Great series on YouTube especial interest to older Leeds fans who may not be aware of it The Leeds United Wilderness years 1975-1988, some good old footage and stories.

They were lean years. I remember bring at a home game on a Friday night and a crowd of about 8k. I think it was against Cambridge and a 3 - 1 win.

I’m ashamed to say I lived in Rochdale then. In my 20s.
Guys from my local used to go every week and ask me to go. But I never did. Beer and sex got in the way.
Now in Aus I wish I’d gone more.
I’m not a glory hunter at all. Once I hit 40s I was back into it. 15-20 yrs ago. But from afar in Aus.

Absolute unfair bs NONSENSE of the series to include 1975 to 1979 as 'Wilderness Years 1975 to 1988?' )

In this entertaining if slightly less successful period 1975 to 1979 Leeds were

1975 European Cup Finalists (should have won but for a bent ref)

1977 FA Cup semi finalists ( very close game against Man U . )

1978 League Cup semi finalists ( beaten by Forest)

1979 again League Cup semi finalists ( should have won completely outplayed a very fortunate Southampton)

So with more equitable justice Leeds could and would have deservedly won ( at least ) 2 major trophies during this period 1975 to
1979 . not exactly wilderness years!

Correct Baz. That Semi against Southampton was a sickner. We were 2 up at home in the first leg and coasting, but ended up 2 each, then lost the second leg 1 - 0. The lean years were really in Division 2 after relegation, until Billy nearly got us to the Cup Final and we lost that Play Off replay to Charlton, another choker!

Indeed LUFCfeath the lean / wilderness years were most specifically 1982 - 1986

As for that sickening 1979 Southampton semi final we should have won the first leg by 4 clear goals and the second leg we were again all over them but could not put the ball in the net


I cried a lot that evening.

Don’t remind me of the Charlton playoffs.
The big centre half scored two in extra time I think.
Peter Sutcliffe killed us.
I watched it on the radio in west London and cried like a baby. Ok I was only 12 or so.

my first tears was when my hero John ludic punched the ball into his own net to help knock us out of the cup to a Scottish team. that was in 92 and I only stopped crying last week.

bad so harsh on Warnock. he is a top class manager at championship level and did an amazing job at leeds. we had no money, all his players were sold from under him so he built a team around snograss only to have him sold the following week. many lesser managers would of got leeds relegated

dont understand why leeds fans hate Warnock and don't recognise his ability which for me is beyond question.
