Listening to David Pleat on the radio bemoaning the amount of foreign players in the premier league when there is perfectly good home grown talent in the lower divisions - like - in his opinion - Luke Murphy :o) (the other one he mentioned was Dwight Gayle - ah well 1 out of 2 isn't bad).

Just looking at the squad and apart from the obvious lack of players in certain positions the one thing I noticed was a severe lack of captains/leaders. Apart from Brown, Mc Cormack, and maybe Lees. Would be great if we could bring a modern day Stachan, Chapman, Sterland and Varadi. Experience is vital in championship. MOT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

"Apart from Brown"

For about 2 seconds I thought this was a serious post.

. or are you talking about someone to lead the players OFF the pitch with red cards?

Agree0 Disagree0

Warnock probably best for captain or many a new cb like gorks

Tonight Ryan hall scores two. sounds like the likes of Thompson Dawson mowatt are playing well. Austin playing well too. Mat smith and hunt having a good game. Very good vibes from the match report.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Matt smith will be a real handfull for defenders this season even if it means him just coming on for the final 20 minutes or so

I propose chants of "Leaving on a jet plane, Ken Bates ain't coming back again. " for Saturday.
From The Scratching Shed on :P
Brilliant, who agrees?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Masterpiece! True class!

Agree0 Disagree0

What would the tune be? {Ed013's Note - I suggest if you don't know the tune to "leaving on a jet plane" you type it in youtube as it is an old song}

Really not one to constantly try to lure former players back but noticed that st etienne have aquired another winger. One player I would love to see back in the white shirt saturday would be maxi gradel. I know funds are tight but if we could get rid of some of the dead wood would be great if somehow we could find the funds. What are peoples thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would like to see him bk but honestly even with a few out still don't think we can afford him

Agree0 Disagree0

He was linked to liverpool last season but said he was happy there. Until we are in the premier league we have no chance getting him back.

why won't the arab king who supports leeds all his life buy into us or invest in us. afew years ago he wanted to buy us but it fell through he's a billionare and was last at our home game in the capital one cup game against Chelsea.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was a massive hoax. he wasn't a Prince, and he wasn't close to being a billionaire.

Shaun Harvey has been appointed chief executive of the Football League.

Must have been doing something right.

Yeh. keeping the biggest club in the Football League down.

Congratulations Shaun! he's had some stick on here but if you consider the limited time Bates spent in the country then he was doing a job now done by three men!

Probably a thank you from all the clubs where we have taken thousands upon thousands of fans to over the last 9 years.

I guess the one saving grace of not making many signings this year is that when the new Fifa comes out, nearly all can be got rid off and not be classed as "recently moved".

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah that's exactly what I can't wait for. It was just impossible to do a career mode with leeds on fifa 13. Having no wide men and not having any money.

Agree0 Disagree0

To poster 2 not really just after be more patiant instead of getting promotion straight away

Agree0 Disagree0

Grow up and play p evo. Vinny.

Agree0 Disagree0

To poster nr 2, I only bought wingers because I play a 4-3-3 / 4-5-1, and always bought 3. The funny think is the 3mil budget seemed adequate. with 1 loanee and an unknown brazilian. The other was Nathan Redmond.

I just found it annoying that I had to sit around with Pugh, Tongue, Norris, Brown and couldn't get rid of em.

Anyone else heard the rumour that Prince Abdullah bin Musa'ad may have been approached about investment/takeover of Leeds. Seen on twtr on Ben Jacobs account.

What about this idea? If we get 25k fans to set up a direct debit of £1 per week we could pay the wages of the two players BMD so desperately needs

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I reakon there could be something in that, just that it is sad that this is what it comes down to. As fans we should be not paying for the clube to be able to hire players.

Since last year, we have added 3 players, and Somma, Bromby, Kisnorbo, Morison, Payne, Rachubka, Connelly and Habibou (after a loan) have left, along with some youngsters.

There has to be more funds available for wages after that list. Murphy and Smith are both league one players moving up, so should be coparative. Hunt is ex-prem so may comand a little more (in line with Morison I guess). I just can't understand it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Or get 5k fans to buy season tickets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Or simply just fill the ground up week in week out and we will be ok

Agree0 Disagree0

Amen to that. what is the point of football if we're not actually going to games?

Agree0 Disagree0

We should be filling the stadium, but I stick with my comments above. where the hell have all the salary funds gone. let's not forget we have also lost Warnock, which I think would have commanded more than BMD.

Plus I jus can't believe we have let the free signings pass us by. there have been various players who are good enough we could have signed

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely agree with filling the stadium up on a regular basis, but for those unable to attend games whether geographically, financially or for any other valid reason, then a £1 per week or even per month with the amount of fans we have around the country and the world would be sufficient to fund either a very good loan signing for the season or possibly fund a move for a player permanently, however the catch being that us 'the fans' get to vote on which particular player (within reason and one of say three that have been identified as BMD targets) we want to bring in, I think a lot of clubs may well do something like this eventually, its a new level of the club interacting with the fans, who are without doubt the lifeblood of the club.

I think selling Byram is the right thing for the club. Anything of £5mil+ I'd bite someones hand off for! As good as he was last year, right backs don't get you promotions, with say 6mil we could get, for example; Jack Hunt, Adomah, Mills/Gorks and a goalscorer, whilst having a few bob left over for wages. Seems the right thing to do in my eyes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think this is very shortsighted. Right backs might not win you promotion but help stop relegation. If you have a rubbish right or left back that is being beaten every week by the opposing winger they can then create chances so the other team scores. Would rather keep him another year, if he excels like he did this year then he will be an asset to the team. I also see him in the future making the move to centre back or defensive midfield, two positions that definitely win you games. Fair enough if we get 8+million offered then we have to consider it but anything below that is too low in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure what Thompson is like as a RB, but peltier is very poor. Worst player again Germans on sat.

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon when he is fit you might see Byram playing further forward as a winger with peltier playing right back. Thompson as cover for Peltier

Imagine the irony, if Leeds lose an unfair dismissal and end up paying Bates compensation! You couldn't make this stuff up!
New start, new season MOT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just seen on a well known sports channel that Ken Bates claims that he was sacked as LUFC president over travel expenses dispute

You couldn't write a better script!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well as he never drew a wage he can't claim lost earnings?

And to sue for defamation of character, you actually have to have one to defame.

So what else is he going to sue for?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think, and it is just a thought, Red Bull has said we will not invest as long as KB has anything to do with club. Therefore its worth GFH getting rid of him and risk being sued. JD

If Bates is the owner of ER and TA as has been long rumoured, how much do you think the price has just gone up now we have sacked him from the board. It would be just like him to do something petty like that

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thought the council owned them?

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure bates does own them, think leeds city holdings limited do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please clarify. People have been looking forward to the money coming in for ER and TA sale but if we do not own either how does the sale help. the money will go to Council or Bates surely

Agree0 Disagree0

" the money will go to Council or Bates surely"

I think the idea was for a large sum to be paid into Leeds to enable the club to buy back the grounds from whoever owned them, and any surplus would (hopefully) be spent on players and/or wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

The ground and TA are both owned by a company called Teak Trading Corporation. This is readily available information from public domain sources such as the Land Registry.

The issue surrounds ownership of Teak Trading. Because the company is registered in the British Virgin Islands, a notorious tax haven which lacks any transparency, there is no obligation to list the shareholders or directors in the way that a UK company has to register them at Companies House. For instance, anyone can find out the ownership & control of my company in 2 minutes because it's UK registered.

The bottom line is that no-one knows who really owns the ground.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think gfh are very sharp people. I just can't see them taking 7 months to by the club without looking at the viability of buying back TA and ER.

Once again we fail to convert chances created, we've scored 3 goals in last 4 games and all 3 came against a League One team and scored by 1 player, this simply is not good enough, we have NO out and out goal scorer, whilst our strikers each have different qualities to their game it can not be denied that not one of them has been CONSISTANTLY prolific throughout their careers, with the exception of Matt Smith & Dom Poleon who has hardly had much of a pro career to date, I worry massively where our goals are going to come from, I am literally clinging on in hope that Ross can re-capture his Cardiff form in front of goal, or that Smith/Poleon will somehow turn into goal machines, otherwise our problem during the season won't be how many we have been conceding it will be the lack of goals scored.

Whilst the old saying of 'If you don't concede you won't lose' is fair enough, but on the other side of the coin if you don't score you won't win either, anyone fancy a season full of draws?

I know this seems like an extremely negative post and I know the need for a quality CB is a top priority but I can't help but feel our pursuit for a top CB will be in vain when we fail to find the net during the season.

Heres hoping I am completely wrong of course.

MOT SussexLeeds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Been saying we need prolific striker for months. let's just hope one of them step up and surprises us. We need cb and winger more now. I am still convinced that mcd will be a success, even if it takes till next season

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope McCormack hits the ground running IF he gets played as a striker. I don't think he's made for playing at the tip of the diamond. I'd rather see Murphy play there hitting killer through balls to Poleon and McCormack.

I'm also hoping our oppostions score lots of own goals.

why is everyone getting upset with gfh! who would you rather have as chairman, gfh or bates? gfh don't have much money but they have done good things like bring ticket prices down. when bates wanted to sell no rich people came along so he had to sell to gfh!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think gfh done brilliant and I even think they should stick to a wage and transfer budget. The deadwood has to go first, its good business to keep the wages at a certain level. There are about 8 that need to go and about 3-4 in. i'm a bit annoyed that a few of the players that do not figure in mcd plans aren't trying to seek first team football. Money talks again. Think we have to be patient and let contracts run out if need be. Gfh have not done anything negative. All positive.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2013 09:28:41
It's not money we lack for signings but wage budget which baffles me because there's a lot of smaller clubs that are signing decent players on decent money so all I am saying having the biggest stadium you would think we'd have the biggest wage budget since we also have the biggest following.

I also think it is wrong that the clubs coming down from
PL get a season to sort there wage budget out so gives them a chance to get straight back up by keeping big earners

How's that fair play?

Mot

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It isn't fair play and they don't care. So what we have in English football now is a three tier Premier league (those that can win, those that are safe usually and those that will scrap for survival) and a two tier Championship consisting of those that yo-yo between the Premier and the championship and those that yo-yo between the championship and division 1.

I mean does anyone ever think that the mighty Yeovil (who have done brilliantly just to get to the Championship) will ever compete with the three teams that came down and get a reported £20 million a year for 3 years?.

And as we know now after nearly 10 years away, how do we compete?, regardless of crowd size. Even if we do get back I am afraid we will have to get used to being a scrapping for survival side for a few years and can we ever win the title again? I would love it but my head says I am not sure we ever will. That could be the saddest legacy of Mr Risdale.

Agree0 Disagree0

We may well have the biggest stadium but that means nothing if we can't even fill it no excuses for it not to be full for the brighton game owners have lowered ticket prices now buy your tickets and let's all march on together

Agree0 Disagree0

We have massicve income from season tickets, advertising etc, bates re mortgafged it for this and last season to pay for stand development

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't have a massive following are home support last year was shocking Brighton hammered us on home support because despite new owners people didn't like the idea of bates staying on as chairman for the rest of the year even though he obviously couldn't take anymore money out as he no longer owned us.

The fans want a decent wage structure? how about you invest a little in the club. If you can't afford it that's fine but some will be able to I can guarentee if we got to the prem last year we would be sold out every game this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

"I also think it is wrong that the clubs coming down from

Lots of speculation that BMD not happy with team and not having sufficient support to do his job effectively. Has started to assemble team but severely restrained. Maybe not what he was told or promised. Is he going to settle and deal with it or has he been frustrated and thinking about walking away from the job? First few weeks will tell. Bad run in August and who knows what will happen

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Stop spouting rubbish mcdermott is in it for the long haul do you really think he would of bought a house up in leeds if he was going to leave anytime soon get a grip

Agree0 Disagree0

I like mcdermott but if he was 2 leave then all it says about him is he's only good with spending other peoples money and a poor manager but he's a good manager and like every good manager he will get the best out of what he has.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know if this is true, but I do not think BMD looks as enthusiastic as he did end of last season. the interview with Eddie Gray after Nuremberg game, BCD looks down and defeated.

I think BCD need to just slowly start to build his own squad for next season and use this to lose the dead wood and bring the youth through.

In Mac we trust.

Just a rumour! No Red Full deal, no new signings, no out going players as no other clubs see our players worthy enough, no money and no hope of getting promoted. I am a true Leeds fan, but all we get fed is the same old sh1t, but just by a different puppet. You look at what other, use the term lightly, ambitious clubs are doing in terms of new recruits, ie Forest and such likes, what are we hoping for, save the best signings till last, not likely scraping the barrel as usual. BMc is/was looking for hungry players, looks like they are coming forward in droves to join our squad of players with their tanks half full. Here's to the new season, hope I am very very wrong, but are we looking forward to watching lots of attacking football played in our half yet again.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well you're great fun aren't you?! what do you want GFH to do, magic money out of thin air? You say you're a true leeds fan yet can't remember what happened last time we spent money we didn't have?

Agree0 Disagree0

Great, another post from a Leeds fan who spouts absolute garbage. I don't know why people bother making themselves look absolute persons. Unless your a director of Leeds, and are privelidge to information, then I sugest we all wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah same with portsmouth they spent lots of money too, you also use forest as an example well how many times has it got them promoted since they started spending it freely? Also Leicester, Blackburn etc etc etc. Look GFH have spent 1m on a player that's a step up in itself, Byram is still as Leeds player which would happen under Bates, Season tickets were dropped, Half season tickets introduced etc. Yet you continue to moan probably looking for another reason to 'boycott' cause you don't really want to follow Leeds.
