Went to the game and left after 75 mins so missed Roofe's goal. Even with Jansson and Douglas we would still require a couple more players (Bamford will help) . Height of the team still remains the issue as only Cooper registered being over 6ft. I like how we are trying to knock the ball about but their is a time and a place. Sides will press Peacock Farrell therefore he needs to take less risks. The loss of Forshaw is a big one as Viera struggles to play the box to box role. Klich is a better passer but lacks any mobility and therefore you have both him and Phillips playing deep which leaves a massive void in midfield. Roofe was feeding on scraps but does little for me to assert himself on the game. Our final ball is generally left wanting from the flanks or from Saiz who looks off the place. I like Hernandez but I do not think he will be able to contribute for an entire Championship season. Berardi although I praise his spirit he is not a centre back. Apologies for sounding negative but in the 75 mins I watched I thought we huffed and puffed against a side that still has a couple of weeks of pre-season. Positives - Phillips is better in a clearly defined role but needs to cut out the Hollywood passes. Baker looks a good touch player and will be effective driving past the centre forward. Douglas and Ayling with give us quality from the wing back roles. Cooper looks like he is learning about positioning and retaining possession. Roberts could provide some threat running with the ball. We need quality to create chances and some to finish them.

IMO we need Maddison he would be THE signing of the summer.

Sign Bamford and use the cash saved on vydra to get Maddison and sell saiz to Valencia or Getafe and use remaining money to sign Tammy Abraham, see who else we can get in on loan tbh I’d let Roofe go to wba if it’s upward of 7m . There’s still work to be done but having been today we look better than last season although a little toothless, klich looked decent in the middle .

So sad to hear of Forshaws injury but it now opens a chance for someone to step up and show they are undroppable. Come on someone grab your chance play out of your skin and don't let go.

If Bamford can just patrol the box and get 30 boring tap ins a year I will be more than happy. Last year we were good in the first three quarters of the pitch then just lost our way around there box. We started off good chances but by the time we got near their goal we forgot what comes next.

Would be even more pleasing if those 30 tap ins were all winning goals :)

I try not to be too negative but seem to be failing in that respect - for good reason I think. We were poor last season but the personnel are pretty much the same with a number of exits. New Keeper might be ok, Baker has something to prove because he wasn't great last season. We didn't get Vydra or Hernandez but seem to have Bamford instead. Hernandez or Vydra with Bamford as well would have been good, I think. Bamford on his own - Don't think so. He hasn't done as well as was expected of him. Douglas hopefully will be a good signing. So we still have an average at best mid field, Not great up front and if we play a back four not enough quality at centre half although it should be better than last year. Mid table if no other quality players come in, However good Bealsa is he can't make Cooper, Phillips, Alioski, Roofe, Dallas and a group of youngsters part of a promotion winning team. They are simply not good enoughIf there is good movement in the transfer window things could change.

Bamford a year older. Expect more from him this year.

29 Jul 2018 18:38:30
Hope I am wrong wex but think he’s average at best, way over priced at 7 rising to 10.he doesn’t strike me as a number 9 and I don’t think he will get 20 goals.

29 Jul 2018 18:47:01
Agree Hess, my hope is that Bielsa has seen something in Roberts that he likes and therefore has chosen to go with Bamford. Douglas is a great signing and if we could get a quality CB I think we will be in the mix with Stoke, Boro, Forest and WBA.

29 Jul 2018 18:51:26
Bamford represents an upgrade on what we have. I welcome him. We aren't playoff contenders yet but with his acquisition as well as Douglas we are rising into that 9th spot area in my opinion. Acquire Maddison and decent central defender and I can see us occupying a playoff berth.

Agree George, need to sign Maddison, he’s a key piece of the LUFC jigsaw now Forshaw injured.

29 Jul 2018 23:23:47
Patience still needed, I think we will see 2/ 3 more new players before the loan window closes. Bielsa will need time to pull it all together so could be a slow first month up to the international break. I think he will get more out of the existing players and the newbies should be here to make the difference but a bit of time and patience definitely needed. Let’s not write it all off yet! Got the feeling that Bielsa wasn’t giving too much away about his team for Stoke, might be a surprise or two in his starting lineup!

I wanted to make another comment about Cooper. Another manager and he is still in the team and still named captain, and that is after Bielsa watched all of last seasons games. People must see something. Bielsa had the ideal opportunity to add him to the get rid list quickly but has chosen not to. Perhaps he will have another rebirth con el loco.

Honest opinion on that, being the last game of pre season, I feel as though Jameson back in and bamford signing will sort us for the window. I along with many of you would have liked vydra, I just don't see it happening any more. Think bamford is done so long as the medical goes through though. Peacock had little to do due to good performances from Phillips and bera imo, ayling again solid, won't miss Dallas on the left personally, works hard but that's it. Cooper should be back up and bera and jansson deserve the CB spots. Klich, Baker, Roofe, Hernandez all very impressive, Roberts looks energetic and useful when he came on. Saiz not bad and alioski again woeful. Signing Maddison should be priority for next week should bamford pass his medical. Very good overall display against the hardest opposition yet. MOT.

Pretty much agree with you Samo. Given the preseasons my suggested lineup for Stoke would be BPF/ Jamal - Ayling, Pontus, Philips, Berardi, Douglas - Klich - Roberts, Baker, Hernandez - Bamford/ Roofe. Can't decide on the front or the back playing the 5-1-3-1 of today. I would be tempted to throw Bamford in, see what he can do and hopefully make himself an instant hero to the crowd.

Its same old same old at the moment. Cooper sloppy at the back, Phillips booked clumsy challenge, Roofe not managing a great deal, and poor control and passing in midfield. Can only get better!

Can see his reasons for the line up. He does not have much leeway but I can see Blackman, Roberts, Baker and Klich getting a kick later on. Let's see if we go the obligatory goal down before we stir.

Ok. same team as last year for Stoke? Trying out last year's group failures? Ballsy!
We'll see now where the £2m manager pay will show itself. either it's genius or the same old story.
I predict it'll be a miracle and Stoke will run scared. ;-)

29 Jul 2018 16:38:17
If we get Bamford, can’t Roofe play along side him up front - 11 goals last year etc.? Do we need Vydra? Are we actually trying to get Vydra!? The build up play is key and Douglas is a fantastic signing. We have skill but lacked steel last year. Now Forshaw is injured, I hope they are looking at centre back or defensive midfield, otherwise the likes of Assombalonga will just run straight through us again.

29 Jul 2018 13:24:50
We need to start being a bit more positive. New coach with a different style in town. Let’s see how he can develop our players before we decide whether they are too ‘lightweight’ to step up. I stayed off this site due to poorly crafted posts/ rants that only added to my frustration witnessed on the pitch. let’s see the team in action before we ‘hang’ them. Personally I think this will be one of the toughest years in the championship and I think we can rise to the occasion 👏🏻👍🏻MOT.

PPeacock Apart from Ausman, don't recall any poorly crafted posts last season. Posters vented at Wally, Cooper, Lassie and Hecky mainly. Rightly. It's due to fans like us voicing our valued opinions that we are now rewarded with BPF/ Blackman, Douglas, Baker and tomorrow Bamford will hopefully join. All being well management shall listen to George and acquire Maddison too. Add a decent central defender and you have a first team and squad which will compete for a playoff spot. Don't be so quick to criticize the criticizers. Often those are the best fans you have.

Agree7 Disagree0

29 Jul 2018 19:17:08
Lol George! Are you gunning for Aus for winning POTS already!? And yeah, do have to agree with you on the "poorly constructed" posts part ;that's not part of what I was agreeing with.

29 Jul 2018 19:27:21

29 Jul 2018 22:04:08
Poorly crafted was perhaps a poor choice of words ( maybe not in some cases) but certainly posts that lacked any real value. We are all entitled to our opinion but let’s at least be able to back up the posts with actual evidence- not some dribble that may have been picked up, second hand. Love the banter etc but c’mon😂MOT.

30 Jul 2018 00:38:33
PPeacock Evidence? Most of it has been loaned out around parts of Europe and League 1 or did that fact slip you by? Think you'll find most Leeds fans already had their suspicions but they were confirmed when our new manager said "let us get rid of 15 players" shortly after his arrival. Any more Jedi mind tricks for us?

Leeds luck continues. Forshaw, one of our few decent players out for a while. We have 'ok' options but that's all they are. They won't compete very well with most of the other midfields they will come up against. We are going to be very light weight in that area until he gets back. In the 'ok' options I include Vierra and Phillips. We also have poor options - an O'Kane, a Japanese and a number of others. Don't know who might be coming in but I still don't hold up much hope for the Stoke game. Our poor mid field has put undue pressure on the defence for a few seasons now whilst not providing much going forward. Even when we finished 7th it was largely due to Wood's one chance - one goal season performance.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

29 Jul 2018 13:14:22
Hess Vieira is better than ok. Phillips improving by all accounts. Don't forget the standard of opposition we're playing. It's not the WC or PL. Forshaw is a big loss but not insurmountable at this level.

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Jul 2018 14:17:12
Better to have the injury now whilst the market is still open and there are opportunities for loans. Don’t forget Klich and Baker as options and could be an opportunity for them to impress. 2 out of viera, Phillips, baker and klich, not a disaster!

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2018 15:44:26
Vierra is ok but there are better/ more experienced midfielders in this division. He's a youngster and is inconsistent. He will be excellent but 'ok' for the moment. We were so poor last year and he was head and shoulders above the rest except for Forshaw so all the fans believe him to excellent now. He isn't compared with the rest of the division. We need a Forshaw type otherwise we will do badly in the first month or so looking at the fixtures.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Jul 2018 23:08:11
We will see after the game against Stoke. I might appear a bit negative at the moment but I think is just simple reality. The scoreline will decide.

Agree, it's time to forget Hydra and let him get his pay Czech (see what I did there) somewhere else - Bamford would be a good signing in my humble opinion and maybe go for Hugill as well + a CB and a winger and we are set to go.

29 Jul 2018 12:39:43

Good post but Hugill unnecessary. Roberts Bamford Roofe Edmondson sufficient especially if Saiz and Pablo are going to feature.

I don't care one bit if Vydra is motivated by money. We support a football team! Football is a wash with money. Relatively, it always has been. If he goes out on to the pitch and works hard in a leeds shirt then i will support him and i will chant his name. Getting a bit sick and tired of fans implying a morivation by money is a bad thing. They need to get with the programme. Simple solution. Performance Related Pay.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2018 18:02:11
Vydra has rightly been told to do one, as he reportedly agreed a deal, then got greedy. We've seen before that players need to want to play for us, not just the money, as it shows on the pitch. That said, totally agree re performance related pay, but doubt it will ever happen, unfortunately.
