George, with all the will in the world I sympathise with haighs situation but that saying " no smoke without fire " comes to mind?

Peterboro
David Haigh was more naive, trusting and silly than arch criminal. He was setup. GFH on the other hand is exactly what's wrong with the world. I actually met a guy a week ago who was involved in anti-corruption activities in the middle east pertaining sport especially the Olympics and football. Cut long convo short and let me put it this way what we think of GFH he knows.
Tbh GFH should never have been allowed to purchase us but as questionable as they are Bates is the worst person in this. He sold to them. I recall distinctly him telling fans he may be many things but he'd only sell to someone with best interests of club at heart and with deeper pockets than him. He flagrantly broke those promises. Free David Haigh.

I don't for a minute think whatever he's done warrants being kept inside without charge for so long. Believe he deserves a fair trial at the very least.
And you are wrong Pete. There is often smoke without fire. That's what keeps the gutter press in business.

agree sometimes there is some without fire and sometimes people blow smoke over some poor other bloke to set them right up. I think GFH are definatly dodgy not just for leeds but in general. And bates didn't sell us for the best of the club he sold us because we had no more decent players or assest such as er to sell. if bates wanted what was best for leeds he would of kept our players brought maybe one or two more and we would of gone prem. the dirty cockney didn't want the northern lot to do well. he is a scum bag of the highest order.
{Ed001's Note - to be fair, it really doesn't matter what GFH are, Haigh is a bellend who committed fraud, knowingly. He was not naive, it is ridiculous and a downright lie to suggest a trained solicitor was being naive when knowingly breaking the law. He knew what he was doing and so it is difficult to have sympathy with him for being caught. Though I do ympathise with him being locked up out here, it is not nice.}

I don't always agree with Georgy but I believe he is right on this one.
Im not saying what he did was correct but he was well and truly stitched up by co owners of LUFC. Bad bastards that they are. What he has had to indure over there is ridiculous after being cohersed over there by them. And those who believe he deserves what he's getting just imagine if that was you or a member of your family.

yeah I think that is my thoughts ed001. I don't know the ins and outs but I don't think he is innocent he is too clever to be innocent. not sure he is 100 guilty in the sense he might not know the full extent of what was going on and he can not be solely liabel (it must take more than one person to be guilty here) . My symapathy lies with where he is and what he could be facing, if he was over here I wouldn't give it 2nd thought really.
{Ed001's Note - it is not a nice place in that regard. That is why Abu Dhabi bought Man City in the first place, to try and steer publicity away from their human rights record. However Haigh is not suffering anything like the trials and tribulations or harsh treatment that the vast majority of immigrant workers do in the UAE every day. He is not working out in the middle of the desert with little to no water, being paid a pittance and having your passport impounded by your company so you can't run away. Knowing that your whole family are dependent on your earnings to feed themselves. Knowing you have to put up with it and can't complain or they will just send you home with no money to survive and a block on your passport to stop you ever working here again. Haigh actually has it easy in comparison to most here.}

ed, "to be fair" you put people on trial and PROVE their alleged crimes.
getting on for 2 years now in prison without trial., GFH are the problem here and he is quite possibly as bad as them but at one point he WAS a part of them. I suspect GFH will not change their ways somehow and DH will be scapegoated by them in concert with the corrupt UAE criminal justice system (contradiction in terms)
{Ed001's Note - sorry but the problem is the UAE system, not GFH, and Haigh's actions. As for the corruption of the UAE system, I think you need to reign it in a bit, this is not about corruption, it is not a twisting of the rules going on. This is simply the way it is. It does need changing and there is corruption here, but that is not what is causing this particular problem. Well other than the corruption of inputting fraudulent invoices, which is only implicating Haigh as they came from him.}

Ed001, for the most part you are right but he was only caught because he was naive. Travelling to GFH's back yard having submitted those invoices was dumb. Had he stayed in the UK, any complaint from GFH would've eventually seen all of them arrested too. Therefore DH's naivety and his being caught are inextricably linked.
{Ed001's Note - I would call that stupid, and it is not their backyard, they are not based here.}

That's what I was trying to get across ed? Thanks.
{Ed001's Note - you are welcome.}

Surely the question should be 'is there any fire without smoke'?
