Use our rumours form to send us leeds transfer rumours.

23 Jul 2011 22:53:20
For weeks now those of us who have been complaining that Master Bates is not replacing the numerous players who have left since last season have been slated by fans who see our squad through rose coloured spectacles and believe true fans accept whatever the club do without question.
I have been an obsessive Leeds fan since 1967 and will always support the team regardless how poorly they perform. With the season less than a fortnight away our current squad would do well to survive let alone make the playoffs. Ignoring the transfer fees for Delph and Schmeichel, the TV fees for our numerous televised matches and cup runs for last two years plus the millions of compensation for Woods , Taiwo, Garbett and Kebbie and the highest ticket prices and average attendances in the football league simple mathematics suggest that even with a rigid wage bill the number of wages saved should have meant some decent signings. We released at least 10 players so if they averaged 8k which is a pittance in this league we should have 80k to offer in wages between the players we want and we probably need 4 or 5. The fact is that McCartney and Schmeichel were two of the highest earners so where is the money ?
There will still be dreamers who believe because " In Grayson we trust " and this blind faith is driven by the belief that to question is to be disloyal.
SG has done very well considering KB makes life so difficult for him but even he sounds frustrated at banging his head up a brick wall. He seems resigned to waiting until premier league teams announce their 25 players just like he did last January when we blew the amazing position we were in on Boxing Day and clings waiting for one or two answers over the weekend.( None of the trialists are good enough ( I await abuse for that but I will be proved right )
I would love to be proved wrong, I would love us to make some great signings Leeds United is my greatest passion in life but this is why I can see that we are not balancing the books we are storing our assets for a rainy day ( in Monaco )The last time we spent 7 million was probably Seph Johnson and that made as much sense as Master Bates current project.
Apart from the muppets whose grannies aunties dog heard a whisper from Facebook or twitter and the plonker who persistently posts lies about unknown non league players we all want to see our beloved club back where we belong. With the most expensive rose coloured lenses in the world we have no chance at the moment with a squad threadbear on numbers let alone quality.

Believable11 Unbelievable2

The compensation for the kids won't amount to much unless they play some games, kilkenny and johnson were both on about 4k, most of the cup money was put into mccartney's wages. It's not naive to have faith in grayson - he crafted a team last year that didn't flirt with relegation for a second when we all thought we'd do well to consolidate. His target this year is the playoffs so I think he will produce a team that will get there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Full marks to the first reply above. Those who are not constantly whining and moaning aren't showing blind faith at all. Simon Grayson is a good young manager, he's a Yorkshire lad and a Leeds fan since childhood. He's not stupid. He got us out of League One in his first full season after almost managing promotion from the awful position Gary Mac left us in the season before. Last season, after many Leeds fans on forums such as this were predicting relegation 12 months ago, he very nearly took us to the play-offs in the first season back in the Championship. Ok, I hear you all saying we collapsed after Christmas, but is this just SG's fault? What of the players? I think a few let him down badly in the run-in.

We will make some decent signings before the season starts. If things were really as bad behind the scenes as many are making out, SG would resign.

One thing is for certain - we need to get behind the team right from the off. Anti-Bates chanting and the like is going to do no good at all. Does anyone believe Bates would walk because some fans wanted him to? Of course not The only thing negative chanting at Elland Road will do is create a stifling, hostile atmosphere FOR OUR OWN PLAYERS Where's the sense in that?

Help the team - don't hinder them.

MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

Whatever about compo for the kids, we have the dearest ticket prices and the highest attendences in this division. And have you ever heard of first season syndrome? You know when a team comes up from a lower division and overachieves only to go down the following season? Im not saying we will go down but i agree with the op i dont see any signs of building on what we did last season atm. We made a profit last season Fact We sold a keeper for 1mill+ than was on wages of 10k+ we got alot of other players off the wage bill. We have money its just up to now nothing has been spent on the team and the squad is threadbear.

Agree0 Disagree0

Original post is spot on, and the first response guy if you believe Johnson and Killa were on 4k a week then your clearly deluded. And as for compensation due to them being poached it would of been enough for us to be active in this window. Whats left is free transfers that nobody else wanted

Agree0 Disagree0

We have quality throughout the current squad in every position. Most teams in this league would snap our hands off for Kisnorbo, gradel, snodgrass, mccormack, becchio and howson. Add to that the relatively untested nunez, lees and white and thats a great start. Brown will add experience and bite. Not saying we don't need anyone else but not in a bad state to start off with, unilke leicester and derby which is why they've had to buy 8-10 players each.

Agree0 Disagree0

We might as well just let the doom and gloom brigade bore us all to death for another year. I don't know where they'd all gone around last Christmas, maybe they spend the festive season abroad.......

Typical of the attitudes prevalent this summer were those concerning Andy Lonergan when we were reportedly about to sign him a few weeks ago. "But he's rubbish, not as good as Kasper", they all wailed. But following reports that Everton (yes Everton ie from the Premiership) had beat us to his signature, things seemed to change. Then it was "Oh here we go again, we can't compete, we'll never sign quality blah blah blah". But hang on, I thought he was rubbish anyway?

In other words, the club can't ******* win with a lot of fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Original post was spot on. As is always the way the ultra optimists try and smooth over the cracks again, lambasting our worries and negativities as not getting behind our team. The main post never once doubted graysons abilities, what it is saying, as so many have, Is that Grayson is lacking the funds and backing from a board which should be building on last years success. 6 out of the 11 that beat QPR last season are no longer in our side. Half of these replaced by a 34 year old journey man and several trialists who are below par and just looking to earn a wage. Were realists and can see the situation for what it is. Grayson has no funds, is unable to replace or sustain the squad he wants, plagued with injuries and controlled by a frugal, stubborn old man who is stuck in the dark ages.

Agree0 Disagree0

No, seriously, Killa & Johnson were on about £4k a week, Bristol are paying triple what we paid him so if you honestly think they're paying him like £20k upwards you're deluded. Plus we signed Johnson from Northampton, he will of been on peanuts there.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree some of the players didn't play well in the second half of the season, but as manager sg should have given a few of the squad players a go, lets be honest they couldn't have played much worst, but sg does seem to stick with some players even though they are clearly struggling for form, yes he is doing ok but must learn quickly how to shake thinks up, would love sg to take us to the prem but just because he's a yorkshire lad does give him a pass on his tactics sometimes, as we all know no-one bigger then the club

Agree0 Disagree0

Dear idiot, anti - bates chants won't hinder the team. we've signed worse players than we had last season, are likely to struggle and he needs to realised side before prawns every time

Agree0 Disagree0

YOU are the idiot. You obviously have no clue at all.

Go and boo at your tiddlywinks.

Agree0 Disagree0

So Michael Brown's worse than Johnson and Kilkenny? Yeah right.

Agree0 Disagree0

No he's better than johnson thats why johnson is going to be playing in the prem this year and brown well no prem team were looking for brown now were they? Wonder why?

Leeds to sign Tom Soares at least thats what he's saying on twitter. Great signing imo.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Why is this in banter, its straight from tom soares lol

Agree0 Disagree0

For all you pedantic chumps, i got to leeds earlier this evening. had a chat with some people, i'm now stayin with a pal in Leeds, not Stoke

Taken from his Twitter, looks like your right about it.

Don't want him what a donkey went to charlton on loan they got relegated went to sheff wed guess what they got relegated man's an person he's s**te

Agree0 Disagree0

And before anyone posts that its a fake account he has just posted a pic of himself holding a peice of paper on which he has written MOT on and his name and he seems like a good laugh

Is it just me or does anyone think Grayson and Bates 48 hours stance is taking ages :s

Believable8 Unbelievable0

It's a joke. All clubs in the Championship have been signing up players. We had one of the worst defences in the league and have signed no defenders and a 2nd choice goolkeeper. Lost 2 central midfielders and signed 1 has been. Got 2 strikers out injured and signed nobody We will be fighting relegation with this squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

By the time Grayson and Bates 48 hours ends, the transfer window will have been shut for a couple of months

See hull demolished Liverpool who turned out a full side After watching today's game at Wednesday we can only dream of such a performance........

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Funny described the Liverpool side as a team full of players trying to put themselves in shop window that means players who might not be in dalghlishs plans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shop window or no shop window, still included downing and Henderson amongst other well proven premier league and international players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pre-season results mean absolutely nothing. I thought everyone knew that.

just had a freebie in directors box "a big time charlie" at sheff wed, m, d, at leeds, lorimer n snodin seem to brush my concerns off, i am usually north east stand so i, m no nut case, ad a chat with all 3 , aparently, nothing lined up at all , lorimer in defence of over spending which i fully endorse but he could not justify not replacing or building on last years performance, this day out left me mortified on our future, sorry to worry anyone who is a genuine white, , , ps swfc hospitality was borderline pathetic/ poor, in a nut sseasonhell , last minute freebies and cast offs day before season starts, , , , , barnsley whites

Let's say I'm a decent championship level player. why would i want to sign for a club who

a) offers half the wages i could get anywhere else in the league;

b) the fans would quickly get on my back if i hit the slightest run of bad form;

and c) the chairman has a history of publicly humiliating and insulting his own squad members for no apparent reason.

tell me why.

One person I want to see more of is Tom lees. Done well at bury last year scored a few goals. Him and kissa at the back could do well because kissa could be the rock and lees could do all of kisnorbos leg work

Also, Rachubka looked a fairly steady keeper, a steady keeper in this division but not what I would call top 6 material.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

23 Jul 2011 16:54:39
Having been at the Sheffield Wednesday game, Mendy looked like a good player given time to settle into the English game, would be a good back up to Gradel if Sam is going as a back up to Snodgrass. Bodor had good vision & looked like he could put a good tackle in, lacks great pace or positional awareness but the awareness will develop as he settles into the English game. Pleased with Osbourne, looked a very calm defensive midfield player, disappointed with Clayton & unfortunately, Nunez didn't manage to make an impression on the game at all. Brown was steady if uninspiring.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

What game was u watching clayton was one ov the best players today.we really need a striker paynter can't even jump for a header never mind score a goal

Bates out. His I'll treatment of players and poor wage policy is strangling our club, Grayson is a mere puppet employed to try and strung together bates' threadbare side. Players don't want to leave our club, the stubborn old man has forced them out. Bates is ruining what respect our glorious club has left

Believable5 Unbelievable1

23 Jul 2011 17:31:24
I dont get it, still no signings worth a light, we looked ver very average today. I can not believe we will go anywhere next season unless something happens We are being left behind yet again unable to land one decent signing while our players leave and get injured .......Why

i see that smith is in usa with newcastle i thought he would be with the stiffs in holland . dont think he, ll be coming then shame

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Thought you knew that already
Main reason is because Cabaye didn't travel so Smith went instead.
Only played 45mins of the Kansas match however and isn't expected to play much in Orlando. Newcastle sources still adamant that they want to move him on, wages are an issue as they are reluctant to loan him out.

Hi Ed Bodor came on for Parker and got turned inside out by Johnson of Sheffield on this one performance It would be hard to say that he is the ideal solution for left back he had one free kick attempt that only just got off the floor, Mendy looked like given time to settle in he may do something but never really troubled there defence apart from one shot he put into the side netting, to me we were out battled again in mid field we showed no real goal threat except for Gradel who again worked hard but the final ball into our strikers was miles wide of the mark, people blame paynter for a lack of goals but he never gets the ball in the positions he needs to get it no one seems to feed him in he has to pick up on the bits after high balls are played in aimlessly, the same with McCormack in the second half, we don't seem to have a player that can put the ball where it needs to be and defenders find it all to easy to cut out poor passes, it's obvious that we need extra talent in the midfield we are just not going to compete in there with what we have, we are still very weak against any player with pace. I hope Grayson has not left it to late to bolster the squad with only two weeks left to kick off in my opinion we are not good enough at the moment for a top six place. {Ed032's Note - thanks for your contribution

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Barry Ferguson gone to Blackpool, we should have gone in for him
The sooner this club gets a new owner with cash to invest and vision the better.

just watched the match against sheffield if this is getting towards the team we are going to put out against southampton then I am sorry but we are going to suffer 3 words sums up Leeds NOT GOOD ENOUGH. {Ed032's Note - what were bodor and mendy like?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Mendy showed promise but needs to adapt to the English game, also Bodor seemed to have good vision an it was clear he has played at a high level, though his positioning & pace are questionable, maybe the positioning is due to not knowing the English game?

Agree0 Disagree0

----------- Lonergan------------
Conolly. Kisnorbo Lees. Parker

--------Howson--Brown-------

Snodgrass----Nunez----Gradel

-------------Becciho------------

I think this team could make a push especially with a new keeper and possibly a CB. Another idea with this team drop out Nunez/Gradel and put McCormack/Somma when he's fit to play up front with Becciho

Believable2 Unbelievable3

That would be a very average side

Agree0 Disagree0

We wont see Becciho until after christmas if were lucky, parker injured and not that good anyway, a serious lack of speed in the def/def-mid area. If you think this team could push for promo your delusional

Agree0 Disagree0

NOT Parker thank you - not good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Becciho wont be out for to long, he will miss the start of season but not much more, simon grayson on yorkshire radio :)

Agree0 Disagree0

More spin Becciho's been injured since the end of last season, yet its not until he comes back for pre-season that the club decide he needs an opp on his hamstring, when he does comeback he will have to do atleast a months training to get fully fit. You wont see him until christmas. But hey if grayson says he will be back in a couple of weeks we dont have to bring another striker in do we.

Agree0 Disagree0

So how long do you reckon a player who hasn't trained for 4-5months and is coming back from a hamstring opp will take to get match fit then lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Becchio won't be out for long at all but we still need to sign a striker because Paynter is a JOKE.

Agree0 Disagree0

Becchio is out 3 months minimum. wake up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Becchio wont be out for long based on what? At a wild guess I would say you have never played football at any level and have no clue about pre-season, coming back from an operation or anything else

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jul 2011 14:43:23
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas for sale, could be decent buy if bates can afford it, but then again does fit what we are looking for hes not OLD, EX Blackpool OR Free LOL

Believable4 Unbelievable0

We wont be signing him, 3 of the clubs in for him are cardiff, pompy and blackpool. Bates wont spend half a mill on a player nevermind a mill. Sad to say we will be battling against relegation instead of pushing for promotion this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't be anywhere near going down. Get a grip ffs.

At the Leeds game now & although I do appreciate that it is a pre season friendly so the team isn't a finished article, this team looks worse than last year, Brown is a weak Johnson & Clayton is a better tackling but worse passing version of Kilkenny, we also look toothless up front with Paynter..

Have defended our great club in recent weeks, including bates and Grayson. A lot of the below posts are true despite the constant ultra optimists bemoaning thier pessimism. We have signed no one, failed to attract big players and spent nothing, no matter how little. Someone mentioned previously how the game has changed and that money talks. In today's game it does and unfortunately money makes an attractive package not reputation anymore. No one is asking for millions, just attractive offers to the right players. Also selling your bright goal keeping prospect to one of your closest rivals wasn't good business sense no matter how the optomists want to beef it up. Kasper didn't ship 70 goals. The liquorice Alsorts of a defence we had did. We have been left with a stubborn old man as a chairman who is stuck in the late eighties early nineties where 3 pints and a packet of pork scratchings was enough to get a defender to sign on.

While bates may be a business man, the modern day business man has to speculate to accumulate. While I applaud bates vision to make elland road earn 365 days a year, it's essentially a football club, with a fan base that requires ambition, investment and a willingness to take a chance. I sm not asking for "ridsdaleesque" chances, but looking back it worked for time.

I want to see us showing interest in good names. Sadly were not, why is that? Because agents tell their players were not competitive in the wages Market. Sod all this "they will come if they want to play for Leeds" modern day footballers beR no allegiance, but to their own wallet. The shirt is just a uniform like any other.

It's a sorry state of affairs, last year was the time for free transfers and thrifty business. After last year, there should be bigger investment, there isn't and that lays totally at bates door. A laugh, a joke, a silly old man, stubborn and stuck in his ways with no desire to push the boundaries

A goal keeper is only ad good as his defence. So why aren't we signing anyone else if we shipped 70 goals? Yes let's blood the youth in, but seriously, the goal Keeper shouldn't have gone.

Destroy my pessism if you like, but it's the truth {Ed032's Note - everyone is entitled to their own opinion but dont go looking for the rope just yet

Believable7 Unbelievable1

I agree with most of what you say, the players we have got rid of have not been replaced, we had the nucleus of a good side at the end of the season, a few good signings would have seen us challengeing again, I see Parkers come off ijured yet again, apart from being injury prone, hes way too slow, as is Paynter, so how come Grayson doesnt see what we see, without 3 or 4 new, quality signings I fear a season of struggle ahead, odds of 16-1 to get promoted are about right, we are a great club and now need great leadership, our fans deserve nothing less.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Grayson does see what we see, but he is bound by the strangulating financial nonsense of bates. Whenever I see Grayson talk about transfers he looks empty and clueless. He isn't in control, far from it. I doubt very much he gets any of his targets and the scouts are told to look for frees. Grayson is just putting up with what he is told is available. I don't blame grayson, he is z good manager, just doesn't have the backing from bates

Agree0 Disagree0

Its so obvious yes - grayson should resign on principle as he is not in control - he is beig made to look foolish and losing the respect he had gained previously - Bates has clearly no sense of modern reality - he is and im nr being ageist - n=NOT got his finger on the current pulse - he is stubborn and in the wrong business - the fans anger and the teams lack of style and the clubs stasis and decline will prove this unless a huge new change comes about - i.s his demise as chairman

Agree0 Disagree0

He must bf immensely frustrated at the lack of money he has. I can only imagine he feels exactly the same as us when he sees our competition strengthening with good, well proven championship players. I doubt very much he wanted kasper to go. I saw that as a bit of a coup. Players aren't leaving because they want to. Bates' I'll treatment and poor wages are forcing them out. He is ruining what respect our club has left.

There is something fundamentally wrong at Elland Road

We are one of the biggest clubs in the championship, if not the biggest

It has been a disaster in the transfer market this summer

Nobody wants to sign for us

Surely its not just down to offering players not enough money

Where is all the money Bates promised Grayson
We have so far got in freebies once again

Not good enough

Egg on the faces for Bates and Grayson, with the comments they made about getting all these good players in etc etc

I doubt it the club is worse than the MPAA for cracking down on that sort of thing. I wont be paying for lutv or a jersey until I see some money being invested in the team.

Im working today otherwise id of been there {Ed032's Note - should be a big crowd

Ha ha ha who does Rio Ferdinand think he is Telling that Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are not to be "in awe" off him and not to be put off by "big reputations. Think he needs to be knocked off his pedestal a bit Your hardly world class mate, might be some where near top of your game in premiership, but every where else your down the list.......... What a t**t

So we sold last seasons highly rated keeper to the clear favorites to win our division for around 1m. SG stated he was sold for footballing reasons as the team conceded over 70 goals last season. It's now 2 weeks until the season starts with a tricky opening handful of games and we have signed no defenders and a keeper who was thought to replace 2nd choice Higgs. I know we have got Paddy back (and please God let him be back to at least near his best) and Parker who will get skinned by fast wingers every week but surely this is not good enough. LLoyd Samuel hasn't been a success elsewhere but is probably better than what we have and OB is still injured....anyone else a bit concerned that a decent side might expose our back 5 ?

It will take less than a decent size to expose our backline mate

14 days till Championship Kick Off, and our squad is in a worst state than when we were in League One Injuries to our best 2 strikers, no number 1 keeper, and everyone else is signing players we want or players we have Dear me. Not looking forward to next season........... Oh, we do have 2 Villa Rejects that NOBODY even put up a fight to sign.......Not good Grayson/Bates. They need to stop promising to complete signings in "The Next 48 hrs " too........... What time zone are they on?

I'm not a fan of Billy Paynter, I think he could be dead weight, maybe quite a heavy dead weight for that matter. But everytime I think about this all I can remember is away at Preston, I was sat near the front-ish and I can't recall the amount of people but a medium sized section of the crowd decided to get behind Paynter it was quite a laugh so I joined in, they started chanting his name for no reason and shouting 'come on Billy', 'bounce for Billy' etc. etc. He scored and came running to that section of the crowd, I'm not a fan of him but the glass has got to be half full right? Give him his chance this season, it'll be up to him to prove himself, but we could help him out and get behind him, get behind the team for that matter. Come on Leeds, we'll follow you through thick and thin no matter what.
