Hi bw, I agree but I think it's not as bleak as it seems if you look at how well Leicester have done this season on a limited budget compared to the big four I for one would love to see them win it just to prove the smaller clubs can survive and succeed in this money orientated world of prem football.

agree I think most of the country are behind them, thing is lots of teams are doing well, in a normal season I think watford, bournmouth and even west ham would get a lot more credit as they have all done so well. shows if you can get a good manager and backroom staff, have a good team set up with a good game plan and 11 players playing for each other and for the shirt you just need to add a little quality (west ham and lesciter only have a little quality compared to say man city) but it can go a long way. same goes for our league as well, as dogwise mentioned ipswich and brimingham doing well with smaller budgets. I think it should be bleak and it makes so much sense that it would be but some smaller teams are showing the bigger clubs in every division how it can be done. so here is to being hopeful for yet another five years at least.

limited it may be compared to the big 4 but they spent a fair amount in the championship and the prem - they've not done it for nowt

personally, I hope they screw up - i'm not a massive fan of leicester and never have been.

What's everyone's thoughts on Tom Adeyemi? I think he's actually a really useful box to box midfield player who excels when Chris Wood plays alone up front and he can get up to support. Been unlucky not to score more goals because I remember him hitting the bar a few times. I'd personally like to sign him.

Agreed. I'd sign him. Would consistently make bench every game. Would prove very useful squad player at least.

Do we really need to be signing squad players?

Stickey, yes unless you think 11 players stay uninjured on form for 46 league games.

had a chat with some knowledgable Charlton fans last night (there must be a few) . We was talking about the money and the gap between the have and have nots getting bigger etc.

I also see a lot of people on here making comments about the gap getting bigger and the task getting harder (which I agree with) .

I also see posts about the league being quite weak this year (something I and the charlton fans agree with)

some my point is this. If the gap is getting bigger which all logic means it must be, how comes the league this year is quite weak and the small teams are doing better than ever, money has been getting bigger and gap getting wider for few years now so how are teams like bournmouth, lesiciter, saints, swans, watford and norwich doing quite well and why is the gap bewteen the big teams in champ and prem not showing at the moment. I agree it should be there but it doesn't seem to be. Does this mean the future is not as bleak for the smaller and poorer clubs as we might think?

You could have a point, interesting is Ipswich up the road from me expected to be in the mix did not spend massive amount but there wage bill must be bigger .
I do wander whether this will be a factor next season with the clubs that fail this year .
With the possibility of Newcastle, and Norwich coming down as well as Villa with the parachute payments next season already looks tougher .

BW, IMO the reason why the smaller clubs are doing well in the premier league IS because of money.
Premier league clubs get such enormous amounts of TV money that even the smaller clubs can pay big wages, therefore better players. In days gone by they would have to rely on gate receipts etc, which meant they could never compete with the big sides.
This is why I keep banging on about the fact we need to get on to that gravy train ASAP or we could be in the championship for a very, very long time.
This can only be achieved by spending big on top players.
I'm generally a Cellino fan, but if he ain't going to spend the money to get us out of this League then I think we're doomed.
Doomed I tell yer! 😱.

i agree with that danum and I can not see any thought is this logic, but what I don't understand is how are these clubs getting there in the first place. In theory prem clubs have been getting relegated for 20 odd years and the money has been crazy for at least 15 years so how have wigan, bourmouth, watford, swans etc been able to get there because they should not of had a chance to even get there. and how come the big clubs who have come down recently are not really fighting to go back up making the league this year weak, in theory the league should not be weak because of prem money? I really can not make it out. I think villa will do down again next year and not worried about them at all. Newcastle could go either way, I can see them winning it by a mile I can also see them fighting relegation. If norwich come down they should be there or there abouts as they are set up to go down and yo-yo. but it just seems odd that the yo-yo clubs have gone to an extent and the leagues in england are far more mixed and varied and open than they ever have been, which in theory makes it possible for all clubs to continue to go up and be compeptitive over the next few years meaning we are not doomed.

thinking about it really makes me go crossed eyed because on paper most clubs including us should be doomed but the way the league has been past five years goes against that. I think I need to lie down.

Bournmouth and Norwich are using same players from last season as well.

that is really good point shaddit, we have seen ourselves players from leeds have gone on to hold own in prem so it can be done. look at lesticer they have added bit of quality but might win prem with a lot of championship players. it is much about game plan and effective tactics and playing for the shirt as it is qaulity (although you need to add a little I mean marez is not too shabby a player)

the parachute money is there to stop clubs going broke from having to pay players on inflated wages but without the Prem tv and sponsorship deals to help them. theoretically, most of that money should go on wages and not new players plus team relegated have players (those who are left) who don't really want to be there and have to adapt to a more difficult, physical league so a good prem player isn't always a good championship player. the better players tend to leave for another prem club also. teams that build sensibly over time like the swans and soton have better team spirit and players who can step up - tends to be better to stick with the team and have a good spirit and understanding than to buy a load of cheap foreigners and hope they are prem class and bond as a team.

very true alf, the teams that take a bit of time to get to prem tend to do a bit better once there so with 12 years and counting we should be fine when we get there. Also this explains why teams like leeds, wigan, saints, Sheff wed, sheff utd etc go from prem to league 1. and I highly predict villa to follow. I can not see them doing well next year. that said bet they go up now.

Re; the manager. All I would like to say is we are not in the dressing room or on the training pitch. We are also not aware of all the goings on behind the scenes . Based on this Evans is doing a really good job and deserves a proper chance . Also his heart is really in it and with the right backing he would get us there . Looking at where we are now in the table and then analysing this seasons results and the silly points we have dropped if Evans had of been with us for pre - season and brought in his own players think we would of been top six now . Knowing the league those 2 or 3 different and better signings would of made a big difference. MOT.

good post, I do think he has been too negative and some of his late subs has been annoying and hate this italian style of football. I prefer SE type of football and hope to see more of it. I do like him and think his signings have been good and some of the results have been good (altough our bad run was sackable by todays standards) . I hope he is given a chance and hope MC leaves him to do what he does best. I personally think he is our best manager since Larry and quietly opptomistic for next season (as I always am sadly as I need some kind of mental health help)

10 Mar 2016 15:06:02
Agree with the above. No idea if he will be any good going into next season but he's definitely done enough imo to be given a chance. Out of all the coaches MC has picked, I'm happiest with the Steve (but looking forward to Larrys return obviously )

10 Mar 2016 17:16:25
No I think it's good to have the same coach in charge for more than half a season every time we change it's a different format etc etc .
I hope S E is given a chance and we continue to sign the type of player as recent times.

It's a no brainer, stick with the big fella. A full pre season, tweak it with a couple of signings, gain some momentum and watch us go!

it will be interesting to see a manager have this long as it will give him a chance to put his players and stamp on leeds which is something we have not had for a while (probably since larry maybe mcdermot) so the big guy will have no excuses. If anyone is going to get a prolonged chance at leeds I think SE deserves it but none of this super defensive side ways passing all of the ball none of the chances stuff please big man. also I think wooten although improved should be left out to pasture now so even though he must be the managers love child it is time to get someone else in or maybe give coyle a long run in team.

A second bidder from the grassy knoll according to some MP. He say's MC paid too much for us. if he's complaining about 30 mil, he's not for us. He should go and buy Barnet.

10 Mar 2016 13:45:19
no, you're right George. unless Bates was still involved as a lot of people have always thought. he probably still is and that will be the 25 percent still owned by 'GFH'

Are you concerned he'd fail the Fit and Proper Person test? Don't forget this is the FL we're talking about.

if you believe some theories it was the American goverment working with the mafia. Some think MC is the mafia so maybe he would work well with dodgy americans? either way at least these people get their targets (bit harsh but I don't think this one was too soon)
