It's a standard quote most managers and coaches make when a player(s) return to full training after injury. Also Mick Jones rates Somma very highly.KEA

I also rate him highly if he stays fit will prove better than anyone we sign Karl mot

Another Dilemma for the Jan transfer window with lots of people saying we need a fast striker.
Who plays up front?
Already we have McCormack, Bechio and Diouf, with the latter I feel having played his best at RM.
I know people feel strongly about all three of the above, but if we buy someone, we surely are not buying for the bench. So two people are going to get upset.
Who would you drop? Who of the three would you leave as one of the two forward players?

Unbelievable0
Beccchio as striker and drop McCormack in on left wing - he scored double figures for cardiff from that position
Agree5
Disagree1
Don't have to drop anyone, Neil will need to rotate smartly though.
Agree5

Possibly put McCormack at LW if Thomas doesn't stay because he's the only one with a question mark over his head. I personally think the rest will stay.

i would just keep things as they are .diuof can't always play 3 times a week so probably be switching between diouf and mccormack .no point changing formation byram and green are playing well together down the right . if we bring in a fast striker it wants to be an impact striker that we can bring on for last 20-30 mins to hit the opposition when there tired .
Agree5
Disagree1
Id drop diouf and play Ross mc behind becchio and somma ......somma will be key if he stays fit watch this space Karl mot

When Austin is back who would you drop?
Personally for me it would have to be tonge.
CM would have to be Norris and Austin. I would have liked to have seen Norris and Green whilst Austin has been out.
RM would have to be Green or Diouf.
LM would have to be Thomas or Hall.
Am I sitting on the fence a bit? Well Diouf and Hall would have to be subs for left an right midfield and Tonge would be sub for centre.

either way the players will have to fight for there place in the team ,no point fixing something thats not broken
Agree1
Disagree0
If we keep Tonge and we are still playing well and winning then Austin will not walk back in to the team, he will have a place on the bench the same as Pearce and wait for/hope to get a chance.
Agree1
Disagree1
In my opinion it is Austin who will struggle to get back in I suppose rotating him with tongue would be the best option .....difficult to change a winning team Karl mot

Fellow Leeds fans, Ed.....
I have a dilemma, My 6 y.o lad as just been offered a trial at uddersfield.
Now as we are both mad Leeds fans I or him don't want to go, but, do i deny him the opportunity ?
I quote my son "but if i am good enough Leeds will pick me up anyway"
I would be interested to hear other fans thoughts and opinions.
MOT {Ed013's Note - Don't let rivalry prevent a career from happening. I myself don't have a problem with Uddersfield, it is the other way round! We have bigger rivals and like your son said, "if i am good enough Leeds will pick me up anyway" I would let my son go}

Let him go, definitely. Further down the line he may get the chance to play for Leeds but I would have thought foot in the door is most important at this early stage.

6 years old is far too young and represents all that is wrong with football in this country. It's always tempting to let them have the opportunity but just remember that 98% of lads taken on are chewed up and spat out by all clubs who only care about not missing out on a potential star and a huge potential windfall.

Udders mean nowt to us especially when we are in prem next season :) as long as u drill it in his head he is LUFC thru n thru he should be ok! MOT

Im 49, I wrote to Don Revie in 1974 at the age of 11 wanting to play for Leeds United...my club. Still got the letters, got a trial at 14, never made it.
Was offered other clubs but wouldnt have it, it was Leeds or nothing. Biggest mistake cos I lived and breathed footy as a kid.
Your son may not be the right age, but whoever gives him a chance, take it cos it may be the only one he gets, it may not, and it could be a stepping stone to bigger things. If hes good enough he'll get spotted wherever he is, good luck!
Agree7
Disagree1
Let him go. He sounds like he's Leeds and he knows it but no harm playing for another youth team and could end up at Leeds someday. He's only 6 now. You never know, in 2022 he could be the next wonder kid in football manager in the Leeds youth team. Good luck to him

Grasp the opportunity with both hands, there must be hundreds of footballers out there that don't play for their team, look on the bright side at least it's not Man Utd, Good luck !!

Playing for a club and supporting one are 2 very different things. A good career for your son should be priority number 1. Your loyalty is admirable and I understand your son might not be happy, but it's his ability they have asked for NOT his heart

Haaahaaaa like that quote vinny. Still giggling now 5 mins later.

OP, Thanks lads.
I think it would be silly to deny him the opportunity, and hopefully he will be picked up by Leeds at some point anyway.
If he did make it and became a good player i would be his agent and try and engineer a move to ER!!
Also just bought Chelsea tickets for the two of us, it will be his first time to ER, just to make sure he's got the Leeds bug!

Let him go for it mate why not ? kids develop and change as they get older he may prove better than he is now depending how he matures ....pace always an asset . my lad plays and he was fantastic up til about 13 with pace and size but then others developed and caught up a bit and he doesn't quite stand out as much now.....age is a great leveller Karl mot

Sorry guys but did I read the original post correctly? 6 years old ? Is that for real. How in the name of god can you decide if a 6 year is going to be a good footballer when he grows up. Early teens maybe but 6. No way.

You need to stop dreaming mate, 6 y old. if he is still with a club as a 16 y ood he will have a 1 in a hundred chance of making it and those are generous odds. Believe me

Yes he is 6 and not 7 until next summer - To the first poster Jonny Howson was a leeds from 7 years old, the clubs are picking kids up younger and younger now - my lad plays for a junior team in Rothwell and if you fancy coming down i will introduce you to other kids who are at the following clubs, Leeds, City, and one lad a city as been their since he was 5.
Second Poster - "Believe me" mate I am not in any dream land - I agree that he would have a very slim chance of making it, as put in my op "do i deny him the opportunity" because i don't want his hopes been built and the dropped like a ton of bricks. But thanks for the support.

He only joined the Manc's because they were willing to pay all the cash up front not in installments. He even wavered his signing on fee and told Man utd to give it all to Leeds.
For god sake the man cried on the pitch the day we got relegated. He was devastated (like all of us), especially as he knew he'd be sold.
If you look at the transfer properly and are not clouded by it being Man Utd then you will realise that we lost a true fan and great player of the club.
Agree10

He is obviously a great fan but lets be honest I wouldn't say he was ever a great player . Michael Bridges was much better

NO CHANCE,..Cant make the first 11 for mk dons, nostalgia isnt going to get us out of this division,..players that can play will. Smithy has had his day im afraid.

they are second at the moment ..
wont be anywhere near at end of the season
they wont go up

and have more ambition than them wannabes
after zaha leaves there finished

the only thing is if zaha does go it will be for enough money to bring in quality in a few positions and they have a manager who knows how to get promoted from this league .
Agree0

And how to get relegated from the prem, besides , blackpool then were a lot better than palace are now, and getting a big fee doesnt always guarantee its going on other players, and they won't find another zaha to play for them anyway

ive been reading all of these posts about people who think we are going to be buying, darren bent, florent malouda and even shane long, you have to be realistic guys, the players i would sign;
George Boyd
Theo Robinson
Dane Richards, Pacey SOB (plays for NY red bulls, also jamaican so could be persuaded my austin as they are both international regulars)
i also think that tate, tonge, hall and diouf's contracts should be renewed.
would also love to see nunez and rogers get a shot when they get back, rogers not even been given a change at stevenage and i thought nunez looked quality start of last season.
