Heard a strong rumour from a very reliable source that investment is being negotiated not from a consortium but from an individual. That individual was actually named to me. By the way apparently the investment is not direct cash. Work it out. JD

Why can't you tell us the name?

Hmm cryptic clue so is the link here the word direct meaning sports direct aka Mike Ashley?

Agree1 Disagree4

I played golf with Mike Ashley last Thursday and he has no intention of putting any money into Leeds, pity as I'm a Leeds fan.

He's more interested in his business now and wishes to continue growing it at both home and abroad. Sorry {Ed013's Note - I saw him driving a Sports Direct lorry and he gave me the wrist action sign when he saw my Leeds badge in my car so don't think he likes Leeds :-)

Is it the co op are they providing milk for the youngsters?

Agree4 Disagree0

If we're going with the 'direct' theme, surely First Direct would be more likely. There's two Brian Mcdermotts in the city, perhaps soon we might have two First Direct Arenas!?

Agree0 Disagree1

Sorry guys the word Direct was not meant to mislead nor was it in relation to Ashley. I can't reveal the source or they could be in trouble and the name might affect them and the deal. However one poster seems to have hit on the thread. JD

Got to agree with the last post, makes sense why only buy 10%?

Agree0 Disagree0

If I have followed the breadcrumbs correctly, the buyback of ER would free up a lot of rent money that could be used on player wages or even cancelling the contracts of the crapper ones

Colin Campbell, formerly Head of Yorkshire Bank, will represent the European Arab Bank on the board of Leeds Utd, replacing GFH's Hisham Alrayes who recently left, to make way for him. The deal involves a 'sensible but significant' cash injection for playing staff and the repurchase of Elland Road within 12 months.

Reported in Daily Mi**or that Birmingham may have to look to offload players as their financial troubles worsen. If that is the case should BMcD not try to take Burke on loan with a view to a perm deal in Jan? He was interested at the end of the summer transfer window and was put off by the £600K fee. Surely Birmingham will lower this fee if they need to offload? Time to act Brian

Believable39 Unbelievable10

"Time to act Brian"

really? do you not think he is working on making some signings? winds me right up comments like this

Agree3 Disagree1

Chris Burke is one of their better players I would think he would be the last person they would reduce the fee for. Having said that if GFH say many is available then I would hope even 600K is not out of reach! IMO certainly worth a punt.

To the person who was wound up by my comment. I do think that Brian is looking for players but he seems convinced that there is no-one out there who can improve his team. I think you will find we are not Barcelona and therefore there are a number of players who could make a difference. Burke was a player selected by Brian therefore what has changed within a month for him not to pursue it. If Steve McClaren to sign a player with 24 hours of him taking the Derby job why can't Brian? Do you think McClaren is better than Brian? because I don't. Comments like yours wind me up because you miss the point possible due to having your head in the sand

Agree3 Disagree1

Im on your side notts. let's hope he does

Agree1 Disagree0

I think you are quite right we are crying out for a wide man although why when we have been run by wide boys for years seems some what in appropriate don't you think

Agree1 Disagree0

Head in the sand? hardly.

Given the choice between BMC and McLaren, i'd choose Brian every time.

Your initial comment suggested that BMC isn't doing anything. Listening to him, he has a very specific criteria for the sort of player he wants at Leeds, and won't sign any old player just for the sake of it.

Personally I would sign David Bentley on a free, but Brian doesn't think he will fit - fair enough.

Brian was the one to say no to Burke at £600k, due to his age and the fact he is on a free in June, he is very conscientious with the owners money and seems to want good value in signings. Hard to argue with that really.

There's plenty of good players available, but are they the right fit for us? That's for BMC to decide and we have to trust him

Agree2 Disagree0

I think you'll find that clough lined up two signings before being sacked, it was nothing to do with sm.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that is important for Brian not to bring just anyone in as we have had that under Warnock. The concern I have is that Brian has aimed to address the long term development of the squad (which in principle is the way forward) without resolving short term issues as the team from last year finished in the bottom half of the table. He may have aimed to achieve this and funds were not made available. My concern about the loan dealings is that Brian identifies a couple of players, doesn't sign them, then starts again looking for players to sign. When he identifies targets I would expect to see plan A, B, C, D with negotiations being made for all with a view that some will not land and if the others do you have a choice. The point about Bentley is interesting as I think he would fit in but Brian refused stating that Ross and Diouf play the same role however against Bournemouth Ross was up front and Diouf never left the bench therefore his reason for not signing Bentley slightly weakens. look, we both seem to want Leeds to achieve the same things but disagree how it should be achieved, that is the beauty of sites like these where contrasting opinions are shared. I may not agree with your opinion to I respect your right to offer it rather than posting one line insults.

Agree1 Disagree0

Poster who stated "I think you'll find that clough lined up two signings before being sacked, it was nothing to do with sm". Well thank you for correcting me however the only point you proved is that a man about to loose his job still managed to bring in a loan signing
