Watching Archie Gray score on his debut for England U21 the absence of any celebration or excitement from him was a tad curious. šŸ¤”šŸ˜—

I believe Archie was born in England as was his dad Andy . his dad though did play only for Scotland as of course did his grandfather Frank and great uncle Eddie.

From a career point of view choosing England national team over Scotland is not really surprising

but one is a tad curious if Archie perceives himself ( far ) more Scottish than English ( in a family of proud Scots) .

24 Mar 2024 18:14:39
Think youā€™re reading too much into it Baz.
The game was already won and Archie had just came off the bench so didnā€™t expect cartwheels.
If he wanted to play for Scotland then surely thatā€™s what he would do?
Nice finish for the goal.

24 Mar 2024 19:09:21
On this occasion, what šŸ¾ said.

24 Mar 2024 19:17:18
I agree match already won Cork . but he did score on his debut so maybe a smile?

24 Mar 2024 19:45:19
Baz years back I pulled a famous news reader and after the deed was done I never smiled. On the taxi ride home however a wry smile appeared.
Sometimes it takes a while to sink in.
And no it wasnā€™t Jan Leeming!

24 Mar 2024 20:27:39

24 Mar 2024 20:34:56

24 Mar 2024 20:48:25
Jan Leeming is a corker šŸ˜ Corky šŸ˜„

Maybe after 5 baby chams it was the newsreader :

Imogen Nation šŸ˜‚.

24 Mar 2024 20:55:52
. Corky the thing also is that Archie is a very smiley happy jovial chap

He celebrates and smiles when Leeds win a throw in. šŸ˜‚

The bottom line Georgeg and Corky is that Archies entire family tree over the centuries have represented and played for Bonnie Scotland

And here Archie is playing for the ' Auld Enemy' England. sounds uber awkward

hence for him his first ever non celebrations? šŸ¤”šŸ¤ØšŸ˜Ž.

24 Mar 2024 21:07:20

24 Mar 2024 22:34:37
Archieā€™s a Sassenach, thankfully for him though if he does make it to the England squad, Southgate shouldā€™ve had the sack, like directly after his Euro flop.

Christ Corky, that wouldnā€™t have been Selina Scot?, she attracted all the pervs, Frank Bough, Prince Andrew and everyoneā€™s favorite Jimmy Sa Vile.
My personal favorite was Anna Ford, please donā€™t tell me it was her, she was a shaven Raven in my little dirty book.

24 Mar 2024 22:51:18
As with Joseph in the 21s in England and then jumping to Spain I think it is easier for a young lad to be in the country he life's in. If he had chosen Spain first of he would have to have travelled for every match and had people to travel with all the time . With archie would it be any more fuss if he was playing with Scotland? I can see why you would stay and play close to home if you could if the alternative was abroad. That's why I said before Southgate will be looking involve young talent as soon as possible to tie them to the English first team.

25 Mar 2024 19:38:24
Iā€™m not too sure George? Never really thought about it. looking back I was 21/ 22 and she was a little older. Cracking girl she was though and a story i'm ashamed to say Iā€™ve told many a time after a few sherbets.
Great to be young!

25 Mar 2024 20:15:32
When you were 21 . Ms Mary Nightingale was 30.1992 . was she a newsreader then?

25 Mar 2024 20:45:15
Didnā€™t have a clue who she was Baz. Maybe she was on TV at the time I donā€™t know. Saw her a few years later on the box.

Patrick Bamford is not telling journalists about this that and the other, no heā€™s on a podcast called My Mates A Footballer and itā€™s hosted by Joe Wilkinson the comedian. It is funny but I agree he should keep his mouth shut about certain things as it could cause unrest. I listen to it all the time as Joe Wilkinson is a favourite of mine and it is funny but I do cringe when PB brings up other players.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Mar 2024 10:44:11
Couldnā€™t remember Joeā€™s surname! Like him a lot, and BamBam is in truth, quite funny at times. Joe was great on 8 out of 10 cats.

24 Mar 2024 11:29:02
Heā€™s my very favourite Brighty, heā€™s in Cockfields which is great, he was the postman in After Life with Ricky Gervais, heā€™s in 8 of Ten Cats which again is great, he is a very funny guy. I also think PB can be funny but I donā€™t like it when he brings up other players, that should be kept in the changing rooms and I also think they have enough material to use without doing that. The problem is lazy journalists listen to it and pick bits off it that might cause a stir and thatā€™s where the news of a fall out with Stuart Dallas came from!

24 Mar 2024 13:33:46
Think loiner brought up what a tosser Bambi was for trying to be liked for talking about other players.
I reckon strikers get liked by scoring. Not by being smart, smug or snitching.

24 Mar 2024 15:52:26
Defo not a ā€œtosserā€ or a ā€œsnitchā€! He has a brain, is eloquent, and educated, so not in the typical footballer mould, and that makes some dislike him, including the likes of Dyche. He is liked and respected by his team mates, and those that coach and manage him, and delivers on the pitch more than well enough. He has been crucial in our form since his return. End of story.

24 Mar 2024 16:06:09
What Brighty said 120%.

24 Mar 2024 18:22:25
Thatā€™s a tad rough Aus, Bam Bam has scored a lot of goals for Leeds United and still is, he is an all round team player and although he went through a bad patch he picked himself up, didnā€™t sulk and worked hard to wear the shirt again, so for me he deserves his place. Heā€™s also done a lot for Georginio and Joseph by helping them and giving them confidence out on that pitch. I remember not so long ago that Georginio was having a nightmare game then a half time talk from PB and he came back out a different player and played fantastic. I understand why some Leeds fans have the same opinion as Aus, but heā€™s going nowhere this season so enjoy his goals and hopefully promotion, and remember Bam Bam can seem uninterested in his play, but then he will pop out and score an important goal, just like at The Wendies! We are a better team when he and DJ play. šŸ‘šŸ‘MOT ALAW.

24 Mar 2024 22:56:21
I liked the podcast were bam said about the one to one meetings the team had with bielsa before matches. Basically bielsa would sit them down and tell them how the game would go and how they would score and how we would score and how to play each part of the game. Bam said it was like he had a crystal ball. Each game would play out as if he'd seen it before.

25 Mar 2024 05:39:49
Indeed Ben. Magic Marcelo, and his crystal ball!

25 Mar 2024 06:26:18
Bielsa be like "we will lose 5-0 today because I won't change my tactics. "

I jest, but is kinda funny though that PB said he knew, yet we still got thumped regularly towards the end.

25 Mar 2024 14:25:02
I thought exactly the same Dill šŸ‘.

23 Mar 2024 22:20:34

OK Here's a Quiz . Watford / Leeds themed

1) Which Leeds United 1970s superb creative midfield maestro began his career with Watford?

2) Apart from Watford and Leeds United name THREE other clubs Steve Hodge played for?

And

3) Name the TWO Leeds United players who played under the great David Oleary teams
who played in the 2006 Play Off final between Leeds United and Watford?

24 Mar 2024 00:48:00
I like your quizzes Baz, so here are my answers mate:

Answer 1. The great and legend that is Tony Currie.

Answer 2. Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur.

Answer 3. Gary Kelly and Eric Bakke.

24 Mar 2024 01:31:42
Thank you Woody pal

Super correct answers Woody ; you even giving 4 correct clubs for Steve Hodge.

I thought question 3 might prove to be the most tricky (re Eirik Bakke ) .

24 Mar 2024 06:43:59
Cheers Baz and yes question 3 was a poser, I was thinking Killgannon then I remembered Eric. Such a great young team that should really of done more! Nice one though Baz as it gets the old grey matter working šŸ‘šŸ‘.

23 Mar 2024 21:44:52
Just watched the England v Brazil game (I know, I'm my own worst enemy! ) .
Bellingham, Foden and Anthony Gordon were excellent for 50 minutes or so but our problem is Southgate and his inability to stop picking favourites such as Maguire and Gallagher.
They are simply not international class.
Please Gareth, take a look at the under 21s and put Archie on that plane to Germany - the lads got what it takes and would learn so much from the experience of a major tournament.

23 Mar 2024 23:45:18

Georgey more chance of you going on a blind date with your fave the very gorgeous Hayley Atwell!

24 Mar 2024 00:21:28
Cleggy Gallagher has replaced Mason mount as Southgates pet. Runs around a lot but doesn't do anything.
Mind the Brazilians played the ref.
Who ever thought a Portuguese ref would be good and impartial to ref Brazil needs checking.
I know it was a friendly but.

24 Mar 2024 00:25:43
Like mainoo George they will want to tie him to England. Scotland will be sniffing around and great uncle will be having a say.

24 Mar 2024 07:52:43
I said it before; Gallagher is hugely overrated. Foden should play there. Forget Hendo et Al. Support the attacking JB with more attack. Rice can handle the defensive MF duties. definitely take Archie as back up.

24 Mar 2024 08:56:33
Anyone else thinking we missed kal?

24 Mar 2024 09:05:22
Gallagher is useful enough and I think a few are underrating what his profile brings. A willing runner/ tackler/ interceptor late in a game can be a game changer/ consolidator imo - say we're holding a lead with 10 mins to go for example - but I wouldn't have him as a starter.

Mainoo looked calm and collected.

Wanted to see Branthwite next to Stones at some point. Hopefully we see that against Belgium.

Think it's time to usher in some more youth and show a few older heads the door (Maguire/ Henderson)

As for Archie, probably too early for him. He's not even getting starts for the U21s, nor starting for a big EPL side, ala Mainoo. As much as it would be amazing to see him go.

I see the new England kit is causing a bit of a stink.
Because a very small cross on the collar is blue and purple.
Joey Barton is blaming woke lesbians for it!
Really? Is this that important?
We don't even celebrate St George's day.
Team gb have a blue union jack on their team strip and no one blinks an eye.
Nike change a two inch cross on the collar of the England shirt and it makes the front page and politicians are commenting on it.
My mind is very boggled!

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Mar 2024 08:50:52
Itā€™s a classic case of the media making news instead of reporting news of any relevance. Poking at the public with stick to get a reaction and of course it works.

23 Mar 2024 09:22:40
I donā€™t think it is worth kicking up a stink about however I wouldnā€™t buy the kit. Our countryā€™s flag is red and white

Iā€™d be the same is they changed the leeds badge or colours. I donā€™t mind away kits But as a traditionalist I donā€™t like it. Iā€™m not offended by it just not my personal choice.

23 Mar 2024 09:30:31
I just read a good comment on this.

"It is not the fact Nike have slightly changed the colour of the st George's Cross that is disgusting or offensive it is the fact they are charging football fans Ā£125 for the shirts. "

Some of the comments on social media are bonkers.

23 Mar 2024 09:49:41
Agee Ben, that certain sectors will always monopolise any story to champion their own cause. It doesnā€™t affect me as Iā€™m more upset with our own FA championing that well worn chestnut that pay Ā£125.00! For a shirt youā€™ll be helping grass roots footballā€¦. reallyā€¦.

I do believe in the obvious irony that the most upset sector of supporters will normally be the biggest purchasers of these kits aside from hard pressed parents, so it may back fire on the FA, Nike in poor sales.

However, my brother lives in Ireland and on one of their biggest radio phone-in shows >90% thought it was wrong to change the colour on the cross of St George and said there would be uproar if Ireland kit was changed in any shape or form.

Like on here, I respect peopleā€™s rights to having different opinions and whilst I genuinely do not understand the level of upset, I think itā€™s more important that we remain a country that has free speech a myriad of different views or opinions, so yes I donā€™t understand it, but I respect their right to be offended if they are.

23 Mar 2024 09:54:50
Personal choice i personal choice berm and nothing wrong that.
I suppose the shirt designer has to do something to justify the price and the change of shirt.
It must be a tough job to design a different England first kit top.
It is basically a white shirt with a bit of red and bit of blue on it.
How do you radically change something while keeping it the same.
If the Internet warriors had spent 125 quid on a new shirt exactly like the previous one they would be in melt down. I know it all money making and I won't buy one because I don't want to waste my money.

23 Mar 2024 10:08:32
Yes class I was just thinking about the Irish or lots of other countries that have a strong bond or identity with their flag.
But we don't celebrate St George's day and most of the upset is coming from people who only see a St George's flag when England are playing.

Sorry to get political but if we hadn't had brexit and 14 years of the government demonising anything foreign in my opinion no one would have noticed.
Umbro had a kit in 2010 with coloured crosses on it did it cause this fuss?

23 Mar 2024 10:21:14
I wouldnā€™t buy the shirt regardless, but I can see why the designer thought they could change the colours, whereas they couldnā€™t/ wouldnā€™t for almost any other flag/ country.

If youā€™re one of the many three vertical (eg Ireland, Italy, France, Belgium, Romania etc) or horizontal (Netherlands, Hungary, Russia, Luxembourg, Germany etc) and you changed any colours thereā€™s then a question of which country was it even in the first place, so you canā€™t change colours (but maybe could do an effect to distort the flag) .

With the Georgeā€™s cross it is pretty distinctive to the English flag (most other cross flags are off centre etc) , so you could argue the shape and not the colour is the distinctive part, so altering the colours is different.

23 Mar 2024 10:33:13
Well Brockley if the Nike designer had done this with the Russian flag he would be supping polonium tea by now!

23 Mar 2024 11:05:48
ThĆ© design on flags has been done many times to many different countries flags. Nike are Iā€™m sure very happy about the attention that itā€™s creating as it will without doubt super boost the sales of England shirts. I wouldnā€™t be surprised if the biggest and fastest selling England shirt in its history.
Thatā€™s media hype for you, good or bad.

23 Mar 2024 11:43:53
I agree the most offensive thing is the price by a mile or by about 125 quid!

I think most countries are not as open, modern, accepting, liberal what ever word you want to use as England/ uk and this is why they chose us. Letā€™s be honest this was a big decision they didnā€™t make likely

Imagine the Brazil flag being changed from its colours or any other country.

Iā€™m not offended by it but I donā€™t personally like it and would avoid. Bit like our red kit a few seasons back and our blue is the colour media line for recent blue kit.

I think England has been shamed for trying to stick to roots when other countries are allowedā€¦ either way for me to buy a kit for 125 quid it would have to be made out of 24 carat gold!

Funny you say St. Georgeā€™s day is not a think. In south London is it still celebrated and a lot of flags fly and events happen on this day.

I think sales will be fine as more will buy it as wile than will boy cot it as woke!

I think itā€™s mental how political it has got thoughā€¦ that said our red kit was a liberty and I would of happiest kicked the designer square in the nuts for doing it!

23 Mar 2024 12:54:42
Donā€™t change colour of flag or kit emblems. Itā€™s a business not airy fairy politics.
Jeez. Donā€™t give a stuff about anything or anybody else.
Keep Leeds as football business.

23 Mar 2024 12:57:29
The prevalent colours of the England kit has always been red white and blue as in the three lions badge.
The st George's Cross on the kit only started to appear from the 90s. It has appeared in lots of different shapes and sizes since.
It was funny the French government has changed the blue in there flag and no noticed.
It's just nationalist nonsense in my opinion.

23 Mar 2024 13:19:59
Berm why on earth was the England red kit a few seasons back ( 2022) a "liberty"

The 2022 shirt looked pretty standard imo

It looks similar to red England shirts of 1989 and 1990 .

My least fave England red shirt is 1998

My fave is England ICONIC and SUCCESSFUL winning World Cup RED shirt 1966.

England have done nowt in white shirt sadly.

23 Mar 2024 13:21:33
I agree with you Ben, but again if it is ā€œnationalismā€ those people should not be derided, criticised for having their own beliefs.

We have seen on this site time and time again, if one opinion is purported to be the only valid voice, it gets boring and monotonous very quickly.

It was only last year that our local Remembrance Day memorial had all the veterans poppy crosses and flags (Union Jack and St George) destroyed.

The colour change genuinely doesnā€™t bother me, but if I had served in the armed forces I might feel very differently cancel culture and devisive politics is a very slippery slope, and I do not understand why nationalists are all generally stereotyped as bigots as opposed to individuals who are extremely proud and protective of their country.

I believe thatā€™s why it resonates so strongly for others?

And we are so fortunate to live where we live, but true freedom means I can still respect another persons right to fervently disagree with my own views, Mrs Class is the perfect example.

23 Mar 2024 14:38:41
Baz do you dilberatly misread my posts to jump on me or just find things hard to understand?

Any red England kit is perfectly fine with me (wonā€™t buy it because itā€™s arsenal Liverpool and ****) but I donā€™t mind.

I said the red leeds kitā€¦ and it was red ā€¦ was a liberaty

So again baz you wrong there mateā€¦ apology incoming by any chance?

23 Mar 2024 14:46:11
I understand you completely class. The point I tried to put across is that a lot of the keyboard warriors that are so outraged at this only practice this nationalism when a tournament comes round. The fact that the colours used were influenced by the colours of the 66 training kit not any wild thing like rainbows or something random.

I fully respect the people who celebrate nationalism all the time but it feels around football nationalism is wrapped up in xenophobia and hooliganism.
In 66 the union flag was more prevalent and the cross only quite recently started being used on the kit.

As for me I could give a monkeys what colour they made the cross. I do not need an archaic symbol especially one that was adopted for religious reasons to show me where I from.
The money grabbing of the fa in the price of the shirt is of far more pertinent to me.

23 Mar 2024 14:54:29
Berm I think bazs post was in error as you said "our" whilst talking about England kit. I read it as you didn't like a red England kit. Not that the leeds red kit was wrong.

23 Mar 2024 15:08:32

I won't lie, I was going to be happy to see the back of him this past summer, but he's proved so many of us wrong. He was a tenacious pace merchant with little to no end product in his time with us. This season he's been a refreshing ball of energy, who's added positional sense, final balls, goal scoring and generally being more thoughtful in his play to his speed and tenacity. A marked improvement and having his best season ever.

Happy to say he's proved me wrong. Massively. Anyone saying he should go in the summer is off their napper.

If we go up he deserves the chance to play for us in his favoured position, something which he rarely got with us while we were an EPL team.

DF clearly getting the best out of him and he's matured as a player and learned to calm down a bit and utilise more than just his pace.

Great to see!

Is anyone going to play him in midfield?
I donā€™t know how he would fit into our midfield but surely Farke should tinker with formation pre season.

23 Mar 2024 08:00:22
Gnonto captained Italy u21s in their win. That can only boost his confidence and over all value.

23 Mar 2024 09:11:39
He has only just turned 18 aus. He has plenty of time to find his final position. Farke and leeds cannot rely on a player that young especially in the prem. He has bags of talent but he needs time to build physicality and stamina.
Farke will be so aware of burning him out if he demands too much of him.
I do remember Gerrard playing quite a few games at rb for the pool in his youth.

Tbf DJ is yet to make an impact in the PL with 3 different clubs for whatever reasons. Hope he will do so if we go up next season but he will need to go up a few levels certainly as will most of our squad.

23 Mar 2024 23:50:13
There'll be a correct formula how to manage DJ in the EPL. Deploying him off the bench against the better teams and starting him against the weaker and mid table teams a good place to start imo.

Just read that cream cracker legs sini has come home from Colombia because he's injured.

Oh dear oh dear.

Agree2 Disagree0

What a šŸ«  shame

Leeds getting Ā£20 million for Sini from South Coast pensioners maybe good business after all.

22 Mar 2024 19:21:51
Good riddance to him and all the other wasters.

22 Mar 2024 19:53:55
They've bought two perpetually crocked players off us now, Baz šŸ˜….

22 Mar 2024 20:12:33
Lol LUFCfeath . agreed . except I can't put Jackie Harrison in the same group as the wasters who joined under Brenty . Adams, Roca, Sini, Wober, Raz etc.

22 Mar 2024 20:28:04
Dill indeed lol

Please can Bournemouth make it a hattrick of crocks and buy Llorente if Roma don't want to.

22 Mar 2024 20:52:22
Harrison the biggest turncoat of them all.

22 Mar 2024 21:18:26
Corky, your opinion. No probs.

Imo 5 year service JH deserved EPL football. he kept Leeds up in 2021/22. JH did far more for Leeds than say KP in EPL. who was more than happy to leave Leeds after being injured all season and doing nowt for Leeds that season.

Just saying.

22 Mar 2024 21:30:17
Harrison did it with white gloves on, or so it seemed, the fact that he was a good player for us then turned his back when relegation came made his choice the most inexcusable. Hope he rots with Everton.

22 Mar 2024 22:18:00
Shame to hear sini was a great player and never nice when a great player is injured. I understand all this Judas and turncoat stuff, but in all honesty we canā€™t really say that.

Itā€™s a job not a love or passion like with fans, If our job got worse (relegated) or another job offered more money we would all take it.

Club players like Giggs are rare, even batty and speed, both of whom I love left us as thatā€™s how life works sadly. Fans outlive any player or manager, and the club is always bigger.

Side before self!

22 Mar 2024 23:51:59
Yes berm I would never wish I injury on any player but I only highlight what we all said about sini that he is a brilliant talent but injury prone.
I am sure he will have enough of a career at the top level to make the money to have a comfortable living.
It's more amusing that Bournemouth have given up money for not a lot of players this year.

23 Mar 2024 00:04:35
I agree berm, I certainly never wish any ex player any ill whatsoever, I genuinely feel sorry for them when they choose to leave us by them requesting a move, and whilst Iā€™m not too naive to understand itā€™s often about (perceived) greater riches and glory.

For myself, partly to move forwards as quickly as possible and focus back on players who DO want to wear the shirt, I try and stay neutral about all ex players, irrespective of how the move works or doesnā€™t work out over time.

I think supporters dissatisfaction with ex players is a legacy sentiment, that the corporate suits have never been able to take away from the often forgotten much maligned supporters.

Definitely side before self, let mr Hammond etc reap as much money as is humanly possible from all, any player who doesnā€™t want to play for Leeds United and letā€™s reinvest in new exciting players that do.

But anger or resentment just keeps them in our peripheral when theyā€™ve made their beds really, and we have so much more exciting players to focus on going forwards.

And yes, we know itā€™s cyclical and it will undoubtedly happen with another player in the future, but with a culture like the one Farkey is building, hopefully that becomes less and less.

23 Mar 2024 04:29:27
I know Ben can certainly didnā€™t take your post as nasty or malicious as you are not like that and I do agree

Itā€™s always comforting to know we got money for a frock rather than them sit in our physio room as we all know thatā€™s been very full over the years.

23 Mar 2024 07:14:25
Thatā€™s a very well written post Class, although football is not like any other job or even sport and it does contain a huge amount of emotion to supporters and pretty much everyone who who is involved.

Anger and resentment can be an emotion us fans can display like in the event of the loan clause exodus. I personally donā€™t hate these players and certainly wouldnā€™t wish their careers blighted by bad injuries.
For me itā€™s just a question, and it is still a question that it is possible that one or two of these players may come back to the club in the summer.
That is my issue that I donā€™t want to see any of these players who made their choice already, come back to our club.
My instinct tells me that this wonā€™t happen and I truly hope it wonā€™t as they they were all first team players who were not forced out and it was quite obvious they didnā€™t want to play for Leeds United anymore.

23 Mar 2024 07:43:22
Read that too. Also read a comment from a Bournemouth fan saying ā€œdonā€™t let the Leeds fans read this! ā€! šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£.
