Rumours are that Fulham have agreed a fee of just under £15M with Newcastle for Gayle! MOT

We need someone exactly like Gayle, I think they're testing us to see how big our balls are

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Aug 2017 10:46:51
I agree we do need someone to fit our new style. Someone in the Gayle mould but I think we have that already. Kemar Roofe. He knows us well fits our style and has started the season with a swagger. let's keep our money in our pocket and persevere with Roofe or Grot or Lassoga or Ekuban or. We are not short of names for the one striking position and I don't think Gayle is the great Messiah. If you listen to some people all we have to is spend 15mill! and we are guaranteed promotion. If only it was that easy. There are a few Championship clubs who have already fallen foul of that theory. I say stick with TC, Orta and the rest and if, if, we don't go up this year then at least we know we will have given it a damn good try and been right royally entertained along the way.

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 22:16:28
Generally can't fathom how fans want to spend £20m on Gayle, who's had had one good season at Champ level in a strong Newcastle team, but don't want a loanee who was in the Germany squad 3 years ago.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

29 Aug 2017 22:51:20
Not worth 20m but a good young prospect. Pacey and an eye for goal. Surprised Newcastle are letting him go and not helping him progress. They will probably want to buy him back in 3 years time.

Agree1 Disagree2

29 Aug 2017 22:58:06
It's just a case of knowing what your getting isn't it, we are lucky because Radz got Orta who has looked outside the box and found some gems, I mean how much did Newcastle pay last season for average players? I bet it was a lot and yet look at what we have spent and up till now they have been superb, and if they carry on performing like they are what will Siaz and Alioski be worth next season? I think we would of happily let Cooper go for a free last season but what will he be worth the way he's playing and young Grot could be the next Drogba! I think our backroom guys have done a bloody good job! MOT

With all these silly prices for strikers, I'm starting to think Chris Wood was sold on the cheap.

Agree1 Disagree2

30 Aug 2017 07:53:41
He's 28, that's not young. No re-sale value either and he's not good enough for the PL, so if you go up you have to get rid.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2017 08:00:59
Exactly Mike. Newcastle can't afford players now as they spent so much on average Championship players. For £20m, you want someone who can get you into Europe.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, they sold a hell of a lot of players to make the money to buy those Championship players. Their sales totalled roughly 90m and buys 57m, so they should have had no issues. The problem is that Mike Ashley brought in one of his 'mates' in order to break all the promises he had made to Rafa without having to do so directly. Ashley makes a nice little earner from Newcastle, as well as having all that free advertising, he doesn't want that to end just because a manager wants to buy a few players to be competitive.}

30 Aug 2017 08:15:51
I think personally that spending that amount of money on a player like Gayle would be crazy for our club. Yes he scored goals last season but l can see Roofe also scoring as many now that he is being played in the correct position for him. Don't honestly know much about Lassoga but he has played at a higher level and with Hamburg paying a large proportion of his wage this season think AR and TC have played a blinder. Grot could be another star find, reminds me of the big Norwegian Villa use to have. Do we really need to get involved in this desperate drama of paying silly money for hyped up players. Trust in AR and his staff, hasn't done a bad job so far.

Rob Green has thanked LUFC and the fans for their unbelievable support! You see, now that's class, a real pro who deserves a last shot in The Premiership, I thought he did really well for us and he saved us a lot of points last season! And still nothing from Wood apart from it's always been his dream, and he wants to show Leicester what they are missing! No thanks to us fans or the club for taking him from the bench and helping him achieve his dream, no class! MOT

Just watching Sly Sports One2Eleven with Ian Harte and the players he has picked for his perfect team are: Nigel Martyn, Gary Kelly, Rio Ferdinand, Johnny Woodgate, Denis Irwin, Lee Bowyer, Roy Keane (cap) , Oliver Dacourt, Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka and Robbie Keane. with the exception of two of those and you all know who, that's a good team! It did me to mate, I remember exactly everything that happened that night and it gives me goosebumps to think about it, poor Mrbean, Leeds88, Swadlad or whatever alias he is today because he would not have a clue how that feels, beating Besiktas 6-0, or Anderlect when they were on a long unbeaten run, or even our superb performance against Real Madrid, he's got no idea has he! Fantastic nights woody. Went to all three home games vs Milan, Barcelona and basiktas. best nights of football ever. Bowyer was a different class that season, just awesome. how he never made it to the very top is beyond me!

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2017 00:20:28
Lee Bowyer had the world at his feet but it all blew up in his face with the court case, him Woodgate and Duberry, it ruined the three of them all for different reasons, but Bowyer was different class, imagine what he would be worth nowadays? You are spot on though mate, those nights under the lights at Elland Road were something else, I don't know what it is about Elland Road at night but its an amazing atmosphere under the lights! We will get them massive games back one day and we are at last going in the right direction. So hopefully we can all live those nights again! MOT

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - to be fair Bowyer was busy trying to blow it all up in his own face long before he joined Leeds. There was his racially motivated attack in a McDonalds in London while he played for Charlton Athletic, that was hushed up because he was a professional footballer. There were at least a dozen other incidents the little turdmuncher was involved in that were also covered up during his career prior to signing for Leeds. The guy is just scum and it was not Leeds' fault that they had not known just how bad he was when they took a chance on him. I am not so sure he would be worth anything nowadays because it would be much more difficult to hush up the incidents he was involved in as a Premier League footballer.}

30 Aug 2017 06:15:54
Wow, well I didn't know that Ed, I knew he was a bad lad but not like you have just described and that was a well kept secret! I remember at the time of the racial attack of Sarfraz Najeib sat next to a las called Jaz, who was Asian, and I asked him if he thought they were guilty and he said absolutely, without a doubt but he said, nothing will happen because they are famous and Sarfraz isn't so they will put it down to him wanting to make money from them! I remember feeling shamed to be a Leeds fan at the time because with working on the markets I knew and befriended a lot of the Asian lads, I even took my LUFC stickers out the van window! So why did the newspapers not pick up on his colourful past then Ed? Surely if they had then he would of been thrown out of the game, I mean he wasn't allowed to play for England while this was going on and rightly so but with all that you have just said he shouldn't of been allowed in the game! He most surely wouldn't of been allowed nowadays! Thanks for that Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they did at the time, but no one wanted to know because it wasn't the media frenzy you have now. It certainly was covered: Guardian piece on Bowyer though you have to read quite a way before you get to the bits about his ex-gf who he walked out on him because of the way he acted when he found out her mam was Indian. Just after that it mentions the McDonalds incident, though it does not go into the full detail that the court transcripts at the time did. Certainly he and his mates were not shy in the terms they used to refer to the Asian lad that had served them. You can get away with anything if you are a professional footballer, just ask Joey Barton, he is now a bloody pundit on TV, yet he is a vile racist moron with a past that would have seen him locked up if he had not played football. Bowyer is a similar person to Barton really. Sadly talent is often wasted on people who do not deserve it. If I wouldn't risk having the websites shut down I could tell you a lot more stories from his time at Charlton as I have a lot of friends who worked at the club during his time there. However, without proof they are stories that have to stay in private, sadly.}

30 Aug 2017 06:38:32
Cheers Ed for the information and yes you are exactly right, you can get away with anything if you are a footballer including paying tax! I'm going to look up on all that though about Bowyer and I'm of the same opinion as you about Barton, best thing for football was when he was banned for betting! In truth I shuddered at the thought of him joining Leeds last season when he was linked because I can't stand him, he is the perfect example of what young footballers shouldn't be. Anyway cheers Ed for that. MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you are very welcome mate. I totally agree with you. If you can find any old Charlton fan sites with archives from back then, you might be able to find some of the info. I would assume it got leaked out online on them at the time, things have a way of doing so.}

Normally I would like the idea of Dwight Gayle joining Leeds but not at the moment. Having read some accounts of his performances this season and from what Benites has said ie Gayle is not in a good place at the moment mentally and his form is poor, I don't think we need any of this type of unsuitable baggage de-railing our current drive. £18 million, or anywhere near that, is poor business from the Leeds point of view and that is what Newcastle are asking - even though Gayle is struggling at the moment. It may be its The swede and perhaps the German even though he's bringing his mother along.

Well it looks like we've signed lasogga wasn't my first choice but he is a leeds player now so let's get behind him and show the lad some support. If T. C makes him feel important and wanted at lufc then that will give the lad confidence and that equals goals which we saw last season with wood . Welcome to LUFC. P. M. Harry7, how long have you been a Leeds supporter? You should know by now with past experiences that when things are going well that optimism turns to pessimism! but I think it's only a little thought rather than suggestions and to be honest you can't blame them as again we are a club that gets kicked in the teeth a lot and six weeks of good news won't change some people's thoughts, maybe six months down the line when everything has gelled together people's thoughts will change! Teams in The Championship looking to get promoted should learn from Newcastle of how it shouldn't be done because you need to buy players that can adapt and grow with the club, so ask yourselves this, who from the Leeds United squad do you think could adapt and succeed in The Premiership? As for Gayle, I would rather have Gayle than an injury prone Ings, or my first choice would be Shane Long or Jason Hugill. MOT

Mentioned. a couple of seasons ago it would have been the total opposite

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 19:06:57
The reason I didn't pick Berardi, is simply because he isn't the attacking kind, but as soon as he's fit he'd go right into the team, simply because he's defending and passion is excellent.

To be honest Curahee even with last seasons team we would of struggled to find anyone good enough! Cooper, O'Kane, Phillips and Vierra have totally changed for the better, so last season Pontus, Beradi and Wood, they would of been it! Heard Roofe on talk sport earlier today, and got to say what a breath of fresh air the pad is. He told the presenter what a massive club Leeds United is and it was only once he came here that he truly realised this. He said that all the team have bought into the new way of training and were enjoying the new style. When asked about him playing as a striker he said this was his preferred position. Also when asked about Grot and rumours that Leeds looking to get in two more strikers Roofe replied that it was about the squad this year, goal was promotion and competition for places in the team was healthy. What a top bloke, and sums up the new team attitude.
