So Cook gets offered a one year extension to his contract. Hardly a statement of intent. Will that be enough to put Premier League clubs off or is it just enough to raise his value, cash in and buy another Thomas Bianchi type player and reward them with a four year deal? Hardly a move in the right direction. He should be offering the likes of Cook a four year deal!

Agree thought he would have tied him down for at least three. Do not know what's in the contract though, could be reviewed next year for premiership wages

Yeah let's hope so BIGE. I was hoping Cellino would come back and make some bold statements with the youngsters to frighten the big boys off. Early days though I guess.

If he signed a 10 year contract, he could have a get out clause written in it! Forget loyalty from any players now adays! Even though he came through the ranks and he's Leeds through and through, as the saying goes! He'll be off like a shot, if a better offer is presented to him!!

Sad but true. kjc is right, Contacts don't mean anything these days.

Too true kjc, if any of the top five come in with a big bid it means he will get a big signing fee and he's made for life. We have to realise that we can not compete with their wages and sadly loyalty is not always the governing factor. It all depends on how the money is used and what calibre of player we get to replace whoever goes. If Byram went for ten mill and we got a top striker and pacy winger for 8 mill I would be okay with that

Contacts are pretty good but Contracts are better lol seriously though 1yr ext or 10yrs no difference still sell if the price is right or the player wants the move & if it's Prem & or top half Prem club he'll want the move!! loyalty does not guarantee or provide a future!

Murphy had an awful first season and looked how he did this term. Bianchi had a half decent season when he played and at 25 still has a lot to offer. Can't believe the stick he gets, I think its because he's one of Cellino's

I agree about contracts not being worth a penny but a player with one year left on their contract can simply run it down and go for nothing. The player would get a better salary as they didn't have to pay a fee. At least if the player is contracted we would get a fee and the the least time left on the contract the smaller the fee.

I thought cook's contract was actually up at end of season so he should be on 4yr one with things in it to increase wage because of his age

We do not know what the contract is only what we read in press, one says its 3 years. This is where club goes wrong, if he has a contract we should know or club should refute rumours as I suppose they can not say anything until its agreed and signed.

Spot on MM - seems to be misplaced loyalty in the club
I say show intent and offer the likes of Cook, Mowatt & Byram a really good deal to commit to the club till 2020 with a promised improvement if we reach the PL. Also a better deal for Taylor
