An open letter to the owners of the once great Yorkshire Evening Post.

If anyone knows anyone who works at the sports desk at YEP, feel free to pass on these thoughts and any others that people may leave.

Dear YEP
It seems that in the last few years I feel like you're heading towards lazy, uninspiring, non article writing journalism and you're beginning to resemble a trashy red top rag.
The quality of the LU articles recently has dropped dramatically. Especially the one I've just read titled 'Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino named as demands grow for football corruption probe'.
If you read the headline alone, most ignorant people would interpret this as MC has been named in the 'Allardyce affair' but once you start to read into the article itsef, it's a nothing article and total headline grabbing tripe.
This and many other articles over the past few years have made me stop buying the paper and only visiting your website very infrequently.
Please could you get back to good old fashioned LU journalism like you used to do and stop writing this absolute and utter garbage?

Best regards

Lucas.

{Ed001's Note - actually Cellino has been filmed offering to sell a stake in Leeds in order to get round the 3rd party ownership rules. You might want to do some fact checking before you slag them off.}

I had a peep at the film, don't know what the rules are but offering to sell a percentage of the club with a return on the investment via buying and selling players surely can't be illegal? best ask old 'Arry :D.

this may be true, but I don't think we should believe everything we read, and also Have we ourselves seen the video? No. So I don't believe it just yet.

Ed001

What's a shame is the 3 individuals named by the Telegraph at Championship level either have played for Leeds or own Leeds! Dirty Leeds?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I never even considered that to be honest. It really is not good for the club's image though I expect this to be the first of very many to be honest.}

Oh arse, I should have done some investigative journalism myself first. The story did come out around midnight and the article I read was about 8pm last night and only mentioned MC in passing.
MC's dragging LU's name through the mud once again.

When people quote goal scoring tallies for strikers I wish they would divide out the penalties. They are heavily weighted against the goalie and the person actually may have had no hand in it being given. Just as a matter of interest how many of Wood's goals are penalties?

28 Sep 2016 20:08:19
I agree leodis.
I know there is a lot of pressure on a player when taking a penalty but I think a players goal scoring record shouldn't be how many but how many per minutes on the pitch, (excluding penalties)
I think this would be a better gauge of how good a striker really is, (in open play) .

I said last week that to many peeps on here dreaming to early about play offs! It's a long season let's just see where we end up I know woods has improve in front of goal but still missing goals from midfield etc woods isn't going to get us in play offs on his own.

Who is Woods? He left us like 8 years ago along with Taiwo.

Wood will score 25+ this season . midfield need to contribute more than that between them and 10 - 15 from defence should do nicely :)

Unlucky last night by all accounts but it underlines the need to be more clinical. we had enough chances to win the game and players are getting into the right positions but maybe they just need to calm down a bit, not get overexcited and that will help them to stick the ball in the onion bag.

Or perhaps we need to sack everyone and start again?

We have improved but I hope we haven't become a one man team. With our set of forwards we are unlikely to score more than one goal per game average. Without Jannson we are likely to concede at least one per game average. The result if Jannson doesn't play we lose or scrape a draw. We will, however, always win the odd game- even bottom of the leaguers win the odd game. The fans who read this site know what I thought about our previous centre halves (including Cooper) . They were all poor the argument of who was the best of a bad bunch is now irrelevant as three have left. Conceding goals is not just about making n obvious mistake- missing a header or tackle etc it's also about the defenders having anticipation, vision and positional sense. Without that you can concede without having to make the obvious mistake although our previous CH's did that as well. Against City a mid field mistake when its 0-0 away from home shouldn't lead to a two on one. Our set up was out or people had lost concentration. However all teams concede. We have to win when we do. We need better strikers. Even though he's has scored a few and might be our leading scorer its not enough and he is not providing enough assists. So to conclude we still need another quality centre half to back up Jansson and Bartley as Cooper isn't good enough and another quality striker. We have improved but we are worryingly short in those areas.

bit of a blow last night but lost to a decent team and bit unlucky. know wood is getting a knocking and not seen him play so might be missing loads but i'm still happy with his goal return and beat many good players to 50 goals so think he is being treated bit harsh stats wise and think he will still improve. Great to see results and seem to be playing well. happy days.

on a different note any one see my play get plugged today by Nick Hancock on the wright stuff. reviews have been mixed (some great a few really bad) but audiences are doing well and play might be going on tour in 2018 love to bring it to leeds MOT.

Most teams that win things have either a top striker or at least one goal scoring midfielder. It appears we have neither.
I'm not going to blame Wood for not scoring last night. I blame the attacking midfielders for not contributing their share of goals, (including my favourite Mowatt) who didn't even play, because successive coaches would not buy a replacement for him hoping he would start banging them in again.
I believe goal scorers are born not made as I think it is an instinctive thing. We don't seem to have anyone who fits that bill.
As Taylor and Mowatts contracts finish at the end of this season, get them sold in January and use the money to buy Jordan Rhodes.
If we don't buy a natural striker I think we may be in for another season of mid table obscurity.

Alongside Taylor and Mowatt, we have Turnbull, Diagourgo, Murphy, Grimes and Doukara all not getting games . We need to replace the above if they are not contributing or playing and bring in another C half, winger and couple of strikers.
ll players who can command a first team place then you will see us really improve.

Pearson signs Bamba then get suspended - maybe someone on the Derby board clearly saw his performances for Leeds over the past 6-12 months and thought Pearson is having a laugh.

Even though it sounds from the commentary we gave them a good game and dominated pocession at times, I had a feeling that this game would give us a good indication as to if we have what it takes to challenge for promotion unless we can improve our clinical finishing and final pass, final 3Rd decision making, we will miss out, sounds like that proved to be the case last night, Garry has to drill drill drill on the training pitch until it becomes clockwork, was hopeful of at least a draw last night, we now must win on Saturday if we are to hang on to the coattails of the playoffs, still only 4 points people as results were kind to us last night Mot 😎.

Agree, in tight games you have got to take your chances . That is what makes the difference . Strikers that need 1 or 2 chances to score and those that need 10.
We still need a couple of more pieces for the jigsaw. We are on the right track though.

28 Sep 2016 09:33:44
Yup I agree. Watched it on Beamback at ER last night and football wise we have come on fantastic. The passing, the movement was dare I say premier league class. However, there is a but! We cannot miss the chances we are at the moment. We got away with it against Ipswich, but last night Sacko and Wood need to improve their finishing. The rest of their game is tremendous. Sacko has so much pace and skill, but is final ball / shot is poor. Wood battled hard won most of his headers, knocked the defence all over the place, but miss the few chances he had.
