sorry for are the fans . On a positive for us Norwich are hit and miss, if Birmingham also start to fall away with Jan coming a play off place looking a real prospect .

15 Dec 2016 17:28:53
I can't see it being positive for Brum, I don't rate Zola but yes hopefully it will work in our favour.

I hear him Georgie Boy. Wex old son, I would love to spend five minutes in the sister in law's nitty gritty rather than having to make do with pinching her kecks off the washing line for a sniff of the old girls Morris Minor! MM.

I would be over the moon if we only signed the loans on permanents and monk on a long term contract. Worried that if the takeover goes ahead monk will get the push.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

14 Dec 2016 20:47:36
Ben AR would be a lunatic if he got rid of Monk. I wouldn't be over the moon though without new blood coming in. Striker, attacking midfielder and central defender all need to arrive in January.

Agree8 Disagree1

14 Dec 2016 21:02:09
George I agree he would be, but look at Birmingham today! I also agree that new blood would be great, but the priority has to be tie everyone up ready spending more in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2016 21:17:44
Ben Disagree. We have a real chance to go up in May. To be in the playoffs almost halfway through the season without another striker genuinely challenging Wood is testimony to how well the team is playing and Monk and Clotet management which has even impressed me. To not add in January as I've identified is an act of lunacy. I understand about tying up the likes of PJ PH and Barkley but if there's only enough funds for 3 to come in while those guys stay on loan that's the main priority imo. Accession to PL can be worth over 150m to the club in long-run.

Agree5 Disagree1

14 Dec 2016 21:31:24
Or George we spend on other players, keep them on loan, don't go up and loose them in the summer! To me surely the priority is to guarantee to keep our team and management together and then and only then go for others in there is extra or spare cash available. We of all teams shouldn't gamble anything.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2016 22:23:56
We don't need to sign Sacko and Bartley in January, PH is only on loan till January so he is needed and Jansson is too important to not sign at the earliest opportunity. We still need a striker, creative midfielder, GK and back up CB.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Dec 2016 02:20:34
SG has things pretty much spot on. Don't see GK as a priority. Silvestre looking like a fairly capable replacement but the other positions are obvious.

Agree1 Disagree1

15 Dec 2016 07:25:40
IMO the difference between this season and last is we aren't conceding as many goals. Get Pontus and Barkley signed permanently first and hopefully the rest will follow. As for Monk, I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to replace him (and his team) now as we are overachieving which to shows he is a decent coach/manager.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Dec 2016 09:11:48
Agree Danum. Anyone suggesting replacing Monk and Clotet need locking up. They are the main pieces of the jigsaw and I believe the reason why players will want to stay and why owners will want to invest . It's true new owners often want to bring new people in, but at the moment there's no one in my view who I'd want to replace GM. And I agree we want Pontus asap, but if things continue as they are, I can't seem him wanting a move. Don't forget he's more about the love than the dollars, and he ain't going to get more love anywhere else than he's getting here atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Dec 2016 15:15:50
Bang on SG exactly what we need. At the moment with injuries we are shuffling a decreasing number of players into a formation that suits us this can only go on for so long, if we fail to add to the squad in January our season could implode. The only thing I would add to SG''s post is we also need to offload players who are no longer needed at the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Dec 2016 17:08:51
SG is on the money give Pilot and PH contracts this frees up two loans Striker, GK are must attacking m/f and c/b .

Transfer targets and Christmas wishes for the January window? I've looked at Adel Taarabt, hasn't played any first team football for benfica since joining 2 years ago and ripped this league apart, big name as well. Also like to assess bridcutt before then and see whether he's up to it, I'm sure he will brand will make Phillips and vieira thrive and push for a place, other than this I'd like to see maybe a centre forward like Nakhi Wells come in, could easily get 10 goals from January onwards with the support from Taylor, Sacko, Roofe? If it's not too much to ask for SantaπŸ˜„.

A few people have mentioned they would like to see a new striker and with Woody possibly sidelined and always a need for options, competition and back up who would you realistically like to see in Jan that is available? or do we already have the perfect answer in The Douk?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Dec 2016 15:10:35
Douk not the answer.

14 Dec 2016 16:09:22

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2016 17:15:08
Doukara is not the answer he's not good enough, I've said before and I'll say again Antonsson will do more damage than Doukara, January is going to be massive in who we get to compete up front.

power passion at last . were playing well and now players know they have to or dropped as others pushing for a place . if we keep this up then we will be up up up . back where we belong . now the players should know we can now beat any team in this league home or away . just need a few more goals . let's hope for 4-1 saturday . merry xmas.

An excellent result last night. Just when you think you have 'sussed' the players they step up a level. Dallas who I always rate as 'just a workhorse' used this ability to press the opposition to very good effect. He even ran past defenders on more than one occasion I couldn't believe it. He had an excellent game. Having just posted that Sacko has got pace but nothing much else he puts in a performance like that. He was the stand out player for me last night. Jansson and Bartley were again commanding although Pontus did miss a tackle which was unusual for him. Ayling was again outstanding as was Bridcutt when he came on. Taylor was very good. Vierra played very well and he is getting better all the time. He did give the ball away in dangerous positions a couple of times but we can forgive him that. Wood scored again so can't complain although he never really looks like he is going to score till he does. If he keeps scoring I am going have to stop saying I don't rate him above 'OK'. Maybe it's just that I have seen better and more exciting at Leeds and I am spoilt. Having said that I have seen a lot worse. Mowatt didn't set the pitch on fire and Neither did Grimes. They will need more time but they do look well short of what we need. Doukara has come on massively and had a very good game although he didn't seem as happy in the role he was given after Wood went off. All in all a very good result against a very good side who were extremely boring. If that what they normally play like I would hate to have watch that every week.

Always rated Dallas, one of them unsung hero types . Sacko had his best game. Taylor has finally started playing like he should be playing, hopefully with an eye on a new contract (at Leeds) Have to agree about Wood, never looks like he'll score and then next minute the ball's in the onion bag :)

Quoted from a famous British Broadcasting Corpoaration website ' Reading manager Jaap Stam told BBC Radio Berkshire: "I thought we played very, very well tonight, I think that was one of our best games'. I know Stam, as any good manager should do, stand up for his players in public but come on, was he watching the same game as we were last night?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

14 Dec 2016 14:27:29
Someone needs to explain to Mr Stam that the objective of the game is to get the ball into the other teams net. You get nothing for just keeping possession. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

One of their best games? the mind boggles!! I said at the game that I didn't know how they were 3rd, they seemed to suddenly realise they were losing in the 76th minute . good at passing in their own half, wish more teams would play like them :)

What a win last night, not only a win but the manner of the win! Everyone worked their socks off and no one had a bad game. I just don't know what to do about Wood. He by far is not a natural goalscorer; but he scores goals. What's that all about? After seeing him perform in other games I tend to agree with the "where would we be with a proper striker" camp having said that if his goals are getting us to fifth then he has a strong case for inclusion. I am just so confused. but finally it was good to see Garry giving youth a taste. If they are good enough they are old enough. Let Garry decide, he's not doing too bad so far.

What a good result last night I just wanted to single out a few players Jansson - Loads been already said but a Club legend already Doukara - What a character this guy has The way this guy has forced his way back is immense Ayling - Grows and grows a Prem player in the making Taylor - Whatever the future holds for Taylor he has not let us down on the pitch. Pro! Sacko - Showed his class, missing a goal, when he starts I think we will see him step up again. be a shame to lose him but will be too expensive. Monk - The man that made all this happen. Wood - Rode the flack and delivers again and again.

Tactically spot on from Monk last night. When I saw the team I was worried as we appeared to have no midfield however we maintained a disciplined two banks of fours with Viera between the defence and midfield with Wood as the lone striker. Reading did not seem to have an answer and constantly passed the ball between their back four which brought ironic olays from our crowd. The injury to Wood disrupted us for about 10 mins but we settled back down and gained control of the game. Reading did have a lot of possession but did not do much with it and we were quite happy for them to have the ball in areas that could not damage us. All played well but special mention to Dallas who worked his nuts off, Taylor (except one pass back mistake) kept McCleary fairly quite and won the penalty, Ayling for some good covering around the back two and Viera who seems to get better each game. Good to see Bridcutt back who despite looking a bit rusty slotted in and communicated well with midfield to maintain the shape. Worried about Wood being injured because he is pivotal to how we play and really is looking physically fitter this season.

These are dangerous times. Monkey Magic continues to woo the fans with marvellous results and I'm now getting to the stage where I'm expecting to win games - especially at home. Its a bit like when you first start going out with a girl, at first you're a bit cagey and you're happy to get a quick bang in wherever you're allowed but then with time you start to trust her and with that comes certain expectations. That's good, but it also means that now your guard has been lowered she can hurt you, by either not living up to expectations or, worse, by leaving you for someone else. I'm now at the stage where I fear I can get hurt by Monkey if he stops delivering or if he goes elsewhere. It might be time to put a ring on it by offering him a new contract, or, figuratively speaking, get him knocked up with some new babies for his team. Or, preferably, both!
