Who did well and who didn't in the farsley game?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Andy grey of all people lol

Mick Jones knows football, and he say's he is the third fittest player at this stage and that he is a very good player. fact, on OS so maybe could be a suprise package!

Well he is not going to slag grey off is he!

White staying is it good or bad ?

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Good! How could it be bad? And fair play to him for staying after all the negativity toward him.
RabX

Agree5 Disagree1

Well people have their opinions on his ability. But I would say it is good he has resigned with us. It shows that we are finally able to keep our players when other clubs are interested. Hopefully snoddy will follow suit.

StevenLufc

Agree3 Disagree1

White staying, excellent news. Snod staying would also be superb. Knocking Norwich out of cup would be absolutely hilarious. Wipe that stupid smile of the cooks face.
JB

Agree3 Disagree2

Actually I think there was only Derby in for him, but still great news that he is staying, hopefully he will improve this season with more experienced players around him!

Agree1 Disagree2

Good news he will learn a lot from such as drury and warnock next season will be a better player

Agree1 Disagree1

Shows his commitment but i dont rate him that highly to be honest, no end product

Agree1 Disagree1

Aidie has got natural pace to burn passing and shooting can be coached
theo wallcot was all pace and no end product at southhampton look at him now
aidie is only 20 give him a chance

NW has stated that they are rejecting the new bid for Robert Snodgrass. He fully intends to keep him at the club.
Aidy White has signed a new improved contract offerd by the new owners and we shall see Robert follow the same way soon.

What is nw doing we need a good sub goalkeeper ie lonergan not rachubka or cairnes etc

Mot

Believable3 Unbelievable4

Yes but aparantly nw is going to buy a sub kepper so maybe tommy lee

Agree0 Disagree0

He can move lonergen on for a couple of hundred thousands and probably bring in a capable back up keeper on a free or a smaller fee with lower wages! Trust NW he knows what he is doin!

Agree1 Disagree1

Perhaps he didn't want to compete with kenny and couldn't be promised first team place?

Does anybody know whether the pre season friendlies were live on the radio last season ? I was shocked to be able to listen to it live today lol was it just me ? dp

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Most pre season games are live either audio or live feed on LUTV if you subscribe, last season it cost £5 to watch two of the matches on Lutv total £10 but they were both being played abroad but generally they do have live commentary.

Warnock interviewed before the game stated that the next ten days should be very exciting for Leeds United and that he would like as many as eight more players signed within that time frame, maybe just maybe the take over is really imminent. The source of the interview was LUTV live audio broadcast from Farsley, here's hoping.

i have to say, with warnock in charge and all these signings coming in, i'm impressed with how much has changed since the last transfer window with SG in charge - dont get me wrong he was a great manager but warnock is somehow able to bring in all of these new faces PERMANENTLY and i have to say i'm looking forward to see some more and see how we play in the forthcoming season.

Aidy White signs new contract!

Youngster Aidy White has agreed a new three-year contract to stay on at Leeds United.
The former Academy youngster was out of contract at the end of last season and has been heavily linked with a move away from the club.
But the speculation about his future will be formally put to bed on Saturday when he signs a new three-year deal with the club after pledging his future to United.
Manager Neil Warnock was delighted when he confirmed the player's intentions before Friday's pre-season game at Farsley.
"Aidy is a young player who we have high hopes for and we're delighted he's agreed to a new deal," said the boss.
"He's good going forward and he's good defensively, and he's a big part of our plans here."

Believable2 Unbelievable1

The headline tomorrow will be White signs a new contract, the headline today is White agrees a new contract.

Aidy White just signed a 3 year deal. Don't know what to make of it. At first there was talk of Celtic and some other clubs but in the end he ended up with Derby only showing real interest. I don't think that the club upped the contract offer so it looks that the club won this one. Anyway good prospectand he must have seen something good to convince him.

Well obviously the predicted announcement didn't happen then?

We need to show SNODDY that we want him to be a partof our team rather than assume he's the proverbial ar*ehole for wanting to go?

I have personally given up on waiting for any potential takeover to happen, but at the same time hoping it will happen.

I think we are now looking at a two year plan to get into the premier league, but would serioulsy love to see it happen sooner

Ive been a daily visitor to this site for about a year, and probably been refreshing every half hour since the investment story broke. Despite been linked to every player with 2 legs for the last 2 months what has really surprised me is the fact that absolutely nobody barr those directly involved, not even the press has a clue what is happening. In this era of media oppression, phone hacking & social media addiction you would think that a leak would have occured by now which leads to 2 conclusions:
1) Ken is on the verge of making an absolute fortune which is the only thing that would keep his toxic trap shut
2) There is no takeover (TOMA) and ive just wasted my life for 2 months!
Whatever the outcome NW has replaced those who have left with better so far

Why dont Norwich just go away, the sad thing is our players wanna go there! More fool them, Howson, Johnson and maybe Snoddy took us to top 10 of championship. And thats where they will be in two years. So if anymore greedy leeds player wanna go to Norwich and mess up your career then go ahead. Howson was the worst one tho, captain of his boyhood club at 22 and wants to go....what more does he want?
Was 8k a week not good enough? I get 15k a year and do just fine. And if Snoddy does stay maybe he should only get a wage increase if he learns to run, infact he should teach Aidy how to cross and vice versa. MOT with players with passion. Vinny.

Been following website for a while, but first post (be gentle). Portsmouth FC statement regarding redundancies etc on official website ... Especially urgent need to sell certain players .... Varney & Norris could be coming for even cheaper than initially thought? It seems to mention need to slash wages rather than getting all they can from sales ... These players not on top of my list however, looking at our current team sheet, we don't just need a first 11 but quite a few additions for a full SQUAD!

I do a lot of traveling up & down the country with work and sometimes get talking talking football with cab drivers. Obviously it's just gossip and no one knows for sure if there is any truth anything that's been said. But the rumours going around Leicester at the moment is that Leicester are cut their losses and off load Beckford & Peltier to Leeds as part of the same deal.

Some other big names are set to leave Leicester too in an effort to cut the wage bill.

Just wondered if you could shed some light on this ED? {Ed003's Note - I can't mate,sorry}

Why oh why are you lot constantly talking about such poor players
Beckford. What has he ever done to prove he is worth a spot in any team wanting to win.
None of the players mentioned can get promotion
We need a quick through the middle player and two strikers
Maybe bechio to help feed the main striker
Honestly
What a load of dribble
We need promotion
Not to just win more than we lose
Good players, hungry players
None ever mentioned are good enough
How many goals dis king neckties score in the last two years??
Rubbish
Ausman

Believable0 Unbelievable6

Brilliant rant.
Do you feel better now?
You sound like you know a lot about football, maybe a coach or an ex manager.
I don t suppose you ve got any ideas about realistic targets that we should be trying to sign, or is this asking too much? Or is it easier to rubbish all our other signings or speculations? Maybe Van Persis is on your list?
My personal opinion is that NW is building a promising squad. I d be surprised if we didn t get 3 or 4 more good players before the start of the season. Some of the players we ve been linked with I d be happy to havevas squad players ( Varney) others sound excellent prospects ( dj Campbell, Austin, Templeton...) and yes, I'm one of the ones who would welcome Beckford back with open arms,, come back home son.... All is forgiven.
If we get one or two of these, I d be well pleased.
Feeling positive..... Legs get this takeover news...champagne s on ice.

Team could look like this at the beginning of the season:

Gk-Kenny
Rb-Peltier
Cb-Lees
Cb-Pearce
Lb-drury
Cdm-Austin
Lm-Varney
Rm-Rogers
Cam-Green
St-becchio
St-Paynter

For me that team is nowhere near where it needs to be.
Need another centre half. A decent natural right mid. A pacier striker to go with becchio. And a couple of intelligent attacking options

Anyone got any realistic options for those positions?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

Kightly at wolves would be worth a punt on the wing as he is in last yr of contract! zak whitbred on bosman would be good for cb, remember him at elland road from milwall days. dj campbell or beckford for pacey forward. I'd have loans and maybe look in scotland for the attacking options.

all this talk about keeping
snodgrass and White is irritating, if they are holding out for better contracts or a move let them go, its all player power nowadays. I defo think should let them move on and move for players who want to play for the club. Will see what happens with the takeover but if we have money coming in then contracts shouldnt be an issue.

HEard about russel from scotsland being a good younng player, apparently very quick. But get beckford back, bangs em in for leeds and other clubs stupid not to test the water with money made from t/o or sales of snoddy and ross mckormack.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Here here my lad a great post
What happens if snodgrass refuses new deal and we refuse to sell
Does he deserve the armband of our great club
Does he f##k

IS IT ME OR IS ANYONE ELSE A BIT CONCERNED IN THE LACK OF INTEREST IN THE PLAYERS WE DO ACTUALLY WANT TO SELL. ( O'BRIEN,CONNOLLY,NUNEZ,PAYNTER TO NAME A FEW) I WONDER IF THATS THE REASON PLAYERS IN HAS SLOWED SOME WHAT. JUST AN OBSERVATION THATS ALL. {Ed045's Note - I'm sure that we do have interest, it's just not documented. It's gotta suit the club aswell as the player before we can sell, hence the reason why people tend to enquire first.

Roque Santa Cruz admits his time at Manchester City is over - but says he wants to stay in the north-west of England. The 30-year-old is currently training with the reserves at Carrington, alongside fellow unwanted striker Emmanuel Adebayor, after being left out of City's pre-season tour of Austria.

"My conditioning is good, I feel fit and just want to play now," he says in the Manchester Evening News. "A north west club would be ideal. I don't want to keep moving my kids back and forth, it is not good to move them year after year."

Bored to tears of hearing about Snodgrass. I'm far more interested in us signing Rodolph Austin!

Believe me, at the end of his career, just like Bradley Johnson & Jonny Howson before him, he will think, "Did I REALLY leave Leeds United to go to Norwich?"

Out with the old, in with the new!!

Believable16 Unbelievable2

Maybe Snoddy just wants to play safe. Unlike you, he has his CAREER in football to think about. There may be no 'jam tomorrow' if he stays.

He might think 'did I leave a club that showed absolutely no ambition in all the time I've been there to go to a really well run and well managed club in the Premiership?'

This 'we're a massive club' thing as an excuse for slating players who want to better themselves and progress their career is really tedious. RIGHT NOW we're a lower-mid-table second division club with a half empty ground and no atmosphere - and I know what ER can be like - I've been going for 42 years. The sooner some fans grow up a little and wake up to that the better (I know - I can't be a 'real' fan - yawn).

Personally, I'm pinning my hopes on the takeover, and I guess that's true for most of us, but if that doesn't happen, and it is possible that it may not, we'll still be what we are today under Bates.

Fingers crossed...

Agree2 Disagree9

With respect regarding the first reply - absolute garbage!

Leeds United is, and always will be, a massive club.

If you've been going for 42 years you will no doubt remember the 1980's. For the majority of that decade we were a mid-table second division club with an even emptier ground than it was last season - but we were still a massive club, with the potential to become huge once again. This potential was duly fulfilled with the arrival of Howard Wilkinson.

As was clearly proved then, a club the size of Leeds United just needs that "spark" to ignite the magic once again. I've heard Wilkinson say since that once Leeds Utd has some momentum, it takes some stopping.

This can be true once again this season. I see many potential similarities between the relative approaches of Wilko and Warnock. I am encouraged by his signings so far this summer, and the (hopefully!) impending capture of Austin could be an absolute masterstroke. We haven't had a single midfielder who can genuinely boss a game since the days of Batty and Dacourt.

Personally, while obviously I would prefer the takeover to happen and soon, it doesn't have to be the end of the world if it doesn't. In my view we should sell Snodgrass and anyone else who doesn't wish to stay. With that money I firmly believe Warnock could still do the business this season, with or without new owners.

As for Norwich, I believe they may have a real struggle on their hands to stay up this season. Mr Snodgrass may end up with egg on his face come next May. In any case, he will have to improve to become a genuine Premiership footballer. For every good game he had for Leeds, and I know he played very well at times, I can think of an equal number when he was wasteful, seemed disinterested and didn't even look fit.

I don't see any requirement for the basic tone of your post. There is simply no need to suggest that people need to "grow up a little" or to use the silly "yawn" expression just because someone else sees things slightly differently to yourself.

Don't forget it is Ken Bates who has showed the lack of ambition. Leeds United will always be a proud and famous club, long after Bates, Snodgrass and co have finally departed.

Agree10 Disagree1

Well said sir. Its a harsh realisation but one we all need to make.

Agree1 Disagree8

And with respect to the long reply to mine - football is a very different business now to in the 1980s. It was still possible when Wilko took over to get a team up with relatively little investment. That is much harder to achieve in the current climate and the huge Sky deal with increased parachute payments just means that this is likely to continue to be the case for the foreseeable future.

Leeds United has a large fan base, true, but much of it is, frankly, a 'fair weather' fan base. Last season I went to games with crowds typically around 21,000 and it was pretty grim to say the least. Crowds were higher in League One. The trend is very much a downward one right now and that has to be down to the current regime and its investment/ticket price policies.

I maintain the 'grow up' remark is valid. Some of the 'we're a massive club and Snoddy/Clayton/Howson/Gradel etc can just f*ck off if they don't want to play for the badge' stuff is naive to say the least. Professional footballers are not playing for the badge, they are playing for themselves and their families. Failing to see that suggests a lack of maturity.

As for the "yawn" - isn't it a bit tedious seeing so many of these misguided posts? Bores me..And anyway, this is a banter site - and I'd have thought my remarks counted as banter.

And as for Snoddy - I agree - I'm not convinced he's good enough for the Premiership and yes, Norwich may well fade, but that's conjecture. Right now, they're a premiership team and we're not. Like I said - he may be playing safe as he sees it. He may also be getting a whacking great pay rise and who would want one of those?

Agree1 Disagree9

We are a massive club and the fact that we were getting 21000 fans at times last season was in my humble opinion down to protestation at bates prices whilst spending nothing on the team
Also your statement defies all logic of you say we're not a big club cos we only got crowds of 21000 and we had bigger in league 1
So if we're getting in excess of 21000 in the 3rd division what type of club are we then
You probably need to read your posts in future to make sure what your saying is correct instead of dropping in the 42 years line and expecting some sort of hierarchy with your opinions
I'm 29 so never saw the great revue team but I been to elland road when we sold out I been to old Trafford when they sold out I no the history of this great club and it's that that makes us a big club
Ask anyone else in football

I am well aware that things have changed in the last 20 years. But the basic comparison I make between the start of the Wilko era and now is valid. Then - as now - Leeds United were a mediocre 2nd tier outfit. With some good signings, and a no-nonsense manager who's been there and done it before, history can repeat itself. It doesn't have to cost millions - and spending silly money brings no guarantees. Look at Leicester last season.

I agree with you on the topic of fans up to a point. We do have many "fair weather" supporters. But I don't think low attendances are down to cost at all. You just watch attendances soar if we start the season well. By the way, did you ever hear anyone moan about the cost of following Leeds around Europe in the Champions League? I agree the pricing could be more reasonable, but I've felt for a long time that it is a convenient excuse for many supporters. {Ed003's Note - In the current financial climate not being able to afford something is not an excuse it is a fact.}

Agree6 Disagree0

Russjon - well said mate, very good points made there.

Ed003 - I have every sympathy for people who are struggling in the current financial climate. But it is also a fact that if we make a storming start to the season, an extra 10000 - 12000 fans will suddenly appear at Elland Road. I have many friends who have hardly been to a game since our relegation from the Premiership. They say they don't go now because of cost, but they could very easily afford it. There are many fans like that - the first whiff of good times returning to Elland Road and so will they, regardless of cost. {Ed003's Note - How can you possibly know what many fans reasons are for not going to games are? never mind what their financial situation is like,of course fans will return to watch a successful side,but that is there choice not something for you to bitch about}

Agree6 Disagree0

A lot of shifting from the point here though isn't there? The issue was whether Snoddy would regret signing for Norwich when he'd be better off staying at Leeds. A lot of those comments centre around Leeds being a 'bigger club', whatever that means.

The point I'm trying to make is that the 'bigger club' thing is irrelevant from the point of view of a career footballer. All professionals, in whatever sphere, want to test their limits and get as high up the ladder as they can. In Snoddy's shoes I wouldn't sign a new contract at Leeds. Why? Because the club's current board has shown no ambition whatsoever and there is no certainty of promotion. It may be that the takeover happens, but that's a big if and, as you rightly point out with Leicester, a cash injection doesn't guarantee success.

Norwich are in the Premiership where every pro footballer wants to be so it would be understandable if he went. And, rather than slating him for leaving, we should be grown up about it, thank him for what he's done for us and wish him well.

If Snoddy wants to play in the Premiership, can he afford to take the risk of staying at Leeds? That might not sound like the words of a loyal fan but that's my whole point. He's not a fan, he's doing a job. You and I might think we'd take less money and play in a lower league to play for our beloved Leeds, but we don't have to make that decision. I suspect, were either of us good enough to have been professional footballers, then we'd have developed a different mindset after a few years actually playing the game for a living. We'd probably also have wives and kids to think about, and their needs would come first.

Fans, in their passion for the club, sometimes lose sight of the fact that the men out their on the pitch, our heroes (and zeroes), don't have the same passion for Leeds. They're just earning a crust.

Agree1 Disagree5

It's not shifting from the point, it's just developing a discussion.

You really don't seem to understand where I'm coming from at all. I really don't care if Snodgrass does go; if you go back to my original post you will see that all I am saying is that I believe he and his mates will look back and regret it.

I believe we are on the verge of exciting times at last at Elland Road. We have the best manager in the business at winning promotions. If Snodgrass doesn't want to be a part of that, it's his loss. That's all I'm saying. I'm well aware he can go now for extra security for his family etc etc etc. There's really no need for all the preaching, I'm a hard-working adult with responsibilities of my own.

Ed003 - Whether you view my comments as "bitchy" or not, we do definitely have a fair-weather element to our support as the other guy in this discussion first alluded to. I'm merely pointing out that some of us have stuck by the club better than others. I think for those of us who were there when we kicked off the 2007/08 season 15 points adrift at the bottom of League One, our return to the Premiership, IF indeed it happens, will taste that much sweeter. That isn't intended to offend anyone, I just feel it's the truth.

Agree4 Disagree0

And I don't think you've got my point either. I hope you're right and that we are on the verge of exciting times, and my gut tells me you are, but in his shoes is that a risk worth taking? He might see Norwich as his 'bird in the hand' so to speak. I think he'll be here until January in any case.

Like you, I don't really care either way - no one is indispensable. Personally I think Snoddy plays with his head down and gives the ball away too much to be a top level footballer, but then I never though Bradders would make it in the premiership either, so what do I know?

What I find odd is how, the second a player is rumoured to be leaving, they come in for a barrage of insults on this site, Clayton being a good example. I'll put money on it that a lot of the people saying 'good riddance, not good enough' were saying very different things about him last December when he was playing well alongside Howson. I understand why Warnock wants a different style of player, but there is no need for some fans' abuse once he's left, especially the inaccurate 'he's greedy' stuff. Same with Snoddy - a lot of people abusing him on here are probably the same people saying he was God last year.

Agree0 Disagree3

Regarding Clayton, he didn't actually impress me from start to finish of his time at Leeds. He got his chance at the start of last season due to Bates complete lack of interest and investment in the team. At the start of the campaign he had a couple of good games and people went well over the top about him. This is not bulls**t, anyone who knows me could confirm this. I was pleased he went on the transfer list and even more impressed when Grayson did us the favour of taking him off us!

We've been lacking strength in midfield for far too long and hopefully Warnock is the man to remedy this. I believe he is. I don't care how greedy or otherwise Clayton was, he wasn't good enough anyway which were always my feelings.

Morning all. I have never posted anything purporting to know when the takeover will happen, or who it will be, but I would like to draw attention to the article on YEP this morning about this evenings game against Farsley - which is an interview with Neil Parsley. In it he says: "There's also a lot happening down at Elland Road at the moment and hopefully there's some news on that before the fixture comes which would really nail the event for us.

"I expect something to happen before the game from what I've heard."

Obviously only hearsay, but it makes me wonder who he's been speaking to to come to that conclusion. He seems to have a fairly good relationship with NW as well.

It would be absolutely fantastic news if something is announced today!

Matt MOT downunder

Believable5 Unbelievable0

That information has come from the Farsley manager, so not an inside Leeds man. But it is an interesting thing to say, plus the Official Site has been pumping out news since 6am this morning, that's strange in itself. But we have all be burned by the it's today brigade...but it has to happen one day doesn't it? (Ed that's how desperate I've become I've noted what time staff at Elland Rd have come on)

Agree3 Disagree0

Or has Parsley been reading the rumours and banter on here and like the rest of us is sick of waiting for something to happen
