09 Aug 2018 22:49:03
Yes slightly disappointed with end to widow. We apparently had 20mil kitty and incomings ( bam/ Doug) for? 11mil, then 3 loans ( baker/ jam/ harri) , no big outlay but maybe 4.5mil in wages per year
Sold vieira 7 mil so should have approx 12- 16 mil credit?
If rads really wants promotion and the rewards it reaps, has to spend as this squad not good enough.
Should have brought in CB, defense middle man to replace veira, another winger like Maddison and feel a pacey striker, then would have cover for every position to cover injuries/ suspensions. Need some loans now, Nmecha, foyth etc.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

09 Aug 2018 23:35:13
Nmecha out on loan too Preston I think.
I think we may get a good couple off top loans on top money in next few weeks. Here’s hoping.
⚽️⚽️👍😀.

Nmecha took his boots to PNE
Think the plan was always going to be loan market but its getting right people over the line to help us.

I think the budget is included for January too, and we also have a loan window.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2018 06:03:12
I don't know why we are talking about January. When we were told there's no value in the window.

Agree1 Disagree1

10 Aug 2018 08:03:05
Too right wex.
To me. January transfer window is for teams and management that didn’t plan and get the right players to do the job preseason. Oh wait. That is us.
Well it’s all over now. Maybe couple of loans. Maybe not.
One thing is for sure. Biesla must be happy with what he has got cause radz wouldn’t risk him having a strop and storming out.
Let’s see how he does though. So far so good. Maybe he is a maestro and maybe he has got enough nous and players for the job. Time will tell.
Not that keen on the kit tbh.

I bet Sky were cursing their luck that Range Rover Harry is out of work. He is good entertainment though, Last year when asked about his new signings he said: "when the new additions bed in you will see a different Bournemouth team" this was while he was the Manager of Birmingham!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 18:40:50
Not surprised with lack transfer business today, think strategy was always around picking up some premier off casts on loan, but that doesn’t explain why we didn’t go for Maddison or that anyone else did? George, what’s the skinny on that one, guy must be gutted his age and record screamed bargain but then the Posh Chairman is notoriously tight on these deals! Hi hum let’s hope we get the right loan deals we still need a few for the marathon that is this League.

Some are getting carried away here on the back of one game. Fact is we haven't strengthened enough to gain 6/ 7 places in the league. And now the ones that call me negative are left with all their hopes on the loan market. Radz and co have promised a war chest and delivered a tea caddy.

Agree5 Disagree3

09 Aug 2018 23:08:25
Dave the regulars here will tell you I was ine of the most positive posters here but I have come to realize we are being sold a lemon Radz is a fraud.

Agree5 Disagree2

09 Aug 2018 23:42:11
How can you say that with the manager he has brought in after ballsing up with the others. They type off player we have got over last couple off weeks compared too last seasons and it’s been a learning curve for rads too. He’s made mistakes and has said so as has orta. So I think it’s a positive step with how he’s approached this season. And a good few top loans with view too sign permanently will do just great. MOT. ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️👍.

Agree1 Disagree1

10 Aug 2018 00:04:35
Wex, I’m not sure who on here “ are getting carried away here on the back of one game”. I’m not, for me it’s game by game until the end of the month, after Derby, Swansea and Middlesbrough, I think by then, we will have a much better idea of how the tactics work against good teams and whether we can produce them game after game. Remember, this squad doesn’t “need to be good enough to get us to promotion”, it needs to be good enough after the loan period ends to get us close to a top six position by year end! there’s another month window!

I think the most common theme on here is, let’s get behind the team and see what happens. Spending doesn’t guarantee promotion, getting the right players, finding a way of gelling a team together and getting extra performance out of the fringe players can and I think there is still not enough evidence to write that off! Let’s see how everyone feels at the end of August.

Come on guys. Leave Wex alone. He is entitled to his opinion, as are we all, even if it doesn't come across as too positive

Personally i am happy with this summers deals. 2 very good signings in and no "crown jewels" moving out.

Yes, i don't believe Viera was a crown jewel. A good youngster, but not a game changer

Having Henandez re-sign and Kilch prove a previous coach he was wrong has also been brilliant pieces of business. And don't forget all the contract extensions that have happened for our U23s

In fact, for me the best bit has been our ability to find clubs for a lot of the lesser-abled Leeds United players. Some to gain valuable experience and others to find pastures new

Thank you Radz et all. I am feeling like i am supporting a stable club again.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2018 10:10:16
Radz selling us lemons? I really, really don't get the anti Radz hype. We've had some s**t owners and I think some people have fallen in to the mentality of if an owner doesn't come in, hop off his yacht and buy aguero, messi and Ronaldo whilst giving away season tickets in White Rose then they're also s**t. Give the guy a break, he's bought back the stadium, he's made the best signings in recent years. I remember when we were all over the moon at the fact Leeds united spent 1 million on Murphy. The guys the best owner we've had in a long, long time. ALAW.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 18:25:44
5 signings, 2 permanent, loan window closing end it the month. That's a good summer window if you ask me. A couple more loans in then that should build a squad ready for rotation to save the legs.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

09 Aug 2018 19:45:22
Only average in my book LIG. The next 3 weeks will determine how successful the window has been. It's been a hugely successful window though in terms of dross eradication. Just Ekumiss Okannot and Anita to ship out now.

Agree4 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 20:38:11
Bang average. But 2 good signings say adomah and woods and a quality cb on loan. We could have been contenders.

Agree2 Disagree1

09 Aug 2018 22:16:21
I agree with both of you, in a way. Our opportunity to bring in more is not over. 3 more will do.

Agree0 Disagree2

09 Aug 2018 22:32:40
hit and miss, douglas was amazing, bamford i think will also be worth weight in gold, blackman decent baker. meh. but all pointless unless we bring in one good CB, we all know our defence is not good enough, it wasn't last year and will not be this year either, all good when playing well but when things get hard (like at places like millwall and cardiff) Leeds defence never stands a chance, also mistakes will yet again cost us. going in the right direction but with such a poor defence i can't believe we have not been able to make it stronger.

Agree0 Disagree2

09 Aug 2018 23:45:58

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2018 08:13:05
A lot of fair points here both positive and negative, I think we all accept despite the great start the squad is still a bit light especially at Centre Back. Personally as I have said on here I did hope for a bit of permanent business yesterday, but as that didn't happen let's see if the powers that be are men of their word and get some additional quality from the loan market. Then if we are challenging after Xmas, strengthen again in the next window which previous owners failed to do when we were in a good position.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2018 14:10:10
George

Personally I think Ekuban should stay.

I watched Roofe against Stoke and thought that Ekuban can do that job. I totally agree that goalscoring-wise he wasn't there last season (mind you neither were Jermaine Beckford, Ross McCormack or Chris Wood in their first seasons) but actually Roofe didn't score in the Stoke game either. But Ekuban is bigger and faster than Roofe and seemed to have a pretty decent engine last year.

we should spell Roofe off in the lesser games but keep the same forward intensity.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2018 23:35:26
Axe I agree. I liked Eku at first. His problem is in front of goal he fluffs his lines. Like rabbit in headlights. I don't mind a 1 in 4 striker if he's a workhorse but he's closer to a 1 in 8. He needs a loan to League One.

09 Aug 2018 19:18:16
Let's hope we have a couple of quality loan signings lined up as despite how good we were on Sunday we are lightweight in certain positions, especially if we get our share of injuries and suspensions. I am sure the Manager will want to strengthen his squad, so the hierarchy need to do right by him and show they are as committed as he is to hopefully having a successful season.

Not so nice watching every player we were linked with in the last month rocking up at our rivals

Possibly just Pennington

Do sometimes wonder if it’s all just a smokescreen and we never were in for this or that £8m player in the first place.

09 Aug 2018 16:01:29
All the stuff in the press is like sky sports on deadline day, an attempt to create lots of drama and create a buzz pre premier league season. Who really knows who we have been seriously after. The right people on loans could be better than hasty last minute purchases. By the end of the day and after the European window closes the big premier sides will be clearing out their fringe players. Not had anyone from Spurs yet. Have trust in Bielsa. When you look at his 18/ 22/ 24 approach to the numbers, it’s not a bad set of players and Pennington will be alright in the 22.

I was wrong about the game against Stoke although it could have been a lot closer except for the crossbar, Cooper's foot and BPF's instinctive close range save. Just watched Bielsa live, excellent! Legend in the making! He tries to give very honest answers. Gave great specifics on the number of players he wants 22 with 2/ 3 identified on the edges to come in for injuries or suspensions, Clarke and Edmondson in this group. Of the 22, 4 are players in development, he mentioned Roberts, Pearce, Shackleton and Shaunessy in this group. Then 18 that would be the expected nucleus of the team.

He has very clear views that he tries to explain through the interpreter, very little bullshit or fobbing off in his answers. Worth watching, good Spanish lesson as well, albeit with the Argentinian pronunciation!

Who is good on EFL loan rules, don't know why but George springs to mind!

Is this still the case?

" Under the new rules, Football League clubs will still be prohibited from selecting more than five loan players in their 18-man match-day squad. They will also be prevented from borrowing more than four players a season from any one club, and no more than two over the age of 23."

If it is, implications for further loans, Blackman and Baker are over 23 no? Looks generous on other clubs, still plenty of scope for more City, Chelsea or even Spurs boys, but they would ideally need to be under 23? Am I right? Has it changed since this rule in 2016?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2018 11:38:54
i know five in one squad is true and think it is two from any club regardless of age (might be wrong there)

if paying loan the parent club can not terminate but if just covering wages the clu bcan recall player at any time

know this because of my time as millwall expert on Sega Football manager.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 11:57:08
Spanish Thanks for the vote of confidence. As I understand, those are the rules. Blackman is 24 but Baker is 23. Since Baker is 23 and 4 months I believe, I'm going to say he is "over 23". That indeed suggests no more over 23 this season via loan but the drafting you've regaled isn't super clear. Does the "no more than 2" relate to the no more than 4 from one club or is it generally? If Baker is considered "over 23" which I think he will be, trying to loan Fabregas is obviously out (forget his weekly wage and likelihood, point is he's 31) but could we loan say Milner or is that forbidden by virtue of the ages of Baker and Blackman? The answer in my opinion is yes Milner still possible because the "2 can't be over 23" rule relates to the specific club they're from. So Fabregas is out but Milner could be done. I believe this is the correct interpretation of the rules. You can actually have up to a maximum of 8 loan players, just no more than 5 in a matchday 18 I think. Need to lie down in a darkened room now. Having answered your call Spanish, with just over 5 hours left of the window maybe it's time for me to go to bed, just yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 12:09:32
Spanish I think we'll see the 5pm deadline pass with no-one in or out because of the effective "workaround" until the end of the month. We could pull off up to 5 "loan to perm" deals by 31st so long as we don't infringe that rule about 23 year olds. Norwood could well be our first loan with option to buy any time today or to be completed over the next 3 weeks. So it could mean Salah not out of our sights just yet! LOL. Equally, it means any of our players can be pounced upon in similar fashion. I think. Still need to lie down in darkened room.

Thanks Georgie! Your prize for your rules expertise will be your fave player back on loan! Pennington pens by 5pm! Hope you are right about Norwood! The Dallas news might influence things as well.

Hopefully not Spaniard. I'm sending Martyn up to Goodison Park to barricade in Pennington until 5.01pm.

Morning guys and gals
Even though I asm a mighty white supporter and find it hard to go to matches-either because of money or work even though I try go when they do offers like Birmingham and Burton, i watch every match on Sky. I might be biased but having seen the recent matches, we have been absolutely brilliant and think we have a great chance this season attacking wise brilliantjust hope we can geta defender in just hope Ayling doesn't go as reported to west brom.

It’s only been one game.
We were top of the tree last September and bombed.
We played well. Def in the first half.
But it’s a marathon season.

We are all right to be very cautious. For me each game will give us more of the picture. Very keen to see how we do against Derby, a strong team from the last two seasons, lots of new players there and away. Also they will have had a chance to watch our game, so interesting to see how a team try’s to deal with our approach at home.

Then Rotherham, will give us an idea of how we go against a perceived weaker team at home, potentially a goal feast! But also perhaps a chance to change a few faces.

Finally, I do think, this years first month is a tougher selection of fixtures, so how we do at the end of that month might be a little bit more realistic after games against, Stoke, Derby, Swansea and Middlesbrough!

it is hard not to look at last year and be cautions but I see a lot of positives and negitives and differences

POSITIVES
1. last year we did well until the manager (who was limited) was found out. This year our manager must be seen as stronger so this should be better
2. last year we did well until up against a hard team that battled) (millwall) and the winter months due to siginging that were good but didn't know league. This year those players know league better and all our sigingings know leauge and are british so this year should be better
3. last year our opening fixtures were easy so results flattered, this year we will know better and as a hard run of games (last year we never beat a promotion fav like stoke)

NEGITIVES
1. the players last year who are not good enough seem to still have a major role, surely over time Roofe, Dallas, Phillips, Cooper and Beradi will show quality is not enough, this may cost us again I fear
2. manager is very hard working and style is demanding do we have sqaud and bodies that can cope with this or will we fall down come XMAS?

no one knows the answers but should be fun finding out as long as we are in and around promotion to keep season alive i am happy nothing worse than the season being over by xmas.

Good stuff Bermondsey.

I think your point 1 in the negs could be the key to our season, how much can Bielsa improve those “fringe” players. It seems clear at the moment that he thinks they are good enough to be in his 18. What I like about him is he seems to be very clear about his system, his intentions and his view on the players. It is all about their skills and performance and he is basing his views on how the players are responding to him. How many people would have looked at the Leicester team and thought that all those players could perform at that level for a whole season with the pressure of the last few months. But they couldn’t do it again. This group of players is for this year, with one objective, if Leicester did what they did with a number of journey men in the team surely it shows it is possible?

I think that is one part of the window that hasn’t been mentioned much for us, and it’s important that it doesn’t change today. We look to be keeping, Pontus, Luke, Sammy and Kemar.

That in itself is good business, particular after their sales advert on Sunday! Losing Viera, when it seemed clear he wasn’t going to be a first pick, for that much money and if it is true, he was given doubled wages, was probably unavoidable and manageable. There is a lot of last minute panicked spending today, vital that we don’t lose a body else!

I'd love a sit down with Rad because I'm amazed he can't see that promotion is there for the taking. Spend another say 15 mill tops on transfers and he's got the golden ticket. IMO it's not a great league this year no matter what others have said and we have an almighty chance of promotion. Get Woods a good CB and another striker of calibre and let Marcelo do the rest. Don't care really if they are buys are loans as long as they can have the necessary impact on the squad and understand we are Leeds.

Why risk league 1 again for the sake of a 1 season gamble? OK £15m is not a big amount these days but it doesn't include wages and we could fall fowl of the FFP rules. Sure Mr Harvey would love that! I'd imagine Radz has paid a pretty penny for Mr Bub and all his backroom staff so not sure how much there's left in the kitty to be honest. Steady rebuild is the way to go, not all out to try to do it in one season. I know us supporters and most clubs boards want pretty much instant succes for the riches of the premier league but I trust and have faith in Radz. believe he is doing the right thing by investing in a highly rated manager, hopefuly he will be able to get the best out of a half decent team, in the Leicester mould under Ranieri.

15 Mil with a guarantee of promotion is chickenfeed Corky but no investment comes with guarantees so may be a step too far. I tend to think like Lucas. Moderation in all things. Slowly, slowly and we will get there, maybe not this year, but when we do we will be in good shape, on and off the pitch.

Corkwhite as long as the 15 mil doesn’t come from the sale of Ayling, Radz dose worry me when it’s comes to money.

I think so far, we have had a strong window. Even two more quality loans perhaps with the option to buy will make an enormous difference.

With all the outgoings and the 49s investment, I would think it is debatable if we are even a penny in the red on our dealings up to now. Radz does seem to be cautious and that isn't a bad thing, but Kinnear did on his season ticket sales drive tell us how much we had to spend so a little bit of speculate to accumulate could just be the difference between success and failure this season.
