Monty Gimpel released by Leeds United is this the same guy everyone was talking about last year as the 'next big thing'? please could someone tell me.

WatfordWhite

Believable77 Unbelievable5

It was probably another Monty Gimpel

Agree1 Disagree0

Was a bit longer ago than that but its possible he looked good for his age and never improved, that or he is asking for too much money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cannot belive they have let monty gimpel go he would have been class been with the academy a long time

Agree0 Disagree0

Surprised to be honest as he was raved about when we signed him but we don't see him in training, perhaps he's not living upto the hype or potential or maybe his attitude isn't right. Either way I trust brian mc that he knows what he's doing and there's a good reason he's going

Agree1 Disagree0

Yes, it's the same chap. You shouldn't believe everything you read.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just do not understrand this at all! Monty Gimpel was on the radar of teams like Chelsea Arsenal and Liverpool, he must be worth keeping. This is madness. I can see this coming back to bite us one day. Just like a certain Frenchman who joined the scum!

Agree1 Disagree0

Some of the reaction is a bit over the top. No one has seen him play, and he's never been anywhere near the first team. All youngsters who come to the club have been identified as having potential; some go on and develop the range of attributes required to succeed as a pro, others don't. All the talk about this lad (2 or 3 years ago to be fair) was based on a single, probably misguided, comment by Grayson about him having starred for the Public Schoolboys Young England Squad, and being watched (as lots of lads are) by a range of other clubs, including some Prem names. Good luck to all the lads released -you wouldn't want to it to be the end of the road for any of them. Chapel A

Original poster here thanks for the replies

Leeds normally put up the under 18's and reserves team sheet when they play.

Like many others I heard Monty was supposed to be a really good player, but I didn't often see him on the team sheet.

I think he must have fallen out of favour mid season or have been injured. Did get back into the squad though towards the end of the season.

He got injured and as many do lost his momentum. He also was average I went to a few under 18s games and one he looked lost and got subbed after 40 mins. Was a bright talent who lost his brightness so to say.

Plenty more decent youngsters in squad plus great to see lenighan on bench and poleon to score today.

"Some of the reaction is a bit over the top. No one has seen him play"

If no one has seen him play then he must be crap, you'd have thought he'd have played at least one game of football? Yes I am being sarcastic, I just can't believe many people wrote good reviews for him if they'd never seen him kick a ball?

Agree0 Disagree0

Monty gimpel is german need I say more he will go back to germany make the grade be selected for the national side score the winning goal in the world cup final against england

Agree1 Disagree0

I am friends with a Leeds United scholar, and he informed me that Monty didn't want to play football anymore. Apparently, he wants to go to Uni, so he has decided to quite football.

Agree1 Disagree0

The post about Monty not being interested in football is 100% true. he's a bright lad who doesn't, and never really did see his future as a footballer and will continue to study instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha probs another monty gimpel, legend

Byram

Agree0 Disagree0

Wells not good enough! JD

Agree1 Disagree0

Drury: was good today and McDermott seems to like playing him. Solid and reliable. He's not going

Brown: been left out the team, got a chance as Thompson got a knock. Not good enough today and was subbed to not get another yellow card. Maybe on his way out or a squad player at most

Somma: not given another contract, will depend on fitness over the summer

Green: rejuvenated since McDermott has arrived, tonnes of energy great work rate gets stuck in and an eye for a goal. 1st team starter for me.

Varney: much better since McDermotts played him up front. Not prolific enough to lead the line but will do as a squad player

Agree0 Disagree0

Nahki Wells is good enough but the player himself feels that he would be better staying with Bradford so he can develop his skills better playing in a first team rather than playing as a sub/bit part player in a bigger team. However that may not be his choice to make if Bradford recieve a big enough bid for him they will sell him.

The club can confirm that 10 players will not be offered extensions to their Leeds United contracts upon expiry of their existing deals.

The players who are not being offered extensions are:
Leigh Bromby
Paul Connolly
Davide Somma
Paddy Kisnorbo
Paul Rachubka
Habib Habibou
Monty Gimpel
Sanchez Payne
Patrick Antelmi
Jordan Snodin

Leigh Bromby, who suffered a horrific knee injury at Cardiff 12 months ago and hasn't played this season, will remain with the club next term, working as a coach.

The club will also continue to work closely with Davide Somma, another player who suffered a severe knee injury, on his rehab, and the South African international will have the opportunity to join in pre-season training with a view to assessing his fitness.

Paul Connolly, Paddy Kisnorbo, and Paul Rachubka have all been out on loan this season. Kisnorbo made 58 appearances for the club, and the Australian international was a key member of the team which won promotion from League One in 2009/10.

The club would like to thank all the players for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.

Believable33 Unbelievable5

I thought Gimpel was very highly rated when he signed

Agree0 Disagree1

Gimpel is a star of the future, so that is bs

Agree0 Disagree2

I can believe the majority but Gimpel and Sanchex Payne? I doubt it, hasn'tPayne just been given a pro contract?

Also are you there spokesman, thanking on thei behalf?

Agree0 Disagree1

I posted above challenging this rumour and veen adding the smarmy are you their spokesman comment, but I swiftly withdraw my comments, their is an article on the Yorkshire Evening Post word for word what Sam just said, hence why I though he was their spokesman lol

Agree0 Disagree0

It's now officially on the Leeds website, Bromby is staying on as a coach, and Somma is going to be further analysed in pre-season.

Agree1 Disagree1

Good to hear they will be working closely with Somma to see if he can get back to fitness.

Agree with all the rest, just a shame Brown has that automatic extention

Agree0 Disagree0

We have put a lot of faith and time into Somma, I just hope he has the time to shine

Agree0 Disagree0

Good call with Somma for me. Think he is a really good player when he isn't injured but he has been out too much. Letting his contract run then getting him to prove himself over pre season is better than the risk. Decent clear out, should free up wages for 3 decent players in. For me we need a creative mid and a CB tv saying Khizanishvili or a return for Kilgallon so looks like McD looking to improve at the back. Push Byram into right mid (looks better the further up he plays and started in the youth in mid) Peltier to right back. Think one of the players in needs to be a natural captain, Have missed that the last few seasons and they can help keep you focused, too many late goals conceded.

Heard that howson could be on his way back to Elland Road after falling out of favour with Chris hughton, don't know weather I'd have him back or not tbh MOT

Believable19 Unbelievable47

Definitely have him back. His injury cost Grayson his job and his sale possibly cost us two more seasons in The Championship and showed players like Snodgrass that the board at the time had insufficient ambition.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 May 2013 16:58:10
He was very overated and full of himself when he was here -how many matches did he just drift arround the pitch! There are many better midfielders out there on a free, let him stay there and rot

Agree1 Disagree1

When he turned up he was a good championship midfielder, problem is that he had a habit of switching off and it was like playing with 10 men. Getting out of a tough league like this needs consistency and for me he was always lacking.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 May 2013 22:48:41
Never full of himself. Model pro and well worth bringing back. has so much quality and would thrive under BM.

Agree0 Disagree1

Of course we'd have him back -terrific player when played in his correct position, in the hole, as the link between midfield and attack. Model pro. The only time he has a poor spell was in his last 6 months, when Grayson played him in the middle of the park, in a deeper position that didn't allow him to make those trademark surging runs, and exposed his one real weakness, his lack of tackling ability. If we accept he is never going to be David Batty -more of an Ozil- then he can be a real asset. Chapel A

Agree1 Disagree1

He is first choice for Houghton today

Derby interested in Aidy White

Hope he goes there myself.

Believable42 Unbelievable28

I'll pay for his taxi! he's crap

Agree0 Disagree0

Fact sheff utd watched him last week-talked to their scout colin grainger outside west stand. they see him as a midfielder. colin impressed I remembered he was a professional singer as well as playing for leeds!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 May 2013 22:59:17
I'm surprised anyone is interested in paying money for Aidy White.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm afraid Aidy will turn out to be the next Bradley Johnson -slagged off endlessly be Leeds fans, but an undoubted talent, he will be a Prem regular within a few years. Shame we are not all more supportive of our developing talent -especially as Aidy has been mucked around endlessly by the fool Warnock over the past year, being played continually out of position. Arsenal and Everton are among the clubs who have had a serious look at him over the past 18 months. Are they really as stupid as some people would seem to think? Chapel A

Agree1 Disagree0

Agreed with the above post. just read some peoples comments about howson aswell shocking

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Chapel A

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with Chapel A

Agree0 Disagree0

It's been hard for him this year I think, being played out of position all the time. Totally agree they we should hold onto him and give him more of a chance to show what he's got next season

Agree0 Disagree0

Chapel A, took the words right out of my mouth, Johnson is a key example who has been looked at for an england call up, we need to look at the bright side

Anyone thinking that Byrams "hip problem" is a coincidence that's takes him out of the spotlight for the last game (televised) before the transfer window!

Believable54 Unbelievable30

Funnily enough I was wondering the same thing myself. MOT! White4Life.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sam Byram is strong and confident I thing he'll go out for his last match of the season and he'll do up proud

we will be Marching all together

Agree0 Disagree0

Or possibly makes sure he doesn't pick up an injury before the transfer window opens

Agree0 Disagree0

From an optimists viewpoint, our season is over, he's been ever present and is still 19. the lad needs a rest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Funnily enough I was wondering if he had a hip problem after playing 50+ games in his first professional season.

Radical theory I know, but I guess it could be true.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 May 2013 14:01:37
Hopefully they aren't protecting him from injury prior to a transfer!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 May 2013 17:03:23
He missed the brighton game at home don't forget,, kj

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a chance that is the reason why. he was injured last week, plus its not like its deadline day where he could miss the deadline he's got all summer if he's going to go. But I did speak to him 2 weeks ago and he's going nowhere MOT

Leeds to sign adomah from Bristol and le fondre from reading. Hopefully a creative midfielder aswell. Would like mugugan but forrest will probably keep him. shame because he would of suited us.

Believable61 Unbelievable12

I'd love to believe that, but where has the Adomah rumour come from?

Agree0 Disagree0

I suppose the only link to Admoah was the slight link we had to him in January? Decent player to be fair
