Use our rumours form to send us leeds transfer rumours.

24 Jul 2013 22:53:33
One thing that has occurred to me with all the red bull speculation around elland rd re-naming etc - if we don't own the stadium and the rumours are true, does that cause an issue? Also, a few leople seem to believe that any deal around red bull buying the stadium and renaming it would mean £x amount for the club, certain people rightly saying because we don't own it, they are wrong BUT what it perhaps means is that the £2m plus per season we pay in rent could be then ours in return for the them being associated with us. all speculation and I wait for some clarity and hopefully investment but perhaps some food for thought? I along with us all pray for some investmnt so BM can get 2 or 3 more in at least who can give us a serious chance at promotion. if red bull are serious then we could well be in for what we all have craved for for the last 9/10 years

Surely we would buy back TA and ER with the money. save us at least 2m a year in rent plus have a few bob left for players.

Red bull to buy into the club name, Sorry. not Elland Road! So if it goes ahead they get the rights to name the Club; Leeds United Red Bulls or whatever.

I have to take my hat off to superfan haigh aka publicity Dave he's finally pulled off the big elland road deal! After months of difficuly negotiations and much ridicule (mainly from myself) he's brought home the big one! Subbuteo challenge cup qualifers at elland road next month!

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not be keen on the name change but then I was not keen on the Wildcats part being added to Wakefield Trinity's name but this went ahead anyway and we have all got used to it. Trinity are now an established part of the Super League so maybe changing the team name might help return Leeds United to the promised land of the Premier League. If this happened then I would be happy, after all, it would still be our beloved Leeds United only in a higher league

As much as I would like Red Bull and their money i'm not so sure about the naming rights, if they wish to sponsor ER then so be it, it will be probably a 7 year deal at the most and then be up for grabs to the highest bidder again which again can only be good for the club, however after doing a little bit of research Red Bull currently sponsor a number of teams around the world
New York Red Bulls,
FC Red Bull Salzburg,
RB Leipzig
I think you can see where i'm coming from, I don't think I could stomach FC Red Bull Leeds or some derivative of that but would like to hear your views.

They won't invest in a club for its identity then take it away ' this is our 10th year out of the prem and we have won one trophy in the last 43 years and we can still attract a company with a 5bn turnover. ground and ta renamed and anybody saying any different is being mischevious.

Agree0 Disagree0

So the league in 1992 doesn't count. That was 21 years ago not 43.

That's the trophy he meant when he said 1 mate

Agree0 Disagree0

So 43 years ago (1970) - Since then we have won the Fairs Cup (1971), 1st Division (73-74 / 91-92), FA Cup (1972), Charity Shield (1992) and the 2nd Division Championship (89-90) - 7 trophies in all, although not all the biggest trophies they are trophies after all

Inside contacts at Red Bull have confirmed that they have offered a lucrative sum for the naming rights of both leeds and Elland road. soon to be called Leeds United Bulls and Elland Bull Stadium

Looking at our current crop of players I honestly feel that GFH's target of promotion to the top flight by 2015 is completely achievable:

Paddy Kenny- Say what you will about him but he is, at championship level, a top class goalkeeper.

Sam Byram- Obviously the stand-out talent at Elland Road, and if Leeds can keep him away from the hands of PL clubs, he will continue to be an amazing asset for us.

Tom Lees- Every season Tom develops more as a player, and at only 22, he is one of the best and most promising defenders in this league.

Stephen Warnock- A PL quality left-back; what Stephen lacks in pace he more than makes up for in experience. His dead balls will be key to any success in the coming seasons.

Rudolph Austin- A poor man's Yaya Toure. He is a strong commanding midfielder that can power past players with ease as well as helping defensively. Last season a combination of International games and club games for both Leeds & SK Brann led to fatigue, meaning we didn't see the best of old Rudy.

Luke Murphy- One of Brian's summer targets, and if the price has anything to go by, the most promising one. I, like many can't wait to see Luke hit the ground running this season; both vision and a variety of passes are what we know he will surely bring. and still only 23.

Paul Green- Looks to be adapting to his 'new' more defensive role at Leeds, a position he made his own at Derby. Last season we saw him injured and playing on the right of midfield often, one of the key examples of Warnock playing players out of position.

Luke Varney- Inconsistent yes, but can play in several positions and is good enough to win points on his own this season. (Proved by his performance at Stevenage).

El Hadji Diouf- An extremely quality player at this level and possibly higher. Diouf's passing and hold up game gives Leeds a new dimension to go forward. Not to mention his ability to win free-kicks by the art of. falling.

Ross McCormack- Ross was injured for a good chunk of last season, but we saw glimpses of what he can do; the Tottenham goal the pick of the lot. He could easily grab 20+ goals this season if he avoids injury.

Dominic Poleon- Seems to have come into his own in pre-season (forgetting a few 'how did he miss that' moments at Stevenage). Fast, Strong and only 19. Could be vital in any success for years to come.

Obviously there are other players I have not mentioned (Hunt, Smith, White, Dawson etc. ) however it's just proof our squad is good. Yes, we are lacking wide players and a solid CB to pair with Lees, but it's not all doom and gloom at Leeds. We need to ship off some dead-wood such as Drury, Pugh & Norris (the latter 2 being linked with Preston & Bournemouth respectively) to free up some funds, but with the RedBull possible investment, cheaper tickets, new marketing schemes & a quality scout turned manager, I really feel the future is bright. (white).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with most but defiantly not austin, overated and all he does is shoot terrible player. sell him please leeds! also varney didn't get points on his own, open your eyes and your see they were all basics goals v stevenage created by others.

Agree0 Disagree0

Luke Varney has the chance to thrive this season without the 'hoofball' tactic! His goal at Tottenham was evidence enough he can play well. And I agree about Austin's shooting, he needs to cut that out of his game a little!

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought austins wayward passing was the problem, but do agree he had extra long season last year. Was halfway through a season before he came to leeds, then hell of a lot of round the world travelling for internationals. Hopefully he can regain some form and fitness

Agree0 Disagree0

Rudy is a beast all these fans saying he is terrible get a grip when he first joined leeds he had already played half a season over in norway then without any rest he had pre season with us then got a bad injury vs watford and was rushed back by you know who and to top it of had to fly all over the world to play for jamaica

Agree0 Disagree0

At the start of the season Rudy was our best player and when he got injured we came off the rails.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post. It is good to see positive posts. I agree we have the basis of a good team. Shipping out any of these key players I think would be a mistake.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post and I agree with most. Austin for me though is a weak link. Ideally I would like somebody in there to replace him. Injuries is another factor. The players you list should have us near the top 6, but we ain't got a great deal to bring in if we lose anybody.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit odd but I think that Brown is having a good Pre Season! He's setting up a few goals and has come close to scoring himself on a few occasions

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think it's worth it selling him. He's worth no more than 20,000 to sell. He makes up the numbers and as a squad player who will get in the premier league teams faces in the fa cup. I also think when we're playing teams like qpr with quite obviously a lot more quality we need him, Austin and green to get stuck in and just stop them by being aggressive. He doesn't have quality but he's a hard worker who will shut down quality opposition like against Tottenham

Agree0 Disagree0

He's probably been told he's not allowed to kick sh*t out of people in 'friendlies'.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know it's all talk and probably massively blown out of proportion but I'm really worried about the thought of the Club changing it's identity if a 'link up' with Red Bull goes through. I've learnt to take absolutely every single detail I ever hear in the press or anywhere else with a pinch of salt when it comes down to Leeds United and takeovers/transfers but this is one I really really hope never comes to light. I'd rather be a mid table championship under the name and crest of Leeds United than battling for the Premier League Title under the name of Leeds United Red Bulls with a red bull on the logo. I'm afraid to say it, but if this comes to pass, I will no longer follow the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Even if Red Bull do come on board (it's a big IF by the way) they will not change the name of the club. The biggest thing to draw RB to Leeds was the established brand of Leeds United, it's what makes them worth backing!
Clearly the stadium name is up for grabs (like 85% of stadiums in England), we have to accept that as normal in 2013 and get over it ffs!

Agree0 Disagree0

I will accept a red bull stadium and just ignore it. But I would not support Leeds red bulls. I do not intend to spend free time supporting a PR juganaught for a large multi national sports drink. Like it not Leeds United would have ceased to exist. I don't think that's unreasonable. Fans have to expect change in modern football with the finances involved, but as a point of principle support has to be withdrawn when the executives at the club show so little respect for the fans and the heritage of the club and actually change its name. to a caffeine based drink. No thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe you would have been happier if the smurf had bankrupted the club into oblivion.

. the day they move the club out of elland road, make us play in red, and change our name completely is the day I'll give up!

Agree0 Disagree0

Firstly I've not heard they will add there name on to the team name and/or logo if they did (can't see it) I would still support them and you aren't much of a fan if u don't in my opinion. What more likely is that the stadium name will change and again that in my opinion won't matter a jot because thousands of us, the media, the reporters the media would still call it Elland Rd. I would much rather be top 4 prem with a stupid "red bull" that no one uses after our name than a leeds like this pecking around the bargain basement for years

Agree0 Disagree0

Im surprised you didn't stop following the club when we changed from the yorkshire rose crest to the current 1 if you feel that strongly about it

Agree0 Disagree0

I my friend have to completely agree, when you sell the soul of your club for money then it is no longer your club!

Agree0 Disagree0

To everyone having a pop at the lad for saying he would not support leeds red bulls. Leave him alone its people blindly following clubs that pay them no respect and sell all their best players (cough- bates) and assetts to line their own pockets that mean these people get away with it. We are all supposed to see the tiny light on the horizon until low and behold they move the goalposts again and 2 more players go and another excuse crops up and we all play the waiting game again. anyone see a pattern here!

Agree0 Disagree0

Your either leeds or your not simple as that really there's no inbetween when you support a club like this

Agree0 Disagree0

If they call Elland Road Red Bull arena, change our away kit to all red Ill still support the team, Leeds United is famous world wide so they ain't going to mess with the name, it will always remain Elland Road to the fans whatever they call it, some fans on here are like a bunch of snot nosed kids, if Red bull do this I ain't coming no more, FFS, support the boys whatever or do one.

Agree0 Disagree0

To teh above- eaxctly, I am Leeds United. I am not Leeds United Red Bull. No interest in becoming a cheer leader for a firm of energy drinks made by an eccentric Austrian entrepreneur. Simple as that.

Gomes from spurs would be a good keeper for us he's third choice for them and was good for them Afew seasons ago. I think he's a good option to look at if this red bull investment comes in although I think Kenny isn't a bad player.

For me we have to be bolder thanwe are. Forest bidding for mackie, qpr for hooper or austin and theystill have remy. Bolton with beckford.
Reading in for lambert and they still have le fondre.
Come on we are nowhere near good enough in this area or setting them up.
Bmd great manager in making but he needs support.
One in one out.
Who?
Norris, drury. Etc. What could they generate really. perhaps a wage.
If we stay as we are we will be decent but nowhere near top.
My opinion. Shrew leeds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

McCormack
Poleon
Hunt
Smith

I reckon all of the above will do well this season. We don't need strikers. I agree we need somebody to supply them and another CB is a must

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree theses teams are way stronger than us. Every year we don't go up the championchip gets harder.

I am going to be positive as there seems a lot of negative posts since the Walsall game.

Last season was pretty much rubbish from start to end. Players playing out of position, manager situation, long ball tactics and lack of squad depth was poor, however we could still have made the play offs with a little bit of luck (or if we played for 80 minutes for those few games we let in late goals)

This season we have a better manager, more options as a squad and with the new signings plus Thompson & Poleon coming in we have some competition for places.

We seem to be a couple of players away from a good team. Centre back being the one that seems most important. There's still plenty of time to make signings and I trust that we will get a centre back in at least and hopefully a creative player or 2.

The championship is one of the most competitive leagues and our squad is more than capable of making a good go at promotion.

David haigh sayin leeds are targetin promotion within two year and its very "realistic" No offence to the owners but how the hell are we supposed to get promoted in two years if we have no money, the only things which will get us promoted is if our amazing fans get behind our team

Superfan haigh aka publicity Dave talkin rubbish again! It appears Shaun"socks" Harvey was doing a job that it now takes hunt and haigh to do! i'm not suprised he was always working his socks off nor am I suprised we've no wages left in player budget when we're paying two office staff to do one job!

Not trying to be a wind up merchant or just be plain annoying but to sell Byram for around 5-6 million and have him loaned back for next season and also hopefully that would lead to bringing in 3-4 quality players would be better for the club. We all know how we need a commanding centre back along with Lees, and two wingers with flair and pace. Also maybe another goalkeeper too. JUST SAYING.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That would obviously be a good option to get us up. But we all know if we sell a player for 5 million we won't see half of it so its just pointless. If GFH would give all to brian then that would be good

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jul 2013 09:05:53
Lets hope if these Red Bull rumours are true that it is done soon so we can strengthen and hopefully give it a real go this year, as its getting harder each year to get back where our club our fans and our city deserve to be! Love Leeds love Leeds United MOT

I think that if Brian learned anything last night it would have been "the diamond formation will never work with our current squad"

I admire the guy for trying something different and been very ambitious. we all know that the diamond formation is a very direct attacking tactic which we all would love to see. just need pacey wing backs to pull it off.

I am not worried about the new season starting with current results in pre season. yes it would be nice to go out and win all the games we play but the main objective is to try new players, blood the youth players and build up match fitness (BMD has ticked all these boxes)

Come on Leeds, let's show what we are about and have a season to remember MOT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally I think we should take a chance on this guy:
Billy Mckay
Banging the goals in for arbroath and can do a job in the champ.
Might be a lower standard but who says he can't take the step up? Beckford did from non league, le fondre did from rotherham.
Scored 5 goals today.
Has a fair bit of pace and looks like he can create things too, young, hungry. think he would relish the chance to play for leeds
I know we need defenders and wingers but I can't see this giy being expensive.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Plenty of cheap unknown strikers who score a lot in lower leagues. 90% dnt make it so unlikely

Agree0 Disagree0

Billy McKay plays for Scottish Premier League side Inverness Caledonian Thistle NOT Arbroath he scores 5 AGAINST them in a pre season friendly!

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't call the Scottish premier league lower league standard. This guy is the out and out striker we need. 27 goals in 46 games
Gary hooper scored 4 more goals in 5 more games. I think billy McKay would be a fantastic signing. He has a lot of potential and is currently in great form. I hope brian has seen this guy he would bang in the goals to get us up. He seems relatively unknown and according to transfermarket he's only worth 500,000 we could easily afford that. He is one for our present in the championship and one for our future in the premier league. GFH would be willing to pay out because he's young just like murphy

Agree0 Disagree0

Well done billy for comming on here promoting yourself but Brian is also a top scout so if he wanted you he would have contacted you by now.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you research the guy you will see he has potential. He could be as good as Gary hooper now let alone in the future. I had never heard of him until seeing the first post. I did my research and he is one of the best in Scotland. He is actually better than hooper. Hooper plays for a team where he gets service at his feet 100% of the time. Billy would have to work for his goals playing for a mediocre side

we should keep varney but get out tonge, brown hall etc. need a solid defender whos consistent matt mills?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lol that's 1 thing matt mills has never been, also did you even see all 3 varney goals? 2 errors from there gk and the other a pen, varney out he's useless as always

Agree0 Disagree0

Sick of hearing fans like the first reply moan at everything at the end of day a goal is a goal it doesn't matter how they go in

Agree0 Disagree0

Varneys first goal was a decent header

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah it does matter, varney is terrible and will only drag us down like he has done with every club he's played 4. varney out he's our 3rd worst player we have!

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop slating and start supporting you sound like another one of these moaners that are never happy

Agree0 Disagree0

Varney isn't terrible. He can play well. He is just inconsistent. I would happily have him as a sub. We do need to offload some dead weight, however BMcD is not the Messiah and cannot work miracles. He has inherited an ordinary set of players from NW and it will take time for him to set his own stamp on the team. I give him this year to gel the team to his style. Get rid of some more old boys. Pick up a few more decent lads and start our push in earnest from next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

What has Varney done that is so terribly wrong? When played in a decent position last season he played as well as anyone. True, he had a couple of bad games early on but after that I thought he did ok and more often than not when he played was as good as, if not better than anyone else out there. When there are persons on his back from the beginning it will never be easy for him but if he stays then give him a chance
