Having just seen Town want 2 million plus for Adam Clayton, did'nt we replace him with tongue, brown, green, Norris, Austin, total value - not a lot.

Like most people on here voicing an air of concern about the imminent season start following the rather disappointing loss at mansfield, i'd like to chip in with some other considerations. 1st there has been a major squad overhaul with a lot of dis-interested journeymen been given the boot. And rightly so I'm sure most will agree. Sadly I feel we still have quite a few of these types of players in the squad ( morison, norris, hunt) who will not be that bothered one way or t'other if we win or lose.
Sadly losing RMc is going to blunt our cutting edge in attack, and without a similar quality replacement I do fear a little for our season. morison/hunt do not have it in them to step up.
I am a little concerned about the appointment of hock at this level, although I do support his belief in basic fitness being a major attribute in this league. although there does seem to be the lack of basic's which hopefully can improve.
Dont blame viviani for stalling after the dismal performance against mansfield.

I'm so trying to keep an openind about Hockaday and Lewis, probably like a lot of fans I was surprised and bit dissappointed at his appointment. I'm not interested in the results from pre-season games it's about fitness, new players, systems etc. I want to see him do well for the club and fans but something just doesn't fit right with me, I really want to be proved wrong . Roll on the season # MOT

Shame its nothing more than a twitter rumour but he would be great.Not sure Wenger would be too keen on a year of The Hocks tactical masterclasses though

Think Shockerdave in over his head but due to my respect for MC I'm as behind him as I can be but like us all see no signs he's up to the job. I'd give Redders & Carbone the job between them tbh.
WJust how difficult would it have been to take the advice of Redders on UK players who would be worth buying. Such a simple solution instead of getting unproven foriegn players. Don't get me wrong I think Bianchi & Sylvestri look ok but Doukara quite poor.My main point being why not just ask advice from a coach already at the club who wouldn't steer us wrong when it comes to signings

He wants a coach, so even though I didn't want the hock in he comes. Now his job is to coach the players that's given to him, if what we have at the moment are the ONLY players hocks given to work with who's to blame if we have a bad start?
Hock will get the blame and the sack, he's on a lose lose situation even though he's got nothing to work with whether he's any good or not.

How many italian players can you name who are currently playing in ELP and the Championship first teams. Just to make it a fair reflection exclude Sunderland ( De Canio's madness ) and Watford ( Udinese B ) Then ask yourself why so few if signing all your players from Serie A or B is the way forward for us

There's a very good reason for that Andy. MC saved the club and has worked tirelessly to reduce the ridiculous overheads and move on some of the dead wood. He has also appointed a head coach and coaching assistant who leave me significantly underwhelmed. There are just over two weeks until we play our opening League team and our squad remains far too weak for the season ahead. Yes it could all change and hopefully Viviani will still sign and I see him as a good signing. I totally agree with you honestly I do, I'd love a David batty or a Ian Harte, Gary Kelly etc but we have to let MC succeed/fail in his plan. Whatever me or you say WONT change massimos mind, he's a stubborn guy and only listens to 2 people from what I'm told.

I really hope i'm wrong but have a bad feeling Hockaday and his assistant Junior Lewis are way out of their depth. i'm not saying this because of 1 defeat either. However, having said that, they deserve a fair crack of the whip having been appointed by MC, even though I am still unsure of what their roles actually are.
Is Cellino going to be in the dressing room on matchdays?
Does Hock have any say on transfers? I doubt it!
Why, apart from the obvious, is it primarily Italians coming in and no word of any young, or for that matter experienced, British players arriving?
And lastly. Why are most fans getting so excited by these new players having never seen them play? Youtube could make Austin look like Zidane with the odd selected clip! They might be good. I hope they are great but let's not get too carried away.
Anyway, don't mean to sound negative its just that 'on the pitch' we are miles away even if things are looking up off.

I agree it grinds my gears to see clubs doing 2 or 3 deals in a day when we can't seem to do 1 in a fortnight. didn't we just get 11 million for our best player and release a load of senior players. Dawson, Cook, Walters, Killock are not quite ready for the pressure especially when apart from blackpool every team in the league seems to be getting stronger. we need at least 2 (more like 11) proven quality players at a decent age (no more dinosaurs) why have they not reinvested the ross money yet. I will await an influx of good players impatiently because I have no choice. got to love Leeds MOT

It seems that anyone posting their doubts and fears is spreading negativity. i'm far from negative when it comes to Leeds United, just a realist because of too many past years being let down.
Heres my view. We may be just a championship side, but this is Leeds United for gods sake, how did it come to be that we put an unknown coach with no big time experience at the helm. Yes previous 'names' did nothing, but this club needs experience at the helm to attract the right players. Who are these players? The past two seasons have proved that those brought in were not up to the task of filling a Leeds shirt. It remains to be seen if the Italians are up to it, but I think they will get a real eye opener when they play at ER.
The reason for this is that for many a year the ER crowd become restless after 20/30 minutes because we are not winning. This happened as far back as the great late Don Revies team, who were a victim of their own success and if they were not winning after 20/30 minutes you could hear the disapproval around the ground. Those players had the balls and grit to ignore it. Very few in recent years have. How many players have been destroyed by the ER crowd getting on their backs and shattering their confidence? Players need to be encouraged and given time, history says that we are an impatient lot and I can't see that changing.
I think MC will get Leeds to the promised land, I don't think Hock is the man to take us there, let's hope the players we have, and will sign, can step up to the mark.
With regards to friendlies, yes they help with fitness etc, however any team Leeds United put out at Guiseley or Mansfield or any 'lower' ranked team should be taken to the cleaners, both in a football sense and physically. I don't think that happened on Saturday or Tuesday, and IMO it does matter that we got beat. This is Leeds United for ****s sake.
I am not a defeatist, pessimist or purveyor of negativity. I am a Leeds United supporter of some 44 years. I know a good player when I see one, I know shyte when I see it, I can see a difficult time ahead with changes, pretty soon, at coaching level.
I hope I am wrong and our new team, when we have it, gells and plays some superb winning football.

Does the winning 7-0 mean they will win the league this year? Pre-season games are for trying out new players and systems and we shouldn't read too much into the results.
