I think its a trait with italian keepers they seem to like punching ball out rather than catch it

According to News Now, I've got to add some fresh impetus! What's all that about then?

Was there last night and got my 2-1 prediction right (was posted on here as well as proof).

Hats off to Redfern, choose an interesting team which did the job against this team, maybe just maybe this was the night when he showed that as a coach/manager he can adapt and pick the right team/formation to face specific threats.

Overall we were better than them, not by much but our midfield looked better, for me Murphy was great, Cook had moments but also lost a fair few tackles and got tired as well, Mowatt scored but wasn't great in the game, Byram was OK but no more, Taylor played really well, lots of energy, got foot in and made much more impact in midfield than the likes of Sloth/Adryan/Bianchi ever have had which was interesting.

Defense wise Marco just can't/won't catch anything or come for crosses puts us under pressure, felt Bamba/Bellusci did a job, not perfect but effective, Cooper did better at full back than he did before, not a long term answer but as match went on he got better. Wootton for me has done well since coming back, he did a job again last night seemed reasonable to me (I used to play full back at a low low standard for many years so kinda understand the basics of that role) he ain't great but not pants either.

B Sharp did well, great goal, well done a good performance.

So for me we played with a plan/structure for a particular threat and it worked well, if we can carry on against the team who have the worst current home form in the league for their last 6 home games (W 0, D 1, L 5), no reason we can't win.

I called it right too DG and posted it on here. I agree with your analysis. For me Murphy and Charlie Taylor were outstanding. Bamba looked like he was treading water at times and he looked tired and laboured which was pointed out on another post. He could do with a rest but fair play to him he kept getting a toe in and a few last ditch tackles due to his extends-legs. I reckon with a full pre-season behind him, he'll be awesome.
Charlie Taylor as a winger? Yes, please. We could have the solution right there and he gets back and helps out defensively.

well done on your prediction and thanks for the report, always good to hear thoughts of fans in the ground, interesting about taylor could be another one for the future, also good to see murphy doing well, I have always said I thought he would come good. Bit harsh on Marco, may not come for crosses as not many european keepers do (look at de gea as one example) but think he will get better at that aspect of his game and he is an emmense shot stopper (i think best in league by a mile) and has been worth a lot of points for us this season. Also great to hear the love for Billy. Billy don't be a hero just score another goal tonight (that last bit was sung)

BW I remember than song!
Billy don't be a hero don't be a fool with your life la la la la la la la

Can't remember who sang it mind.

Agree re Marco, brill shot stopper for sure just hopes he comes out a bit more next yr but is a good goalie better than small fat boy of last year who also didn't come for crosses much.

Wasn't it Chicago? God how awful was that. I remember singing it at school with my mates banging a drum!
Thanks for report on game dg. It's great to have sensible analysis for those absent fans.
Pleased murphy has come good.

one thing they must do is stop back peddling when being attacked wotton the worse and in second half when things go wrong players stand there and make it easy for them they just look at each other but were on right track . slowly getter better so good things to look forward to . bring them on and let's start to win win win . finish about 8th would be brill

I have criticised Redfearn on this site on previous occasions for his lack of tactical awareness and inability to use substitutions to change a game however last night he got it right. The defensive line up was picked to counter the direct aerial play of Ipswich and the substitution allowed Antenucci to give support to Sharpe which created the second goal. Silvestre still leaves me feeling uneasy. Shot stopping is usually sound (except for their goal - a tame shot by Sears) however his preference to punch instead of catching the ball puts us under pressure. Also his kicking is inconsistent and as a result of a poor clearance they scored their goal. That said he did redeem himself by saving the penalty. Without being harse because he is still young (especially in goalkeeping terms) we cannot afford the keeper to cost points next season if we have any ambition of a promotion challenge.

Yes Notts
I like Silvestri, but I have kept saying that despite his great shot stopping he seems unable to catch a ball and is always flapping and punching, and his command of his area is non existent. No idea if those sort of things can be learnt or if its too late for him

as a super league and cup winning goalkeeper I feel I am the perfect person to answer that, Silvestri is typical european keeper, crosses and big forwards is not the way so command of area and coming for and claiming crosses is not the way and not focused on in training. Lots of european keepers struggle with this (Massimo tieba, dea gea, pepe reainer even peter schimecl remember his mistake to allow champan to score from cross) it is something he will get better at, it is all about confidence and positioning but it does seem like a whole new game (bit like change from 5-a-side to proper football, it is not goal size but game plan and postioning. I think no promise he will improve in this area. in the mean time let's be greatful to have one of the best shotstoppers in the league maybe even the country at a push, he is young as well. also think how many points he has won us, not cost us. for me he is our best keeper since paul rehupka

yes and no, really enjoying giving all fmaily and mates stick. glad it don't look like we will get beat at the den next year which will stop me being in the crowd and getting stick, look forward to them slipping up next year to a team like hereford which I don't even know where that is but enjoy beating them at ER and if they go down they will win more which makes them all happy, so yes and no but overall YES

Well pleased for the lads, that performance last night was teamwork. Sharp proving you can be lone striker and score. And him and Ant can play together for a plan b. Berlusci in as extra midfield/defender means more freedom for Taylor to push up and for midfield to push up. Murphy playing great, so when we all slagging off players who joined this year remember Murphy last year. Although Morrison and Austin have been giving their all and working hard do not see them taking us up next season which is what this season is all about. Think Montenegro will be going home which is a shame because he is good. Would hope we keep Adryan and Del Fabro as well as Bamba. Wish Redders would give Berardi a go instead of Wooton, think he would have more to offer and make more use of that flank, a lot of Wootons balls go infield. Confident for next year and we still have a couple of young ones good enough, wherses Mcdaid though, needs to be progressing now. mot

Yeah BIGE Murphy was excellent last night. He was all over the pitch and put a lot of tackles in. looks like a different player. Surprising what confidence can do for a player, credit to Redfearn.

Just got home after diversion on A1 (midnight) and wanted to remind you all that Super Mick got the score spot on. All hail the Mighty Mick! OK, the sceptics amongst you would say that every week I predict 2-1 and eventually I'd get it right, but this week I did! Well done me. Oh yeah and Charlie Taylor was outstanding tonight in my opinion. I think Bamba looks tired and if it wasn't for his extendable legs getting last ditch tackles in would have been rinsed a few times.

Night all
