Just read what TC said about wood. he didn't appear to wish him well, although he may have done in the video. that's really refreshing to hear a manager talk truthfully. I'm really growing to like TC.

Well what a result. i didn't think a clean sheet was possible when I saw the line up, but fair play and what people have said on here then maybe cooper has turned a corner. That's 4 points from a possible 6 against "the favourite teams", that could be a very valuable 8 points when you take into account both matches could be viewed as six pointers in may. I was never a huge fan of woods, although his 30 goals really helped us out last season, but I truly think we are better off without him. Perhaps he was a chain around the neck when it came to attacking play, as someone else said his departure will help others flourish! MOT

Might agree about the better off without him if we had another senior striker Cura, little worried after Ekuban went off, Antonsson out on loan and Douk looking likely to leave, little scary if we don't sign a couple of strikers sharpish.

Defence was excellent. Midfield was very good and we again looked very likely to score. Twas well worth staying awake staying awake for the 0230 am kickoff in Sydney . Sunday's are always better after a win . As for no Mr Wood, I agree re more space and opportunities for others but also re getting another striker or 2. Happy Days MOT

Loved the TC interview after the match, and his refusal to talk about Chris Wood before the game. And how can you fault him for saying he would die for the team! Are we sure he wasn't secretly born in Leeds ?

Delighted today! So pleased for the team. I think Woods absence created space for other players to grow. Interesting that away from home seems to suit our attacking style and we need the find a way to unlock teams at home. Love all the comments about Cooper as well. Goal line block saved a goal and good defending. We've still got players to come back in and some money to spend. Impressed with the boss as well, looks to be constantly thinking, evaluating and adapting. Well done!

See ya Woody, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Maybe CT can save a spot for you on the bench. Replacements we should look at: Callum Wilson, Charlie Austin, Gary Hooper, Tomer Hemed, James Wilson, Dominic Solanke on loan, look abroad for some more gems Rachid Alioui from Nimes for example.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

19 Aug 2017 20:57:26
How about Jordan Hugill as an option. Powerful target man. 13 goals last season, 3 already this season. Probably not too expensive and only 25

Charlie austin is interesting. hadnt thought of him. does he get much of a game at soto nowadays? Isn't he getting on and a bit injury prone too?

19 Aug 2017 23:01:46
He came off the bench to score a winning penalty today, but it doesn't look like he'll be more than a bit part player. Although he was reluctant to move north when Newcastle wanted him.

You won Sunderland it's hardly a hard game they only had 1 shot on target. Your shortcomings will be there when you play someone good so your next 3 games should be simple. Wood is definitely a level above Leeds and like idiots you all think your better without him lol very little football knowledge I must say.

Haha you lot do make me laugh, you all lose your hair from one person's opinion lol, I said you would struggle v Fulham and you did, Sunderland are a team you should be expecting to win. You have forest, Burton and Birmingham next, I'd say 7 points shouldn't be hard to get, but when you come up against Norwich or wolves or anyone with half a decent striker your come unstuck. Selling wood is a big mistake definitely if the replacement is lasogga lol. Enjoy your win you definitely won't be in the top 6 at the end of the season :) you haven't been tested yet, Bolton easy, Preston you missed chance after chance, Fulham were without there best player n one of there best defenders yet you still couldn't win and Sunderland are well known for not being able to defend. Well done haha

Agree2 Disagree1

20 Aug 2017 00:59:39
Lol. You said Fulham would batter us lol and we had no chance of getting any points lol. How am I wrong? Your 4 games in don't fool yourself silly. When the seasons finished and your in the top 6 il come back and tell you I was wrong but I'm 90% sure your finish between 10th and 7th once again because if Bolton can give you a game then I'm sorry but you have no chance v better teams. Sunderland might be one of the promotion favourites but they were awful v Leeds and that wasn't because you were much better just Sunderland were nothing in attack, I said you won't win Fulham n you didn't, Preston were never tipped for promotion so that's bull. 3 easy games coming up for you lot n your get carried away as per untill you play a good team. :) Clueless silly Leeds fans lol let's see what clown your sign as Chris woods replacement haha

20 Aug 2017 02:55:51

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 20:35:10
Just what i was thinking danumwhite. Which idiot of a manager said you need a big 6'3 lone striker when you have 5'0 Samu Saiz terrorizing the defense. We looked a lot more of a threat with the pace of Roofe, Saiz, and Alioski even Ekuban looked ok before he got injured. With Wood going it could be a blessing.

Agree4 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 21:02:17
Teams know how we play with a big lone striker like wood upfront. Today our front men gave them lots of problems with their pace and link up play. Sunderland's left back had a roasting today. Loved this exciting play.

19 Aug 2017 20:09:23
It's a new dawn and tomorrow's a new day in the life of a Leeds United supporter, for me I won't be mentioning Wood's name again, he's no brother of mine anymore! For me it's best to look forward to a couple of new additions bought with the money from The Dingles (that's what they call Burnley over here) ! I'm so happy we have TC and not Monk (another bad day for them) Radz is a top man and our team looks solid. 3 clean sheets on the bounce, top five place and maybe CW going is a step forward who knows! 19 Aug 2017 19:52:56
How about using a proven formula from Arsene Wenger - the Bergkamp and Henry formula? Wenger switched Henry from winger to the best striker in the world, and that coupled with the more experienced slower moving but perfectly skilfull passing tactician Bergkamp made it an unbeatable combo. We can do the same with Roofe and Hernandez. Probably not at the same standard, but we are not trying to win the premiership, we are trying to gain promotion . Thoughts?

And there were a lot of positives today from everyone else too, but yes Saiz and Alioski look great finds. The one thing tho, can someone tell Alioski, who I rate highly, not to react like that to a foul again, whilst he's wearing our shirt.

19 Aug 2017 19:12:33
I know we don't have money troubles and AR isn't skint, but with the busy transfer season and the increased roster (albeit a much needed one) I was starting to wonder if we could have been wandering close to the FFP line. Β£15 m, or whatever we may have left after reinvestment, will at least be sure to keep the EFL at bay.

Firstly to follow Curahee, total respect to Chippenhamwhites for putting his life on the line in the British Army, that is far more important than football! Secondly Wex stop getting at Curahee because he is actually right, Wood refused to play and show us fans respect so I do look forward to waving at him as we go up and they come down! And lastly Wood says he wants a dream move to the Prem, am I wrong or did we buy him from a Premiership team being Leicester! So he has actually had a chance once but wouldn't fight for it hence coming to us! Anyway the lads are showing tonight that we will be okay without him, Wood won't have any regrets because he left for money not trophies! In Radz we trust. MOT

at only 26 years old and 30 goals last season i think Burnley have a real bargain if it's Β£15m. Why are we selling when we could get that all day long next season? I'm sure if we told him he's staying put he would honor his contract and bang in at least 20 goals this season. Now we are left looking for his replacement and no guarantees the new player (if we get one at all) will hit the ground running which i think could cost us in the next few weeks and months. It always seems to be 1 step forwards and 2 steps back at Leeds.

Wood money . lassogo kent and Barts (who was taken off after 67mins today) Plus another goalscorer (with pace ) Could be enough to get us up me thinks ! Even if it is not these actual players, four players of that standard added to the squad and we will have a very strong side

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 Aug 2017 16:00:31
Well now it's been confirmed, Wood leaving for the bright lights of Burnley, medical at The Etihad as we are playing Sunderland! I hope the club will do the right thing by sorting out refunds or shirt name re-prints for all of our very loyal supporters who have used their hard earned cash to buy the new shirts with Wood put on the back! I am so peed off, why wait until three games in, why on earth can we not put our foot down and say NO, you signed a contract and you will honour it! I know how it works, its best to cash in as his head has been turned blah blah blah! Well I'm with Curahee, put him in the reserves until he comes out and apologises to all the supporters who work bloody hard to afford the expensive days out following our team because we are LOYAL! Is my post sour grapes? Yes it is! Petty? Probably! Does it make me angry? Yes it does because of the way these bloody footballers walk in to our club and say this is a dream to play for such a big club and I promise I'm giving it my all, then half way through his contract, see you later I'm off to Las Burnley! Well I for one hope and pray that in May 2018 we are all waving at Wood and Taylor as we go up and they go down! Will it still be your dream then Mr Wood? It will be JUSTICE! Sorry people if you don't agree, I'm not looking for an argument, I'm just fed up of these selfish, self absorbed players! MOT

Can we be clear Wood never put in transfer request. Never refused to play. Never sulked and sat on the bench. Never held the club over a barrel. Did his job didn't complain. Leeds United had an offer and accepted an offer and decided to sell Wood. Wood honoured his contract with Leeds.

Well it is what it is. Β£15m if invested well could be the difference this season. I'm sure it will be invested wisely Rads doesn't seem to be a fool with his cash, so it's probably going to be a good think in the long run. I agree with many others, I don't see him as getting another 30 goals this season, and I'd be surprised to see him get double figures at Burnley. On wards and upwards. i reckon his replacements are already in line and will sign by Wednesday ish. Just need to focus on a cb now too.

I might be going out on a bit of a limb here Mike, but something gives me the impression that you're just a tiny wincy annoyed. Spot on Curahee, it was Wood who refused to play as TC wanted him on the pitch! Leeds United and TC before the game refused to comment, yet Chris Wood has, in my opinion that says it all! I am annoyed with both the club and Wood, mainly because of the timing and the lack of respect for his team mates and most Importantly the fans, we Leeds fans regardless of anything should be shown respect as we are the ones that sing his name every week! Putting two and two together and probably ending up with baldricks maths, but are there obvious signs of the replacements lined up already? Aparently the Hamburg bloke has already met the team and I read somewhere it's been pointed out that shirt number 43 and 45 have been taken, but not 44.
I don't do conspiracies but could it all be in the bag already and we were just waiting for cash in the account before the wheels are put in motion? have we known for months? it would strike me as odd if Rads and TC didn't have a plan in place already to go, based on their work so far.

From all accounts Wood is leaving in the next 48 hours. I hope TC has been working on what needs to be done to take the club forward after his departure as he must have known for a while it was going to happen. This will give him the chance to show what he can do. I hope he is in the David Wagner mould and knows how to put a team together and get the best out of them. If he goes for a quick fit of Ross McCormack and/ or Snodgrass I would be disappointed and I would think he is not up to the job - a bit of a loser. The pair of them have struggled lately and they would, in my opinion, be disruptive influences.

The more i think about it the more Curahee makes sense with regard to players contracts! Why sign a contract if you are not going to honour it, for instance we took a risk as we do with all players when we sign them and with success they get rewarded but how does the club get rewarded by the player when he wants to leave! Curahee makes a valid point in why do we bother giving them a contract when it's not going to be honoured, ok we make a great profit but Β£12M to Β£15M is peanuts compared to what we would make by securing promotion with the players goals contributing to our success. Where was Burnleys offer for Wood when he was sat on the bench at Leicester? Nowhere to be seen and where would Chris Wood be now if we hadn't signed him? Wood said in interview on signing for Leeds "when Leeds came in for me it was an easy decision, there is no way you turn a massive club like Leeds down, together we can achieve The Premier League! Where was he heard saying, once I've got up to a good standard and scored 30 goals in one season I'm off to an even bigger club in Burnley! So you can see why some fans say put him in the reserves. It's really hard for supporters to accept because unlike players we as fans don't sign a contract and then half way through the season we say that's it your not good enough I'm off to support Burnley! We stay no matter what we will always be back the weekend after, and we are not on Β£stupid money per week! Well we are on stupid money but the low kind of stupid money! There is far to much player power now and maybe it's time somebody came up with an idea to stop it, maybe if a player wants to leave, then they and their new club should give their wages earnt, back as well as a fee! Daft idea I know but I'm with Curahee on this, it's not right! MOT

Thanks mike. To put it on everyday terms, You sign a contract for a mobile phone for a certain length and price, a rival firm offers you a better deal whilst still in contract. you can like it, but you wouldn't be able to get out of the original contract until it's up, unless the firm agrees to let you go. It's the gamble you take when you take a contract out. Around the corner there's always a better offer, but you sign for a duration

Agree1 Disagree2

19 Aug 2017 11:09:21
I don't think you'd ever be able to keep a player that wants to leave, I remember holloways comments on Rooney when he left Everton, he was bang on but there's nothing you can do. As regards to why sign a contract, it's good for the club because it demands more in the transfer market if someone wants a player who's on a 3 year contract as opposed to if they only had 12 months left.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 11:16:30
Your right contracts mean very little these days they just guarantee the club a transfer fee for the player. Cura i think if your new phone company told your old phone company they would pay 15 mill to let you go they would.

19 Aug 2017 11:35:15
Wood seems to want to go if you believe the media, Woody has had his head turned. Because of this we won't get best out of him now. Best sell him and it's hoping the club have had fair warning this might happen and have potential decent better replacements on their radar. 12 - 15 million isn't a bad bit of business.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 11:49:07
He will go of course. But you make a good point. We would have to pay out his contract if we weren't happy with him, so there should be a penalty clause when a player wants to leave halfway through. It's all loaded in favour of the player

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is in essence what a transfer fee is mate. A player could also choose to buyout his contract, under the right circumstances.}

19 Aug 2017 11:56:33
Curahee makes some solid points and like you mate it winds me up and I think It does this because if he was leaving to go to one of the top eight teams in The Premiership then you can except it as it's going to take a few years for us to get to that stage, but to say it's a dream move to go to Burnley then that for me leaves a bad taste and how ironic it would be if we swapped places with them or indeed we didn't and they got relegated anyway! Would it still be a dream move for him? I think not! Charlie Taylor and Chris Wood might see things differently then eh and maybe you can't blame them if they want more money but it still doesn't make it right!

Agree0 Disagree2

19 Aug 2017 12:02:48
I get he doesn't want to play

Agree0 Disagree3

19 Aug 2017 12:10:10
IB I know he has, but I'm not really talking solely about wood, it's all players who do this. That's how they have clubs over a barrel. If the club doesn't sell they have a player who doesn't perform like they did and may cause issues, meaning the club Loose money in the future, if they do sell even if they don't want to (like we have to) they loose a key player. Players know this and do what the hell they like
Therefore there really instant much of a point of contracts, surely the fairest way to do it is yearly contracts and either tribunal all transfers (wholey impractical) or do something similar to us sports with drafting, trading etc.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Aug 2017 12:31:11
Obviously right Cura and i think if a player puts in transfer request he should pay up his existing contract. Trouble is very few do so i think the buying club should be fined as it is just tapping players up. If a player is not out of contract and not up for sale they should not approach him. Ask his club and if they say no that should be it, but it never is.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 12:53:41

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 13:30:52
A footballers contract of employment is different to most contracts of employment, for instance, if I was to be offered a job with more money, better conditions etc I only have to put in my notice whereas in football the player has to have his contract bought out.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 13:33:42
Then please wex in the context of this thread please explain to us how a contract protects the club?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 13:42:02
I know al I got that, but our point is not that they are different contracts, it's that players have clubs right where they want them. so therefore they're not really worth having. A player therefore cannot argue if during his contract the club does not wish to sell them. I think bige has it right with his suggestion.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 13:43:03
Wex think we all understand what a contract is the club has the right not to sell then keep a player for two years who is not going to be arsed not renew his contract then go for free. Clubs know a player is simply an asset these days. Best to get the most they can for them. If a player gets a better offer elsewhere he will eventually go. They could simply put in a transfer request at which point his club claim compensation for his existing contract, but very few of them put that request in because they have the leverage to force a move.

Hope we don't buy for the sake of it would rather get the right guy. Must say i did like the way Ekuban, Saiz and Alioski played together against Port Vale. Not a great Wood fan but heres my take on his performances. He gets back to help out defence, he takes up good position in attack but seems to miss all the other bits, build up play, pulling defenders out of position, making space for others. Think the one on ones showed his ability, a good striker scores one of them, a top striker scores them both, but saying that you know he will score goals in this league and be well into 15 a season. i just think that he could be more mobile. And the only thing that gets on his head is his hat.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 12:37:15
So what we're saying is, based on this season he's contributed no more than anyone else so far, and for a good part of his transfer fee could be easily replaced for a more rounded player, which may suit us better this season with the creativity and goals from players behind him?

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Aug 2017 12:41:57
We seem to be going for a more attacking flair type of game now, reminds me of the great arsenal side of the early noughties. they didn't have a 30 goal a season target man, they had a few quick very creative, well rounded players. perhaps this is the type of player TC will be looking for. The big number 9 worked for monk and his formation and tactical genius, but maybe now we will see the pack shuffled more as we won't need to accommodate woods general one dimensional style.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2017 08:54:45
Once a player is tempted by the promised land there is little anyone can do to reverse the process. So we thank woody for his services (not to mention huge profit) and move on. My recommendation would be Glen Murray at Brighton a man in the know at Brighton (He's a cousin of Jeff so it's solid) said Murray realises he will get hardly any games this year and is desperately looking for a move. He's not the glamorous choice but guaranteed to bring goals, support play and a fair bit of aggression with him.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

19 Aug 2017 09:45:36
Agree. Makes me laugh that lots of supporters are crying because we are selling a 30 goal a season striker. That was LAST season and one season, where he was our only scoring option basically and everything was aimed for him. I personally doubt if he will ever repeat that level of goals. But I guarantee he won't score 30 for Burnley. Much more important now is how the money is spent.

I think it actually might be healthier for the team. When he plays, we focus very much on him and service to him and perhaps it stops others taking the responsibility and trying different things. We have other players this year who can score, one already with a hat trick to his name. We also now have the opportunity to buy and I am sure that we will already have some names in mind. Let's except wood has probably played his final game for Leeds. In today's football it's a way of life that players move on once they get the chance at the first opportunity of joining a premier league team with the chance of life in that league and a bigger pay packet. We can look at the fact that we may have made a good profit on Chris wood. Now we are in the position of having to find his replacement, trouble is selling clubs know we got a few quid to spend so will inflate their prices. what now is our choice, to seek a cheap unknown from abroad, or a inflated prices British based player? Alternatively we are linked to ex players who we feel have left after showing no loyalty last time around. I think we all need a reality check as this is what the state is of modern day football and we have to go with it. Trust in our board, our manager and support which ever played on the field that wears our shirt. MOT
