Possibly, 9 April, is the day many of us secretly realised that we are probably facing another year of Championship slog.
The football last night was a repeat of the last few games. With defence holding its own but mid and attack woefully letting us down. From an imperious bossing midfield we have somehow managed to look very ordinary whilst upfront we have the usually reliable wingers unable to shake off the markers, being doubled (sometimes tripled) up on. As for striker, that seems to be the biggest disappointment with a player who is so obviously out of form and a replacement who though full of potential has never been tested over 90 mins.
Whilst we quite obviously have a crises on our hands it is way too easy to blame the manager. Yes, we can all see his reluctance to change personnel but who got us here in the first place. Who had his team ripped apart before he had even started. Who moulded a team to get us 90ish points when many, at the start of the season, would have been happy with mid table.
Certainly the man is not perfect but he has us second and not dead yet. I have my own wish list and theory of what it will take but for all our well meaning punditry, there is only one man who can make it happen so let's let him get on with it "in Farke we trust".
If the promised land does not materialise and we are doomed to "one more season" then let's just be gratefull for the 23/ 24 ride. Not every horse can win the National. Maybe it's a furlong too far.

Well said Leodis.

We are, as you point out, not dead yet - need a big favour from Watford tonight (and everyone else who is due to play Ipswich) plus I would imagine that there are a lot of Leicester fans feeling the same way we are this morning.

These final hurdles are seemingly getting larger!

One crumb of comfort, my brother has decided to stop picking Leeds as part of his accumulator so we might start winning again:)

10 Apr 2024 14:41:02
Great post Leodis!

10 Apr 2024 19:14:57
With you on that Leodis. Although punters would have us as winners before that game last night, who would of had Leicester being beaten by lowly Millwall.?
Believe me, a lot can happen in these four remaining games. Never give up and in Farke we trust ✊🏻.

10 Apr 2024 10:19:26
We are all looking to our forward line and expecting the same players to score or create. BUt in the last 2 games we have had over 20 corners plus numerous free kicks into the box. Can you remember a head on target? Or even a head? I think the last goal from a corner was struijk.
No goals from midfield. We need contributions from elsewhere.
In my opinion our play last night was marginally better than the last 2 games.
I was one who spoke up for Bamford but will admit his confidence is shot. He did have chances to pull the trigger in games and been off it.
I don't know if anyone else noticed the lack of ball to archie and dj. Time after time archie was in space and rodon turned back inside. The passes they did get were poor and sometimes overhit.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Apr 2024 10:38:01
All good points Chris.

Recruitment not been good enough in midfield especially.

10 Apr 2024 11:05:41
What I noticed Ben, was that every time the ball [eventually] went to Archie [after taking an age to beat the Sunderland press], he would immediately pass straight back to Rodon or via Gruev, who then sent it back to Mes. and repeat. Our right side was utterly inert last night.

The night was perplexing all up; strange initial line-up, given relative form of a few, really late subs, really ponderous play, even though we know, and the players certainly do, that pace up front is our real strength.

I think the expectation is beginning to tell and they're not coping.

4 Wins is basically a must now. Southampton getting back into contention, especially now; they they play us and Leicester who are struggling to get results.

10 Apr 2024 11:24:56
I KEEP SAYING IT! Playing 6 defenders at this point
(goals needed) and playing our best striker only 8 mins. a game won't get us promoted. Start Willy in one of the midfield positions to give us more creativity and Joseph over DF's favorite donkey Bamford.

GOALS WIN GAMES!

10 Apr 2024 13:34:27
I think ani that archie preferred playing with gnonto in front of him they had a good link up and ball retention. I can only think that gnonto is not 100 % because he was probably the most in form before the internationals.
In that position archie needs good firm early passes so he can get turned and over the half way line. A lot of the ball he got last night was slow and allowed Jack Clarke to start closing him down hence the pass straight back.

10 Apr 2024 14:30:41
Not conceding also means you don't lose games though Bermuda. Scoring didn't help us much at the weekend against Coventry.

10 Apr 2024 14:50:47
Keeping clean sheet is ideal ;

take 1 nil wins any day of the week

. and at home no excuse for not scoring ( at least ) 1 goal.

10 Apr 2024 16:52:03
Ben. good point re Gnonto and Gray. You're right on that.

To be honest, the only change to the starting line up I was expecting last night was Gnonto to start, so when he didn't and also came on last, he mustn't be fit to start.

10 Apr 2024 08:31:58
Last night's game was another very iffy performance. Lack of shots and creativity and too many back passing. Substitutions made too late. Saturday is now crucial for a convincing win to restore some much needed confidence. If we get it, winning the last three is not beyond us. A couple of selection changes as well to freshen things up. It's not over yet. Keep the faith.

Leeds win just one of remaining 4 matches in this form.

10 Apr 2024 07:56:21
For those harking back to the days of Revie and demanding instant success: Remember Don Revie took over as player manager in 1961,and it was 64 when we got promoted. 3 years.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Apr 2024 10:18:06
Yes Cuppa bit first season Revie had to completely revolutionise a failing lower 2nd division club from top to bottom

2nd season they were close ( ish
) to promotion

3rd season Champions

Whereas your idol Danny Boy has the 2nd best squad in league with a front 5 worth over £100 million and being out performed by League 1 Ipswich.

10 Apr 2024 11:07:16
Baz. Ipswich play in the Championship [top of], so they are not league one any more than we are Premier League!

10 Apr 2024 11:25:17
Yes Ani but last season they were playing 2 leagues below Leeds, Southampton and Leicester.

10 Apr 2024 14:33:59
It makes no difference where they were last season. they had the benefit of momentum this season wheras we were starting from scratch. worse than scratch we didn't even have a team for the first month of the season. In the game of football value can mean very little - a club playing well as a team with momentum, cohesion and confidence often beats a team of disjointed high value individuals as Chelsea are proving this year. If you don't realise this then you know even less about the game than I already think Baz.

10 Apr 2024 14:57:28
Misguided Cuppa .

Momentum won't last more than a few matches if you aren't good enough

As for your Leeds starting from scratch hyperbole twaddle

. all of Summerville, Gnonto, Rutter, DJ and Bamford. all available at start of season and throughout

£120 million plus worth of players

Even Sinistera was playing in first month and was instrumental in Leeds winning in August.

10 Apr 2024 18:03:04
Sometimes your knowledge of football Baz amazes me. That’s not in a good way either.

10 Apr 2024 18:45:36
Seeing as we rarely agree on anything OP your biased misguided hardly surprising.

Anthony, Spence. etc

Future loan players will avoid Leeds with Farke at helm.

10 Apr 2024 02:07:28
It is absolutely amazing that we can have the ball for so much of the game and only produce one shot on target .

DF prowls his technical area swelling up like an overcooked bratwurst getting angry and agitated. - maybe the answer is right behind you ( cue pantomime chant )

He finally decides to change it up with just 10 minutes left - yes 10 minutes for the subs to shine.

Was he watching the same 82 mins of dross that I was, how could it take that long to realize absolutely nothing was happening - the man is obviously not an idiot so what the heck is going on, ?

The magic 100 pts now out of reach for atleast one of the top three.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Apr 2024 02:50:06
. or its as if they don't wanna score.

if you don't shoot you can't score

A truly perplexing game . panto even.

10 Apr 2024 05:56:32
Cue the usual moaners and Farke bashers.
I think the point has been missed that the players were not really at fault although I will admit that some of the passing was poor, but who was beyond poor without any doubt in my mind was the referee.
Sunderland’s tactics of pulling down or fouling our attackers on pretty much every attack we made worked for them.
Two distinct penalties for hand ball not given and no red card for Ballard who’s so called footballing mission for this game was to hack or pull down any player who was advancing their goal.

I can’t believe the difference from the Premiership to the Championship in how lenient the refs are and for the people that don’t want VAR, there would appear that two pens would have been awarded to us.!

Farke and his selection bashing is not the real reason we didn’t win that game last night, a team that played outside the rules and an extremely poor referee
that didn’t do his job properly were.

10 Apr 2024 06:09:25
The usual excuse by OP .

I don't always agree with Connor McGilligan of One Leeds TV but his post match analysls of past 4 games of certain limitations/ issues of DF and Leeds United well worth a watch.

10 Apr 2024 06:42:32
True OP. The ref had a shocker.
Totally agree with Baz too; so many shooting opportunities went begging last night, just to squeeze another pass in, or “make sure”. It’s as if we have to score a beautiful goal every time, rather than just tw4tting the effer on target. Sometimes that’s all it takes!

10 Apr 2024 06:44:57
Op, we had 1 shot on target, also Danny himself said we didn't create anything, that was why we lost game .

Their his words not mine,

Farke has to take some blame last 4 games picking same 11 even though a good few are poor again, people are commenting on game that's current so what else is there to say?

It was woeful football.

10 Apr 2024 07:08:05
We should have had at least 1 pen but not the refs fault that we only had 1 shot on target at home.

10 Apr 2024 07:45:39
Chris there was only one shot because the likes of Jimmy, Rutter, James and Bam were fouled before we could get a shot on goal.
They did defend in masses as well which made it even harder. Every player that had the ball near the box had three defenders on him, too congested to get a shot away or even pass.

10 Apr 2024 08:23:22
All true OP
But you have to concede we were awful AGAIN,

What purpose is served by 3 suns on 82 mins?

He persists with a sub pattern that's ridiculous, (proven many times this season )

Sunderland have been muck since they beat us, yet suddenly we struggle again against them

How have all the other home teams managed since we played them last,?

We continued to play at a tempo last night that was 2 steps up from sleep mode

Op these are managerial issues also, I not calling for his head, just it has been really poor last 4 games

The part he said he revels in.

10 Apr 2024 08:24:04
All the about true but DF messed up on his team selection which he has done time and time again Bamford should not applied simple really when you look at it we complain. The ref team selection is wanting and to change it at 10 minutes to the end of the game is mad it’s bonkers.

10 Apr 2024 10:13:49
I think Sunderland although they haven’t been tearing up the league this season do have a team that is very capable. It was evident that they can’t match us so their tactics were very clear to see and it worked for them, along with an incapable ref who was unable to see two very clear deliberate hand balls in the box.
I honestly don’t think it would have made any difference if his selection had been different, it probably still wouldn’t have changed the outcome of that game.
You could in my opinion repeat that fixture another five times with the same ref and outcome being very similar.

If we want to take anything positive from last night, that would be that Leicester lost and we gained an extra point in this tightly fought promotion race.
Definitely not over yet!
It wouldn’t surprise me either if Ipswich draw or lose tonight, the nerves are jangling for all involved now.

10 Apr 2024 10:23:24
Leeds were woeful in attack. which is why a club must score from free kicks and corners.

I would prefer even Cresswell up front right now to Bamford . ar least Cressy would have scored in past 4 matches from set pieces.

10 Apr 2024 10:36:58
I should speed type never comes out right 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣.

10 Apr 2024 10:58:22
Keeping faith with paddy + Dan lately is bad

Also we seemed devoid of ideas again in mid

Why didn't he move Archie up and cover from Sammy or Conor a lot earlier, manager has to own up,

If as he says we didn't create, then he is the man who instills change

Look at McKenna few games ago, they were drawing a blank, both his subs score because they had time too

8 minutes is pathetic OP.

10 Apr 2024 11:51:33
I can’t disagree with you on the timing of his substitutions, it does appear to be inaffective with about 10 mins. I think if you’re looking to freshen things up 20/ 25 mins is the standard.
But I still think it would have made no difference with Sunderland’s tactics. Also the way they celebrated at the end to get a draw which changes nothing for them, shows it was a personal so called victory for them and their club, not to lose at any costs, which is a big reoccurring situation in this damned league against a lot of clubs.

I won’t deny either that nerves appear to be affecting our performances as it seems for Leicester as the season draws to its conclusion.

09 Apr 2024 23:28:43
So a week or so ago I got slated for Bamford bashing, seems to have gone a tad quiet now. My PB bashing was about missing sitters and needing a rest to get his mojo back he was good a year or so ago but he is not doing it now, with the exception of the wonder goal what has he done, no contribution and hardly touches the ball. Come on df don't bottle it make changes it's ok playing a settled team but not if they stop performing which sad to say our magnificent run seems a lifetime away. Tired legs and others chomping at the bit to me means changes are needed now not 85 mins in every game.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Apr 2024 02:09:20
Just 4 games left

The mojo may have already bolted with the horse

Some blame on players but particularly blame on woeful stubbornness of DF over past few matches when it matters most.

10 Apr 2024 06:48:00
Really don’t think you can single out one player for the last 3 games. Again, every single player is off the boil right now, so why only single out BamBam?
No one is disagreeing that BamFord has been off it in those matches, and everyone was calling for MJ to be starting certainly the last 2.
As Baz rightly said, if you’re not willing to pull the trigger, you ain’t going to score.
I’m going to say it, but Firpo was our best player last night! There! Said it!

10 Apr 2024 08:33:32
Bright I agree Firpo was and that’s sad.

10 Apr 2024 10:23:56
What Whitey said.

10 Apr 2024 10:37:06
I only mentioned pb as I was earlier slated I agree others are not performing but it is goals we need and he is the main striker and he needs resting gio has been disappointing also let's give others a run it may work it may not but sticking to the same players who are currently misfiring is madness.

09 Apr 2024 22:27:56
Twice now we haven't taken advantage, didn't when ipswich beaten too, not firing when it counts and should be beating sunderland at home. Bamford brings nothing and how many years he's haunted me, unsure why Bielsa and Farke rate him, he doesn't even hold ball well, slow and on $50k pw. Now need watford to do us a favor. Thought ref poor, couple pens and only 3 mins.
They had better efforts and hit target more than us.

09 Apr 2024 22:48:54
READ MY LIPS! DF WILL COST US PROMOTION!

09 Apr 2024 23:01:21
Not just MJ issue

The lack of any threat from our free kicks and corners is abysmal.

09 Apr 2024 23:06:25
Df will cost us promotion?

That’s a joke right he has been class we shouldn’t even be there.

Also the only thing costing us promotion is var

Two stone wall pens one the worst I’ve ever seen not given and the ref bottling it for a second yellow when he kicked out on bamford

We have been great! It’s a hard leauge, the quality at top of championship is better than bottom of prem

Farke is amazing

Just hard playing 12 men most weeks.

10 Apr 2024 02:12:50
' Farke is amazing '? .

Tell yer what genuinely is amazing if McKenna guides L1 Ipswich to Champo title over 3 premier league budget teams Leicester, Leeds and Southampton

# perspective # realism.

10 Apr 2024 06:54:23
The biggest questions for me re Ipswich, are quite simple.
Does every team in the league set out to play them in the same was as they do us and Leicester? Time wasting, fouling repetitively, 11 men behind the ball; No.
Does that then give them an advantage? Yes.
I would go as far as to say that Ipswich are not seen as being as much of a threat, and a better chance at 3 points, so teams play more openly against them, even now, while they are up top of the division.
Has McKenna been amazing; probably yes. Do I rate him in the same bracket as Farke? Most certainly not, and not by a country mile.

10 Apr 2024 10:25:10
Good teams and good players with the right attitude, desire, nous find a way to score.

09 Apr 2024 22:26:26
Definitely looked leggy tonite and devoid of ideas. It's starting to annoy me now.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Apr 2024 02:18:24
Lack of creativity from our midfield is significant . we rely on Rutter but he loses ball a lot.

Maybe that Amari guy would have got us over the line.

10 Apr 2024 06:59:05
100% agree. Gio has been targeted for weeks now, just as Cree and DJ have gone off the boil. The axis of Gruev and Kammy is too defensive for the circumstances right now as there is no other creative force from the centre to take the pressure off Gio. An extra threat, like Archie alongside him would reduce the focus on Gio, and create space for both. If Sipsvitch win tonight, then we have to go for it with an attacking CMF line up.

10 Apr 2024 10:28:09
The lack oc Lèeds creative midfield is a killer.

Leeds hierarchy were after CAM Amari!

No plan B alternative CAM player recruited!?

Costly mistake.
