Players won't come 2 us because they don't want 2 work under Ken Bates. This will cause more problems as we struggle 2 bring in anybody before the kick off
Hope that somebody can come in and get the Chelsea out of Leeds or it might be a long and disappointing season

Leeds will be fighting with the likes of leicester, west ham, Birmingham and Cardiff for automatic promotion and I've got faith in Leeds for them to get it. No matter who we sign or not. MOT

Maybe brum, definitely not Leicester and Cardiff. Leicester are setting themselves up for an almighty fall - too many cooks n'all that. As for Cardiff, lost a few very very importnant players.

Anyways, were gonna finish about tenth, a few places above Leicester.

I would take 12th to 15th now we have no chance going uP based on the current squad.

Why dont we look at the likes of upson and hitzlsperger there are still alot of free players out there that could improve our team we dont need to spend millions for no reason we need to make 3 more first team signing in mu opinion 2 defenders and a centre midfielder, we already have enough players who can play upfront eg gradel, Nunez, paynter mccormac ect MOT

Its not money its wages mate, the top wage at leeds is 11k atm. I dont know what upson and the hammer are on but im guessing its about 4 times that. If we wont even pay 15k wages for a player then no prem player will be coming to us.

Upson and "the hammer" will cost too much in wages Come on use your head they will be looking for £20-£40k per week at a guess so no way in our budget.

Wow really ? There are people out there that don't understand that if players leave on a free they can command higher wages due to not having a transfer free.

The point the guy is trying to make ( and I agree) is why have Upson & the hammer been out on free transfers for so long? Everybody bangs on about "wages" but if your any of the above players you have to ask yourself a couple of questions. Why hasnt anybody signed me yet? Are my wages to high? Do I want to play football or just watch it on tv? When you have been a free agent for so long, you would take 11k a week easily. It's not rocket science, so stop using the wages card

Jesus Christ, two naive fools. Upson and Hitz will command wages well out of our price range. Transfer fees have fallen dramatically - it is wages that kill your club. Why are they stil out of work? They apparently receive a pay-off on August 1st if still unattached. Expect a few prem clubs to now pay wages nearer to what they are used to, though Upson at his age will be taking something lower i'm sure, but not anywhere near £10K.

Like someone has already said, its not the fact that players are free, (as in no transfer fee) its the wages that are the problem, players like upson and hitzlsperger would still command a high weekly wage. Wages for players are always the problem, that is why lots of clubs run at a financial loss, you think of the wage bills at chelsea and man city they are astronomical compared to their incomes. It is only billionaire business men that can afford to bank roll this sort of activity, because lets face it, as businesses, in the real world, half of these clubs would have ceased trading due to their losses a long time ago

Can I ask where you got the figure that Leeds highest wage is 11k from? Because I am pretty sure Leeds don't release those sort of figures

Mendy already agreed terms last week and will sign one year contract with possible extensions. Decent signing and big confidence boost with the newcastle result showing we can do it. Want to see more of lloyd sam this season. However having small worries if one or two players not brought in mainly a cover striker as leaving our back up to paynter though he has quality is risky. What u got planned SG? MOT

Think the signing of mendy (if it does or doesnt happen) we have gradel who can comfotably play up top. Player of sams ability to take over the wing... Think were ok. Would love to see afobe in on loan or oli johnson permanent

Mendy is a decent squad player who can't play in any of the positions where we are very weak. Paynter is quality ??? are you sure ?

Check out Paynter's career stats. He's only had one good season - in League One - in his whole career.

I don't get the whole paynter thing. He is useless. I have read lately about comparing him to the likes of ricketts and grella. Ok he might be better than them which I don't agree he is, but even so, they were rubbish. Let's compare him to someone half decent like beckford. Who again is not exceptional. Painter still can't lace his boots. We need someone who can make something out of nothing. We need an out and out goalscorer. I feel we have lacked this for a few years. I don't want to get started on our defence. Really hope they do better than last year. Praying that paddy can get some organisation in our defence. Our midfield I think is good. What do you think.

I don't think fans should be boo-ing Paynter or anything like that. Its not his fault. He's only got the talent he's got - no more no less. Blame the manager and technical director who looked at his record yet still thought he was a guy who could score 20+ in the Championship, or blame the Chairman who prevented them looking at anyone half decent. Boo-ing the player will only make him worse still but no amount of praise is going to make him a more talented footballer either. You can't polish a turd.

Paynter has the touch of a baby elephant and the pace of an Austin Allegro... and for all his effort Bechio isnt far off

just heard leeds are to sign mendy tomorrow, not what the original plan was... although leeds were sure they would get a different target after posative negotiations had taken place with an un-named player which seems to have broken down, so mendy will be made out to be "the one we always wanted to sign...." why are we running our club this way? do we genuinely have couse for concern? or did the newcastle result just give us a reminder that we dont need to change too much?

Newcastle was a reminder we don't need to change that much.
Mendy will be a great signing and I am sure he was a target.
However on that comment, Leeds have always done there business behind closed doors, I don't feel we are missing out on too much and most rumours are never correct with Leeds

Surprising about Lichaj if true but if the club doesn't show any ambition then I guess ambitious players wont want to sign. I doubt many players who felt they could play in the premier league in 12 months would be that interested in coming to ER unless they had little option.

As for Gradel, Snoddy and Becchio. Luciano was a gamble that everyone got excited about - could easily have turned out to be another Da Costa or sorsa but proved to be a gem. Snoddy was a talented player but one who hadn't necessarilly shown his head was in the right place to make it and was signed only as 'one for the future'. Gradel signed from a division above. Don't think there were that many complaints about them that I can recall.

I believe there are still signing out there to be had, maybe not his prime targets, but also some of simons comments earlier in transfer window were he didn't really want loans, and I think every loan deal so far has been with a view to a perm move, which I think may have been one of the stumbling blocks for the deals as its always hard to agree the fee

I hope SG is still around come Christmas irrespective of results. My guess is Ken Bates will use him as his fall guy as and when things slip but I'd guess that just like last year we'll take some momentum in the early months before the lack of quality in the squad will be exposed in the second half.

Howson is a future England midfielder for me. He was awesome last season playing part of it out of position. Leeds won't let him go on the cheap, but we need to tie up his contract.
