If Rads allows Spurs to steal JC away ( latest bid supposedly an insulting £8m ) then that will be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me . Spurs and Daniel Levy are as tight as they come and will never go to £20 m or close to it . They will do everything they can to " turn the player׳s head " and offer him a huge pay rise . But we need to hold firm . He's a young lad with two year׳s left on his contract and needs to be told to get his head down and play for the shirt . I get the argument from some here that we should accept a decent offer and then go get the likes of Costa and Kent . But I think that underestimates how good this lad would be for us next season . If he helps us up he will stay and become a Leeds legend . As an England international he would be worth £75 m plus . The Costas and Kents of this world are merely short term gambles with no guarantees of anything .

Radz is smart enough (I think) to value Clarke accurately (20m) , particularly if he stands to benefit most from the deal. That being said, I don't think that we will ever see the 20M up front. A deal will likely be something as little as 6-8M up front, another 4-5m in guaranteed installments, and the rest as performance related bonuses. That's how deals like this are typically negotiated, and in part what possible led to the collapse of the Daniel James deal.

Levy is a notorious negotiator, and the contract situation is not quite as dire as losing full value. Therefore, no way should we be settling certainly for anything less than the Dan James to United deal.

RHC that’s the name of the game, sometimes you win sometimes you lose, it’s about money, heads will turn, all players want big money, would you turn it down.

Whiteman, I’d be influenced by the money yes . But equally, Leeds can just make him stay put . He’s young enough to accept it get his head straight and play . He wouldn’t sulk about it . That fact and his contract situation, means the club shouldn’t have to sell . If they have to sell to raise funds for short term loans, then Rads needs to fall on his sword and sell to some one with proper dosh . They are out there and willing to do a deal by all accounts .

Red Hot, I’m not as sure as you that Clarke will have such an impact this year. He has the ability to put in purple patches which he did in the under 23s and particularly in the games against Derby and Villa and his great touch to make the goal for Pablo at Sheffield. However at under 23 games and at then initially in the first team he looked absolutely knackered at the end of games.

After his Illness, he has not fully recovered his fitness. He is at a key point in his career and a 5 year contract will give him some stability and opportunity to continue his development with security and away from first team pressure if he is at Sours. If he stays with us, the pressure for him to perform this year will be enormous for him. I’m assuming that from your post, you would expect him to play regularly?

I think a good price for him, for us and a good contract for him might actually be a fair deal for both parties in the circumstances.

How do you know he won't sulk RHC? He is a young lad with a dream move possibly on the cards to play for a team who were Champs League finalists just a few weeks ago. If Leeds are the team who take that opportunity away (in his and his agents eyes) he may be disheartened and disillusioned and even the strongest of character would find it difficult to stay focused and committed in those circumstances let alone a child.

Spanish in the circumstances being Rads is potless perhaps I agree with you . But the price must be right . The papers this morning now saying £15m and a possible loan back, which would be a reasonable deal given DJ went to Man U for around that and has thus far done more in the game than JC .

Maybe it’s just me, but re Jack Clarke. Did he really have a sustained period of quality performances last season to give him a value of 20 million? Don’t get me wrong, I thought he was a breath of fresh air when he broke into the team. Exciting and potential match turner from the bench!
But having said that, the virus affected him badly, possibly something like glandular fever, which can take a long time to recover from! I’m no doctor by the way! I just don’t see that with the amount of first team action he had, how any team would pay out 20 million for him! I also think he would rather stay given the choice at this point in his career!

Agree Spanish. I don’t think he will make the grade tbh.
I think he will end up league 1 or 2. He has ability but lacks something. Not sure what.
I’d still want $20 mill for him but think we have already seen the best of him.

If I am right wasn't a complaint against JC that he could not complete 90mins. He is better served coming off the bench. What if that was not because of age and more because a latent illness? Next year is a very big year for the lad, wherever he is. If at Leeds he has to get his head down and fulfil his burgeoning reputation.

Clarke is undoubtedly a major talent but he would be better at Spurs. He is not a box to box player and needs a team able to accomodate his style of play. Once on the ball he has magic feet and can turn a game on its head but i do not think the championship is the place to nurture that talent. Saying that if Harrison is his replacement then we will be no better off.

Like most on this thread I do agree that JC is a talent but at 17 his stamina is lacking. The illness he suffered coincided with him starting games and therefore greater physical demands were being made of him. Probably putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 but is there a physical weakness with JC?

Totally agree with you RHC.
I think we will regret letting the talent of JC go. The next James Milner?
Keep our youth and use them!
