What did you think of the game Ed?

{Ed0666's Note - honestly mate I was so annoyed at our performance I failed to see how exciting a game it was till after the fact. But I seriously think with two or three additions you guys will scare the bejeezuz out of the top 6. You have a coach who has high expectations and doesn’t suffer fools. The players respect him and play for him, the system is cohesive and well oiled and you have a supportive hierarchy.

Game wise I thought Leeds were magnificent. You’re heads didn’t drop till you didn’t let us get into our stride. The fact we had some passengers is no excuse. There’s no doubt about it you flustered us.

I honestly think you’ll take 4 points of Man United this season. I hope so.

Nicely put Vid. Over here in sunny Ireland Leeds are everyone’s second team. After today’s game even more so.
When I look at the team sheet and break down every individual im still amazed at the level the team plays at.
Top 8 for me this season.

What a shame. Played really well but let down by a bit of sloppiness for the penalty at the end. First penalty - not really. We do lack depth though. Didn't think I would be saying it but at 3-3 we would have been better with Bamford on the pitch. He gave us an out ball to relieve the pressure. Great game to watch but I think Bielsa would be thinking what he has to do to tighten things up ma bit.

sadly I don't think belisa will tighten it up in any way. we have always been poor at high balls and set plays and will we bring in a another Cb, probably not

and I know i'm going to get slaughted but its true the only other way we can tighten up is dropping Phillips. world class passing and amazing assist but he just can not defend. as carra said in commentary. its odd to bring koch out to firmino rather than Phillips drop back. firmono then run past Phillips three times like he wasn't there and we know why belisa did that.

how do we improve. we can really attack and play amazing football but I just pray poor set plays and having a class passer who can not run or defend playing DM doesn't cost us our place in prem because we deserve better.

We scored 3 good goals, gave it a go and can hold our heads high as we deserve to be in this league. Nice to see Bielsa isn't happy with that result, as it bodes well moving forward. hopefully we will strengthen in the next few weeks. was a hard game to throw Koch in to, before he gets slated, let's remember Rio's debut for us. Think it was a defeat at Leicester if my memory is correct and he went on to be a great signing.

Pablo looked off pace. maybe move Phillips to Pablos place and stuikji (who played well) in to dm?

I know i'm a broken record but did anyone watch that and think he was anything other than a liability in defence? although I admit passing was world world class. but one assist to four goals ain't good reading to me.

we looked amazing going forward real class and I do think we will stay up but I wouldn't put money on many clean sheets this season.

Good posts Canada and Martyn. Have to say Bermo, very disappointed in you. I live in a world where if you’re big enough to come on here and make boasts about your opinions and promises about what you will do, you carry them out! Not sure if we can give much credibility to the words that come out of your pen if you lack the balls to back en up. We won the championship with KP playing DM, he got selected for England and played. You and your spurs coaching friends have been proved very wrong. We will survive in the premiership with KP playing DM. Just the odd slice of humble pie from you would be nice and recognition that just as Bielsa didn’t lose his job by Christmas, quite a lot of your bold attention grabbing predictions are just plain wrong!

I will eat humble pie and have. I have said on here many times (you would of read but was MIA) belias proved me wrong he did what I said he couldn't do. I ate my pie and I loved it. belisa still has them faults and it showed yesterday and will again and again over the season. but I always said his faults out weighted his greatness. last year he proved it was the other way round and I pray he will do again

as for Phillips one very poor display (gave the ball away 17 times in 50 minutes) in a fake international against Denmark does not change my mind. neither did yesterday when he did what I expected. a world class assist but the defensive protection of a wet sponge. as I say time will tell. the world will soon see Phillips for what he is. over rated. a guy who can pass but can't run. a guy who can't play DM because he can't defend and his team let in four every week. a guy who as carra said gave the cb too much work because he can't do his job

Cork I understand football. I understand how Leeds play. that is the problem. for all the world class assists Phillips offer his lack of mobility and denfisive qualities will costs us week in week out. come back to me in ten games. see if I am wrong (like belisa I hope I am. but I am confident I won't be)

you know what BV I was wrong about belisa and delighted to be so and shout it out from the roof tops

however it seems I might be right about us being useless at set plays and high balls. so far prem read 4 goals conceded from high balls

maybe I was right about us not being able to defend unless we ave 80% of the ball. last night they had 40% and scored four

and phillips time. will tell

I admit when I am wrong. but never get credit when I am right. which is quite a lot.

Dodgy debuts from the 2 new signings I thought. Koch gives iffy pen away then loses Van Dyke for headed goal from corner and Rodney naively sticks a leg out in penalty area for any man and his dog to fall over. Gutted mainly because I had a tenner on a draw at 5/ 1.

I saw Koch get better and better as the game went on. Tough start but did enough to say he will come good. Only had a few days with Bielsa so both will improve.

great game and odd. half proud but half frustrated

set plays high ball already cost us.

going forward amazing defending awful. Many have said how we kept clean sheets last year. yes because we kept the ball. today showed we can't defend. and if anyone thinks Cooper is the answer. he will not be

but overall saw enough to think we will give everyone a game and pick up enough points to be safe. that said defence will cost us an awful lot which is frustrating

also think Liverpool flattered as I think they will struggle (by there standards) this year and finish 4th. that said still a champs league team we took to the wire. with a dodgy pen as well.

Very frustrating that we loose really to set pieces . It seems that could cost us games this season. I’m confident at moment seeing that game we looked sort of at home in this league but we do need to sharpen up a bit . I’d be delighted if we can stay up this season and build from that .

BW Who won the Champioship by 10 points it wasn’t your beloved Millwall, so they can keep there golden glove keeper and strong defence, who conceded many more goals than Leeds Uniteds so called dodgy defence . With our dodgy manager and England international DM . we won the league by a mile and was the best team. but that don't mean we can defend. liverpool and city do well in prem but are not really good at defending (certainly Liverpool of late but maybe not in general)

I have said we can not defend and clean sheets don't mean defending when you never have to defend. like a boxer don't have to have a good chin if he never gets hit

so yes Millwall centrbacks for me are far better. that is the start and end of my point and argument. canada always wants to have a go yet when I use common sense and stats he always goes quiet.

We will have to agree to differ BW, as no way are the Mllwall defenders better . Imagine the Liverpool forward playing against them for 1minute, how do you think they would get on? Cooper tall and good in the ball, but an agile quick footed forward would destroy him . Trent arguably the best right back in the country made to look poor by Harrison! Who in my opinion produced the best piece of football he ever has in a Leeds shirt, in my opinion proving football is not an exact science and changes continuously, players learn as they gain experience, so they will have learnt so much from the other night . I reckon an interested party could purchase both Millwall centre backs for a joint fee of a couple million, living in South London I’ve never heard in the papers of any interest . That says it all .

Its clear we are not going to win but very entertaining. At our best we are not good at set pieces but with the centre backs we have it was always going to be difficult. Some very good play from us when we get possession but we are struggling defensively. Losing by no more than two goals would be a decent outcome. And Bamford scored - he could/ should have had two. Harsh penalty - we would never get one like that at Elland road. all in all not bad. Hope we can keep it going in the second half.

Hello all,

not been on here for ages due to work being manic and having lost my login

but had to share the moment with you all. not long to go now after 16 long years

we had some highs and lows, some greats and some mugs but the fans always stayed true to this amazing club

sure this year we will have highs and lows but let's try our best to enjoy the ride

and remember better to lose as Leeds than win as anyone else

I can not wait for the kick off. Hope Rodrigo is starting. Lot of us are tentative and by the sounds of it expecting to lose. On paper we probably should but football is not about that.

Many teams have proved that the underdogs can cause upsets at any stage of the season so my money is down for one today. Its about passion and teamwork and getting the strategy right and we know we can do all that.

Yes Liverpool away is a big ask but that is why we wanted PL football, for these challenges, to test ourselves, to get elated, to get frustrated. that's what its all about so i go into the game expecting the lads to come away with something, draw would be great, win would be superb, loss would mean Liverpool got lucky.

Onwards and upwards.

Well today's the day. The promised land has arrived. There are many young people out there who have never seen Leeds competing at the top table and sadly there are people, no longer with us, who will not get the chance, who dreamed longingly of this day. Many lived in the hope, but never quite made it. So it's for them that I think we should dedicate this first game.
We know that there will be thousands looking down and cheering us on. I hope the lads go out and do it for them.

I'm torn.
There are those that say we will struggle and go down. I don't think we will.
There are those that say we have too much about us for most of the prem and we will finish top half.
We play the football we played last year with the energy we had we will be too good to go down. I just don't know how high we can go.
Sooooo ducking excited.
How strange that for 16 yrs we have wanted top flight football that will surely mean losing more games than we win.

Yes we have moved from being a bug fidh in a small pond to a medium fish in a huge pond but we crave it because it is the only route to returning to being the giant fish we once were. We will probably lose more games than win for now but we all hope that gradually we will turn that around and make our way to the top once more.
