Use our rumours form to send us leeds transfer rumours.

09 Apr 2012 23:20:33
NW has a tricky job on his hands next year tbh. He has to keep the players that do have the ability we need (snoddy, clayton, lees), who I'm sure will be attracting bigger and better teams, who in turn will offer better wages. But not only that, the man has a few weeks to bring in players who can make an immediate impact. Howson's departure left a huge dent in our midfield in which we have yet to repair, Gradel yet to be replaced (seriously lacking the pace and flair he gave us going forward). If the Ambrose and Clingan rumours are true, then the future looks bright, but being the sceptic, how many times have we been linked with Clingan? Personally I think Loners is a bit inconsistant, and Paddy Kenny would for me be a top signing. Safe to say our defence needs an extreme make-over, a solid 6ft 'brick-wall' CB (Gorkss for example) with experience is vital. Lees really does have potential, but like so many of our players, consistancy is a real issue. He needs to start to play well 8,9,10 games out of 10. not just 4 or 5, and stop making unforced errors. Robbo at LB is key. simple as. He is strong, experienced, a real breath of fresh air to our team, so bringing him in next season is a must, as for our RB situation, a new face is definately needed in my eyes. Brown, looks solid, but for me, despite being experienced is just not what we need, dives in to tackles too often, concedes way too many fouls, and the last thing we need is 10 men on the pitch. Finally a new ST, our long balls forward to Becchio just doesn't seem to work, he may be tall, and a physical presence, but when up against a solid CB he is ruled out of the game straight away. RANT OVER ;)

Needed: GK (Kenny)
2x CB's
RB
LB (Robbo)
2x CM's
LM/W
ST

practically a new squad!

I don't think we need robinson we someone who is faster

Hopefully Robinson can help Aidy White to add some toughness to his game.

To all the grayson haters hope ye realise what a good job he was doin with the players at his disposal and no money, Never wanted warnock and his style of football doesnt suit are players who were excellent under grayson, clayton looks lost as warnocks long ball has some of are better look crap McCormack, Clayton, Snodgrass and White. the only thing warnock has given us is tenacity and united but honestly ask urself will dis muppet get us promoted with limited funds and clearly a crap side as he keeps telling us and the media must be doing the players confidence great next season will be long and tough for leeds unless he has serious investment from bates

Believable2 Unbelievable8

I think to say the players were excellent under Grayson is a bit of a stretch

Agree5 Disagree1

Once warnock gets his own players then the style hes trying to get the players to play will work. Of course some play better under a different approach but that's why warnock will clear out those who can't play his way.

Agree2 Disagree1

I think most rational Leeds fans are willing to give warnock the chance to build his own team given his previous record. However he was brought in to ' get the best out the players we have' and on that count he has patently failed, and so we can now see Grayson was making the best of a bad job. The decision to sack him when we did was the wrong one, he should have been given the rest of the season. Changing managers mid season for mid Table teams never works.

Agree6 Disagree0

I tend to agree with first poster, not excellent, but they were certainly a lot better than they are now. Said it before, let's not confuse kick and rush football for passion. Always needed a better defence, but long ball style, cutting out our midfield has taken away our creativity and goals!

The problem at Leeds is obvious.
We're so divided at the moment. The manager doesn't want half his squad and is quite happy to say so. The fans don't want half the squad or the chairman & are quite happy to say so. The chairman is quite happy to say what he likes about the team and the fans.
Morale must be terrible.
Next season:
The manager needs to publicly back his players in a positive way like he did when he first arrived (even when things are going wrong).
The fans need to stop bitching about the chairman, about the team, about the manager about the style of play and concentrate on creating the old intimidating atmosphere that used to make opposition teams pap themselves.
The old man needs to shut his big gob and concentrate on his money grabbing.
If we work as a team off the pitch the team will play better on the pitch. With all the division amongst us It's no coincidence that we've been decent away and shocking at home.
Playing away games must be a break.
MOT

Believable13 Unbelievable1

If it only it were that simple. Some of us object to paying the 5th highest ticket price in the country only to see it frittered on 'improving' a half-empty stadium and disappearing to offshore companies when it should be going into building a team.

Agree7 Disagree2

New manager needs his own players - simple ! Neil is a step dad at the moment and he has a STEP team - it doesnt gel as well as one would like. This dying side is larrys half baked attempt at a champ side - and it is not good enough - inconsistent and too slow - bring on the summer signings and new 'character'

Agree6 Disagree0

Have we now lost more home games than any one else?? I wouldn't be surprised!! What an absolute joke of a club we are at the min. All my mates can't stop laughing at how bad we are....im so embarrassed

Agree5 Disagree2

This habit of trying to justify the current performances by blaming Grayson is pathetic. How many teams do you see shoot up the table when a new manager arrives, even with the same players? Sunderland being a case in point. It also flies in the face of Harvey's reasoning for sacking Grayson.

I agree Warnock needs his own team before we can judge him but you have to be fair and admit that Larry's real team was taken from him - Johnson, Gradel, Howson, Kilkenny, 4 of his midfield 5 all gone. That was the heart of the team that came so close to the playoffs last year and it was destroyed by money grabbing Bates.

We can only progress with proper investment in the team not the ground. The latest accounts reveal once again we've been lied to by Bates - turns out he's sold two years' worth of season ticket sales and sold some shares to fund the ground when some of that could have gone into the team.

Agree5 Disagree1

A hearty round of applause from me to the original poster. I nearly didn't even bother going to the game today and I'm a Season Ticket holder.

The atmosphere for home games this season has been non-existant apart from the West Ham game and to a lesser degree the Southampton game.

Today only McCormack, Becchio and O'Dea looked interested.

So how do we move forward? It wouldn't be a huge surprise if we have to sell players to fund Warnock's revolution - and if we do, I would let Snodgrass and Clayton go.

"What?" I hear you cry. Well Snodgrass usually gives his all, and he has plenty of tricks, but he's too slow. Nowadays he usually finds himself surrounded by two or three opposition defenders and he simply isn't good enough to cope with that. If he thinks he's good enough for the Premiership, let him go and find out and give NW the money to spend.

Clayton struts about with his collar turned up and appears to have the attitude of a bloke who thinks he's far better than he is. Cash in, we can and must find better midfielders than him.

Hopefully, whoever comes and whoever goes during the summer, we can all come back in August with some BELIEF. I have actually seen worse players wear the famous white shirt than the current set - some of Bremner's signings stay in the memory for all the wrong reasons - but I have never known such a lifeless atmosphere at Elland Road.

Keep the faith folks! MOT!!

Agree7 Disagree2

At present, Snodgrass is probably the most overrated player in this division. However, it must be difficult for someone who is undoubtedly talented to also be the captain and must be seen to be trying harder than anyone else. He tends to try and take on the whole of the opposition team on his own as if it is his fault when the team is losing. As much of an honour being captain undoubtedly is maybe it will be better next season to give the captaincy to someone else so he can concentrate on what he is good at. As for the remainder of the players, with the exception of Clayton and McCormack I don't think many fans will be too upset if they are sold on wherever possible and replaced with experienced players with the will to win.

play the under 18s for last four games and drop the first team !!!!!!!!!!!1

Believable11 Unbelievable2

Don't know about all of them but certainly give a look at the Taylor's, Gimpel, Poleon and the other striker I cant remember his name...sorry.
At the very least it gives them first team experience. Also give Rogers, Nunez, Paynter and OB a run out, see what they can do.

Agree6 Disagree0

All this "give the kids a go" talk makes me laugh. If they were good enough for the first team, they'd already be there.

lets just forget this season [ i did weeks ago ] warnock is the right man to take us forward [with the backing of the board] a good clear out in the summer hopefuly bring in some top players for next season . with all this and a good pre season i hope next season we can go for it. also if bates dropped ticket prices a bit get bigger crowds that brings a better atmosphere to er . sounds simple doesnt it

Believable5 Unbelievable0

The pricing of the tickets will always be an issue here but as a business i suppose at the end of the season then the books have got to balance and reducing the prices does not necessarily mean that crowds will increase, spend more money, etc and make up the shortfall. WBA have just announced a £50 reduction in the price of a season ticket for next year meaning that an adult can watch Premiership football for £349 per season. However, they have income from TV and other areas that we do not have. I don't think that it is the pricing of the tickets that are keeping fans away rather the standard of football. If I wasn't a season ticket holder than it is likely I would think twice about buying a ticket for every game simply because the football is dire! Give the fans good football and passion from the team and they will return sooner rather than later.

time for warnock to go

Believable6 Unbelievable15

What a stupid comment, its still Graysons team hes struggling with, wait while hes brought his own players in before judging him, suppose you want Grayson and Smith back as well eh.

Agree8 Disagree2

Really? the teams going no where and the players aint bothering

Agree2 Disagree1

Ferguson couldn't do anything with that squad, larry over achieved ALL BE IT WITH A LOT OF POOR SIGNINGS that he made...

Agree4 Disagree0

No smith .it is team he putting out every week and we gone backwords under him

Agree2 Disagree0

Larry also made a lot of good signings - Gradel, Clayton, McCormack to name but three. He was undermined by having the likes of Gradel sold.

Go back and read Harvey's post-sacking comments. Grayson was sacked to enable a new manager to do better with the current squad. Warnock, if he's a better manager, should be getting more out of these players.

Personally I disagree with the first poster, Warnock should be given time to build a team, but trying to blame Grayson for Warnock's failure to galvanise the squad is equally stupid frankly.

Agree6 Disagree2

Ferguson would be ok because he's always got the ref and linesmen to rely on for help.

Agree4 Disagree1

Read back original poster..... you are a ....

Agree2 Disagree0

Don't know about time for Warnock to go but it's time for you to go to bed.
Take your milk and cookies. Mummy's going to read you Spot The Dog when you get up there.

The team that won us promotion where a lot better than the current squad! Personally feel that our u-18's could be a stronger squad...

Believable10 Unbelievable0

Bates cashed in on Schmeichel, Gradel & Howson, refused to put decent money on the table for Johnson, Beckford & Kilkenny to stay and yet most of the 'supporters' on here are blaming Grayson for our poor squad.

Lay the blame where it's due. BATES OUT.

Agree10 Disagree8

Beckford Johnson and Howson left for Premiership football; Schmeichal was no superstar but I agree that Kilkenny should have been offered more to stay. Its a bit off when Bristol City are paying more in wages than Leeds!

Well..we are not going down....
after 40 years of ups and downs i will accept this season..and look to Warnock to rebuild.

Possible ? yes but with backing from Bates and from us

MOT

Believable7 Unbelievable3

We are so poor warnock not improved anything with this side and why did he change the side after a very positive display on friday o'dea and connolly are woeful we need a real sort out in the summer or we could be back in league 1 hope the chairman will back the manager

Agree3 Disagree4

I think we should all be thanking Grayson for making sure we were safe from relegation before he got sacked. If things carry on as they are we're only going out of this division one way.

Agree6 Disagree5

And Larry is really ripping up the league one table isn`t he ?
After next season judge Warnock, not with the sh... we have now.
"T"

Agree7 Disagree2

2 points per game - how many's Warnock on? And where would we be if that had been the case all season? Go do some maths and then explain how things have improved.

Also, if your logic's going to be consistently applied, then Larry should be judged next season for Huddersfield, not this..

Its gettin harder to support Leeds. Just not good enough at Elland Road. Players just not good enough to wear the great white shirt. Totally fed up watching this rubbish week in and out. Anyone got a clue what's happenin recently.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Yes - our best players have been sold or allowed to go on free transfers. A good manager was blamed for the consequent decline in performance, unfairly sacked and replaced by someone who seems to be making things worse.

In fairness to Warnock, I'd like to see what he can with his own players next season, but I'm not exactly full of optimism.

Is this the worst Leeds team ever?

Believable10 Unbelievable4

They should be fed to the lions at least that would be entertaining

Agree5 Disagree0

The problem is most of them know there not wanted in the summer so don't really give monkeys any more ,but bates lack of investment is really showing now

Agree3 Disagree0

Not sure ive seen Leon Constantine and Anthony Elding up front surely cant be that bad

Agree1 Disagree0

Nope this isn't the worst Leeds team ever. They are just devoid of confidence, and many of them know they are going in the summer and frankly aren't too bothered any more.

Have you forgot David Lucas, Ian Westlake, Paul Telfer, Ben Parker? Going further back there was Ronnie Robinson, David Harle, Brian Caswell, Russell Doig. Even during the heady (though trophy-less) days around 2000-2001 there was Jacob Burns.

Over the years we've had some world class players, but my goodness we've also had some rubbish!

FFS this is pathetic. Watching the live txt being an Aussie Leeds supporter, i Have no idea what the red card was for in the context of the game but enough is enough. Grow some balls lads, toughen up and play smarter. Im sure all supporters are tired of being let down with constant red cards. Come and play Aussie rules for a bit and you'll learn some resilience. Is it just me or is it the lesser lights who prob don't deserve to hang around next year earn all of the red cards? If we can salvage this it will be a performance and a half. {Ed020's Note - tackle with studs showing, thats why brown was sent off}

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I'm only surprised that Brown doesn't get more red cards

Andre Wisdom of Liverpool.
19 Years old. Reserves captain, has captained England U20's, has been on the bench for the first team.
Pacey, mature & strong.
Plays Central Defence, Right Back or Central Midfield.
Born in Leeds
Inevitably would be nicknamed "Norman" by the fans though lol

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Please let us get him please! I'm praying to everyone possible

Agree2 Disagree1

Liverpoll paid £50k to Bradford City for him when he was 14....might get him on loan but suspect Liverpool see a big future for him at Anfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

A loan would be ok for both them and us. I posted this and from what I hear he's something special.
I suspect he and Liverpool would love him getting a full season here. Toughen him up in this division and playing under pressure. My mates in Liverpool tell me he has a very good chance of playing for England one day. I never for one moment thought Liverpool would sell him I just thought a season loan would be great for both parties.
They reckon he's strong as an ox, composed and plays like someone with far more experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Apr 2012 11:37:37
Bates criticises of Grayson for having too many players, well if you pay peanuts you can only attract monkeys, if he had given him mone y yo compete in the market maybe he could have bought some quality but Bates would always raise the spectre of the Ridsdale era as reason not to pay over the odds. He thought that he could bring in Warnock as a miracle worker to bring the best out of our squad without spening any money before the transfer window closed. Well Warnock has not been able to work miracles and although he might have saved money in the short term he will now find Warnock will be knocking on his door with more authority than Grayson and telling him to get his hands in his pocket and he will not be fobbed off with a few quid on cheapies, so now we will see Bates bluff called and I can't wait for his response.

Believable6 Unbelievable4

I'm sure Grayson could have made the decision to go for quality over quantity. He has paid the price so let's move on. I was a Grayson fan but it's clear to see now this is the best move forward. The defence needed to be sorted last season, let alone this season. What's done is done, bring on next season!!

I want to know what everyone thinks our best possible starting 11 could be for next season?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

With Warnock saying we need 7 new 1st team players

Lonergan
Sam Ricketts(free agent)
Paul Robinson(free agent)
Clint Hill(free agent)
Matthew Connolly(free agent)
Snodgrass
Sammy Clingan(free agent)
Clayton
Jerome Thomas(free agent)
Ched Evans(free agent)
McCormack

Looks like a Warnock team to me and done the Bates way, Freebies!

Subs from Pugh, Becchio, White, Lees, Darren O'Dea(free agent), Somma, Alan Smith(free agent), Connolly, Thompson, Rogers, Webber, Cairns, Bromby (or Bruce)

Agree2 Disagree2

Pure fantasy - especially the mention Alan Finished Smith.

Agree4 Disagree2

Warnock has already said he has identified 5 players and some would command a transfer fee,i personally hope we don't get any old players back in,i think warnock has been around long enough to know what type of players/leaders we need

Agree0 Disagree0

How the hell is Smith better than what weve got, high time his name stopped being linked with us,give it a rest.

Agree1 Disagree1

The only ex player I want back is max

Agree4 Disagree1

Some of you need to read what Warnock has said about Smith in the past, nothing but praise, if Smith will come Warnock will take him

Agree1 Disagree3

Reality check - Alan Finished Smith can't do any better than the bench for LEAGUE ONE MK Dons.

Agree2 Disagree0

Only because he's not fit enough for two games in three days he's been playing regularly up tO then

Agree0 Disagree1

Go and watch MK Dons then if you like him that much, because he ISN'T coming back to Leeds.
