What the hell is happening, have we or have we not gat a coach. Sre we getting a director of football, or just cellino. don't think cellino's got to grips with the ledds fans yet, he's in for a skock

Question: With Cellino concentrating on youth and cheap signings, plus a relative unknown coach who is good at spotting hidden diamonds - does that equal Leeds Utd turning into Dario Gradi's Crewe Alexandra? Lots of good ethics, plus financially sound, but never going to be back in the Premier League?

This time next year it will be a case so the last man out of Elland road to switch off the lights. We used to be a massive club. I'm in Northern Ireland. There are many Many Leeds fans but they are all 50+ or late twenties which reflects are periods of success in the past. There are no ten year olds wearing Leeds shirts any more. So having gone through the season where we became a laughing stock MC intends to appoint an unheard of 56 year old from some pub team. That will really inspire our future fans to choose to follow the whites. We are a decade away from the top table with precious few crumbs coming our way. Not the time to gamble on some nobody with a poor enough record. We just cannot afford another disaster season. Get a grip MC it's your money on the line!!

On the other hand you seem to be a crafty old codger. Maybe you have the word of some well respected coach a couple of months away from the end of his contract and want some cheepo who will be cheep to sack and pay off come the time. Only one problem with that plan, we'll be rock bottom by that time. Your going to find that light switch under you finger. Together the marchers on won't stand for such madness. They are no mugs you know. You have the vast majority behind you right now so why risk that. Have a stiff veno and catch a grip!

Easy Merv

Look where Man City were not so long ago, 3rd tier of English football and going nowhere.

Now they fill their stadium and in the Champions League. I'm not saying that with MC we are going to replicate what Man City have done but if we get back to the Premier League, I am sure we will have no problem filling the stadium again.

Lets face it, we were being bled dry by Bates, GFH and god knows what would have happened if David Haigh had taken over!

To me, if MC takes us back to the PL and keeps us there, I for one will be a happy man for the foreseeable future. We can then build on this which I think most LUFC fans would take right now.

Lets be the 12th man this season and get back to the PL.

All this negative talk guys, it could be worse, you could be Spanish right now.

Lets see what happens after 10-15 games and then let's make our minds up. The main thing that concerns me is will MC continue his policy of firing coaches every time he buys a new pair of shoes.

It could be a real roller coaster ride for the next 22 years guys.

Totally agree! We will rant we will moan, but none of us can stop being Leeds.

I for one had never heard of Brendan Rogers and even then he had a couple of misses before things started moving forward at Swansea.

Come on let's leave the negativity with last season, give whoever a real chance. Supporters clue is in the title.

Agree0 Disagree0

The players weren't good enough last season and they certainly won't be good enough this season, players like Austin are at Hockaday's coaching level meaning non league and Austin isn't the only one, another problem there isn't the aggression or passion in our support like they used to be too many fans are easily pleased these days.

If it's true that the players can't have belief in a new coach why would we & moreover why would MC. He's a stubborn man but surely not stupid enough to jeopardise big crowds or the possibility of relegation. Think he's watching lufc reaction on social media & will be influenced by our reaction. It's wrong but if it gets us a better quality coach so be it. I'll get behind whoever he chooses but doesn't mean I'd be happy.

Thanks Chrish, we'll pack ER as we always do to begin with & fill our quotas away so now we need the club/players/coach to do their bit. I'd feel comfortable with a better coach & some decent quality players even if Ross went. I want to see energetic passing football with some youth in side. We have needed that player who will run at defences, control the middle of the pitch for so long now. I'm hoping MC has this player in mind even if he costs us good money. Roll on pre ssn so we can see where we are MOT

Just been listening to Bob Hunt a forest green reporter who knew Hockaday well, it has made me very worried he stated he was good at spotting players who had slipped through the net at 18-19 yrs and was good at coaching young players, however has real problems with experienced players and handling them, he had a terrible record there as manager relegation and another season just kept them up, overall a poor CV fans down there cannot believe he has got the Leeds and they are not the only ones

5.32pm at the time of writing and no sign of coach appointment. I thought today was supposed to be the day. Has MC been taken aback by the fans' reaction and is having second thoughts?

Right, I don`t claim to be in the know very often, but had an interesting chat with a guy I work with today. He used to be a youth player at Cirencester and played under "Hockey".
His verdict was that we have acquired ourselves a very very good coach. A man who can be strict and who`s man management is not the best, but all in all a good acquisition for the job in hand COACHING!
I will be giving my full support until something drastic changes my mind. The guy deserves a fair crack at it.
Who knows, We might be 10 clear at xmas, lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If he was a very good coach at the age of 56 he would be well known well respected and not getting sacked at a non league club, what's next unknown non league players coming in Trev?

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow! A positive comment from a player from Cirencester. Remind me what division they are in?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hmmm peoples negativity is very depressing.
All I`m saying is let's give the guy a chance.
He`s coached at much higher levels than Cirencester.
And we are not any more than a mid table championship team, so get real.
I want what's best for Leeds like everyone else.
Patience is a virtue.

Agree0 Disagree0

We've been patient for 10 years Trev, Cellino will run Leeds like he did his other club we'll get nobody's because he won't pay the wage's that's needed to compete in the championship.

Agree0 Disagree0

I get where your coming from Kop, and I too am sick of waiting for a return to both the prem and better football in general.
I`m just looking for positives and keeping an open mind.
Maybe. just maybe it might work :)

Ianjohn did you say we don't want a season like last season re support. I think you'll find we supported McD over and above what he deserved. Even stopped him from getting sacked 1st time.
I for one will get behind lufc as I have for decades but I hate the way this club tests ya loyalty to the full every year. Having to believe & get behind someone who has no right to even get near lufc is exactly that situation. I can't believe in Hockaday & I can only hope the players do or were screwed. I've got me ssn tkt & will be backing us all the way as usual especially if our pre ssn form allows me to be more optimistic. Heart & head about lufc & Hockaday, just wish both were in agreement

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What I meant sloughwhites is fans didn't get behind Cellino at first and players were also getting some stick ie Hunt, zaliukas and a few others its a hard game is football and I bet most fans who didn't get behind the players have never played at a high standard. Also its too early to say Hockaday is not going to be a good enough coach if the guy is as bad as everyone is saying he is going to need all the support he can get and I think with are great fans we can help him and the players do good this season maybe not promotion but a respectable league position.

Before people dismiss Dave Hockaday, let me remind you of a young man, from a small town in what we call Palestine today, a man who no-one who had heard of, a lowly carpenter's son who went on to make quite a name for himself. I talk of course, of Moujid Hababa who took Lebanese side Hadja Qaik to promotion in1994. I think we should all bear that in mind and don't, I implore you, google any of the above.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Son of a Carpenter that work miracles!! Wasn't that Jesus Dr T?
Although God help us with Wackaday! MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

A better example is a guy who no one had heard of who had been a second rate lower division goalie, who happened to speak Spanish and English so was doing some translation work for Bobby Robson- he's now regarded as one of the best in the world.unfortunately he's at Chelsea some 10-15 years later.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thing is Drummistman, Hockaday's been coaching for years without really making waves. There are loads of good coaches who never played or played lower league football (many schoolteachers become managers for instance) but they rose through the ranks quickly as coaches because they had a talent. Wilko, Hodgson, Wenger and the Special One to which you refer are all good examples. Hockaday's coaching career hasn't exactly set the world alight.

Agree0 Disagree0

A fair point, well made Axe man - I have no idea whether he would be good or bad- it can go either way, my point is just because we haven't heard of him before it doesn't mean he'll be bad, in the same way as someone who has been good before ( McDermott got Reading up you know- he didn't mention it much!) doesn't mean they'll do it again -
but I agree, if he was that good others would likely have been on to it by now - let's see.

I hope Leeds fans will get behind Cellino, Hockaday, and the new players who come in because we carn't afford to have another season like the last one. At least give them until Christmas without any calling for peoples heads and I think with the fans support we can get are once great club great again. As far as Ross McCormack goes he has a long contract with us and I would expect him to honour that and Cellino should reject any offer for him at least until next season even if teams offer £9mill plus we need are best players at Leeds united it would be a disaster to let him go as he would be hard to replace and it would show intent to other clubs that Leeds are in good place and the days have gone when we have to sell players to make ends meet. M.O.T get behind the boys.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Making ends meet by selling players is how Cellino ran his previous club therefore time will tell if a leopard changes his spots. However I do feel confident that the sale of McCormack will be re-invested back into the squad

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont mind us selling hims as long as he doesn't go to another Championship side. I don't want to be strengthening any other side we may be competeing with.

With regards to replacing him, any striker who is any good eye for goal will score that many goals, he just needs the service. So we need to bring in the right man for the job and ensure the team can service him. a lot of Rossco's goals were self made so this needs to be a surity.

On Hockaday, give him his chance. Every man is entiled to it and with our club it may be better to have a guy who doesn't have a reputation follwoing him, good or bad. But I do genuinly feel that MC wanted to bring in someone he could "mould" and "advise", hence the lesser experienced manager. sorry, coach.

What about that Bryan beckeles from Honduras, plays for olimpia in Honduran league. 28 year old right back who could provide cover/competition for byram. I do wonder about this hockaday thing as we all do but I've got a theory as to how and why he's getting the job. Possibly out of all the guys mc interviewed maybe he was the biggest "yes man" out of the lot, he sees this as his big shot deserved or not and would be willing to say/do anything to get it so I wonder if he's just gone in there and agreed with everything mc wants and I'm guessing the others (being respected coaches) didn't fall into line as much as him. Like I say just a theory because to be honest like most I'm struggling to see what he's going to bring to our club

A emphasis on the development of youth and good players, coaching as opposed to managing, a two to three year plan, appointing a man whose ideas on youth development were adopted by the majority of English Clubs!

Sounds like building the dream and not buying it to me. Look were we got trying to 'buy it', too long in the proverbial footballing wilderness, bled dry by people who were more than a little dodgy (allegedly).

Have a little patience Mighty Whites, you never know the coach might just be the power behind the throne, it is not always about high profile or what you see, how many of you drive your ferraris with the bonnet up eh!

All this arguement about the new coach not being famous.
Don Revie was like MC a very superstitious genius of a man.
Without doubt the best leader Leeds Utd ever had.
At that time we had a coach called Les Cocker who sadly died before his time.
Nobody ever complained about the work Les did and very few had ever heard of him.
Hockaday may not have a great track record but he has all the qualifications to do the job.
Give the bloke a chance to get on in life and prove he is big enough.
Like us all he has a family to support and wish him well.
We will succeed under MC I know we will.
Who remembers the name of the Liverpool coach under Paisley or Shanks it just doesn't matter.
We will return.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Paisley was a coach under Shankly, Fagan was a coach under Paisley. Both came through the same system to manage the club successfully. Yes they were probably nobodies at the time but they understood the club, the history, the players, the fans, the style of play and were able to continue with the success. The issue some people will have with Hockaday is that he has come from a level far below that of where Leeds United are and because of that he represents a big risk, it is therefore very important that Cellino recruits a technical director with standing in the game otherwise the weight of expectation may be too much for Hockaday
