Playing behind closed doors for the remaining season would be the solution but. what if a number of players or half the playing squad become infected in the league’s. !?
It could be that this season will be abandoned, I’m trying to be optimistic about how this will pan out but the reality of it all does not look good. It’s a veritable clusterf##k for our club with the Premiership so close.

OP I share your concerns, as do Liverpool fans.

Play next 2 games then call a halt too football season and as league stands. That’s how it will finish. 👍👍⚽️⚽️⚽️😂😂😂.

They would either have to suspend the season to a later date which will create all kinds of problems with contracts and player transfers depending on how long it lasts. - or -
Cancel the season completly and the leagues stay as they are same teams remain in the league for next year which would be the worst senario for us. (Prem will prob be decided by then and they will award Liverpoop the league. they just need to win their next two games I think) - or -
Cancel the rest of the season and where you are is how you finish. This won't happen as teams like A, Villa would take legal action because relagation is not a foregone conclusion and teams just outside the 6 won't take that either.

I think the Leeds curse has had to go to extraordinary lengths to sh1t on us this year in the form of a pandemic. as a Leeds supporter for 55 years and seeing the good and the bad Covid-19 will hurt us. The last time the curse had to stoop so low to de-rail us was spygate. Before that it used Bowyer/ woodgate incident to F*** us up.
All in the life of a Leeds United Supporter. MoT.

Could follow German idea, top league stays same no relegation, top four from the 2nd league, top 3 in our case, get promoted. Would mean PL expands to 23 teams but could have more relegated next two seasons. Fairest way imo.

Bud - that would be a very pragmatic and sensible way forward - it's also German, meaning there are three reasons why it's unlikely to be adopted over here.

A suggestion found on Twitter.

Can't we just use the Duckworth-Lewis method from cricket? Promote Leeds and WBA, give Liverpool the title and then just do playoffs for promotion and relegation. Then close the season, get this under control so the world doesn't become another Italy - simple.

Brightwhite the the same as I posted week or so, end the season now and promotion is as they all stand and relegation for those in those places, no point to play offs.

Or bring back the pools panel for remaining fixtures.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2020 18:01:28
That's a great idea Whitesee, can I be on the panel? 😂😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2020 18:32:12
there is no way that our rival clubs will go for that. complaints and appeals would follow stating it is unfair. Depending on how the fixtures have worked out it could be argued that certain teams have had easier or harder fixtures up to this point with vital points still to be snapped up in the remaining fixtures.

12 Mar 2020 18:46:56
Those suggestions above all make sense, a good solution play the remaining games behind closed doors
or if there really is no choice to end the season with positions as they stand. over 80% of the season is already complete. voiding the season with it so near to completion makes zero sense and would be unjust.

Penalty shootouts to decide remaining games. The higher up the table, the more pens you get.

12 Mar 2020 21:42:08
Alf - under your reasoning, our rivals should accept that we should be promoted. Generally perceived that, of the clubs in the promotion shake-up, we have the easiest run-in - therefore overall we must have already played the hardest set of fixtures.

Duckworth Lewis. Excellent idea. And a form of it actually makes sense?

Forest have players and staff who have tested positive for coronavirus.

I don't think so Alf. Where did you hear that from? I've read that players and staff have all been tested and are all clear.

OMG - when times get dark, people often resort to humour, so while some apparently crass comments may have been made please don't leap to judgement on those who have posted them.

I think we all realise how serious the implications of Covid-19 can be for individuals affected. Some of us may be in the older with pre-existing heart/ lung etc conditions category for whom it could potentially be fatal, and most will have friends and relatives in a similar position.

I think most will also realise that smaller clubs could face cash-flow problems with this - though the FA may possibly step in to help out, as this would be a very different scenario to problems created by poor management/ governance within the clubs affected.

NBA has been suspended after a Utah Jazz player tested positive. It will be interesting to see what happens next and what they do about the rest of the season.

I concur with Clueless, this British gallows type humour is synonymous with any crisis the Country is facing. And whilst I agree to many it is in bad taste it actually plays an important part in terms of morale, positivity and fight.

I actually thought the governments rationale for NOT stopping major sporting events made some sense.

50,000 people you still (realistically) are at greatest risk from the nearest 50 or so people sitting (as stadiums are now) where as if it’s played behind closed doors there’s every chance people will be squashed together like sardines in pubs up and down the land with ‘potentially’ an increased risk of spreading or contracting the virus.

I have many family members that I am naturally very concerned for. However, I do believe the press and news services have been very irresponsible in their reporting and are actually driving this ridiculous panic buying and increased level of fear. Either way I am certain the championship will be concluded albeit with an extended timeline.

Playing behind closed doors is inevitable now as governments will quite rightly say that the health of the population far outweighs the impact on finances. However, I've no doubt Sunday's game at Cardiff will go ahead, which would leave Leeds with five home games and only three away left to complete.

That would be the best scenario for the EFL and FA in the hope that we don't gain promotion. An empty stadium will be a great leveller and our home advantage could be crucial at this stage in the season.

Conversely it could take pressure off the players as there is a great weight of expectation at ER which not everyone can cope with.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Mar 2020 14:35:15
Could do Alf, but I think the team are handling the pressure of expectation at home games very well at the moment and it's more of a bonus playing at home than a hindrance. We're always worth a goal or an assist!

Don’t think games should be played behind closed doors, because as others mention, it will lead to clubs going out of business. The season should either be suspended, to be concluded at a later date, or cancelled, with an “as you are” result. Positions should stand due to the proximity of season end. Very unlikely, and wishful thinking on my part I suppose.
Whatever they do, I foresee a legal poo pile up ahead if fixtures or season is affected!

OMG funny, your more concerned about football clubs going out of business, think about the one who haven’t made it mate you post is no better.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Mar 2020 18:36:01
surely if games are cancelled the clubs will also face the same issues as if they are played behind closed doors. they still need to pay overheads, wages and other costs regardless of whether the games go ahead. the only real way is for the football league to compensate them based on their average attendances.
