We should stop trying to play football become more defensive and learn to kick players we've been doing it all wrong up to now why can't anyone see that

Should never have sold bridcutt or got rid of monk! They knew how to defend!

Nottsman. I fully understand that but don't tell me that they are tried after 8 bloody games and they had an international break in that period, you can say they had a bad day at the office or eat to much but tried now way get real mate, let's hope all the other teams have the same tried bug!

The defeat is not the end of the world, as some seem to think. TC made clear earlier, we would have days like this. We have 17 points from 8 games, if we keep taking 17 points from ever 8 games, we should be champions. That will do for me. MOT

How can anyone say the loss yesterday was because the players were tired unbelievable they are paid lots of money had months off work and only 8 games in perhaps we should have a season of 10 games and the players can rest the the rest of the year unbelievable just totally unbelievable

This isn't a kick around your local park Whitman. You may have noticed that we are playing this season with a greater level of intensity which will take some players longer to recover.

We have got to play our bigger more physical players like Grot, for the more physical away games especially . We can bring in the flair players later in the game

We need to mix silk with steel not abandon what we have started because we have lost one game. The issue with yesterday was that players are tired as we play a high pressing game therefore TC needs to make better use of the squad which has infinitely more quality than in previous seasons.

Good posts. I'd have certainly played Swiss Army Knife, RV and Grot but this still a curve of education for Top Cat. Lesson learned when playing physical teams match them at least for first hour, 70 minutes. We all knew that but now so does TC. The reaction is what's important now and I'd set up for another physical encounter with Burnley.

Have been trying to write similar for the last ten minutes, but keep getting clotched! We are Leeds, and should be able to front up any team in this league when it comes to mentality, and physicality, whilst also been able to play good quality football, as we have been up to yesterday. I do reckon that the squad we have allows us to do so, and it's just about mixing it up for the right games, or at the right time n each match! MOT!

Saturday a good reality check for some of our newbies. At least they now know that some British teams do not give an inch of the park. Unlike on the Continent where a lot of teams give up the middle of the park. Hopefully they will learn and TC will drill into them how to combat the more physical teams.

Got to say I'm not a huge fan of the formation we play, especially without having a 'batty' type number 4.
It is wonderful when it works and allows us to stream forward, such as vs burton, but if it doesn't work we're open in the middle. It also takes a lot of subs and tinkering if it doesn't work, as essentially you have to bring people like roofe or siaz back and they aren't that type of player. I don't have a solution and don't claim to, as more solid middle players don't have the goals and creativity. Perhaps we need to go out in January and focus on getting two proper number 4s rather than more attacking players

We have a proper number 4.viera

I went to the game yesterday curahee and in my opinion that game was for players like Dallas/viera, I can see why he didn't change a winning team but we got outfought all over the pitch, they picked all the 2nd balls up. don't really remember us creating anything of note. jury still out on alioski for me personally, not sure if he's been over hyped, lassoga needs to be a lot more phisical but that will come as he gets more used to the championship, just hope Pontus didn't pull his hamstring and just felt a tweak, we only have shaunassey available for Tuesday night as it stands and he's a make shift centre back.3 points next Saturday and we will be back on track. 👍

We have the squad what we need is a system to cope with the pounding we will get from physical teams. I too do not really have an answer, but merely a suggestion, and at the end of the day have full faith in TC. Would it be advisable to play 2 DMs in those type of games or at least play Viera+Phillips with the instructions not to get too cavalier and think destructive and defensive first. As a wild thought I would even try Berardi in a DM role?

Well said Wex, and I'm still a fan of the way we play, just a bit disappointed with losing. Having said that, McFlytipper scored the last time we won at the den.

17 Sep 2017 12:46:58
A week ago we were slating bridcutt for being too defensive and praising the fact Phillips was encouraged to be more attacking. Now we need to change that after a bad result and they will be plenty of good teams coming from the den after losing by a goal

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Sep 2017 13:19:59
Wex that's what I'm saying when it works it's great, when it doesn't we get totally pounded. It's a learning curve that TC is having, when to use that formation and when not to. I'm sure he'll have learnt a lot from yesterday

Agree1 Disagree1

17 Sep 2017 13:25:41
Still am a fan of the way we play wex, never said I wasn't, not every team is going to 'let' us play, millwall started strong, bullied us more or less all over the pitch, saiz, Hernandez and alioski were virtually anonymous, some games it may be that we need to get a foot hold in the game And introduce them off the bench once the game has opened up and calmed down.

Sounds sensible to me. TC knows what he's doing, after all look at what he did in his interview, pulling the team and performances apart from

Think the may have had their mind on Tuesday, instead of focussing on the game they were playing

Believable0 Unbelievable7

17 Sep 2017 21:32:24
Don't see why the players would have their minds on Tuesdays game, personally apart from the Taylor/Wood factor it's just another cup game. I would rather lose this one then any league game. We need to except that we lost a match against a team that raised their game against the team at the top of the league. Time will tell if TC has learnt anything from this game. Yesterday's chip paper, move on.

I don't think people should say. At least we still top. Its not important atm. What is important is the performance. Which looked dire. Hope we learn from it. Plenty more tough days at office to come.

17 Sep 2017 09:07:57
You are right to concentrate on the performance, very disappointing and surprising after the progress made to date. I think when people are referring to us still being top, it highlights the really good stuff to date that has taken us there. This was by far the worst performance this season and this time we couldn't change the game with substitutes, which was also worrying. I would probably have tried Viera in the second half, he can be aggressive and assert himself and it would have been interesting to see. I am sure the boss will be having a good long look at the game and coming up with some solutions.

Well, Ipswich should give us a test of our metal, so we could possibly get a clearer picture as to whether we are about as strong as i had began to dare to hope, or whether there is still a bit to do. Stunned at exactly how bad it was.

Dunno if that suggestion is tongue in cheek Aus, but I reckon bezza would do a right job at 4, when we need a bit of steel in midfield!

17 Sep 2017 11:23:49
in total ten games played, nine very good performances, one bad! No Cooper yesterday, the team still getting to know each other, one bad game! We don't need to drastically change anything and as I said before like MM said it was Millwalls cup final, I've seen enough over the last few weeks to suggest we will be ok, we've got the players, so what if they didn't show up yesterday, I mean bloody hell how many times didn't they turn up last season? Tuesday will be tough but I would put my life on us playing our best again against Ipswich, the players we have will be hurting and so will TC so keep your knickers on and don't panic! MOT

TC has thus far done his homework and his selection has been spot on. Yesterday not quite right but I think he will of learnt a lot about the players and this league. It's early days and as I said in a previous post, we can learn from this and move on. We need to learn, adapt and keep em guessing then change it to make them work. We can all suggest what we could/should have done and all have an opinion but yesterday is past and we move on. Love the banter and reading the posts - even learning a few new words 😂 Positivity reigns. We have a good coach, good management, we are not scratching around financially and have awesome fans. Personally- I'll take that. MOT

Completely agree mate. Yesterday was an off day but it doesn't mean the team are rubbish or we won't be challenging somewhere around the top 6 come the end of the season, just like the other week when we'd won a few playing good stuff we weren't the best team in the world and nailed on to run away with the league. From what I've seen on Facebook and twitter some of our fans jump from one extreme to the other from week to week. This is a tough league, every team can beat each other on any given day. We're still a new team working on gelling together, some times we'll get it right, sometimes we won't. So far though I'm happy with what I've seen so far and we're getting it right more often than we get it wrong. Looking forward to the next game and the rest of the season whatever it may bring.

Let's see how we learn from this result, agree with the above post that we aren't a rubbish team, we are still a work in progress and promotion is earned over the course of a whole season not just one result. Newcastle lost their first few matches last season but went on to win the league. I know we will get behind the team, defeat is always hard to take but part of football and it's how we react after a defeat that matters. Come on lads this season offers so much.
