Last time we were promoted, Wilko made additions to three key positions/ areas of the squad ahead of the second season - left back (Dorigo) , central mid (Hodge) and winger/ forward (Wallace) . All three played a significant role in the title winning season, albeit Hodge’s impact was a relatively cameo basis, given he was in the twilight of his career.

Clu

Yes Hodge played fewer games than the other signings Dorigo and even Wallace ( who got injured for a lengthy period ) but Hodge was so much more than a ' cameo' his goals and performances were absolutely VITAL for Leeds winning the title!

He was THIRD highest goalscorer, scoring more goals than Speed, McAllister, Strachan, Sterland, etc!

His goals directly contributed to Leeds winning 11 crucial points.

and most importantly he scored the winner against Liverpool ( sorry ED001) fairly early in the season

that victory along with the absolute masterclass thrashing of Aston Vile 4 -1 away some games later sowed the many seeds of belief amongst Leeds players and fans alike that Leeds were champions in the making that season.

Baz - if you read my post carefully, you’ll see I said ALL THREE PLAYED A SIGNIFICANT ROLE. My point re Steve Hodge was in comparison with earlier in his career, rather than comparing with the other signings. Clearly his quality still shone through, meaning that with his comparatively lower pitch-time he was still able to make a significant impact.

Alf - I was going to go on to say that these are the three areas we seem to aiming to strengthen this time round, but then had to do other stuff and decided to post it anyway, to see if anyone picked up on that - and assumed I was seriously trying to suggest that this means we will go on to win the league next season - which I was not. It is a curious parallel to last time round, but that is all.

Clu I read your post and fullt aware the ' significant role' it was then your slightly contradictory ndownplaying of Hodge to a 'cameo role' which was odd : 23 appearances and 7 goals is far more than a cameo role.

Also nothing to do with his age as you incorrectly suggest Hodge was also just 30 a prime age not in his twilight yet, Strachan was 4 years older at 34 and played the full season!

I think Clu you will find it more apt to label Cantona with the cameo role 😉.

Clueless "Last time we were promoted" was not under Wilko, it was under Bielsa in 2020. Time before that was under Grayson from League One.
