Possession in football isn't always nine tenths of the law, it is what you do with the ball that counts. Glad to see Hernandez back because he adds to creativity of the team and takes the focus off Saiz. A fit Roofe "sniffing" around the six yard box will offer more than Roberts who is still learning the game and operates around the penalty spot/ edge of the box.

Hefele picked up by Forest from Huddersfield for £300k. Not the most cultured centre back but leaves nothing on the pitch. Given our lack of defensive cover this should have been a no brainer.

I think Radz, Victor and Angus started the Ayling to WBA rumour so we all concentrate on keeping him and forget aobut incomings . Jokin' aside, I'm happy to trust MB with the squad. I rather he turns our current crop into Championship beaters - I've spent so much of my time cheering on this lot, I'd prefer the familiar faces (albeit fustrating at times) to do well over new signings! . MOT.

Rumour that the penny has finally dropped and that the club are looking for another central defender. Danny Batth of Wolves has been mentioned. Probably could pick him up for a decent price and provides greater aerial presence than Cooper.

1.) 27 Jul 2018 11:59:03
Hope so Notts! Would be a good signing IMO.

2.) 27 Jul 2018 13:22:43
We ought to be looking at a better Cooper, namely Jake at Millwall.

3.) 28 Jul 2018 10:45:08
Leeds in for bamford according to SSPNEWS. Is this an assumption that Vydra will not be signing? Surely we won’t be signing both?

01 Jul 2018 11:07:52
Rumours that Leeds bringing in Vydra, another striker (either Hernandez or Jerry) , a goalkeeper (Blackman) , a centre back (Bartley or more likely Egan from Brentford) and a left back ( either Bryan or Garbutt)

1.) 01 Jul 2018 13:47:14
Three Bs for me please

06 Feb 2018 15:19:21
With the lack of defensive cover, what formation do you think Hecky to start with on Saturday ? Going to throw a curve ball and suggests he starts with 3-5-2. Pennington, De Bock and someone from U23s. Dallas left wing back, either Anita or Alioski right wing back. Hernandez with Forshaw and Phillips/Viera in middle and Lassoga and Roberts up front. Pennington seems more comfortable in a three and if an U23 is introduced at the back it might take the pressure off being in a three

1.) 06 Feb 2018 16:21:13
Low on centre backs so you want to start with three of them?

2.) 06 Feb 2018 18:45:52
Felix, Anita, Pennington, DeBock, Dallas, Viera, Forshaw, Phillips
Hernandez, Roofe, Alioski Subs: Roberts, Cibicki, Lasogga, Sacko, Peacock, ? Two of the forwards would need to make it 5 in midfield to win the ball back. Felix should just boot it long as his passing is crap. Easy on paper!

442 Notts. Time to get back to basics.

We had plenty of the ball tonight but did little with it in the final third. Thought Norwich sat deep and hit us on the counter which they were allowed to do because of the early go. Norwich pressed well but had a fair slice of luck with all three goals deflecting to one of their players (except first which deflected off the wall) . Krul for me should have been sent off as he stopped a goal scoring opportunity.

Felt that we needed the defensive midfield cover of Phillips to counter the counter attack of Norwich. Forshaw and Ayling were ponderous all the ball tonight and Hernandez clearly not fit. Possibly the first time I have felt that Bielsa has got the selection wrong.

Sheriff Top post.

01 Feb 2019 10:22:34
Reflecting on the January window, we have brought in an experienced goalkeeper (which we definitely needed) and an attacking midfielder for the future. On the negative side, we have lost 3 players (Saiz, Baker and Blackman) from the senior squad and replaced with one player (Casilla) . There was clear intent from the club to sign James and there was clear intent from the player to sign for the club, unfortunately as we had only one target (Radz words not mine) , we put all our eggs in one basket and gave Swansea the opportunity to put a spanner in the spokes. I am not advocating that we bring in a whole raft of players as it would disrupt the squad that has got us to top of the league however I still believe that the squad required a couple of experienced players (loans rather than permanent) to help spread the load. The decision to focus our transfer efforts on one player, towards the end of the window, represented a gamble. The belief that Brown and Bamford will return from injury and will play an effective part in the run in, again represents a gamble. The belief that we will not suffer additional injuries in the run in, again represents a gamble, particularly as we have been suffering regular injuries in training and Hernandez, a player who we are reliant upon, has been close on a couple of occasions of missing games through injury. Yes, we can call upon a talented group of U23s however I feel that these players should be brought into the squad to support, not filling the entire bench as we have done in the past few games, again a gamble which we got away with. Look, we have the best coach in the league and a good group of players and therefore we still have a good chance of automatic promotion. Also, who is to say had we got James that he may not have performed to the required standards or may have been injured in his first training session with us. The point being, is that we have been denied the opportunity to add another player to the senior squad (albeit someone who was 21 years old) because we chose to gamble. I hope that these gambles pay off, we are due some luck!

1.) 01 Feb 2019 11:49:40
Good assessment Notts. like you say James may have not worked out or picked up an injury so we haven’t necessarily lost anything. Just hope our injured guys make a return sharpies and help us win the league. Now the focus switches to beating Norwich.

I spy with my little eye, something beginning with an overrated manager and team that relies on Harry Wilson?

1.) 12 Jan 2019 11:28:35
Does it begin with F. F?

2.) 12 Jan 2019 12:12:18
It begins with S. P. Six points.

Bailey Peacock Farrell is an interesting discussion point at the moment with previous threads making comments about his perceived ability. I for one believe that there is a top quality keeper within him but those qualities will not come to prominence for a number of years and therefore we need an experienced keeper to see out the rest of this season. Positioning appears to be a fundamental flaw at the moment and I believe George correctly made the point that BPF has a bad habit of trying to "pinch yards" at set pieces which has been costing us goals of late. Goals conceded from free kicks i. e. Lawerence and Mulgrew he has lined up the wall and then moved about 5 yards off his line which has opened space at his near post (I accept that Lawrence's free kick went over his head) . The pinching of yards is to anticipate a cross ball into the box and therefore not being totally confident in his own reactions (which I think are ok) . BPF has plenty of positives i. e. distribution, shot stopping etc. but is getting found out on this achilles heel. Time is on his side, but for me, a goalkeeper learning his trade is not ideal for a team chasing promotion.

1.) 07 Jan 2019 15:08:54
Then maybe what we need to sign is the best goalkeeping coach we can find. Not a new goalkeeper?

2.) 07 Jan 2019 16:33:06
Possibly leodis, but goalkeepers tend to peak later than out field players. Playing for the first team is great experience for BPF and he will probably learn more about himself than he would on the training pitch. It can be a fine line between building experience and shattering confidence through being solely reliant on BPF. Being "one of our own" should not exempt him from being judged by the same standards that other squad players are. As I have said, bags of potential but needs to learn from his mistakes.

3.) 07 Jan 2019 17:05:41
Regarding BPF, I appreciate that being a child of the 50's some of my ideas may seem outdated now but why the hell don't we put guys on the posts at each corner? Look at QPR's winning goal and you can plainly see that even a smaller player like Shacks would have stopped that goal. Maybe we are not helping BPF as much as we could.

We had this drilled into us as kids at school. another good one was “If in doubt kick it out! ” but I don't think Bubba would like that :-)

4.) 07 Jan 2019 17:29:05
Good point sheds.

5.) 07 Jan 2019 18:09:25
I think we both agree Notts. He should keep playing but in the background a good goalkeeping coach would put his arm around the young lad. Remind him how good he is Tell him he is not quite perfect yet but this iswhat you need to do to eradicate your faults. Eradicate them on the training pitch and practice the solution in game time.

6.) 07 Jan 2019 18:10:25
Great point Sheds, I was screaming at the tv get someone on the post, would have been a simple clearance!

7.) 07 Jan 2019 18:23:59
Sheds, totally agree with you.

I posted on here before about "Big Jack" knowing when to hoof it out of the ground.

As for putting players on the posts it is a no-brainer. How many goals did Paul Reaney stop in his career being there? Luckily I saw most of them. I love Marcelo (not in any carnal way you understand) but I wish he would look at and adopt this strategy.

8.) 07 Jan 2019 19:25:58
Let's get Sully back as goalkeeping coach instead of this one that's never played the game.

9.) 08 Jan 2019 00:13:53
Staffy I agree.

10.) 08 Jan 2019 16:15:15
Thanks George, I always thought Sully was one of the best we've had.

04 Nov 2018 15:40:17
Kalvin Phillips man of the match. Only against Wigan though so probably shouldn't count :)

1.) 04 Nov 2018 15:55:51
Is that Bermondsey signed on as Notts! I hear Bermondsey has cancelled his sky membership . He was watching the game with Wigan fans and they all agreed Phillips was rubbish and Alioski scared the Wigan defense to death!

2.) 04 Nov 2018 15:58:22
Good display from Ngolo Pirlo 😁.

3.) 04 Nov 2018 16:31:14
Hernandez for me.

4.) 04 Nov 2018 16:56:58
And probably for me, he’s just sheet class, usually has a hand somewhere in the good stuff we do. Today scored one and made one! But Douglas as well, had a good game. We really miss those two.

I have read articles that state Bielsa is happy with his central defensive options and only wants a left back and a striker. I hope this is not the case as we will be severely expose if injuries/ suspensions occur. Also I believe I am right in that we have conceded in the last two friendlies from corners. Does not bode well.

Yes, we started to show interest immediately after Derby had an offer accepted for the player. Ah well, least we tried :)

Why would he give up this cushy gig ? The tail is wagging the dog with regards to his relationship with Radz. Orta is Teflon with regards to the poor performances from the players he has brought in and cannot be judged on the U23s for at least a couple of years. Why go to a club where he may be judged on actual results ? Utter madness

You are kidding yourself Axe with the actually minutes on the pitch these players have actually played. I think Bielsa is great, but when push comes to shove he will revert to Dallas as his go to player. I think we could have done better with another signing or giving Shackleton more playing time.

Cooper's error, not Phillips.

Which is all the more frustrating as we had the opportunity to bolster the numbers in January to cover potential injuries. I appreciate that this is old ground and there is nothing we can do about it now but even before Bielsa's training regime we had a squad of players that struggle to give a full season as they do pick up injuries i. e. Jannson, Cooper, Ayling, Roofe, Forshaw. We even brought in Brown who was injured when signed on loan. Yes, we have been unlucky with injuries coinciding but historically we have always had these injury prone players and probably should have factored this into our squad plans.
