If I owned Leeds I would see this year as a year of consolidation, one needs to be reminded, what Cellinoas done, he as bought this club from GFH, with enormous debt and legal problems, he has sold his old club, emigrating his family, negotiating the purchase of Elland rd, plans in progress to build another Thorpe Arch, sell and buy players, make extensive redundancies, rebuild the backroom staff, to coach, several court cases in Italy, winding up orders by Sports direct and Enterprises. Nightmare of a 6 months plan but very productive, assess him at the end of the second season. In my humble opinion he as worked miracles

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post buddy, things may take a little time, but we needed to change things and that is what `s happening.
I for one think Cellino is the right man at the right time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Excellent post Hongkong!

Agree0 Disagree0

Omg finally someone with some sense great post list goes on and on what Cellino has done!
But again as they say you can please some of the fans some of the time but you can't please all the fans all of the time!
joys of being a Leeds supporter!
MOT!

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on. He has been in legal control for only a few months. What he has achieved in that short time is incredible.

Agree0 Disagree0

What are we doing with the Ross 11meg?

Ether which way we'll just suffer with it. even if we go down.

That's what we do. we are Leeds.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post Hong Kong.
IMHO Hock is his biggest gamble, an untried coach at this level, but he must have impressed MC during interviews and conversations or he wouldn't have chosen him . I don't buy into the idea it was because he's cheap, he will cost money if we have to pay him off . My take is that he has bought into MC's thoughts on how a team should play and MC is prepared to give him a chance . I would guess that Hock knows what's coming if things don't go to plan.
MC has more than earned our trust up to now and has spent lots of his own money to turn our club around . I am prepared to wait and see as far as the Hock is concerned . let's be brutally honest and say " he couldn't do worse than what we have had over the last few years " A few bad results at the start against Milwall, Boro and Brighton might change my mind though. lol MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes agreed that Cellino done a very good job OFF the field (business side) but now is the time to build ON the field. I for one think he's made a massive mistake/risk in hiring Hocaday and feel there would be 10x more positivity in Leeds fans if he'd of hired and more crediable head coach for our mighty club.

Now this might sound strange but leeds is not just about the football otherwise I would have quit a good few years ago! It's about the atmosphere, the banter, the chants and that is ultimately the fans! I think back to games like Southampton - 3-0 down and still giving it to their fans for being the quietist on the planet! Clearly we won in an awesome 4 goal come back which made the trip even better! Wembley play off against Donny - leeds fans in Donny end - priceless! (rubbish performance on the pitch that day!) But hat off to one and all - let's get in there and raise every roof and make sure our reputation stands as we stand tall right behind our team MOT

I know people are worrying about the possibility of going down but knowing that Blackpool are already occupying a relegation spot definitely shortens our odds :) plus doukara is going to get 20 goals and 10 assists ;) stay positive lads were getting to the playoffs :D

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed003's Note - Oi! Leave us out of this - we are just planning to be underdogs again ;-) .}

I for one will be happy if we go through the season never being in danger of relegation. Top 10 above will do nicely for me

Agree0 Disagree0

Having lived 11 years of cr@p . I'm sorry. but we deserve more than mid table Championship.

At leasts give us something to make us believe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Toronto
2-3 yr plan buddy, if we went up this season we would be straight back down.
Be patient

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh and Andy: I imagine we would go straight back down but come on, think of the feeling of just one season back in the prem, it can't exactly do us damage either with cellino in charge with the parachute payments and his business sense we would only become stronger from there

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is going up and coming straight back down something to be avoided? It would be disappointing but that scenario would put around £45 million in to the LUFC coffers over four years (Prem payments plus 3 years parachute payments).
All hyperthetical really, we've got zero chance of promotion this season (or next probably).

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha sorry ED I do imagine you will end up pulling a team together but still comical reading "Blackpool bring in two players today bringing their senior squad up to 11 players" not sure iv seen it before this close to new season! and guys I know we want a good season and I personally don't think we will be in danger of the drop just thought I'd cheer up the negative folk

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - Good luck for the season Harte}

28 Jul 2014 19:32:43
Sorry for the long post but I've been just reading for a while now and feel like I need I get something out there.

All this negativity is ridiculous. Will all these negative posters please tell me exactly why they are unhappy? We lost 1 game and drew the other, with a squad that has not yet gelled as a group. That takes time.

Our options at the end of last season were:

1. Carry on as before with a mediocre squad and rely on a select few individuals to carry the team. All the while bleeding money from every orifice.

2. Sign shedloads of well known players that other clubs don't want and ten discover why once the season starts.

3. Pay loads of money and plunge ourselves into more debt for a team of quality players who would be incapable of playing together. We are not at the top of the prem yet.

4. OR WHAT CELLINO HAS DONE
Attempt to free us from as much debt as possible. CHECK. Cash in on a player who wants to leave and provides no guarentee in order to boost out transfer kitty. CHECK. Build a support team around a good coach to lead the team. CHECK. Blood our own youth. CHECK. Give players a clean slate to prove themselves, unless they clearly suck. CHECK. Look to the league that he knows well to sign players (also cheaper then UK on the whole). CHECK. Sign a mixture of exciting young players and experienced (not journeymen) players. CHECK.

What is really annoying me is people slating the potential singing of young players from foreign leagues just because they haven't heard of them. If thy were from an English club and they had heard of them then I bet eveyone would be over the moon.

With regards to Hockaday. He is clearly a good coach who hasn't yet proved himself as a manager.
With Salerno and Cellino working signings. Carbobe working youth. Gibbs in support I think we have a good team. I just pray that people judge the team (players/staff/owner) when we have had time to settle and played some competitive games! Eveyone starts somewhere and Hockaday deserves a chance in my opinion. (I'm sure a lot people will tell me I'm wrong)

Signings so far I believe have been good. Salerno clearly knows his football as does Cellino. Granted it is very soon until the season starts but we clearly have targets and are workin hard I sign them.

Nobody has won the league yet and similarly nobody has been relegated already- although Blackpool aren't in a great state! So for god's sake get behind the team, give the new players/staff a chance and let's have a go. it's all we can do!

I want our team to do as well just as badly as eveyone else does but criticising and being negative doesn't help anyone.

Top post Peter one of the best I've seen on here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree. I think this week could be v. interesting

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post Peter you echo my sentiments entirely. It's nice to hear a voice of reason I'm fed up of people moaning before the transfer window has closed and a ball being kicked in earnest.
We should be supporting the coach and players not sticking the boot in so early in the season. My opinion only but just as valid as the naysayers. MOT Speedo4Eva

28 Jul 2014 20:36:48
Hang on there Peter! Let's have a think about this.Your critising our fans for critising the team and saying criticism is wrong? Sorry mate, have to disagree. The players, coach and owner/s ain't Leeds United! WE are Leeds United! The players, coach and owner/s come and go. The one constant of LUFC is US, the fans! They have a RIGHT to whatever opinion they want. We were all carried away to some extent on the wave of optimism when Cellino came in. Being optimistic and supportive of the team is fair and I totally accept your point. Being realistic and if we were totally honest, would we say our team iright now, is an improvement on what we had last season? Extremely doubtful my friend. I also accept it's getting to squeaky bum time as far as transfers go so things are getting a bit worrying. Fans are expressing their concerns in the way they they wish. But let's be clear! EVERY single one of them/us wants the very best for team the represents the greatest fans in the world.
Okay, rant over MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post, some people expect miracles, now we are signing players that are from pedigree champion league sides.

Agree0 Disagree0

The internet has been a gift and a curse for football fans everywhere. On the one hand it gives us a great forum to discuss the ins and outs of Leeds with like-minded people who have passion for the team and what to see them do well.

On the other hand it gives people the opinion of every Tom, Dick and Harry whilst presenting it as fact, making a lot of frustrated fans believe that everything that occurs is a negative thing.

I'm getting frustrated that Bianchi, Silvestri and Doukara aren't good enough before I've personally seen them kick a ball, and that's just because 'journalists' keep saying we lack quality. What's all that about?

First game I can get to is Dundee United, and I'm looking forward to judging the players and the coach myself, rather than having the internet do it for me.

28 Jul 2014 21:35:27
Which position would we rather be in? ours or Blackpool's-at least Cellino has us financially stable-everything else should follow on given the chance

Agree0 Disagree0

Glad you guys agree. What annoys me is nobody ever justifies their negative posts. If anyone can explain a reason for us not to get behind Hock and the team then I will happily accept that but all I ever see is people slating a bad performance.

Anyway this season will be great whatever happens because I will get to watch 11 players pull on the white shirt of my beloved club and play the game that we all love.

Gman

I agree that honestly I don't think our team is good enough for promotion as it stands. (Hope I am proved wrong) what I am saying is that it is very unfair to immediately judge a team based on a few pre season results. Yes the signings aren't quite there, but we also aren't finished yet. And at least we are in a position to make signings (a fair few) and challenge to attract top talent. I do agree that we have great fans I just think we all need to be positive.

If the team is terrible in 2/3 months I will turn around and point my finger at Cellino and Hockaday and the team.

With Arsenals £16m signing of England Under-19 defender Calum Chambers rumours are going round that Sam Byram of Leeds United will fill the gap left by Chambers at Southampton. I hope this isn't true at all but what do youguys think, could it happen?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its not as if they don't have the money. By my reckoning they just made 75 million in the last 6 weeks! Anything around 9 million we should sell my opinion.

Make that £92 million…. and given the talent they've produced, Southampton must have the best Academy in the Prem.

We're a mess with almost same team as last season minus our CF without whom we go down, yet some on here don't see this as a problem. We have only about 5-6 decent players & the rest are same rubbish as last ssn. Our defence is the same one that let in some of the easiest most comical goals I've ever seen & for all Pearces commitment he's so slow. Add that to Lees or Wooton & try to convince even a die hard fan we're going to be ok. No chance!
The almight Shockerdave is a complete joke, if that's his idea of our strongest side I'm a china man ffs. It's clear Bianchi is quality & Baradi seems good too but they can't be everywhere. Byram is a real bonus & Murphy is excellent if played in forward mid position. I just pray we get Viviani or Mowatt comes good. Austin should be cleaning boots along with Morisson esp if played as a winger. Smith getting no service and ok we've not hoofed the ball yet but wait until MW & others close our back 4 down & all this passing game will go out the window imo. Our intrepid owner wants a team of MF players with no pace or width & def no defence. If he doesn't start buying quality in the areas needed fast were in deep shite & relegated imo.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Slough, I'm assuming your glass is always half empty!

Agree0 Disagree0

I will give Cellino and Hockaday the benefit of the doubt for now. However I have said all along that Cellino will not deliver (hope I'm wrong) and that Hockaday won't last until October ( hope I'm right).

Why are we even looking at any 18yr olds. Got better here imo. When will MC get it, we need quality CBs a MF leader & replacement for Ross. Left winger wld be a bonus but buy what we need not what's going shit cheap ffs

Whilst I don't mind a few additions from abroad, I think we need some that have experience of playing in the English leagues too. I wouldn't mind someone like Agard as we are desperate for fast exciting players that know where the goal is. I think he would be a great addition and a great investment for the future. We can't keep signing all foreign players as they may take a while to gel and get used to playing in this country. I'm not very hopeful of still being in this league at the end of the season due to either Hockaday or Cellino putting off potential recruiments. Not long left before we start and got to say I'm dreading it so far.

I have gone from optomisic to a fear we are going to be hammered on a regular basis this season, I know what MC is trying to do but we are now days away from the start of the season and the squad is lacking in every area. Morrison, White are not good enough, we need a centre back, wingers and strikers. We should have a settled squad by now but we will get another couple of italian rejects or kids and that will be it. Sorry to sound so down but surley we should be in a better position than we are with the season looming. MOT

A direct quote from Dave Hockaday after Chesterfield game in his interview. "People get bogged down with formations. If you're confused, and other people are confused, then happy days" is it just me or is this guy clueless? All he cares about it 'working hard' sounds like a broken record!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's clueless and Cellino should not have put him in this position.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hockaday's comments are amateurish and smack of someone who has managed/coached at low league level for a number of years. Repeatedly telling anyone that will listen that the team put have put in a "good shift" to justify their inept performance is just as bad as BMcD. There is more to winning a game then just working hard, granted it does help to work hard and was part of the reason why we were poor last year however I think that Hockaday got te job through convincing Cellino that the squad were good enough but needed to be fitter. Sorry but I just see Hockaday as a glorified drill sargent but I will be more than happy to be proved wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

The line about going from 1 - 0 up to 2 nil down is top drawer comedy though. got to give him that.

I feel that one, just one GOOD signing now will give the club and fans a huge lift. Not sure who the player would be, a proven goal scorer or an exciting wing forward like Agard might do it. We obviously need 5/6 more signings but a good one this week will restore positivity Imo. Hopefully we can bring in 2/3 before Millwall
