Leeds V QPR

On paper this should be an easy game for the big spenders from London, however Brian has Leeds playing in a way that most teams will find hard to beat. When you look at their team sheet and how much money they have spent and how much their players are earning you can't help but be envious, but at the end of the day "We're Leeds aren't we" and can give anyone a game so it seems under Brian.

So I was traditionally late to the game after I was easily lead into having that one last pint and missed Joey Barton's goal that apparently on TV confirmed it should have stood! Oh well, couldn't have happened to a nicer person! To be fair to the lad he praised the Elland Road faithful at the end and one can't help but think would he rather be playing at Leeds and not some tin pot club down south! He is a great player what ever you think of him and I am sure he won't be there for long.

The game itself was how I described on twitter, like a game of chess and it was hard to say where a goal would come from. At half time whilst the kids were stuffing their faces with sweets, myself and Ben couldn't see past a mistake winning this game and from where I was sat in the second half I don't believe it was a free kick that lead to the game, but I will have to confirm it on a replay, free kick or not it was bad defending that lead to the goal!

The first half went by with not many talking points other than the obvious we have no width, pace or quality and not much attacking threat. I did however notice that once again Luke Varney really should go home tonight and revise the offside rule as he is caught more times than Ashley Cole with his pants down.
The second half brought early changers from Brian and my only criticism is that of Matt Smith. I know he is still learning the game, but I would have brought Diouf on at that stage and maybe have Smith on for the last 10 minutes. Poor Matt Smith is a big lad, but got bullied off the ball on nearly every occasion and he really needs to anticipate better when jumping for the ball, but I am sure he will get better. On a brighter not Dom Poleon was lively again and when Diouf came on he looked like he could change the game.

I must say well done to the 23,000 Leeds fans that turned up today when they could have easily watched it on the telly, but with only one home game in September we must try and fill the Stadium.

It was hard to give a man of the match today, I must say Peltier played well and Wootton looked solid as did Pearce. Warnock made a few mistakes, but the defence made it really hard for QPR. Green was his usual self battling away and Luke Murphy got around the pitch without having too much influence. I have mentioned Varney, Hunt is a grafter that desperately needs his first goal and I am sure it will come soon. McCormack would have hoped he could have celebrated his new contract with a better performance, but again it shows we need more quality and cannot rely on Ross all of the time. I can't give the MOTM to any of the subs so it has to go to Rudy Austin again.
