I think everybody needs to take time to assess the situation and calm down a bit. We might not be doing so hot in pre-season but believe it or not, old Dave does actually know what needs fixing (described long balls getting through as ridiculous for example). We've got to stop judging him on his past and looks and actually see what he can do tactically.

He played very narrow against Chesterfield but we have no natural width, though we did try to get some out of Byram on the right. Morison on the left has been attacked massively, whereas I read in the first half Morison put a few decent tackles in to help Warnock and made a good run or two forward. As far as I can see he's done ok there, and if you think he would actually reveal who he's playing against Milwall then you're crazy.

The most pressing issue is that we need a few more players. Our biggest problem is who partners Pearce as Woottoon and Lees will never be good enough. Our second issue is wingers. We need pace and width to compete in the Championship, as well as someone to replace Morison on the left so either he or Smith can play up front and be supplied with balls into the box. Last but not least is strikers. We need goals, we need pace and we need creativity. I actually think signing Agard and Chris Wood would see us right in this area.

We won't see success overnight, but Cellino never promised that anyway. I think Hockaday is here for one or two seasons. I think he is meant to keep us up, blood some youth and get some sort of system implemented (which is why we're playing on the deck so much). Once this is complete I think Carbone will be the new coach and we'll see the investment that will push us on to promotion. We've waited 10 years, we can wait a couple more.

This is just my opinion lads. If yours is different then feel free to share it but let's keep it civilised.

Agard is 15 minutes down the road, pacey wing forward, what is the hold up?

It could be anything with Agard wages, he don't want to live in leeds, the new boss don't like him, he's already agreed to join a different team who knows mate!

Agree0 Disagree0

Kdeaco great post. I have to say I do fear for us as I think MC is doing all of the right things off the pitch, however if you believe what is being written I fear it will not work with MC choosing the players & expecting Dave H to coach them as I think that if the players don't gel then it will be Mr Hockadays fault & it is probably for this reason why MC had 35 coaches in the 20 years he was owner at Cagliari. let's hope we get some decent proven players in before the Millwall game as all we have done so far with the exception of Berardi is we have only bought players that have potential. can somebody please explain to me we need a central defender wingers and strikers why are we just signing midfeilders yet another one this time from ac milan hunts not going to score a lot as for morrison forget it he does not even want to be hear its plain as day from the pre-season so far we have not enough up front and have no width yet all we seem to sign is midfeilders we have cook dawson austin murphy biannchi mowett tongue white this guy from ac milan norris that's 10 and I could go on and mention a few more but you get the picture

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bianch and cook can play on the wing. White is a left back. Dawson is very young. So instead of 10 we probably have 6 of which 2-Norris and tonge are not up to scratch. So that leaves first team central midfielders. I'm not being negative but I hate when people slate players without knowing enough them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Peterlufc he has been playing white in a more advanced role I no bianchi can play wide right but he has not played him there I thought that was what pre-season was for all the midfeiders I have spoke about he has played in preseason that is nine trust me I no what iam speaking about

I was just wondering does anyone know or heard of a player/coach/manager getting the sack before the season even kicks off?
I wasnt at the 2 friendlies was Massimo present?

Im only asking as a little bird tells me Massimo is coming back from his holiday this week, rumblings have got back to the team that he's NOT happy with the latest performance (im assuming chesterfield could be mansfield) and all the players are ******* themselves.

If its true expect sparks flying around ER this week.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Andy
Im all for mc c doing watever is needed
We should beat teams like man and chest, all the time!
Its is clear we need additions and tactical awareness!
Im fed up with no passion and clueless performances
Time to act mc c. Swing the axe hard my man!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ausman
I don't think we have to worry about MCs axe he's sharpening it as we speak lol
According to a first team player they are all •••••••• themselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think he might want to know what the Hock was doing leaving all his new signings on the bench having already stated the starting line up was our best team. Not saying the Hocks judgement was incorrect but guess the birthday boy won't be happy

Is the hock bright enough to make millwall think that was our strongest team?

I was going to say that I will be slated for this post but actually I don't think I will.

We have managed to get rid of some of the 'dead wood' and free up at least a bit of money for wages.

Cellino has said there was money available for players without the Ross money.

We have pulled half a dozen new players into the team.

The new goalkeeper has now conceded 4 goals from poor opposition? I thought Kenny was bad enough?

We are relying on Austin to score from penalties?

Vivaldi (sic) has seen us play and doesn't want to join (hardly surprising?)

I was feeling slightly optimistic about this season but I would imagine Millwall are looking forward to putting a lot of goals past us.

Hockaday is totally out of his depth here, and I have now come to agree with the 'doomsters' that pushed this up earlier.

We need a 'leader' in charge of coaching, not a dead loss.

I hate to say this but I can see us down in the bottom half of the league from day one with this guy and this goalkeeper.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Leeds
I wasnt at the games so I only know what I read in the reports, most reports seemed to praise the keeper but said he would have been dissapointed not to get to chesterfirelds first goal.

As for the coach I think we all know where that's going to lead.

27 Jul 2014 19:45:42
From what i've seen and heard Silvestre has been good , Austin 2 from 2 , wheres the problem!

Agree0 Disagree0

We have a coach that has won, well nothing really, spent the best part of his managerial career keeping F G in the conference( one season on a technicality, should have been relegated.) Going forward from last season, well actually we seem to be going backwards, No Captain, No Pace, Nobody who can score 20+ goals, defensively still poor(on Hockadays own admittance ) I can foresee a tough season ahead, on a plus we still have the best supporters in the country, I hope we sign 2 or 3 quality players soon to give us hope, see you all Aug 16th.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well that's cheered me up

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think the keepers at fault. just nothing in front of him. no defence. no team. no coach. when I heard of hocks days appointment I thought it was a joke. now I realise it is.this can't go on we need to get rid now.and don't say we're all doom and gloom. we're just really worried supporters. mc is a single minded bloke but he has to see this will never work". give the team a chance. a coach to respect and play for.I dread our 1st home game it could be a bloodbath for hockaday. 20000 fans calling for your head is not like 3 men and a dog he's used to. do the right thing mr Cellini and do it now before everything. Gets really messy

Agree0 Disagree0

Cellino as massively underestimated the quality of this league, Hockaday is well out of his depth at a club with the stature of Leeds, he may have sorted out some financial mess but the most important appointment to get right as got to be the coach/manager, put Leeds on a snakes and ladder board and you can guarantee we'll land on a snakes head.

Agree0 Disagree0

Silvestri kept the score from being embarrassing. Coulda easily been 2-3 down at HT

Agree0 Disagree0

Kly
Only my thought but ere goes.
If MC had set Carbone on as coach when he sacked BMD he was in for a possible backlash as before. So he sets a nobody on who will cost peanuts to fire and then Benito is put in temporary charge while we search for a replacement. Carbone plays decent football and he gets the job permanently no backlash from fans.
What you think!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Andy you could well be right, I know one thing in over 40 years following Leeds this is the first time I've missed the opening season taking my lady on a well earned cruise not back till the end of September, what changes I come back to who knows but will always wear my Leeds shirt and shorts with pride. keep the faith Andy Leeds will come good again

We've failed to land a number of centre halves and we must be reaching the bottom of the list. Probably time for Lees to move on so we'll be looking for two I think. Cellino has called Viviani's bluff - with Cook and Bianchi available perhaps the midfield is not the priority. With White injured and Warnock always looking if he's going to be, another full back urgent. And then there's the strikers! I'm pretty sure it will get sorted but I'm feeling we need a Director of Football to install some confidence and direction. TWO BAD RESULTS AND HOCKADAY WILL BE BLOWN.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Jul 2014 20:50:58
hockaday blown it well let's be honest he shouldn't be there that's why mccomack left

Agree0 Disagree0

Mccormack was sold in Jan for £2mill to Cardiff. MC stopped the move, Ross wanted out well before hock came in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cook?! Things are bad when people are hoping a 17 year old is going to be our midfield general!
Its strange but true. since our last promotion the team has gone backwards every season and looks like this trend is going to continue.

Agree0 Disagree0

Get it in your head McCormack left because he's a typical greedy footballer, nothing to do with Hock . He tried to leave in Jan, never heard of Hock then .

27 Jul 2014 14:13:08
The one thing I don't get about Cellino is that he said Festa and Carbone were not experienced enough to coach such a big club but then gives it to Hockaday? It may be a case of giving the job to a random Joe until Carbone builds his knowledge of English coaching but then why not hand it to Gibbs. I think he is only hanging on to Gibbs until McD gets another job and he can then charge compensation anyway.

27 Jul 2014 13:59:22
Definitely a nippy winger that we need a great finisher who would work well with Smith I would also get agard as he wants to come but they are not Italian come on mc get finger out and make it happen please

Agree0 Disagree0

So we don't need defenders then. Stick with the one's that had 61 goals put past them.

Seriously guys, I read all posts on this site but have never actually registered until now. After reading some posts this morning I couldn't take anymore. Where I can understand some concerns about the current squad, jeez give cellinio a chance. Things are not going to happen over night. This is a work in progress and for those who think we will be challenging for next season forget it now. For the first time in years we actually have someone that cares about Leeds united. Yeah time might tell and might have to eat my words but we have to give it time. Let's get behind him and the squad. Now I don't particularly like Morrison but booing at a match is bang out order. This negative affect will rub off onto all the players. Let's see what happens in the next few weeks and let's get behind our team and stop all this negativity. Just remember the chairman we have had in the past I wouldn't swap cellinio for them any day of the week. In cellinio we must trust. MOT

Why else would they be anti-massimo!

It's going to be a rollercoaster ride, but I think there will be some ups as well as downs - which will make a pleasant change. Do people seriously think MC doesn't realise we need a new striker (or two). OK, time is getting close, but I'm sure it will happen. And I say again if the Viviani move does happen, that will be VERY significant

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post JohnD. Massimo is eccentric but seems to have the club's best interests at heart. i'd rather him than Bates/GFH.
He knows the current squad is lacking and I believe he will bring in more signings very soon.
It's no good slating Hockaday or the players, we should be giving them encouragement. Rome wasn't built in a day, it will take time for a new squad to gel.
Friendly results are meaningless. We must March on Together but I know if we make a poor star to the season, the moaners will get on the players' backs and call for a change of coach.
For the first time in years I'm optimistic about the club's future. Hope I'm proved right. MOT Speedo4Eva.

Agree0 Disagree0

Us Leeds fans have put up with too much over the last 12 years.
We expect too much from our players, they have not been good enough, thru a mixture of bad owners, managers & bad players.
It's not going to happen overnight.
Let's give MC, hocks & all of the players the support they need & get behind them.
Come on we're LUFC
MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Johnd and welcome to site, however I don't agree with your post. It's concerning we can not overcome opposition of lower status, no disrespect to Mansfield or Chesterfield as they will have upped their game. Our team has been back in training long enough now and performances and results should be better.
Why have so many players declined to join our squad is another issue I have. I appreciate. MCs efforts and achievements so far but we really do need some quality additions before deadline day or I can see us in relegation dogfight.
I'm positive MC is aware of this and I have faith in his long-term vision.
This is not another negative post it is a realistic opinion of what our current situation is. I don't expect a result against Swindon but hope I am wrong, if we get beat and so done tells me we played them off the park in defeat then I can deal with that but we are not exactly cooking on gas.

Cellino seems to be very good at business deals etc, but so far clueless on building a competitive team for The Championship.

I wonder if Micah Richards is interested in a return to LUFC? Come on Cellino. Splash the cash. Shouldn't cost more than 2.5 million transfer fee and 25k a week wages.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it'll be a good while until Leeds start paying that kind of money and unfortunately there lies the problem. Players want guaranteed money, not a reduced basic with performance bonuses. Great idea but todays greedy *******s want big money. Majority of them don't warrant it so we are going to get bargain basement buys and another season of heartache.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really can't imagine Richards being on 25k a week and I'm sure that there are multiple premiership clubs that would take him.

I was feeling fairly confident, but hockaday said he was going to use our 1st team squad and if that squad need 2 pens to scrape a draw with Chesterfield. we may have some problems, I agree with cellinos new wage ideas but it won't work for the high quality players that we desperately need

No point selling our best players. We have the money but nobody with any real quality wants to come. I was happy when we got the cash for McCormack now I am not so sure. Its one thing wanting to invest in players its completely another being able to.

The best way to look at it is collect £11mill or keep a player who does NOT want to stay and play for your club!!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 22:58:17
Probably going to make myself unpopular for this point of view, but I am not totally happy with the start Cellino has made. I validate this view due to the following; restructuring the debt with GFH was shrewd but he had them over a barrell due to how they had mismanaged the club; Getting rid of the deadwood is true but the majority of the deadwood were out of contract, the only two players he moved on are Peltier (a fee could have been sought) and McCormack for a large fee. The club has signed 1 freebie, 1 loaned and 2 players on the cheap. It is a concern that Cellino brought in Hockaday to improve what we have got suggesting that the squad is strong enough to compete in the league. Still time to strengthen the squad but I would have expected an increase in activity after the Mansfield game, as it was Viviani slipped through the net with Cellino not in the country to the up the deal. Forgive me if I yet to praise Cellino as a god however although he has done what others could or should have previously done I personally think the action taken were obvious to all supporters. It is now time to cut the BS in regates to player recruitment and strengthen as to where we require it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Jul 2014 06:26:28
Your post a bit out of order Notts. Cellino is doing well. If Viviani had signed we all would have been pleased with transfer progress. What's happened is 2 dodgy results causing the Hock to come under scrutiny. I still say club in better shape for Cellino and the Hock will grow into the job. There's obviously going to be a learning curve for him. Best thing to do is make a difference as fans and get behind the club. With just 3 or 4 excrllent recruits we can be up there but we do need a class center half, a winger with real pace and goals in him and a striker who scores for fun.

Agree0 Disagree0

George, love the positivity however it is important not to go to far and turn that into blind faith. Suggesting that we need quality recruitments in key positions is correct, but how will your view change if they don't materialise? Remember the Hockaday said this will likely be the starting line up for millwall, do you think it is good enough? If not then I might not be as out of order as you suggest.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only person who is out of order is you George. Football is all about opinions & people should be allowed to share there's without the fear of others criticising them just because they have a different opinion to yours or others. That is what makes football a great sport. MOT

Thanks Notts. Here's my 2 pencr. I think most Leeds fans have cottoned on to fact that Hockey is Cellino's tool, a yes man. He will say politically correct things to motivate team and underperformers which at this rate is the team. Cellino in charge and is trying to get the recruits we need. Point is don't pay attention to the manager - there is none, well its Cellino - listen to him. Wouldn't put it past him to succeed with reverse psychology and pull Viviani deal out of bag and sign some marquees in next few weeks. If he fails it won't be for lack of trying and it wilk only be a fail until January when he will try again. At least LUFC will soon own its own ground. Here is the more interesting issue. Will Hockey still be coach by Xmas? By Easter? Ed, do a poll. I say he lasts the whole season to be replaced by a big name next season once we have better playing personnel, just my 2 pence.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suprised if he is there by end of October to be replaced by Carbonne, who is getting the U21 to play good football.
