Delighted Pearson is back. Smart man. Only downside is it looks like MC will be staying now?!
I am not totally anti Cellino, just his way of running a club is so different to what we are used to. I don't believe in general manager and coach carp. let's have a manager doing what a manager does. choose his own players, pick his own team and coach them players that he has chosen/inherited.
Why we need someone like Salerno picking players from all over is beyond me.

You mean let's have a manager with total say over the players he brings in & backroom staff? erm a bit like what Redknap has done ay QPR? have you seen the sqaud list there over the hill journeymen on a fortune! no chance of selling them on & Redknap's left! next manager won't want that lot! how big a problem is that going to be >?

Cellino wouldn't appoint Pearson if he was about to sell the club to Redbull or
Asian interests.

It is necessary to be successful in the transfer market if you can cast a wide net. Having someone responsible for player recruitment is not a bad thing as long their is dialogue with the head coach to identify the type of players he wants. Redknap is the classic example of how a manager solely in charge of recruitment can get it wrong.

I agree with mc point in that he owns the club and why should he let a manager buy 11 players and fail and get the sack and then leave us with carp. However mc can't manage a football team and buy good players to save his life. So. Bit of a predicament!
Solution. Appoint a manager on full control but write into players contract if any new manager comes along that dosent want them. Off they go.

Our 'Arry soon jumped ship before relegation. He knew they were going down. He's one of the worst managers in PL history in my opinion when you consider how much he's allowed to spend. How he keeps getting an open cheque book is beyond me. He crippled Pompey, now it looks like the same with QPR. Who's next? Please no, not us!

Absolutely agree MM, Redknapp likes to spend other people's money without any regard for the consequences. When the money dries up or the benefactor gets wise to him he moves on. Redknapp would not cause as much destruction if he did not have suckers like Fernandes, a man who clearly has more money than sense (when it comes to football)

Who mentioned Rednapp? I was kind of thinking in the way of Revie Wilkinson OLeary and Grayson. Pick your own backroom staff and recommend players to ceo who you would like. Works for Mourino and Wenger.

i think there is arguments for and against and I amsure the eds could find lots of examples or both working very well and going really wrong. what's important iswe get it right. also to ealrier comment about mc not being able to buy/pick good players to save his life. he did ok in italy and if he picked our signings he did well with silvestri, ant, bianchi and to some extent adryan so could be worse

Glad we have got cook sorted did right thing two years nt bad might give us a kick to get yhings sorted so he will sign exstension end of next year

So Lewis Cook has signed until the summer of 2017, ie 2 seasons. Does this mean he's going to give it one more season to get into the premier league with us.
The reason I'm saying this is if we don't go up next season I can't see him signing another extension at that time and we would have to sell him as we couldn't allow him to see out his contract which would mean us getting nothing for him. Oh well, looking on the bright side at least we've got him for at least one more year.
Let's hope we can get get all the youngsters to stay as this should also let potential new signings know that it's a club worth coming to.

Although not the best news in terms of him staying at the club for longer, but it does allow us and him to see what the plan is for this season. If there is a serious push for the premiership and we do well, I can see him giving it another year. If not, then his options are better.

Lets not forget, a contract works 2 ways, We do not loose him for free at the end of next season and it gives him the piece of mind that if things are not in the correct way then he can still move on with little fuss.

The time on long term contracts to increase value are long gone, as if a player wants to leave, he will and if a club wants to sell they will.

And to be honest I would do the same.

That's exactly how I see it Danum. If we don't go up next year he'll be on his way.

Ausman you are impatient but agree thought we would have some sound bites by now. Maybe Cellino is actually listening to others. Would like to see retained list to see if we are going to move forward or same old same old with a few more loanees. Would like to see about eight either released or put on transfer list and spend some money on signings of proven quality. 3 mill would get Scott Sinclair another 3 would get Tom Ince. Would like him to make a statement of intent like this
