Lets hope paynters goal is enough to interest other clubs in having him Not that he should of seen the pitch today, id have grella in the team over paynter any day
Believable17
Unbelievable3
I really think we should give Paynter a break (and no, that's not because he scored yesterday). I was at the game and his reaction to the Kop fans after he scored indicated to me that his confidence was teetering on the brink of complete collapse. We all know what he's capable of, as he proved at Swindon, so let's all get behind the lad
Agree0
Disagree0
How about this- fresh season fresh chance
I know he was woeful last season but was injured pre-season which is a crucial time for any player esecially at a new club trying to impress.
If everyone got off the bandwagon and off his back and celebrated his goal without negative comments we may see a different Billy Paynter
what u think ed?
Agree0
Disagree0
Grellla was terrible against bradforrd park avenue - not worthy of championship football
Agree0
Disagree0
Paynter looked pretty good yesterday, alot better than his previous friendlys
Agree0
Disagree0
And how many goals has grella scored for us...? about 2 or 3 more in 2 and a half years at the club?
Agree0
Disagree0
Grella is quite possibly the worst striker to have ever played for us , and i mean worse than michael ricketts , grella should be offloaded asap
Agree0
Disagree0
When everyone is mentioning really bad strikers. How come Enochs name never comes up. Dont understand how he was so bad but everyone loved him.
Agree0
Disagree0
Paynter will come good, better technique & movement than Luciano in my opinion. Remember he was injured last season and was rushed back, he lost his confidence and the rest is history. Everybody who knows anything about footballers especially strikers is confidence is key, a couple of goals early on & he will be fine.
Agree0
Disagree0
Enoch was loved because we had a brilliant song about him

He is terrible, worse than paynter so whats the point in him coming in

Papa Smurf has shirts that already have Johnson on the back left over from last season lol saving more money get signings with same name as player who have left

Djimi Traore available on a free from Monaco
The former Liverpool defender 31 has expressed his interest in a return to English football - apparently KB has discussed a possible move to ER with his agent last Friday.. nothing concrete, his 20k wages maybe a stumbling block - West Ham have shown interest also
Believable1
Unbelievable5
Sam Allardyce flew out on friday to talk to the player, so thats another one off the list, as West Ham will match his wages.

I did here this also when on holiday last week, good player but wages too high for bates structure

Some more news coming from Elland road
just had phone conversation
apparently leeds are in talks with Gary Taylor-Fletcher
leeds have made an inquiry
Believable6
Unbelievable22
Don't know who you were having a phone conversation with at Leeds United tonight, as the only staff around are from the hospitality and catering side. Perhaps it was the kitchen porters sister, who knows the hairdresser from York, who once cut the hair of Jackie Charlton's grandson, who told his friend from Bradford of the information from Leeds.
Agree0
Disagree0
Would make sense, Larry knows him well and we need a striker till luciano gets fit again.
Agree0
Disagree0
He didn't say he had a telephone call from anyone at Elland Road you plank I really wish some people could actually read properly
Agree0
Disagree0
Bates said that one of the midfielders we are after can play up front... GTF can do that cant he?
Agree0
Disagree0
He stated "news coming from Elland Road" which considering the time he posted, would suggest that the news they had came from Elland Road. This is also backed up by the next paragraph that states they just had a phone conversation, which again due to the time of the post, could not have been from anyone connected to Leeds Utd, as they were all away and nobody contacted any media about any transfers. I really wish people would read properly.

howson was outstanding today. the lads did well not sure about parker. thought newcastle were poor but not taking that away from the boys
Believable13
Unbelievable3
I agree - Howson was outstanding today A good show all round and with Becchio to return, promotion is a realistic target
Agree0
Disagree0
I agree Howson was definately the MOM yesterday. Paddy, if he can stay fit will be one hell of a Bonus. There is no wonder that guy cuts his head open every other game, he puts it on the line. We still need full backs Parker and Connolly are not up to it. We will get ripped apart down the flanks, but other than that maybe SG is a canny manager after all and doesn't think we need to change things too much. Oh and Brown will be a useful addition.

Has anybody read the Sunday Mirror today ?
On one page Lorimer warning to Grayson to get us promoted in so many words
On another page Grayson saying LEEDS fans are expecting to much
I have to take Graysons side on this, BATES will not back Grayson up in the transfer market, 200k given for Lonergan, thats is to date this summer
I think Lorimers got a cheek, he is a director at our club, he should also be stating where the new players are and what Grayson has to spend, what does he expect if the manger is given no money
Something is brewing at Elland Road, money going to be available for a new manager ?
Hope not Larrys done a great job
Well done today lads
MOT
Believable17
Unbelievable6
How do you know he's not been given money? How do you know he don't just feel like spending what he's got? Unless you have unequivocal proof as to what's going on behind the scenes your as in the dark as the rest of us.
Agree0
Disagree0
You would wonder why he would do an interview with the mirror after what they printed about gradel wanting to join lille. Unless leeds were trying to entice a bid from lille that is. Here is what they printed a couple of weeks ago for anyone who cant remember "Max Gradel wants to snub Fulham and West Ham for Champions League football with French champs Lille.
The Hammers have bid £1million for the 23-year-old Leeds ace - while Martin Jol is keen on bringing him to Craven Cottage.
Lille have yet to make a move for Gradel, but the Ivory Coast winger is holding out in the hope of hearing from them"
Makes you wonder
Agree0
Disagree0
We have gone all pre-season unbeaten and playing really well, we finished 7th and after a blip our end of season form was good. Has all this escaped your notice? We don't need to waste money, our squad is good enough
Agree0
Disagree0
I was at game today, gradel was gutted to come off and was grateful to north stand for thier apprieciation(sp) did not look like a player after a move.
Agree0
Disagree0
All i was trying to say was if I was the manager and a paper had recently made up a story about a player wanting to leave I would not be giving them an interview. (Nothing to do with gradel the lad seems happy and gives 100%)
Agree0
Disagree0
This is a good valid point
Grayson and Lorimer have to different agendas
What do you think ED ? {Ed001's Note - just sounds like normaly board vs manager quotes. The board building up expectations as that normally increases ticket sales, the manager trying to keep expectations lower as it keeps his job safer and makes him look better if more is achieved.}
Agree0

Anyone think he is not being given money because club is going to be sold?

Longeran seems to be leaking more goals than rachubka did iknow was a tougher opponent and we did well But any thoughts on who you'd rather have as No1?
Believable3
Unbelievable15
Stupid comment. If it wasnt for Lonergan we would have lost He made some quality saves and did well
Agree0
Disagree0
Clearly whoever posted this wasn't at the game - looks a quality keeper to me - we won't be playing teams as good as Newcastle much this year and both goals were down to the defence.
Agree0
Disagree0
Take it you weren't at the game? Lonergan did well made few very good saves and one outstanding save Please try taking yourself out of your arm chair and to the matches before commenting on players.
Agree0
Disagree0
I agree, what a ridiculous comment, if i've deciphered it properly. Why comment if you can't say what you want to say?
Agree0
Disagree0
Lonergan looked quality. Just the 3 in front of him (Kisnorbo outstanding again) we've got to sort
Agree0
Disagree0
Don't talk out of your ar$e . Prob due to the calibre of teams we have been playing.. Spoon
Agree0
Disagree0
I think the replies to the original post are harsh. No reason to vilify someone for making a point, asking for an opinion. It is true that Rachubka has done ok in pre-season so that's a legitimate point. Also, it's a bit sad to consider yourself superior for having gone to the game. Not everyone has the available time and cash to go to every game, especially pre-season. Family commitments/ work etc. Give the guy a break.
Agree0
Disagree0
So Lonergan has played two friendlies? You expect him to not concede even though we played Newcastle, who are a league above us. He has only just joined the club.
Agree0
Disagree0
So you didnt see the two brilliant saves he made in the second half then ? Were you there ? He was left high and dry for the two Newcastle goals. We do not need another GK.
Beano
Agree0
Disagree0
It's not because he didn't go, it's that he's criticising a quality keeper when he has not even seen him
Agree0
Disagree0
Wow wow wow clearly you have reading problems? i didnt critisise longeran, He's a great keeper just stating that rachubka has done well so was wondering who you backed more? glad we have competition this year rather than having to play kasper whos head was bigger than his game
Agree0
Disagree0
Surely just another Bates hater who will do anything to attack our club, they must be spitting feathers that we have done so brilliantly pre-season
Agree0
Disagree0
Tbh i thought lonergan looked a buit shaky however he did pull off some quality saves
Agree0
Disagree0
Hate bates for what? Bringing in two decent keepers at this level? You need put your glasses on and actually read what i put was just asking for opinions?
Agree0
Disagree0
Harsh replies. The guy was asking for Leeds fans opinions. Don't jump the gun you weirdos
Agree0
Disagree0
The weirdos are the Bates haters that we need to hound out of the club
Agree0
Disagree0
We won didn't we - so who gives a pigeon's bollox It was a friendly match, and Newcastle are a league up One thing I would say hough, is please stick with a regular keeper SG. I don't want switching all the time, especially when the season kicks off on Saturday......
Agree0
Disagree0
Is there any wonder that some players dont want to come to our great club, when there are people writing stupid comments like this. The guy is settling in to a massive club, with a lot of expectation and pressure, playing against a premiership side a week before the league starts. He did very well, and i feel very confident in his ability,
Agree0
Disagree0
And so is rachubka, you are unbeleivably dull, when i think he's a great keeper and never once said he wasn't no wonder with 'fans' like you slating your own fans for simpley asking a opinion..Lufc f*ck you haters

Jlloyd Samuel could become the latest Bolton Wanderers old boy to join West Ham United after impressing in Saturday's friendly against Real Zaragoza. The full-back is due to hold talks with Hammers boss Sam Allardyce about a deal in the next few days. ---

My dad has been to the game today and has told me that the person who was sat next to him has stated that the reason why Alan smith didnt play today is because he is signing for Leeds tomorrow. Not sure if I believe this by all we can do is wait and see.
Ed your thoughts?

I heard this to from a good source but with all the hype you are never sure
Agree0

Think besides the wage that he wants and the fact that he is no longer good enough to play for us the fact that the kop were chanting "Alan smith is a w**nker, is a w**nker" will hopefully mean that he won't be signing for us
Agree0

God Do I speak a different language.
"Heats that also etc etc".
WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
Agree0

I think the name Alan Smith needs to banned from the leeds page :@

Meant to say "heard that also" sorry I was typing too quick on my iPhone lol
Agree0

I'll make this OFFICIAL:
Alan Smith is NOT joining Leeds United FC, not tomorrrow, not this week not ever again (as a player). People can try to pretend what they like, the fact is he is not good enough and has other interests he wants to try.
Agree0
Disagree0
I cant believe how obsessed people are about this no mark.
He bottled returning for a friendly, hes hardly gonna turn up of spec to sign now, its too big a gamble the guy knows he isnt liked.
Grow man its embarassing
Agree0
Disagree0
If he was interested in returning and wasnt bothered about the boo boys, why didnt he turn up and sit in the stands and support his teammates? It was simply an excuse not to return, he didnt have the balls.
If he was gonna sign, then he'd be looking to prove himself on the pitch to the doubters and get some match time under his belt, he has been out quite a while. It doesnt make sense, his fanclub can keep dreaming it aint going too happen. Geez
Agree0
Disagree0
I wish people would just get over Alan smith end of
Agree0
Disagree0
No more of this nonsense please He did not play today because, like most of last season, he was deemed not good enough to make their squad - why is anybody surprised by this?
Agree0
Disagree0
My auntie said that as a joke lol but its not happening, reason he didnt play was because he was scared of reaction.
Agree0

His fanclub now are stating it was down to policing......Pathetic, they would have thought about that months ago, and he was fine to play Friday....

In the paper, Leicester are trying to get big players such as Beckham and others. But now Paynter has scored one goal in pre season, he is now Leicester's main target even though Paynter is probably the worst Leeds player.

Believable21
Unbelievable2
I second the howson comment he ran the game from a Leeds point of view, clayton looked good also been the batty type player we need and brown did good too. 2 quality saves from lonergan 1 that was absolutely brilliant
Agree0

Couldnt agree more with both of these posts. Lonergan was really good, Howson was unreal. Unfortuntely my mates are newcastle fans and i ended up sitting in the away which i was gutted about and all they kepy chanting was 44, fat as f**k. I can see why they kept singing it though he didnt seem to have much pace. Then again max and snoddy did the running for him so i suppose you could look at it from that point of view :)

It said on LUTV live broadcast that Alan Smith did not travel with the Newcastle squad because he has a groin strain, read what you will into that, Maybe he just could not take the thought that he was going to get some stick from certain parts of the crowd, I don't think there is an injury there myself.
Believable14
Unbelievable6
But he prides himself on having thick skin and can take the flack....cant put his money where his mouth is I see.

I posted the original message here, I just knew there'd be some to criticise us whatever happens. Like the guys here have said, that was QUITE a strong Newcastle team, but we still beat them.....
Even if we get promoted next season, you'll still be complaining about getting Smith, not getting Smith, not getting enough points, not scoring enough goals, letting too many goals in, wrong manager, wrong owner, money wasted on the ground, wrong shade of green grass, ticket prices too high...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Leeds4alongtime (a real long time)
Agree0

Although dominant for much of the game we still conceded two. Also it was a pre season friendly. Still concerned we will struggle at the back. Conceded another from a corner. That was a problem last season.

Used to play at Nostell Miners Welfare with Oli Johnson, currently at Norwich but surplus to requirements. Speaking to him last night, Leeds have been in contact re a permanent move. Wages are fine, however fee still not agreed. Would be a good move for all involved, much needed raw pace to improve our front line. Interesting to see if we can pull this one off.
Believable9
Unbelievable14
You his agent or is this true ? = we'd have him here in Leeds as hes a lively player ? thoughts - is he not a duplicate of what we have ? we need a loan striker not a nippy mccormack or gradel style player ? can he lead a line ?
Agree0

Nah, not his agent. I used to play with him and know that's he moving on. Genuine about the enquiry as his dad (scout) has links to Leeds. On loan would be a good bet initially. Worth a punt I think.

Since when does supporting or not supporting an ex-player (bare in mind they arent playing for Leeds) have any sway on someone being a Supporter of Leeds??>>>>> Odd
If you want to support Smith go and support him at the Barcodes. Whats the problem? I cant actually believe that people are putting down the FANBASE in favour of someone who isnt at the club. What kinda fan sh*ts on its own fans? The fans are what makes Leeds, if you dont get that toddle off youngen.

The People newspaper are reporting that West Ham have signed Jlloyd Samuel after his trial at Leeds ended What are we doing? We need a full back and centre back desperately

Unbelievable6
Samuel was injured during his trial, is that really what we need - another injured full back?
Agree0
Disagree0
He was woefull for leeds why sign players just for the sake of it
Agree0
Disagree0
Yeah, the ''injured'' Jlloyd Samuel just played against Zaragoza on saturday. It was merely a story to tell, in order to hide the fact that West Ham came calling and he went there.
And to the people saying that the was c**p, how much did he play for us? 45min? And how come a LB with 100+ caps in the Premier League can be any worse than the ones we have? Don't be silly.
Agree0
Disagree0
He was injured for an entire year, loaned out at the end of last season and was useless in the eyes of Cardiff fans. he is 30 so probably way past his peek. would be nothing more than an average champ player, but commanding top wages. not worth it. if west ham want to pay more, good luck to him. just a case of big sam buying all his old Bolton team.

This must be Sadie Smith the new Leeds United cleaner. What she can do with a mop is worth all the money in the world.

The only thing Smithy will be signing before the game is autographs Let it go.... he's NOT coming back and actually, why should he? Why should he take a pay cut to play for us? All this nonsense about "if he's Leeds then he should play for nothing" - it's a JOB, not a vocation.
Agree0

Smith hasn't even travelled to the game, he pulled out with a "groin strain" also referred to as bottleditis. Your 100% a moron

Thats sums Smith fans up and they fell for it hook line and sinker lol

"if he's Leeds then he should play for nothing"
Obsessing again, most people are asking for a percentage drop NOT playing for free *rollseyes*

Its now Monday so your 100% Smith signing runour is pretty pants. Why dont u just plug your personal comments when u have absolutely no idea. 'Go back infront of the tv lad, and watch Sponge Pants'

Are you f**king stupid, he says he has no intentions and never has since leaving to resign for Leeds United, there are many other players which i would prefer, for example, Keith Andrews.

Any positive chants or songs we could try start today? How about
Please release Smith, Let him go.
so he can be Leeds for ever more.
TO play for scum was his biggest sin.
So release him and bring him home again
Cant wait to see him.
Just hope he dont get too much greif. its undeserved. We all know he is one of the best players we have ever had. I always prefered him upfront with Viduka and Hasselbaink, ill never forget the cruyff turn/goal and the Lazio game.
I remember some crazy stat at one point from either brim law or ian dennis saying that whenever smithy scores for Leeds, they never lose a game. I dont know the exact stat but im sure at one point that was the case.
Welcome Home Alan Smith. Kisbos gonna get ya lol

I'm a huge smithy fan on here the editors are sick of me I am wearing a current Leeds shirt but it has smith 17 on the back I'm not going to boo or jeer someone who was and always will be my footballing hero. Alans not stupid he knows he'll get absolute abuse but who knows of a few support him...

Smith was recently voted, by Toon fans, the worst player ever in the history of their club. TO say he is one of our best players ever simply beggars belief. He hasn't scored a league goal in around 3 years.
No way is he good enough for Leeds or any championship team. His career was over the second he did the dirty on Leeds.
Agree0
Disagree0
He captained newcastle in the championship and brought them promotion, hardly the worst player in there history now is he.
Agree0
Disagree0
If you rate smith as one of the best you either are stupid or know nothing about leeds. his stats are average at best and played in great team. for an out and out goal scorer he didnt score too many. mots leeds forwards in my time have better stats and most didnt play in as good a team or wernt out and out goal scorers. smith was average at best. so good a forward he played in the david batty role most of his career. what a goal threat. smith lovers read the proof and get real. the supidity of some people is amazing. im a leeds fan and about as good as smith is right now. people are saying leeds should sign me.

And whenever Smith players for Newcastle they loose......AND?
Making poems now..... cringe.....counselling required asap

They WANT to believe he's amazing, it fgoes hand in hand with idolising amateurs.

Smith not a patch on numerous players from the 60's and 70's-Billy B, Lorimer, Giles, to name a few. Modern day players the class of Strachan, McCallister, Radabae, Woodgate, Hasselbaink, Kewell, Viduka all better players.

Don't shoot the messenger as this is a rumours page I thought I'd post something I've heard.. Apparently Alan Smith is supposed to be signing in front of the crowd when we play Newcastle. Don't know if it's true and I doubt it will happen but it's what I got told. {Ed007's Note - A little advice mate, if you are trying to post something to wind people up it isn't advisable to use "from a reliable source", "my mate that works at (enter a stadium name) told me" or especially "don't shoot the messenger", anything with they sayings lacks credibility.}

Sigh. Apart from the sad fact that there's yet another rumour here about Alan Smith, how many signings have you seen done on Sundays in recent memory?

Not going to happen he will get a hostile reception. Someone (Michael Brown) will tackle smith hard and become an instant hero. And i for one will stand up and applaud this when it happens.

Agreed ed
Ive been told a million and one things but it doesnt make them believable or reliable.
pple want a fairytale ending to Smiths story, well wake up sunshine it isnt gonna happen

People are getting seriosuly desperate now with all the smith rumours, do you not feel slightly ashamed that youve all obsessed over one past it player for the entire summer.
Agree0
Disagree0
Funny that, my new home shirt arrived this afternoon. I tried it on and was thinking about how cool it would be to see Smith walking out the tunnel in the same shirt on Sunday instead of a Toon kit. Alas, its a pipe dream. he aint coming back to us.
Agree0

To applaud just cos Alan smith got tackled would make you a truly sad individual - he has done nothing wrong
Agree0
Disagree0
Would you be applauding because he was sold to the highest bidder to keep the club out of trouble for another three weeks before a buyer came in? The would have been no lufc if he hadnt have gone to the scum, hard choice for the lad
Agree0

SG is totally discreet in total running of Leeds- ie latest Twitter account bans, never singles out a player for criticism publicly and in transfer targets and negociations until the deal is rubber stamped.
The fans are totally divided over smith
1 do we want him back after controversy?
2 is he capable of being injury free?
You really think in front of a packed ER he
would do this American stunt?
You know nothing
Agree0
Disagree0
Id have smith back now and heres just a few reasons why
1) he'd fire everyone up in dressing room
2) he only left leeds utd to save the club
3) hes better than what we have if hes fit
4) always gives 110%
Im as bored as any1 with all the talk about it happening. But fact is only the teouble causers dont want him back or the peole that dont no the circumstances why he left. Lets not also forget his signing on feee from scum deal... He gave to leeds utd to give us more help. He IS leeds through and through and so are we MOT
Agree0
Disagree0
Smith only left Leeds to save the club - utter rowlocks.
Other clubs bid for him but he chose Man U because he wanted a bit of glory, he tossed all his childhood dreams aside and basically spat in the face of the Leeds fans who had applauded him off the pitch weeks earlier.
He is a disgrace, he is everything that is wrong about the modern game and to top it all he is now a really, really, really poor player.
Agree0
Disagree0
To the last poster nice one MOT
fans will always be divided on this but we're all wearing the White of Leeds so cmon guys agree to disagree
Agree0
Disagree0
Leeds always done there signing secretly and behind closed doors its not our style to do something so public and if you were a leeds fan you would know this i was a big smith fan when he was at leeds but he will never come back so get over it
Agree0
Disagree0
Bottled it, how would he return when he darent return for a friendly?
1) He may unbalance the dressing room (highest wages, prem ego)
2) He left leeds to further his OWN career, well known fact.
3) He wouldnt be better than what we have if hes injured, which is a high possibility. Hes a mediocre midfielder and a s**te striker.
He'd divide the fanbase
Agree0
Disagree0
Smith actually wanted to stay at leeds to help us get back in the premiership. Leeds wanted to sell him to Man U. He got a good deal because he won trophies and got in Englad Team. I would welcome him back with open arms but i wouldn't lose any sleep if he didnt return.
