We need to sign a winger, Barker (Man City) Isgrove (Southampton) Harry Wilson (Liverpool) or even go abroad and bring in say Kingsley Colman (Juventus). All are very fast and good at crossing those all important balls into Erwin and Woods

For midfielder, Cook and Mowatt are both very good players at th club and are future captains, but we need to bring in a older midfielder. Let's say Joey Barton for know.

Message for smitch! Just watched first 30 minutes of psg v fiorentina. Good news it's not just us that aren't up to scratch in pre season both teams making silly mistakes and look sloppy and lazy, I don't think we can class he frankfurt game as anything negative. Let's wait for Burnley for the negativity or (realism)

With 4-3-3 you do not NEED out and out wingers.
If you can play with pace and quickly change defence into attack then if the midfield forwards pass quickly and accurately then the 3 forwards have every opportunity to penetrate with incisive passing and shots on goal. The two caveats would be that the 3 forwards spread and chances must be taken with confidence and not snatched at. Should any width be required it can be supplied by a midfielder or an overlapping full back. Similarily with 4-4-2 any midfielder worth his salt should be able to take any defender on on the outside and cross a ball. Finally the key word was NEED for if a quality wideman became available I would never say no. They are some of the most exciting to watch

well said been saying this for ages. chealsea have no wingers and no do city really and they seem to be doing ok. also remember the teams nickname under sargent wilko. the wingless wonders. We need pace and quality not wingers. I would say a centre back is a must really

You mention pace. Where is the pace in the midfield? Cook, not really. Mowatt, no way, Murphy, nope and so on. We have one of the most talented you midfields, but like last year we have no pace. Watford and Bournmouth ripped us apart, ok we managed a double over Bournmouth, but being at both games we were very, very lucky. Now they had page. I'm not going to bang on about wingers, but when we had Gradel he was an outlet. Snoddy didn't havr pace, but had skill in abundance. I don't think we have pace.

i think cook has a burst of pace. bryam could play further forward and is quite quick. I do agree about pace though, I hear usain bolt is a free transfer

23 Jul 2015 17:16:43
The "pace" comes from quick incisive passing. (Forwards and not, as often happens, side to side - the safe option) If the attacking tempo is high then retreating defences have little time to organise. Have fath in the our defence and always keep 2 up front to chase and harry

No denying we can pass the ball well out of midfield and maybe it was just the formation we played that restricted us, but what I saw home and away last season was no real pace. We need outlets and usually (Not solely) are wide men.

Well, Uwe says MC has told him Sam will NOT be sold this summer. If (and with MC that's a big if), that turns out to be the case, I for one will be pleased, and think it sends out a strong signal of intent. I know there will be those who would rather see him sold for 8 mill and the money invested in a couple of those players who play wider than other players - but I'm not convinced if we did sell the cash would be reinvested in that way. Of course if he stays we should get him on a good contract so we can cash in when he goes next summer (or January if things go tits up)

good post, I think sb is in his last year if so I would make him sign by start of season or get rid we don't want another freebie leaving us which is what I think will happen. hope sb fullfills his potential as I have never been impressed with him since debut season and think he might be bit complacent. be interesting to see where he plays? I think we will play 4-3-3 which means we don't need WINGERS like at chelsea who do well with no wingers. will sam play right back or attacking right inside forward? or leave? possiblities are endless well there are a few

Hazard is hard to place as he is a roaming player, if anything he is a number 10 and willian is not a winger. by winger I mean ryan giggs, andre kanceslski, best, overmars, matthews wide men who hug touchline beat man with pace and cross ball. If you look at all top teams and top players this really is a dying art, look at city, barca, real, man utd, chealsea. they do not really use this type of player. Cazorla, nasri, silva, hazard could also be classed as wingers but they are not, not really. when was the last time barca or brazil played with a out and out winger? Even out and out wingers like ronaldo and bale have had to change there game and change from being out and out wingers and this role is not use at their clubs. to lesser extent same could be said of Robben and the french bloke whoes name I can't think of right now. That is what I am saying. Call hazard and willian what you like but they are not true widemen, true widemen are hard to find now days. I challenge anyone to name five. and kebe doesn't count

{Ed001's Note - Jesus Navas is an old fashioned winger who plays for City Berm.}

Navas , Lennon , downing , Milner ,Ritchie , there's loads but now your going to tell me there not?

I realise I will be slated as being ever the pessimist but right now we are in exactly the same position as we were last year, and the year before. Same posts same cr*p.
1.Do you think we should sign so and so. wouldn't he be a great addition etc etc.
My Observation: Yes all of these suggestions are great for 'banter' but we all know they are not going to happen.
2. Such and such a winger is available.
My Observation: Again great stuff but not going to happen.
3. If we get this or that sorted we will definitely be pushing for promotion.
My Observation: Self delusion I'm afraid.

The reality is that we have a poorer squad now than we did when we came up from league one. We are looking at a mid table, at best, finish to the season. One positive is that we probably have the best manager we have had since Larry left.
We are Leeds, proud always, proud forever, and never accepting of guys, and this guy is no different from GFH and Bates, buying our club and pissing down our backs while telling us it is raining.
Rant over!

WWW,we are only 2 good players short of threatening top 2 in this league. That's progress. Add Barker and a striker better than Antenucci or Sharp and you have a team most championship sides would fear.

Forgive me George and WWW, but I can't agree with either of you.
I think it's more than 2 good players, but I don't think it's the doom and gloom professed by WWW

have to disagree with post. yes Grayson put together a great team, but that team was dismantled for peanuts and put back together for pennies. so simon's work was almost pointless. MC is righting these wrongs, bates sold gems. MC is holding on to our gems and putting pieces together to make a good side. Are things perfect. no but are they the best they have been for ages. yes and do we think things will get better year after year. yes MC has shown progession and that is good
