Ibai Gomez. What's that all about? We seem to be missing out again. Was it just paper talk. It surely can't be financial. Does he not like Yorkshire? I can tell him the weather can be cold in Bilbao and just as wet. So, were we just not that interested in acquiring winger?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jan 2019 22:52:42
Never heard any real links to him tbh, would've been nice, but well sign another winger, maybe that Steven Zuber bloke. Can play multiple positions, typical Bielsa player.

I think we've been linked with about every man and his dog so far, as always, any signings will be made public only when the ink is dry on the contract :)

08 Jan 2019 05:24:29
Still not sure there will be any signings. It seems like we may have to do with what we got.
Only time will tell.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 08:20:28
Lots of paper talk and newsnow site rehashing old stories, like Aus I doubt that our management team are wanting to bring anyone in this transfer window. I believe we are waiting to see how the squad react to the next few matches, favourable results and we will stick with what we got. Lose a couple and if injuries still biting then maybe they might act. I think other than spending money on a goalkeeper we will only look to the loan market. Please don't get sucked into the thought that Radz and co are going to spend big money, not this season anyway.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 08:28:54
If they spend a bit now. We will have more chance at going up. And all the riches that brings.
It’s a gamble but one worth taking especially taking into account our league position. $15 mill now might bring in $100s mill next year.
If it doesn’t then we will still be in a better position to go at it next year.
He has done well and he may even pull promotion off without spending but that’s a big ask of the youngsters.
The whole squad has put a shift in this year when needed. Well, minus one that is.
I just think most of them are too young for the dogfight coming.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 09:25:44
Agree with aus, what's a few million invested now if we get promoted, I like using the youngsters and agree with Spanish in what he says about them, but I think we need 2-3 first teamers with quality.

FA Would prob change rules and say newley promoted teams who, s name starts with L and end in S and has EED in the middle only get premier league money after 5 yrs of staying up.

Our problems, such as they are, were known in December (and before) so any new faces could/ would have been sorted prior to Jan therefore the lack of recruitment means that either, a) MB has decided that with the team and the returning injured he has enough for success (and it suits AR not to spend) or b) there just is no money about. Again have we found the only multi-millionaire with no money and a failing business?
Let's hope it's the first and MB is right. Personally I think there is a bit of b) but that a) will see us through. Onwards and upwards.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 17:34:10
If Bielsa has a couple of targets in mind Radz, Kinnear and Orta should be doing everything to get them. We may never get a chance like this to go up for years. With Bamford and Douglas potentially out for some time, Baker on his way back to Chelsea and the other injuries we do look a bit threadbare.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 20:54:16
Radz, orta and kinnear. Wonder if any of them can play in goal, midfield or defence? May have to start using them if we keep letting players go.

Under 23s tonight guys, on the App, 7pm against Hull.

Lots of familiar names in the team, interesting to see how they line up. Huffer, Hosannah, Cooper, Diaz, Pearce, Gotts, mcalmont, Oduor, Stevens, Kun, Edmondson.

Haven't seen the bench yet!

Leeds 2-1 up at half time, goals by Kun and Robbie Gotts. The second is well worth watching. Great fast build up again. Edmondson having a good game leading the line, looks fit and fast, Kun playing 10, one for the future. Robbie Gotts in the midfield today with Mcalmont and both playing well. Pearce left back with Clarke Oduor playing left wing. Cooper so far looking fit and provide some calm and classy touches.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jan 2019 21:01:55
Finished 3-1 to Leeds. Played well in very difficult conditions, very cold and windy and very bad pitch but still tried to play the ball around. Kun got two goals and great influence all over the pitch. Prob, man of the match with Robbie Gotts close behind. Pearce played the full ninety on top of his Sunday cameo, so good for his fitness but surely won’t be starting him on Friday, so Lief or Alioski assuming Douglas still out.

Cooper played 65 ish. Looked good, guess Bielsa will see how he feels tomorrow.

Gotts and Mcalmont didn’t do themselves any harm. I liked seeing Iduor on the wing, good going forward but tracks back well.

Tonight LUFC sits top of the Championship, under 23 development league and third in the u18s, 3 puts off the league with a game in hand!

For want of a less 80’s word; ACE that Spanish! Cheers. Kun is going to be our next superstar, if we can hold on to him I think, but that aside, ta for the insight!

07 Jan 2019 22:36:33
Thanks for the comments. Just lucky, I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment! Best overall performance that I have seen from Kun tonight. Comfortable on the ball, aggressive at winning back, very creative, scores fancy and messy. Plays well with Edmondson as they played a lot of under 18s together. He’s only just getting regular under 23 time. I think it could be a case of him getting more bench time, with a view to getting some minutes later in the season. Although not tall he has a very muscular build which helps him win and keep the ball under a lot of pressure.

Bielsa was there again tonight talking to Andrea Iore, the famous x furniture salesman who came to the club with MC! Now he’s scouting apparently. Great credit again that on a freezing cold and windy night he made the trip.

I think Gotts was all over the place and kept drifting out wide, there was a lot of movement going on. I thought at first at least he was starting more in the centre with Stevens and Hosannah on the right. Bielsa and Corberan are keen to get players getting some experience in different positions.

5 goals and 14 assists for Wolves last season. 0 goals and 3 assists so far us. I really don't think we bought him for his defending because he ain't great at that!
Nah, I don't get the love in.

Bailey Peacock Farrell is an interesting discussion point at the moment with previous threads making comments about his perceived ability. I for one believe that there is a top quality keeper within him but those qualities will not come to prominence for a number of years and therefore we need an experienced keeper to see out the rest of this season. Positioning appears to be a fundamental flaw at the moment and I believe George correctly made the point that BPF has a bad habit of trying to "pinch yards" at set pieces which has been costing us goals of late. Goals conceded from free kicks i. e. Lawerence and Mulgrew he has lined up the wall and then moved about 5 yards off his line which has opened space at his near post (I accept that Lawrence's free kick went over his head) . The pinching of yards is to anticipate a cross ball into the box and therefore not being totally confident in his own reactions (which I think are ok) . BPF has plenty of positives i. e. distribution, shot stopping etc. but is getting found out on this achilles heel. Time is on his side, but for me, a goalkeeper learning his trade is not ideal for a team chasing promotion.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

07 Jan 2019 15:08:54
Then maybe what we need to sign is the best goalkeeping coach we can find. Not a new goalkeeper?

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jan 2019 16:33:06
Possibly leodis, but goalkeepers tend to peak later than out field players. Playing for the first team is great experience for BPF and he will probably learn more about himself than he would on the training pitch. It can be a fine line between building experience and shattering confidence through being solely reliant on BPF. Being "one of our own" should not exempt him from being judged by the same standards that other squad players are. As I have said, bags of potential but needs to learn from his mistakes.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jan 2019 17:05:41
Regarding BPF, I appreciate that being a child of the 50's some of my ideas may seem outdated now but why the hell don't we put guys on the posts at each corner? Look at QPR's winning goal and you can plainly see that even a smaller player like Shacks would have stopped that goal. Maybe we are not helping BPF as much as we could.

We had this drilled into us as kids at school. another good one was “If in doubt kick it out! ” but I don't think Bubba would like that :-)

07 Jan 2019 18:09:25
I think we both agree Notts. He should keep playing but in the background a good goalkeeping coach would put his arm around the young lad. Remind him how good he is Tell him he is not quite perfect yet but this iswhat you need to do to eradicate your faults. Eradicate them on the training pitch and practice the solution in game time.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2019 18:10:25
Great point Sheds, I was screaming at the tv get someone on the post, would have been a simple clearance!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2019 18:23:59
Sheds, totally agree with you.

I posted on here before about "Big Jack" knowing when to hoof it out of the ground.

As for putting players on the posts it is a no-brainer. How many goals did Paul Reaney stop in his career being there? Luckily I saw most of them. I love Marcelo (not in any carnal way you understand) but I wish he would look at and adopt this strategy.

As someone has already pointed out; one of our failings is the poor conversion rate we need to score a goal. Maybe? an extra striker would help but it would also go against Bielsa's history of lone striker. Looking at the charts the problem lies elsewhere when you see Roofe-13, Hernandez-7, Klich-5, Alioski-4, Cooper-3. Other than Roofe none are prolific for a number 1 team. The failing seems to be in the support workers and particularily the No.10 position (the great Saiz? - 1) No, I think the striker is doing ok (school report-could do better) the area we need to brush up on is midfield/ wingers. I know it's not a simple as just telling them to "have a go" but a little bit of tweaking and a few extra goals may save a lot of squeaky bum time come April/ May. The other area that concerns me is our ability to ship goals from set pieces. Other than find two 8ft 6in Centre Backs with the feet of Messi then that's just, get out on the training pitch and practice, practice, practice 'til it's second nature. I have had one heart attack so have my trusty spray but I worry for all you out there, who are a heart attack waiting to happen. Other than find the prettiest girl you can and teach her mouth to mouth there is not a lot I can advise. Just remember. We are Leeds. We do nothing easy! Be Prepared. It could go down to the last kick of the season.

Maybe young Tyler playing no 10 might help, didn't see the QPR game but read some good reviews, and unlike Saiz he's not afraid to pull the trigger.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2019 14:28:02
Very fair post Leo, and it’s been applicable for quite a few seasons now, if I recall correctly from the top of my head!? Harrison has had chances, Alioski has scored, but missed a few too, as well as being somewhat unlucky too. You’re right, the full burden does not lie solely with Roofe.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2019 18:15:16
Tyler has the potential to get a few, wherever he plays. He came into that ball very well and quickly on Sunday. At first looked as if the player next to him was closer. He hit it well, only very bad luck kept that one out. Would have done his confidence a world of good and could have changed the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2019 09:16:48
Although it was not a top priority game think we can take quite a bit from it . Forshaw not a holding midfielder, rate the guy but that's not his position. Baker as a lot of you are saying is highly thought of and talented but he is showing very little with us. No excuse for it as he is an experienced player and can play a lot better than he is so must have some issues which we do not need. Shacks as well as he plays at right back is a midfielder and would have likes Gotts to have a run out and Shacks play in either Bakers or Forshaws position. Halme did enough to be considered for Derby and probably why he was hooked. Pearce also proved he is fit for next game. Roberts not good enough to replace Saiz but will have something to offer before season ends. Ayling not a CB and do not want to see him there again. Leif needs a bit longer before he is ready. BPF still a lot to learn but not a big liability like a lot of our past goalies. Nice to see most of the bench get minutes on the pitch. Thought the team did a good job in the circumstances and although not as dominant as we usually are they held their own and unlucky not to get the draw.

Good Review

I think Roberts has potential, I think Bielsa can see that and is trying him out in different positions. Might be that regular game time with the under 23s for a bit could be better for him than warming the bench. We shall see.

Baker is also worth persevering with, you might be right that there is some off field stuff affecting him. Hopefulky we can settle him and Bielsa can bring out a telling contribution from him.

i like roberts a lot but he needs to show more. I would say similar to early days with roofe in he showed flashes of class but not always enough

baker really not sure about and seems manager is in the same boat

fair play BPF decent performance

so many injuries but douglas is the one that worries me the most, he has been verp impressive and we don't have a replacement

at the start of the season a lot of fans, myself included, were hoping that Pearce would get more of a chance in the first team so hopefully this will be his opportunity to shine.
