I think it is time for Cellino to show how serious he is about us getting to the premier league, how can we possibly hope to compete when teams like Middlesborough are trying to sign McCormack 8m and Phillips 6m. We have no chance what so ever off having a chance of getting to the promised land if we continue to sell our best assets and not properly reinvesting the money got from transfers. The thing that winds me up the most is every summer and transfer window in January we are promised more signing's and yet we get nobodies who can only thank there lucky stars for being given the opportunity of playing for our great club. Cellino cut the bs @ put your hand in your pocket or bog off.

possible controversial question. If Mowatt, Cook, Byram are so good why does our mid field get overrun for large parts of just about every game. Is it they are not strong enough yet, their passing is too inconsistent, their basic ball skills are not good enough or their decision making is suspect. Or is it that they're put under too much pressure because the front line can't retain the ball. OR all of the above.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

21 Jan 2016 18:50:20
Overrun due to lack of genuine number 4 but problem solved by arrival of Birdcage. They are still kids and the midfield is basically brand new this season. Dallas, Birdie, Carayol. Takes time to gel. Plus they are not as overrun as you think. Real problem is in the defensive spine (there really isn't one) and a natural out and out goalscorer (there isn't one) . Purchasing Hoban and Murray would make us quite good at this level. I've even read Vidic is available on a free. Wages of course a problem but it really is decision time for Cellino. Gamble by acquiring better players on higher wages or try fool everyone by making little more than a token effort. The next 10 days will reveal which one it is. I fear unless he brings in quality in this and the summer window others will follow Byram out of ER and into the PL. Time to gamble MC. This league ain't as hard as you think if you recruit 3 or 4 premiership quality players to add to what we have.

Just a lack of experience and no old wise head to guide them, they will learn with every game that passes. God I sound like yoda do I mmmmmm.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 18:58:56
Maybe it is because the players they are playing against are better than them. Due to the fact the people who run the clubs who are beating us are paying bigger transfer fees and bigger wages to get better players.
I know it sounds obvious but we are where we are because the standard of player we have are not as good as probably more than half of the other clubs in the championship.
I keep saying it you have to speculate to accumulate, and if Cellino, GFH or whoever holds the purse strings won't spend proper money then all we will ever do is hope that the youngsters coming through will be good enough (and stay with us long enough) to get us back where we belong.

21 Jan 2016 20:03:54
I' Posted on here last week, I don't think Mowett is mobile enough for any place across the midfield. If that's the case, why keep him. I know I'm going to get slaughtered for that statement because he young and from the academy etc etc.
But the bottom line should be, if he's not up to it, he's not up to it.

Agree2 Disagree2

21 Jan 2016 21:07:11
Playing just 1 up front means that we cannot defend from the front and sides like Derby for example just pass their way up to our midfield and then we do not know what to do. We have not defended from the front for ages Beechio was ok and McBadgekisser had his moments.
Decent forwards who occupy the opposition back line then give the midfield time to organise. I would not heap all the blame on the young midfield.

21 Jan 2016 22:55:44
Hess mate, its because of a lack of experience in the midfield area.
Good players but sometimes making the wrong decisions. that's basically it imo. Lewis Cook should become an England international as he has the lot, apart from goalscoring, which i'm sure will come. Mowatt I believe would be a better player in premiership as he would get more time on the ball, less frantic.
As for some folk saying cash in on these guys. No effing way.
It sends out the wrong signals and they are almost impossible to replace as more experienced players, who are any good, will not come because of the wages. But, there must be a Strachan somewhere!

21 Jan 2016 23:22:32
Vidic? OK yeah. Maybe we should try and get Pique and Thiago Silva as well. Just in case we get an injury or two!

Cork, its 2016 not 2010. Vidic no longer at Pride of Devon putting in world class performances in the PL. He's 34 with just a few seasons left. Villa are interested in him. Since they'll be playing us next season I see no reason why we can't bid either. Yes he'll command 25k a week but he could be worth the elimination of 40 championship goals per season. Call me a gambler but I think that stat is worth taking a risk.

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Jan 2016 00:12:08
Cork

Wake up. There is a Strachan somewhere. 2 actually. He's called Lampard and Gerrard. MLS means these guys who could do wonders for a championship side on 25k a week say thanks but no thanks when they can make 75k a week playing in America. The days of finding your Strachan ended about half a decade ago. There are some defensive players available though like Vidic. American soccer for right now tends only pay for the exciting end of the pitch when it comes to ex-PL superstars. This is why grabbing Vidic smart if the opportunity there.

22 Jan 2016 10:50:47
All of the above Hessian, plus a general lack of confidence brought about by the level of expectation placed upon them and not wanting to fail. They don't look as though they are enjoying themselves either, which is always a tell-tale sign.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jan 2016 11:24:05
George I guess you are right.
With all the money in the premiership and USA getting a player like Strachan is more or less impossible these days. Too much of a drop in wages. Although I would not compare Strachan to Gerrard and Lampard. Those guys are nearly past it. But even though he was 32 yrs old I would say we got Gordon in his prime.
If we could get Vidic for 25 grand a week i'd say snap him up.
Not sure where you getting that wage from though?

Just want write my opinion about the Sam Byram saga and the January transfer window in general. So on the Sam Byram saga I am upset, sad and disappointed to see him go obviously, ( Even more so with my opinion about youngsters. ) but really we had no choice in the end because we all knew it was very unlikely he was staying. I also think 3.9 mil is a decent fee for a player who has 6 months remaining on his contract. This is quite a controversial opinion even more so with my opinion about youngsters, I know Sam is a good young player and I know Cellino gave him a ridiculous offer in the first place but what if Byram was wanting too much and if we gave him that maybe it would not be fair on older experienced players like Bamba and Aunty Lucy because if you put this way someone comes in to your job and I know it is completely different to being a football player but your an old experienced worker who deserves a wage increase but a young lad has just come in and is getting a higher wage than for doing the same job that is not fair. (IMO the only counter argument to that is how many games he played for us. ) And I think that is the problem with modern football players get too much at a young age they should have to work for it. ( Place your opinion down below about that. ) Anyway before I get into a rant about that I will move on and wish Sam luck for the rest of his career and hopefully we get spend this money well and get in a good experienced championship striker preferably with pace and who is a well proven goal scorer at this level. And if there is any money left over we should get a proven championship centre back permanently with Money or free or loan. So hopefully we can improve the squad with 2 players who fit that bill and have the best season we possibly can have starting by beating Bristol 2 0 at ER as Vid and Mad Mick would say Up the Whites and Down the Pints! MOT!

I guarantee Sam will be a roaring success at W Ham. The lad is a classy player made for the premier league. At least I hope so.
Because unlike some Leeds fans I always wish the best to a player who served us well. And he did. Its not his fault he was treated so bad my a loony tunes chairman and actually offered a paycut!
Not to mention being slandered by the mad man.
Best of luck in the your future Sam Byram is what I say.

So we're looking at 2 players, we hope to sign in next 48 hours. Does anyone else think the management are churning the same promises out, only to be forgotten about on the eve of a match? They're almost as predictable as Cellino's loan with an option to buy.

I hope I'm wrong. A couple of decent additions would certainly give us a boost and with Woody returning I'm going for a big 3-0. Get on it boys. Best price 21/ 1 with Bet Victor as seen on Oddschecker - other price comparison sights are available.

Come on Vid old boy, plenty of beer tokens to be had - Down Those Pints and Up The Whites!

I have just read with great interest Evans claims we have made a lot of wrong signings over a number of years (at last someone can see that) , however as the majority if not all of our recent signings have been picked my our beloved chairman, I wonder if Mr Evans has the b******s to tell him. That might explain why Evans was called to a meeting with Cellino earlier today.

Interesting the Steve should actually notice this, perhaps it's that fact that our strikers don't score are defenders can't defend and our goalkeepers got holes in his gloves. I think he's onto something! I really hope he's gets the chance to sort it out because he does seem to say it as it is and that's really refreshing.
Now he just need our El Presidente to stop thinking he's our chief scout.

I'd go for a yellow Reliant Robin painted with Sardinia, Paris, Holbeck on the side. Cellino at the wheel in a sheepskin coat smoking a big fat cigar and the words 'no income tax, no VAT, dodgy signings from Italy' in a nice scroll underneath. Pucka Rodney!

Looks like there's more money available than just the Byram cash according to big boy Stevie. This seems to contradict the theory that Cellino is skint mentioned by one person on here. Let's hope he can spend it and Cellino doesn't make a t*t of himself in the negotiations by offering Messi ยฃ30 per week on a YTS scheme!

Been saying since beccio was seen back at Leeds that we should have let him train with us build up his match fitness then sign him on a short term deal, think we have missed a chance there, got a feeling he is going to start banging Em in for redders, a fit injury free beccio is a no brainer.

Still say I'd only get players in who are better than what we have. Or to make the team more balanced. Like Bige, I'm not to convinced with the strikers we are going for. The problem is there seems to be a lot of negativity amongst the fans. People saying we need 4/5 players but Myself, I'd rather we dealt with cover for left back and 1 quality signing, which would send a message to the fans, the players and to the world at large, that we are seriously trying to build for the future and doing everything possible to get to the premier league.

As we have lost Byram, who not go for Douglas from Barcelona. He is a right-back and Barcelona are desperate to sell him, but no one else is interested. I think he would be a good replacement and could provide competition for Berardi for the first team place.
