Thought it was Danny Mills who did not like football not Batty. Losing Dacourt to injury with no comparable replacement weakened us too much in that season, think it ended our challenge. Vinny was all commitment not in the same class as the others, would still have him now.

Bowyer not getting a mention up there with any of those if not better.

Defo Batty that didn't like football, frequently late for training, racing round on his motorbike despite it being in his contract that he shouldn't and more than once getting his solicitor involved in club disciplinary matters.

I thought Jones actually played football well when with us but then i was 6 so not overly sure, he did score three class goals though. Bowyer different class, maybe for me even better than strachan, hard call as both were amazing but maybe bowyer shades it. don't think jones batty or dacourt can be mentioned in same breath as bowyer. how did he not play for england?

26 Sep 2018 22:46:02
I think Sven took Bowyer into the squad, but never took him back because his attitude stank. Strachan and Dacourt had more class in their little toes than Bow. As people, and players.

Jones was all heart and gave his all. Made up for not being the most talented in the world with sheer guts and gave 100% every game. A real team player. Would love to have them that sort of player these days for sure.

Totally Alf! And Wilko got him playing his best football, and rated him as a player, plus he united the dressing room.

Bowyer played once for England and set up a goal for Alan Smith against Portugal.

Bowyer played once for England and crossed for a Smith goal I seem to remember.

Batty the best of the lot for me. Bowyer as good possibly. Strachan Dacourt not so. Vinny did attempt to play football and did a half decent job too towards the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Sep 2018 10:49:22
i can see what you say about bowyer attitude but i have to say i think he was class and could do everything his return in goals and assists must be up their with the best per minute played?

I this the big question here is, "do we all still dream of a team of Michael Browns?! "

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Sep 2018 13:35:25
Now here this. Warnock was a twit. Still is.
But brown was the only player in that crap squad that played 100% every game. Ok his ability lacked a bit and his timing was out on the odd tackle. But I’d have him on the bench as a play breaker any day.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Sep 2018 16:30:11
again contraversial but i like warnock, with the players we sold and budget we had he had no chance and did wonders to keep us up. Brown was a little passed it but still had qualiies, brown in his prime would walk into this team i would imagine.

Batty was never big on "side before self" so, for me, puts himself well down the list. Bowyer, fabulous player, but as a person? no no no. Michael Brown was Mr 100% a team full of his attitude, yes please. Vinnie was brilliant, Wilko brought him in to sort out a bit of unrest and he broke a few noses for him. Dacourt was my fave (after King Billy) he oozed class but could still put the boot in when needed. I think I have now reached the end of my little midfield essay phew.

Strange comment Al as i always had batty down as a proper team player. Do you know something we don’t?

See above Corky, re late for training, motorcycle etc. Plus remember him missing a penalty for England, the others were distraught, Batty? couldn't give a toss.

Thanks for the nice comments on the under 23s! I'm in Yorkshire house hunting so plenty of time on my hands.

So Bielsa is being Bielsa and sticking with the same team for Friday! At the same time he has really talked up Forshaw but implying that he is not quite fully back to match fitness. He has very high standards for the returning players.

So another chance for BPF, Alioski and whisper it very carefully not to reach sarf London, KP! Obviously feels that this group deserve the chance to hit back, thoughts?

If it wasn't for injuries we'd still be starting with the same 11 from the first game so no surprises really :)

did someone say KP? personally I would of made changes but Mb sees them every day and guess knows a bit about football so has to be trusted, I do think performances have to pick up from last two saturdays as yorkshire derbies are always hard.

Can I have a moan about the Leeds United website?
After all this time they still have no photos up for Shaughnessy, Shackleton and Brown. Even in the old days you would have got your pics back from the lab by now. Furthermore there is no mention whatsoever of the U23s (or even the U18s) For a media connected team tis media is looking a bit amateurish.

Can I have a moan about the poster that said Dacourt was better than batty. I was in Hong Kong and was too busy to respond.
Batty was the best I seen live. Absolute brill player. So what if he didn’t like football. He was brill defender. Brill short passer to forwards. Bremner maybe better. But no others. And the two best goals. Running down the right wing and slamming it in and a Beckham style half way line lob. Done.

i hate our website, nearly as bad as LUTV which I get every year under promises it will be better and never is. The content is so poor i use Spanish for under 23s as he is far more useful and newsnow for everything else.

Aus hong kong hey? global jet setter! Batty was great at his job and I would have him in this team (and any team maybe apart from Revie's) in a heart beat but think the comment was purely as a footballer, Dacourt was not better for the team but better with the ball. I think most may of picked up on my not rating KP but he is very good with the ball. However what batty did for the team was amazing. The fact he won it with a leeds team that shouldn't of won the league then again with blackbrun and then again with newcastle dispite their manager being mental says everything about what batty offered the team. In all honestly Kante is better and I would have Kante over Batty I honeslty can't think of many more I would pick over Batty as defensive mid, Ince maybe?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Newcastle never won a thing Berm.}

26 Sep 2018 16:38:22
Bremner MAYBE better than Batty? go and give your head a shake! ! and of course Dacourt was a better player, so was a certain Mr V. Jones :)

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Sep 2018 17:22:09
Sorry ed typo nearly won it with a 3rd team in newcastle but didn't as keegan went mental and was a useless manager. Jones was great in my first season as a leeds fan, played well and scored some amazing goals, batty was not a better player than dacourt or jones but think he offered more to the team, if he was about today he would be first name on team sheet i reckon despit not being gifted, he sniffed out danger could tackle and did the simple things well, I was young so might be wrong but don't think he got booked, sent off or gave away many fouls? I do rememebr him throwing a Sampdoria player over the adervtsiing boards in a pres season tolurment which was great.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no worries Berm, I wasn't sure if you had just forgotten. Keegan wasn't really useless, he was up against one of the best of all time and had a much smaller budget to try and match him. Not sure he went mental either, he just lost it on camera. He was back to normal afterwards, he just allowed Fergie to beat him in the mind games stakes, which is something many lost at. Keegan was just well suited to Newcastle and utterly unsuited to anywhere else, it happens. Every club is unique and you need the manager to suit the club (or country) for it to work. Keegan was perfect for Newcastle but nowhere else, though he did ok with Man City I suppose to be fair.}

Do me a favour Jones a better player than Batty?! Not on his best day ever. Unbelievable comments.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Sep 2018 21:39:00
cork i mean better as in with a ball, think jones could hit a ball and score a bealter but then he played league 2 and gap was bigger then i reckon. certainly batty was better than them all but maybe not with a ball.

Ed I really didn't rate keegan, when i say mental i mean with tactics not losing it to camera, he went through about 9 games where they needed to close up and he played with 7 winger and 3 forwards. That newcastle team should of won that year. think he was very underserving to get england job and underperformed, good motivator but tactilly about as aware as my nan.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - which is why he was perfect for Newcastle. They didn't want tactics or closing up shop, they just wanted to see their team have a go.}

26 Sep 2018 22:44:35
Newcastle were great to watch that year. I would have loved it if they had beaten Man Utd.

Jones was the better Hollywood actor apparently

Batty was immense but Brenner wins over him and Vincent hands down

Dacourt . good player but not around long enough

Bowyer was unbelievable for . one maybe two seasons at best.

Strachan was simply awesome and don’t forget, we supposedly had him when he was finished

Au contraire Fergie . au contraire

Big shout out for Tony Currie who in his pomp was one of the best and it’s a national scandal he didn’t play for England more.

According to John Helm, Sir Vincent of Jones "turned on a sixpence" to volley home against Hull in our promotion year, which I can verify having been stood in the Kop behind the goal. I think everyone love that man. I sadly even got the haircut!

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Sep 2018 15:14:42
have to be honest I prefer man utd to derby as I hate derby and they are more of a threat to us in our current position so I swerved it as we are out of the cup so to me the cup is no longer running and no one one it this year or since 1969 or when ever it was we last won it. never liked league cup since we got stuffed in final by villa and keep changing the name makes it even more mickey mouse than it was before hand.

on another note i watched a reserve match last night between wolves and lesticer. for some reason it ended in pens and ward in goal for lesctier made three amzing saves. reminded me of myself when we won the mr bightside cup in honor of my best mate from school who traigcly passed away from Bowel cancer.
