I agree with most that the squad is taking shape but I'm waiting with baited breath as to who the 3 icing on the cakes will be..only those will tell us whether we really can look forward to a proper tilt at promotion.without these and the potential loss of McCormack we have no chance...if only we could get the likes of Maynard, beck ford, mcgugan or cm smith.2 of those would be good along with McCormack staying.hes already scored 2 tonight.
This could bea great season and frankly no more than we deserve..please please get the icing ...shrew leeds

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Agree with Ronaldo Messi and Xavi we might just have a chance of going up this season.

With are iceing, we would all like to see some sprinkles on top and if its not to much to ask Sgt Warnock. We would love a big fat cherry on top. You really will be the CAKE BOSS!

Squad so far

Gk. Kenny/Ashdown
Rb. Lees/(Peltier?)
Cb. Pearce/Lees/Kisnorbo?/Crainey?
Lb. Drury/White/Pugh
DefCm. Austin/Norris/Green
Alm. White
Arm. Varney/Rogers
Acm. McCormack
St. Becchio

For me we need a Rb, Cb as Kisnorbo isn't up to it, left winger to compete with white(MaCormack could do a job there but think he will be gone) and a striker to compete with Becchio. The 'marquee' signing, assuming NW will play his favoured 4231, needs to be the playmaker in the hole like Howson was. Who would we like?

Adsy..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I would like to see us go for Boyd. Got a really good eye for goal and a smart pass. He can also play anywhere across the the attacking midfield line. He's a good player for Peterbourgh but with Leeds strong line up, could be a awesume player for us, for this level.

I would replace Snodgrass with Peter Whittingham bags of talent still young enough at 27 and imo more versatile than snodgrass.£3mill should do it.Sharky lufc

My only concern is the amount of changes we are making. Normally you would have a 'nucleus' of a team and the plug the gaps.

I am happy with what we have so far though. I think we just need a RB RW ST and sign Crainie for cover for CB and RB?

Jmo

Believable3 Unbelievable1

We have the nucleus of the Portsmouth team.

Agree2 Disagree0

My opinion is that Warnock knows that the team he inherited needed major surgery, he said so and is wealding the axe where he has to. For those that have are been not good enough thanks for your efforts and good luck at a new club, or those that think they are better than Leeds we dont want you.
Warnock is bringing in players on contracts that will do the job required to get us out of the Championship and we can only judge him and the players at the end of the season.
I think the way the team is shaping up we are gonna be hard to beat.
I havnt been back to EL since the cup game against Man U when Bates slagged fans like me, Ive supported Leeds for 42 years since 1970, enjoyed and celebrated the highs and suffered through the lows.
Warnock will do a good job and we the fans must give our support, and we will get to where we want to be.

The negatvty from some(mnorty öf) leeds fans n unbelevable. Snodgrass wanted to leave and ddnt want to be a leeds player so good rdance to hm. There s a player of equal qualty f not more who and actualy wants to play for us, oh yeah and got PACE! Robbe rodgers, he full of sklls pace and qualty fnsher/crosser and dont forget jurgen klnsman recomended hm. Varney wll do great as wll whte and mcormack f needed on the wng. ts tme to get behnd the team, a team of players who actualy want To play for leeds. And the best squad we have had snce the prem days once the 3 marquee player are added. WE ARE LEEDS, MARCHNG ON TOGETHER(apparently) Tommo.lufc.84

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Well put Tommo. I see a star in the making in Robbie Roggers, this is his time to shine, with a good pre season under his belt.
Don't forget this is just 3/4 of the team so far. With only 3 goals against and 17 forward. There are bigger games to come in pre season but theres still a 1/4 of the team to come.
I've never felt so comfident about a season, as i do about this one. We will go all the way this season.

So another difficult summer for us Leeds fans. Some good news, some bads news but if Bates leaves I will be one happy man. Pearce, Austin, Kenny all good signings and I think Varney and Green might be very useful. We desperately need those marquee signings now due to the slight lack of flair in the squad. Much more pace and energy in the squad overall now (shame we lost Clayts though - everyone knew Snoddy was off but we can get 2 proper players with that 3million) Hoping Rogers and a few young boys (Poleon, Byram, Payne,Thompson) might come through too this season. I would love Beckford back personally but I think we will get 2 of Campbell, Maynard or CMS. McCormack will probably leave as wont sign new contract. ps Is this takeover gonna happen before the season starts!!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

27 Jul 2012 19:01:27
so rumour has it we are going to sign 2 young hungry players and rumour of Templeton along with Austin, Austin could turn out to be a good signing if the rumours of his ability are true, but in my opinion signing lots of young players is not the way to go, our midfield had Snodgrass Howson Johnson Gradel all young players and we didn't get promotion and they all play at a higher level now while we sit in the championship, so if we could get 8 young players with potential (cos there easy to find lol) and then finish lets say playoffs and fail to go up lower level premiership clubs like Norwich will come sniffing at them and they will get there heads turned again, my opinion is let Neil get in the experience needed for a good battle keeping things tight at the back and with a little luck we can get promotion and then bring in some young talent with the experience to keep us there.

We got these players from the second leakest team in the division, last season. So whats your point?
mot4life

Agree1 Disagree1

I'm not fussed by getting the ex pompy lads good enough signings, just because they went down does not mean that the players are shoddy it just shows that when morale is low and things you cannot control off the field effect your game, just look at the players we had in our last prem season, all good enough to keep us up but just didn't happen, so get over the fact that they are from a relegated team

This is a question for all the Ed's and financial whiz kids.
If there is a £6M cap on funds for transfers is this over and above what is spent if money is used from the sale of players? I.e. if a player is sold for £1m and one is purchased for £1m is there still £6m transfer pot available or is the £1m spent classed as part of that £6m?

I know it seems a dumb question but I'd just like confirmation because if the £6m is over and above then by simple maths (and I do mean simple) NW has about £6m* to spend on his marquee signings! As his signings to date appear to be self financing- one in one out!

(* of course there needs to be £6m available but that shouldn't be out of reach of our new owners.)

Also if we have £6m to spend who does everybody think would make great marquee signings?

docsmith MOT {Ed013's Note - 6 million is the sum that a chairman/owner can put in. Any player transfers, ie profit, can be added}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

There is, in practice, no spending limit since the rules are about spending within your means. If the club makes huge profits you can spend them as you see fit. There are plenty of ways of 'inventing' profit through sponsorship for example. A wealthy owner can simply get their company to sponsor the ground - take a look at the blue half of Manchester as an example. All that money is then available for player spending. The 6m limit is easily worked around if the club's owner has the money and the will to do it. Once that loophole gets closed, clever accountants will simply find another one.

Agree4 Disagree0

So far in all the transfer activity I reckon we have made a profit of 3 million from the Snodgrass sale so that leaves us with closer to £9 million. If we spend £3 million I will be very shocker, no chance of spending £9 million unless takeover happens next week which could happen I suppose (fingers, toes crossed)

Agree0 Disagree1

I could be wrong but is it not 6m total overspend i.e wages transfer fee's,businesss running costs rents etc etc.against any income the club recieve's i.e sponser's, ticket sales, shop sales etc etc

beckford is alot diffrent to the snodgrass situation leeds was going nowere when beckford left leeds are about to be taken over snodgrass has had his head turned by them two sh-t heads howson and johnson warnock is right

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Knowing Johnny personally I think your call of sh!t head is way off the mark. He was sold by the club who sell everyone who is of value. He took his chance in the prem because he was forced out so get of his back you sad loser. I'll bet you cheered him like the rest of us when he was giving his all for the club he's been at since 8 years of age.

Agree2 Disagree5

He did do well for us Howson but i feel he cares nothing for Leeds at this time. Him and Johnson will of had some input into Snoddy leaveing. All they want now is for Norwich to be successfull and stay in the prem.

Just read an article by Adam Walker on weallloveleeds. Personally I thought it was out of touch and a feeble opinion. I am more than happy with the transfer dealings. His point about losing playmaker Clayton is invalid because in the Championship you don't have to make wonder passes you just gotta control a midfield and allow the wide men and strikers to do their thing. Clayton wasn't exactly Zidane anyhow. I think Walker will only garner a very small minority of fans for that writing effort.

GYW

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I'm not being negative but I think there are also many people on here who are being mindlessly optimistic. Let's see how the team gels before we get carried away with the new signings. It might work, it might take a season to gel, it might not work at all. What matters is that we all get behind the team from the beginning and give them the best possible chance.

From Gary Cooper LUST Chairman "our contact with the buyers has told us that as far as they're concerned everything's done at their end. The deal's agreed, the money's there, as far as they're concerned all the paperwork's in place it's just a question now of signing it and we honestly don't know what is holding this up." On
Yorkshire Radio. Added to this Adam Pope BBC Leeds is now reporting that he believes the Bahrain Sheik Khalifa is merely an advisor for a group of Middle East advisors from an Offshore Bahrain bank?? Has the deal been done? If not why not? And who are they?

I imagine KB will take the Snoddy money to Monaco with him in the next couple of weeks, im not sure how much we have made in player sales through the KB era or how much we have spent but i know its worlds apart. Hopefully someone can work that out on a reply. Anyway if thats the last money he takes thats fine as long as he goes. Hopefully the new owners will have ambition. Also i expect a few more players to come in and i think NW will be working hard until the end of August. We defo need Maynard in a leeds shirt tho. Mot. Vinny.

Believable3 Unbelievable6

We will never know how much Leeds have made from transfers in the KB era, UNDISCLOSED
Excroggywhite

Agree2 Disagree0

Undisclosed fees are a myth. By law they have to be disclosed in the company's accounts. We just have to wait a year or two to find out.

Sales under Grayson made 11 million profit. Does make you wonder whether he'd have done better if he'd been allowed to spend it - his dealings at Udders look a bit better than some might have expected.

I reckon it looks about even for Warnock so far. I guess the club may be 2-3 mill in profit by the time McCormack goes. Bates will be gone before we find out I suspect.

Everybody moaning at Snoddy for leaving and not been 100% Leeds but the same people want Beckford back?
Beckford left because he wanted to and didnt think about Leeds once!!

Believable5 Unbelievable8

Beckford left as he had no contract simple as .

Agree7 Disagree3

And were also close to a takeover now so clearly different

Agree3 Disagree0

Beckford was older and knew it was time to try and make the move to the prem. Snodgrass isn't that old, and unlike beckford won't lose pace when he starts to get older as he doesn't have any. Beckford could have made it there aswell if it wasn't for Everton thinking about the large profit (£3m for a player they signed for free). 10 goals in prem is a good tally for a first season, him and becchio could be a good in this and the next league

Agree5 Disagree0

He had plenty of chances to sign a contract.

Agree2 Disagree3

He had no contract because he wouldn't sign one with us because he thought he was bigger than the club he was a good servant for us and thts what he should stay as a ex player how many of you would welcome snoddy back in a few years time

Agree3 Disagree4

He stayed and helped us get promoted, and he loves leeds, snodgrass could've stayed and helped us get promoted but didnt ,there is a difference

Agree2 Disagree1

27 Jul 2012 15:01:51
My theory is this: The takeover is all but complete, as players are being offered much improved contracts. But Neil is selling current players to fund the initial squad improvements, until the end of the transfer window when the takeover will be announced. This will give us a solid base to build on without going into the 6 million investment limit, which can be saved for new year improvements.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I think the boy needs to hit a gym (and hard) before he can really show us what he can do, yes, he looks quick with an eye for goal, however so does Aidy white, but I would not say either is physical enough just yet; coming up against a solid full back they will just be bullied off the ball.

(eg. White (LB) vs Puncheon (RM) at St. Mary's the season before last. Puncheon just swept little White away every time with pure strength.

Fingers crossed (as we have yet to see a lot of Rogers yet) that he has a bit more technical ability that White however, and is a little less unlucky with injuries than last season. I think he's defo one to watch

Been a Leeds supporter for over 40 years. First time post.... I for one am glad to see an influx of so many new players into the team. We obviously couldn't hack it last season...or the season before that.... We shouldn't be surprised that players such as Snodgrass get their heads turned by the opportunity to play in the EPL...after all who wouldn't? The players these days are not the same as when the Bremners, Charltons, Lorimers & Hunters. (yes I know I have missed lots of players)...of this world used to play...it's just fact. But it looks as though NW is pulling together an excellent team for the new season...I, for one, am very excited about the forthcoming season...as I am at the beginning of every season....EPL here we come! And in all honesty...I support Leeds...not the individuals who make up the team...remember there is no "I" in team....If Joey Barton (UGH!) would pull on a Leeds shirt...I would still support the team. As for the takeover...if it happens it happens... I definitely am no Bates supporter...but he did save the team from a worse fate than playing in League 1.... I hope (and pray) that the "consortium" from the middle east hurry up and take over the team so that we can all move forward...and upward...cos the anticipation is killing me. But I still tip my hat to Bates...may he move forward and buy some other team and right their sinking ship. English football is the best on the planet (IMO) and Leeds deserves to be playing with the big boys again...which several years ago I was concerned that it would ever happen again...but here we are on the brink of a new day....so kudos to all involved...and my thanks to Grayson, Wise, Poyet et al too....they were all good men...but not of the calibre of NW....so GO LEEDS!! MOT...we will soon again be in Europe....and winning many accolades....

in the YEP warnock says that varney is snoddy's replacement. i think this is him covering up for the fact that he doesn't have enough money to get a quality winger and a 20 goal striker and has opted for the striker so using varney as a winger. but with warnock trying to keep snoddy and wanting to get varney he will of wantd him to play on the other wing or as asub striker not snoddy's replacement. i think it will be white to step onto snodd'ys shoes until january when neil realises we lack creativity and goes for a quality winger to replace snoddy. not forgetting we still haven't replaced gradel. but i'm backing neil to succeed, mot

we have signed 4 players from a club that got relegated. rodolph austin is the most exciting signing for the fans and he's a defensive midfielder. the icing for this cake of ours is gonna have to be covered in sprinkles and have chocolate sauce if we want to challenge for promotion.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

What you fail to realise is that Portsmouth only got relegated because they were deducted 10 points for going into administration the actual fact is that these players would have saved Portsmouth if that had not been the case, they come to us as a group of players that have already been through adversity with there previous club and still come out with there heads held high, pearce was club captain and player of the year more than once a good addition to any squad Varney is a better player than people give him credit for o.k. only six goals last season in a team that struggled expect him to double that this season, Norris a good solid experienced player capable of leading and holding together a midfield not afraid of a challenge and capable of scoring goals himself, I would also go back for Halford a good quality right back more experienced than pelter and heck of a lot cheaper, Jamie Ashdown again a good experienced GK with premier games under his belt a damn sight better than any one we have let go an excellent back up for Kenny, all in all these players will give us fight and bight, and add experience and quality to our team, they have been there done it and saw the video a good blend of players that will not let you down to often. Why should we not take advantage of another teams misfortune by bringing in these players cheaper than they would have been if Portsmouth had of survived makes sense to me.

If we did get £3million from Snoddy then surely we spend £1million on a winger to replace him (Templeton possibly), £1million on a striker (Maynard hopefully) and £1million on a creative midfielder (McGugan/Boyd)? {Ed001's Note - you are forgetting that Leeds will have had to make a significant payment to buy out the remainder of his contract, unless he had handed in a written transfer request. So there won't be £3m.}

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Refusing to sign the contract is a transfer request in my eyes.

I have a feeling that NW will not go for a like for like replacment for snodgrass, ie Templeton We have Varny, White and Rogers all pushing for places on the wing. I think he will will be spending the money on a quality pacy striker to play off becchio, and maybe another play maker rather than a tricky left footed winger!
Thoughts?

Personally I think that the takeover has been completed. I do not claim to know this for sure but if you think about it.........if it was announced then all these transfers would cost us more if the selling club knew we had the cash.

Maybe the announcement is being held off until all the transfers have been made ??

Snoddy this snoddy that, who care's ? He's gone, to be brutally honest he was not the standard of player we require to be back were we belong in the PL. We need Beckford back or Jordan Rhodes, Peltier or Jack Hunt, Mcgugan, Harry Maguire or Lewis Dunk, then we have a squad for a push at the title. Get rid of the transfer listed players, and bring in youth players Poleon,Gimpel,Sanchez Payne.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

I think with 3 more quality signings and the young lads in the reserves there is a really good solid squad ,good blend of youth and experience, keep up the good work Neil.Sharky lufc

Takeover or not we're starting to build a good little team here. I just hope Bates doesn't pocket all of the earnings from the Snoddy sale. As long as he gets a replacement for Snoddy, a RB and a pacey CF. Hopefully Peltier Boyd and Beckford/Mckail-Smith.Let's be honest guys that would leave us with a good team. Our main weakness for the last few years has been our leaky defence. With Pearce at the heart of it now that will sure us up massively. I for one am positive whether we have an investor come in or not. What do you think Ed + everyone?

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Would prefer Halford at RB, Dobbie or Whittingham (I wish) MF, and Mackie CF
Depends if we get takeover money

but also he quotes hes after a striker.i resume a striker is just one so looks like good chance mccormack is staying.personally id like to see 2 come in but as long as its a top striker they may be enough...so beckford or maynard?
either for me to be honest...shrew leeds

If it is true that warnock said he is looking for a pair like Boyd and beckford then I am looking forward to seeing who he signs.

Like most Leeds fans I would love to see beckford back, but his wages would be a huge stumbling block for us. I just can't see it happening.

If we managed to sign George Boyd that would be a great signing. He's great on the ball with both feet, creates loads and can score. I'd love to get him comfortable on the right Wong so he can come inside a slot them in with his left like snoddy did. I believe boyd would be an adequate replacement and wouldn't cost too much.

Anybody feeling this line-up

Rb-Peltier
Cb-Kisnorbo

Cdm-Austin
Lw-varney

When is the Snodgrass fee officially announced or is Bates hoping to avoid this? Or will it be yet another "undisclosed" fee? For the sale of our best player Bates might as well the truth. It won't affect other players prices we are trying to sign. Everyone knows fee is in region of 3 million and new funds are entering the club. Tell us Bates then leave.

Snoddy has Officailly gone to norwich, however he was over rated anyway and clearly didn't care about Leeds, so let's move on and bring in some players that want to play for Leeds and will wear the shirt with pride, give captaincy to Pearce now aswell

Believable2 Unbelievable1

All championship sides are potential feeder clubs for the premier league. The premier league has created a yawning disparity which is ruining football. As some old bloke once said money is the root of all evil!

Oh well Snoddy has gone. Don't know how to feel. Hopefully forthcoming signings will ease the pain and if the takeover completes soon, then Snoddy will one day realise what a mistake he has made. He (Snodgrass) obviously thinks we ain't gonna be in the Prem next season, but Snoddy my old China neither may Norwich!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Snoddy served us admirably over quite a long time and I for one would like to thank him for his services over the years. However, I cannot help but think it is a blessing in disguise. We can strengthen out squad with the money and I doubt Snodgrass would have been able to cut it in the Premiership with us unfortunately, he's just a bit on the slow side for a winger and all his tricks may not come off in the Prem against faster defenders..

Agree3 Disagree0

Snoddy is right, that's why he left.

This team will do far better than last season's feeble effort. I know that for a fact now and Warnock hasn't even finished his signings yet!

In fairness Warnock has been clever and brought some tried and tested quality to get us in the top 2 --- sometimes individual quality can't buy success, at least the pompey 3 should settle well..

Must be the same guy that repeated "we're a feeder club" three times.
Some of our supporters we could really do without.
Take a long hard look at the team matey, as solid a defence we've seen at ER in a good few years with one more there it will be extremely solid. A midfield of pure experience and typically Leeds United.
One or two more good signings and the squad is ready for a bash at the championship.
So shut up your bloody whinging, get behind the team or f**k off and support Huddersfield as obviously you're a Grayson hugger.

Robert snodgrass is not leeds united. Yes we loved him but i think his importance to the club has blown up massively due to him being by far our best player last season in a team full of average players.

We are building a solid championship squad here, all thats missing is the "excellent signings" NW talks of to give us that extra class and we will be well in with a shout next year
